My wife and I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the chef and staff for a fantastic night for the service and food. The staff were professional and the food was outstanding. The staff were very welcoming and have great customer service. So once again thank you.

If you're looking for the ultimate chip experience, Hendos is the place to be! The chips are the best around - triple cooked - fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. They take gluten free very seriously by using a seperate fryer for the chips, ensuring they’re safe for coeliacs. Anything battered can also be made gluten free. What really sets Hendos apart is the labelled gluten free vinegar! The decor is stylish, authentic and modern. It’s definitely worth stopping by if you’re visiting the Abbey Gardens. They have a large menu and even a separate ice cream menu. My boyfriend will be back to try the Kinder Bueno one! A huge thank you to the helpful and smiley staff too :)

Just We have had the worst restaurant meal this lunchtime for many years at No.4 Abbeygate. A new Chef is most definitely needed and much needed staff training is also necessary too. Lovely polite youngsters working there however they are not well trained. If you order two courses they should immediately bring another knife and fork or soup spoon however this did not happen so sitting there with my soup for several minutes waiting for a spoon. Still no further cutlery for main course so I am sitting there with just a fork and my husband no cutlery when main course arrived. Then we had to wait again for them to go and get cutlery. No offer of any horseradish with the roast beef meals so I had to call a waiter back and ask for it. Now to our main gripe the actual food! (Photo attached of the plates sent back at end of the main course.) My husband had a nondescript pate to start with although toasted bread was lovely, I had the leek and potato soup that closely resembled thick wall paper paste and had no flavour it dropped off the spoon in globules gross. Again the bread was good so dipped it but had to leave most of the soup as horrid. We both had the roast beef main course and most of the meal was burnt as you can see in the photo. The beef was so tough we could not eat it, the roast potatoes were like rubber they seemed to have been recooked several times I actually cannot even imagine how they managed to get them so bad no potato just this thick rubbery skin with nothing inside it 🤢, the cauliflower cheese looked ok but when you touched it, it disintegrated it was like mush, the roasted carrots were burned, the other boiled/steamed vegetables were terribly over cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked/burnt and they were just like crisps on a positive note the parsnips were ok. We have eaten at No 4 several times over the last few years and never previously had any complaints so goodness knows why they have gone downhill like this. It was all so bad we ended up laughing it was the real talking point of the day. We did tell them how bad it was when they removed the plates and the young waiter came back and said the manager had knocked the drinks off the bill. My husband said he could think of better ways to spend £47 (without drinks) which considering what we actually ate is so very true.

Day trip to Bury St. Edmunds and called here for lunch. Great menu choices and nice environment too. All staff were pleasant, particularly our server who was friendly and helpful. Drinks and food orders taken and served pretty quickly. Great choice for lunch.

Lively Pub with local charm. Super friendly landlord and welcoming crowd. There was a cheese tasting for everyone and we were able to sample about 10 different cheeses. Great way to get to talk with the locals and enjoy the evening

I had a 60th celebration party in the green room on Saturday, the 11th of January. It was really good. If I had to make any criticism, it’s just that they’re quite restrictive and pigeonhole you into what they want you to do! However on the whole it is always good as we stay often!! The food was excellent and so were the staff, particularly Georgie she is a real asset to them. She is just brilliant…👏👏

No where near as when Sodexo had the contract to run it. Only one gluten free cake still so absolutely no improvement from when I last visited. Only went as we had seats on the ground floor of the apex for a gig so saved a trip upstairs. Might as well have not bothered

Food - horrible Drinks ran out of most ordered one finally but came nothing like the picture to have kids sprinkles on top not a cherry. AwfulBad atmosphere 50% off pizza night they had nothing but gluten free bases with limited toppings and looked nothing like advertised looked like a £1 frozen pizza from Iceland at best. Disappointment. Shall not be returning anytime soon!!!!!!!
