The location of this hotel is excellent if arriving by train, being located right opposite the station approach, great if you’re arriving by train and only a short walk from the centre of Durham. The hotel were happy to store our bags free of charge after check-out until our train later in the day, a really useful facility and a good saving compared to other luggage storage locations. All the staff were very friendly, chatty, welcoming and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Room at the back was quiet with little road noise or noise from the bar and trains on viaduct above were not noticeable. Only negative was that some of the carpets etc were a bit worn, but still functional and slight noise from the extractor at the next door pizza takeaway. Overall a nice stay and it is clear the staff try their hardest to ensure customers have a good stay.

Out with friends for Sunday lunch 6 people. Food was very good with plenty of it. Had to wait a little while as was busy for Father’s Day. Everyone enjoyed there main course, we didn’t have starters or deserts as the main meal was very filling. We will definitely be back again, in fact have just booked again for today.

The pub’s beer choices were excellent, but the pub food almost inedible. Chips were fried in old fat and tasted rancid. Fajitas and chicken breast dinner bland and veggies oddly paired with fajitas-green beans and, scallions instead of crisp onions.

Brilliant experience here for my husband’s 60th birthday. Dinner for 10 people was excellent. We were able to preorder and everyone was extremely complimentary about their meals. All food was hot, well cooked and delicious. We had a good variety of menu items … chunky chips a true highlight, although everything was excellent. We were looked after really well by friendly and efficient staff. Absolutely fab. Thank you.

Whilst arranging a long weekend in Durham, I “blind”-booked a table at the Bridge, based upon the online menu and upon the fact that we wanted a pub restaurant, rather than fine dining. We were definitely not disappointed! The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great and the customer service was superb. Staff were so friendly and attentive and went out of their way to ensure that everything was perfect. All the staff had a smile and a cheery word, which made us feel really at home. Called in on Saturday 7th August mistakenly thinking it would be quieter than the main city, boy we were wrong, standing room only. Lots of people on the lower level dining, the bar area was full due to the rugby being on, there wasn’t much of a wait for drinks the place had a great vibe & it was lovely to hear the buzz & watch people enjoy themselves again without the need for face masks or social distancing, long may it continue!

We are so pleased that she arrived to turn the place around again! I can't wait to try the rest of the menu- the corned beef pie looks lovely! The steak sandwich is now made from REAL beef - I emphasise this as the last time we ordered this several months ago it was a poor excuse for meat - more like shreds of plastic fake meat! We stayed at the Bridge Hotel, during a weekend visit to Durham. This is a busy friendly pub with a great menu and many main meals on offer at two for twelve pounds. The bedrooms were en suite and although they are quite basic they were clean and had everything you needed for a short stay. It is however the staff at this hotel that really make it. We were in Durham to go the racing at Sedgefield on the Saturday. Our barmaid phoned numerous taxi firms to organise our transport and continued to do this while we all went off for the afternoon in to town. Great service!!The hotel is well located for the train station and the town centre. We would recommend this hotel for a short break, book a table for dinner as it was very busy in the evenings.

