Great pub. Really good value for food and drinks. Typical spoons.

Very slow to serve beer.😥 Must say... Services a lot better now. Bit sneaky with the price rise in beer prices.

Usual town centre spoons. Warm and offering a broad peaceful daytime space for all.

This venue finds itself on bus routes with easy access. They gave me more than value for my money, and seamlessly handled my having given the wrong table number for a drink order.

Lovely food and friendly staff. Also 5 minutes from our home.

Vaux Samson hit the spot! I called in for a pint while waiting for a bus....decided to stay for three more...! Happy to renew my acquaintance with this ale, took me back to the days of going into The Howard after watching Sunderland...spent a good hour or so in the Wicket Gate, busy with a wide-range of customers, beer was on top form, bar staff friendly and efficient, and the tables were quickly cleared. The pub has an open-plan kitchen, so you can watch the staff slaving over hot ovens, plus a beer garden - and no steps to the loos! Shout out to duty manager Kieran for a well-run bar, and to bar peeps Chris and Briggsy. #Cheers. (Vaux Samson is a 4% dark beer, brewed at Houghton-le-Spring by the Maxim Brewery. Breakfast meal excellent choice and great value

I go into The Wicket Gate regularly with friends and always have a great meal. Today was no exception the food was good and staff pleasant and helpful. But Today I visited with my family but in particular my baby granddaughter .. she’s 6 months old. I had called before we went to see if there was a high chair available and advised yes. We went in about 12.30 there were 5 + baby we were limited to where we could sit so had to push tables together all three tables were of different height. My son collected the high chair and placed it at the lowest height table and we put baby in chair. Well we did all laugh because all we could see were her eyes. The highchair which was an old wooded chair with no adjustments for height and no tray looked as if it had come from Beamish museum. I asked the guy in charge were they all like this and he said yes .. he thought this chair was standard across the Weatherspoons group. Come on Mr Weatherspoon please check this out asap it’s 2025 not 1925. Surely all your customers even babies should be able to have their meal in comfort and not in fear of bumping their face on the hard tables. Thank you

Quick service staff really helpful and polite. Food was nice. Read a Wetherspoons news brochure whilst waiting for the food. This food chain of 800 through out the UK do loads for different charities thank you for that .Lots of pubs closing high taxes and lack of customers. If you can support them in anyway I think they deserve it .

Saturday morning at 11 a.m., and the place was mobbed. The Mobile app was not working, so it was a visit to the bar. Initially, we had to make do with a small table for 2, but fortunately, a booth freed up just as our food arrived so we moved, I don't think we would have coped at the small table, too cramped. Lots of folk getting started with pints for breakfast, I'm not sure if that is typical or just because there was lunchtime football featuring Newcastle. The food was nice enough, 2 breakfasts with decent quantities of each item and 3 hash browns was a bonus, my favourite. The mushroom was not, very rubbery. It was very loud.

Just a typical Spoons but different location, food as per usual again typical Spoons food and nowt to write home about basically Spoons has become generic in their food, beer and staff though the staff are quite pleasant here. Parking is within a stones throw and Durham Cricket Club is less than a minutes walk away. Chester-le-Street is a nice place to be though!

It's a Spoons, you know what exactly your getting when you walk in, elderly people enjoying their breakfasts and coffee in one corner, then dodgy clientele in the other corner on the cheap drinks....

You honestly can’t be robbed with a Wetherspoons. Ordered an eggs Benedict, extra bacon, extra hashy bs and a pint of OJ for less than a tenner. Food was all cooked lovely, good service. You always know what you’re getting which is decent food at a decent price

I work away from home from time to time so I am a Witherspoon fan this is the best one I've been in in the country

What you pay for is what you get as they say. I got more than i paid for. Ordering by the App as straight forward, as was the speed of service. The food arrived in good time, with a polite member of staff. Thank you!

WiFi down intermittently. cash only at till. Bit of a farce. Was going to eat but didn't have the cash to pay. Need to sort technology out.

Peaceful atmosphere in a newly refurbished pub with open top seating, staff very friendly and helpful.

I don't normally leave bad reviews but yesterday I visited for breakfast I always have pancakes with fruit and it's usually great but not on this occasion.i usually get the syrup in a little bowl to add to each of my pancakes but it was just a bit on top I opened my pancakes onto my bowl and the others were dry I asked for a little more just to be told I'd have to go pay for some more I explained why has it just been tipped on top I had my fruit in the bottom of my bowl with tiny bits of strawberry but it seemed all muched up because of the syrup they just threw on top I wasted half because it was dry I visit a few times a week but I'm thinking that's the last

Curry Thursday and fish n chips are fantastic

My only concern with this place is HYGIENE! Specifically the cleanliness of the tables, everytime at sit at a table I immediately clean it with antibacterial hand gel and a tissue and everyime the tissue is covered with dirt !

Nice Bar with a friendly staff they work very well under the current restrictions and the refit is very nice especially the rooftop bar.

The burger was delicious, and the service was fairly quick. The only issue that we had was that they had forgotten to make one of the burgers, but this issue was sorted out quickly and we got the other burger a few minutes after the first burger. The food was hot and tasty, and there was literally nothing to complain about with regards to the food.

Got very busy after a cricket match was cancelled and the noise level was extremely loud and also no Wi fi was available due to some sort of issue, but the table clearing staff were 100 % Helpful with there information especially Neeve who was most helpful.

