Great wetherspoons with a balcony to sit and eat your food, probably the best one I've been too

Can be a bit of a hit or miss for food. The chicken dish was tasty but the presentation and execution of constructing the dish was poor. The chicken was crammed into one end of the origami folded wrap so it was both delicious in one part, yet dry and sparse in the other. The burger was as it looked. Value for money (as far as burgers go) but thrown together in a hurry - is burger assembly an Olympic event? If so, you're in a medal position. Chips, cheap as .... well, you know. Dry - yet greasy to taste - quite confusing. What helps is the condiments available - or what I will call them - "flavour enhancers ". For service, the grunts of the business continue to do a great job and rarely get to breathe. If you work your way up, you've got it made. As observed, get others to do the dirty work, run around, cleaning and you take it easy doing staff reviews at a public table (do you have an office?) While a queue get bigger at the bar. Who checks the checker? Send me in, I'll sort it.

Usual cheap prices & great selection of drinks. Food & service good & in better condition than a lot of Spoons

All canny, good decent prices, lots of room and great choice of very different beers as well as the usual stuff

The food is nice but the portions seem a little small. I ordered burger and chips. There were only 12 chips on the plate and the burger wasn't very big.

Never had a problem with wspoons pub just some of the toilets to many stairs to climb lol

The rooftop beer garden is a hidden gem, which needs your attention !! 😉

First time we've been in but we'll be back again because the place was amazing it has a lovely beer garden the staff were friendly and helpful. And the place on a Saturday is buzzing

Portions have shrunk in spoonies but it's the same as ever otherwise This one's always pretty busy and worth a visit for a burger and beer

Spoons are always spoons you know what to expect but this is by far my favourite nice and quiet and good always comes quick and hot

Been visiting here for breakfast regularly for quite some time now, however today's visit could be the last, it seems they have changed the sausage on the breakfast from what have been rather nice tasty sausages in the past for tasteless cheap catering one's, if this is just temporary then fair enough, but if it is a permanent change then goodbye Wetherspoons we will look elsewhere for breakfast! 😒

My fish and chips were very dried and my friend fish and chips were nice, the price for fish and chips each, came to £10 . 80p each, but we got large pepsi and one pint of Guinness of myself separately, I DON'T THINK IT WAS ON AFTERNOON FOOD DEAL BETWEEN 2pm. and. 5pm. FOOD WAS BARELY HOT,

It's Wetherspoons so don't over expect but rated against other spoons its great 10 out of 10

Cheep special burger chips and drink for only £1.44 is unbelievable have to say burger was a little over cooked but must say for the drink I was getting wold of been £2.79 normally must say that this was an one off deal last Monday but we was speaking to our server who said they have specials alot of the time now days so it's worth checking the app before visiting to see if they is specials on. Access for wheelchair users is an lift at entrance as I did not need the toilet did not check it out the Access between tables verry fair for an whetherspoons plus bingo and quiz days and nights

A very busy gastro pub on the High Street. Friday night especially

Went to The Wicket Gate pub as we were in the area. Thus, we simply had to sample the delights of Chester-Le-Street. As you do. Why not? The people of Chester-Le-Street used a wicket gate in a fence to prevent sheep escaping as a wicket back in the early days of the game’s evolution in the town. Now, there is a county cricket ground just up the road and cricket is a big part of the town. The door to The Wicket Gate pub is where folk now go through to escape the rigours of life. Probably. It’s a spacious building developed in true Wetherspoons style. Long bar with plenty pf chairs and stools surrounding tables of varying height. As always, there are a few booths that offer ‘privacy’ where everyone surrounding you can hear every word uttered. It has a large outside seating area. The north-west is legendary for its long hot summers where temperatures often meet tropical levels after all. Probably. After a couple of drinks and the customary twelve-mile hike to the pub toilets, we departed. Good pub, enjoyed the visit. Recommended.

The reason I give 4 stars is for the price of alcohol in comparison with other local pubs,they are half the price,the staff are very good aswell

It's wetherspoons,what more can you say...does what it says on the tin,you pay for what you get, quick,cheap,filling food...though just one grr,fried egg was snotty...but that's all..

One of the "nice" Witherspoon's pubs. Always has a good atmosphere and a good mix of clientele. Pints are always good and you just can't beat the Witherspoon's prices. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been before.

It’s a Wetherspoons so you know what you’re getting. Like all other Wetherspoons this doesn’t differ. It’s cheap and cheerful and we all love it. I did eat here, the food wasn’t anything special but it’s a Wetherspoons so I wouldn’t expect it to be but it was edible and it hit the spot. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed but it was a Thursday night. If you want a cheap drink it’s well worth a visit, plenty of places to sit too which always helps.

Personally I wouldn't go again. The food wasn't great. Everything else fine.