No Table had been reserved... so I sat in the corner .. as a group of 4 had just sat in the table I had pre-booked.... I took me quite a while to get served with my drink..I may ad.... It got to 6.50pm ... no table had been set out..nothing ..so I mentioned this to a waitress... at 6. 56 a waitress came over with some cutlery... and asked would I just like to sit in the table where I was in the corner... and proceeded to set out the table... We arrived at the Bridge Hotel at about 11.30pm last Wednesday after our train from London had unexpectedly terminated at Darlington and we'd had to take a taxi from there. We were very tired and looking forward to getting into bed, but when we arrived the hotel was dark and the doors were closed. As it was only 11.30pm and the place is a pub we were a bit surprised, but it was definitely shut. I must say I didn't like the look of the place at all, but my partner's office had booked us a room there so we tried to somehow alert them to our presence. We stood outside, next to an overflowing ashtray and an empty pint glass, on the cold pavement and rang the bell and knocked and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I tried ringing reception on the phone, but my call went straight to answer machine. Eventually we gave up and had to find somewhere else to stay - which was not easy. We were cold and tired and ended up having to take a taxi to Chester-le-Street and didn't get to bed until 1am.When I rang the Bridge Hotel the next day I asked to speak to the Manager and the man who had answered the phone claimed that he was that person. I told him what had happened the previous night, but instead of apologizing he merely told me that check-in closed at 6pm. I expressed my great surprise at this fact - having never in my expensive travels ever encountered a hotel where the check-in closed this early - but he was unmoved, merely adding that that was "how it was". I explained that we had rung the bell and knocked on the door and rung them on the telephone but that he had received no answer and had had to go and stay elsewhere. I asked if he was going to apologize. He said he was not. He was appallingly rude. Later on I looked at the hotel's website where it claims that check-in closes at 11pm but that late keys are available at the bar. I have no idea why this seemed to be so definitely NOT the case when we arrived. As I say, it was only 11.30pm not 3 in the morning.I cannot understand how a hotel with this staggering lack of customer service and such appallingly rude management can stay in business. In fact I hope for the sake of anyone who might, through ignorance of these facts, book a room at the Bridge in future that it does not stay in business. It certainly doesn't deserve to. Fellow travellers: I cannot advise you strongly enough against having anything to do with this appalling establishment. Stay anywhere, but not here.

Used come here often when living near by. Food was good today but not really worth the money paid for the portion recieved although staff were friendly. Only real criticism and it has always been the same is lighten the place up a bit.

This is really good pub food make no mistake and at very good prices. Good service, nice atmosphere and a variety of ales and beers. Service is fast and efficient and the staff are friendly. Just keep finding myself going back here as I live in Durham.

A very pleasantly decorated place with a good selection of beer and food. I chose a salad with some strips of meat, quite tasty with a beer. Many locals there to eat and drink, always a good sign. Breakfast cooked to order next morning was excellent, and enjoyable conversation with the waitress. Comfortable place.

Food was excellent here. Easily accessible hotel, 3 minutes (literally) from Durham rail station and approx. 5 minutes' walk to the bus station. Friendly staff and the food couldn't be faulted on either variety or price. (Very) Large portions and beautifully presented, the meals were outstanding on both occasions that we dined there. Meals are served all day until 10pm I believe and we'd certainly recommend this cosy little hotel for good food and a friendly atmosphere.

This is a hidden gem. Lovely old style pub, plenty of parking. We had our dog so it’s bar only, but has lounge too. Lovely staff, very attentive and informative. Good choice of beers, food and dog meals. Steak & ale pie was in own dish rammed with beef. Veg assortment and gravy came separate. Wife had mince and giant leek dumpling. Both loved the quality and quantity. Our dog Rosie had an amazing sized bowl of chicken pieces. We intended a pudding but we’re just too stuffed. Rosie had the dog ice cream and wolfed it down. All in all a great pub, dogs very welcome. Led to believe Sunday is very popular and they have just launched their Xmas menu.

Booked last minute as a stopover on a long journey and would definitely stay again. Immaculate throughout, big room with extra touch of takeaway cups to make a drink to take with you. Ate in restaurant, service was fast and food fantastic. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Opened curtains to a lovely view onto a field of horses. 100% recommend

I don't normally leave bad reviews but yesterday I visited for breakfast I always have pancakes with fruit and it's usually great but not on this occasion.i usually get the syrup in a little bowl to add to each of my pancakes but it was just a bit on top I opened my pancakes onto my bowl and the others were dry I asked for a little more just to be told I'd have to go pay for some more I explained why has it just been tipped on top I had my fruit in the bottom of my bowl with tiny bits of strawberry but it seemed all muched up because of the syrup they just threw on top I wasted half because it was dry I visit a few times a week but I'm thinking that's the last