Probably the best Wetherspoons to date. Breakfast is always served hot and to our satisfaction. Lunch today was tasty and hot. Beer and drinks always fine. Compared to other Wetherspoons we use this seems to take the biscuit and goes the extra mile in service.

Great wetherspoons with a balcony to sit and eat your food, probably the best one I've been too

Can be a bit of a hit or miss for food. The chicken dish was tasty but the presentation and execution of constructing the dish was poor. The chicken was crammed into one end of the origami folded wrap so it was both delicious in one part, yet dry and sparse in the other. The burger was as it looked. Value for money (as far as burgers go) but thrown together in a hurry - is burger assembly an Olympic event? If so, you're in a medal position. Chips, cheap as .... well, you know. Dry - yet greasy to taste - quite confusing. What helps is the condiments available - or what I will call them - "flavour enhancers ". For service, the grunts of the business continue to do a great job and rarely get to breathe. If you work your way up, you've got it made. As observed, get others to do the dirty work, run around, cleaning and you take it easy doing staff reviews at a public table (do you have an office?) While a queue get bigger at the bar. Who checks the checker? Send me in, I'll sort it.

All canny, good decent prices, lots of room and great choice of very different beers as well as the usual stuff

The food is nice but the portions seem a little small. I ordered burger and chips. There were only 12 chips on the plate and the burger wasn't very big.

Never had a problem with wspoons pub just some of the toilets to many stairs to climb lol

The rooftop beer garden is a hidden gem, which needs your attention !! 😉

First time we've been in but we'll be back again because the place was amazing it has a lovely beer garden the staff were friendly and helpful. And the place on a Saturday is buzzing

Portions have shrunk in spoonies but it's the same as ever otherwise This one's always pretty busy and worth a visit for a burger and beer

Spoons are always spoons you know what to expect but this is by far my favourite nice and quiet and good always comes quick and hot

Been visiting here for breakfast regularly for quite some time now, however today's visit could be the last, it seems they have changed the sausage on the breakfast from what have been rather nice tasty sausages in the past for tasteless cheap catering one's, if this is just temporary then fair enough, but if it is a permanent change then goodbye Wetherspoons we will look elsewhere for breakfast! 😒

My fish and chips were very dried and my friend fish and chips were nice, the price for fish and chips each, came to £10 . 80p each, but we got large pepsi and one pint of Guinness of myself separately, I DON'T THINK IT WAS ON AFTERNOON FOOD DEAL BETWEEN 2pm. and. 5pm. FOOD WAS BARELY HOT,

Cheep special burger chips and drink for only £1.44 is unbelievable have to say burger was a little over cooked but must say for the drink I was getting wold of been £2.79 normally must say that this was an one off deal last Monday but we was speaking to our server who said they have specials alot of the time now days so it's worth checking the app before visiting to see if they is specials on. Access for wheelchair users is an lift at entrance as I did not need the toilet did not check it out the Access between tables verry fair for an whetherspoons plus bingo and quiz days and nights

Went to The Wicket Gate pub as we were in the area. Thus, we simply had to sample the delights of Chester-Le-Street. As you do. Why not? The people of Chester-Le-Street used a wicket gate in a fence to prevent sheep escaping as a wicket back in the early days of the game’s evolution in the town. Now, there is a county cricket ground just up the road and cricket is a big part of the town. The door to The Wicket Gate pub is where folk now go through to escape the rigours of life. Probably. It’s a spacious building developed in true Wetherspoons style. Long bar with plenty pf chairs and stools surrounding tables of varying height. As always, there are a few booths that offer ‘privacy’ where everyone surrounding you can hear every word uttered. It has a large outside seating area. The north-west is legendary for its long hot summers where temperatures often meet tropical levels after all. Probably. After a couple of drinks and the customary twelve-mile hike to the pub toilets, we departed. Good pub, enjoyed the visit. Recommended.

It's wetherspoons,what more can you say...does what it says on the tin,you pay for what you get, quick,cheap,filling food...though just one grr,fried egg was snotty...but that's all..

It’s a Wetherspoons so you know what you’re getting. Like all other Wetherspoons this doesn’t differ. It’s cheap and cheerful and we all love it. I did eat here, the food wasn’t anything special but it’s a Wetherspoons so I wouldn’t expect it to be but it was edible and it hit the spot. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed but it was a Thursday night. If you want a cheap drink it’s well worth a visit, plenty of places to sit too which always helps.

One of the "nice" Witherspoon's pubs. Always has a good atmosphere and a good mix of clientele. Pints are always good and you just can't beat the Witherspoon's prices. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been before.

Personally I wouldn't go again. The food wasn't great. Everything else fine.

Met up with friends for lunch. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Had to ask for menus, none on any tables. Food was served eventually by miserable staff but thankfully it tasted ok. The drinks were slow too and it wasn’t that busy. Not be in a hurry to go back.

Food came out too quick and wasn't hot. It was warm. I was going to ask for it to be put in a microwave. Apart from that everything was good. Will still go back.

Were in today for food & drinks & saw a number of people occupying tables whilst consuming their own food preventing others from using the tables, staff completely ignored this selfish behaviour.

Very quick service and plenty seating. They have large windows that open in the summer. There is an upstairs beer garden. Good experience.

Apart from Tim Martin's Brexit that robbed me of my EU citizenship. It was OK.

Great bar staff it's was very full but got served no problem,will go there again.