Met up with friends for lunch. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Had to ask for menus, none on any tables. Food was served eventually by miserable staff but thankfully it tasted ok. The drinks were slow too and it wasn’t that busy. Not be in a hurry to go back.

Food came out too quick and wasn't hot. It was warm. I was going to ask for it to be put in a microwave. Apart from that everything was good. Will still go back.

Were in today for food & drinks & saw a number of people occupying tables whilst consuming their own food preventing others from using the tables, staff completely ignored this selfish behaviour.

Very quick service and plenty seating. They have large windows that open in the summer. There is an upstairs beer garden. Good experience.

Typical Weatherspoons situated at top of Chester le Street. Quick service, decent food and drink at reasonable prices. Had 2 jacket potatoes, a small fish and chips with 3 soft drinks for £22. Loads of choice on menu. No car park but council one close

One the best wetherspoons in the country in our opinion. We do live nearby.. but have been to Wetherspoons from Inverness, Edinburgh, Newquay, Folkestone, the Midlands, north west, Yorkshire. Etc!. Nice atmosphere, great polite and friendly staff, good food. Nice beer garden on the roof terrace too.

Just like any other wetherspoons except the toilets are on the ground floor which is a nice change. Decor looked pretty dated and service was nothing to shout out about.

It's just a spoon, always cheap and cheerful but better of non-chain local options to try instead. I recommend Fabio's Italian a few doors down or Deanos in the market Square.

Fast service for drinks and food and the food was hot and tasty. Very busy but service did not suffer was still very efficient.

Mixed grill meat too chewy. Apple crumble no or very little crumble. Service good.

My first time visit to a Wetherspoons, too crowded for my liking

Had Xmas lunch with family food terrible service same. 1st time there and last rubbish 🗑 tbh.

Husband had beef madras with rice , poppadoms and a naan with a pint of San miquil, I had fish, chips , mushy peas and a large glass of pinot grigio. All that for under £20, food was served lovely and hot in a warm pub by friendly staff, definitely worth a visit

Great place for casual drinks and food. Visited with my best friend and the food was great, drinks were brought to our table very quickly after we ordered. Staff and service was excellent. We love how cheap and cheerful this place is for friendly catchups and laughs.

Really busy on a weekend afternoon

Not enough staff resulting in long wait to be served. My pint of Hobgoblin Gold was cloudy and tasted awful (see photo).

Sunday morning visit for a full English breakfast. Fast service, and the quality of the food was what you'd expect, overall enjoyable hour.

Typical Spoons always worth a visit. Even had a TV and same floor toilets 🚻

Went here for a breakfast and it must of been the worst breakfast I have ever had everything on the plate was cheap stuff ie bacon sausage beans egg was stone cold the best thing was refills on tea and coffee staff weren't very helpful and wasn't very clean

Great little pub and with it being a wetherspoons the food and drink is really reasonable. Staff are great too

I really love the sunny upstairs, outside area. It's a shame it's not accessible for people with disabilities but it has the benefit of keeping young children and crying babies out, so usually peaceful dining.

Came here a few days ago for lunch and we were in a booth.A male member of staff young with short hair and beard stood talking to a woman customer for at least 20 mins.She was really loud nd we couldn't hear ourselves for their conversation.Very unprofessional and spoilt our visit.

A busy lunch time with fast prompt service. The steaks are usually good at Wetherspoon but today it was terrible. The worse ever. Very tough with lots of grizzle. Very disappointing

Daytime visit to watch the football and have some food. Only 1 TV in the place so very restricted as to were you can sit, not helpful when you have a disabled person with you who finds it difficult to sit on a high table. Food as you would expect from a Wetherspoons- basic and reasonably priced.

As you would expect from Wetherspoons. No complaints. On the high street so park at Morrisons for free (2 hours) which is 5 mins walk away near to the train station.

Nice lunchtime food pleasant and helpful staff and nice atmosphere Had breakfast here today with my granddaughter. Full English and maple syrup pancakes all delicious.

Visited here before going to a concert at the cricket ground It was very busy on the evening when I visited... Got a table and ordered food and drinks on the app.. Drinks were brought to the table quite quickly and then a little wait for the food only to be expected considering how many people were there Food is simple but very good value for the money in my opinion...I mean burger and beer for around £10... can't go wrong Great friendly service and a fantastic atmosphere here... would definitely recommend

Really nice Wetherspoons. Went before ging to see The Who at Furham County Cricket ground and returned there after the concert. One of the best Wetherspoons I've been in. Loved the rooftop beer garden. Great, fast service too - both at the bar and via the app.

Used to never be away from the place when it was Chicago rock. Now there's no music, no atmosphere. Its more of a restaurant than a pub. Only go in now for food or meeting up with friends and never stay long.

Had a great chicken jal freze, san miguel £3.43 a pint, ruddles bitter £1.71! What is not to like?
