1921 Angel Hill is a lovely welcoming restaurant with friendly and professional staff. The idea of the ever popular tasting menu is a good one as it allows you to sample different dishes. The food is thoughtful, innovative and tasty, with the standout dish being the mersea crab (amazing!). However, I thought it was expensive for the small portion sizes and I was disappointed with the duck replacement dish (a goats curd cannoli). I totally understand the concept, as I have enjoyed many “tapas style” tasting menus in the past. However, to spend £150 (for 2 people including 3 drinks) yet leave not feeling totally full was a little disappointing. 1921 is an enjoyable, elegant evening and I recommend the experience.

We arrived for a booked table for lunch on 11thDec and a lot of things were already off the menu ( specials board) . We had a light lunch and then when I went to restaurant. Side counter to pay and to order coffees I was directed to the counter on the other side . They then said my coffee would appear on the high shelf. I left my friend ( on her own) 3 times to retrieve the coffee and the last time I asked and was told someone else had taken it. By this time it was time for the start of the film and I had to take my coffee in with me. It’s appalling we weren’t served coffee at our table. I won’t be returning and I will be putting others off .

Went to the cafe on a Friday prior to a meeting to grab a sandwich and read up on some stuff for the meeting and was served by a lovely young man that was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. I was able to sit in peace and do what I needed to do whilst enjoying lunch.

Was given a £50.00 token for my birthday. Booked and went today. Dressed smartly. Parked in car park which was full of puddles and ended up entering the hotel with muddy boots and trousers. Felt embarrassed but needn't have worried. Receptionist was busy on the phone so found our own way to restaurant. We both ordered beef. Literally couldn't cut it, the potatoes were also tough (reheated?). The waitress asked us if everything was ok and I pointed out the beef and potatoes. She offered us a steak knife which we took. I gave up with my beef and potatoes my husband valiantly carried on. The puddings were good. The hotel had the vibe of a hostel, the clientele wondering around in jeans, wellies and trainers, lots of children running around (I was told later on that this was a family hotel), we had people with stocking feet, wellies and dressing gowns in the restaurant. The staff were great but the food was not. When we received the bill we saw a discount of £6.00 on it, I asked what this was for and apparently this was supposed to cover the meal I couldn't eat.

Went for our annual work Christmas Dinner. Given a welcome drink of prosecco or elderflower, as the non-alcoholic option on arrival. The elderflower was scarcely present, unfortunately there was little difference between it and lukewarm water. Seemed to take an age to be taken through to the dinning hall, despite apparently needing to be at the venue for 6.30. There was no option to open a bar tab - at the bar which had no coke, no lime cordial, no white tequila, only one white wine - so it was complete chaos trying to organise buying the drinks! Eventually taken through to a very nicely laid out dinning hall and seated. Those who wanted another drink before our meal had to go back upstairs, after finding me to come and pay for it. Very inconvenient. The meal started to come out after 8pm - everyone was really hungry. The starter choice was a fig tart, or prawn cocktail. The prawn cocktail was absolutely miniscule - 3 prawns in a little sauce on a little lettuce leaf, it's a good job there was a small bread roll at each place setting! A good 30 minutes after rhe starter had been cleared the main came out - turkey (which was cooked nicely) 3 tiny new potatoes (no roast potatoes) a couple of sprouts, carrots and parsnips, with gravy. A very very disappointing 'turkey roast' without roast potatoes or stuffing. Dessert was either Christmas pudding or raspberry and lemon trifle, which consisted of 3 squares of soggy jellied sponge, some green dots and a spot of custard covered with a squirt of cream. In no way did it resemble a trifle. Even getting a tea or coffee was not possible until the station was 'opened' thought there was no indication whatsoever that it was closed until 9.30! When a member of staff was asked we were told that the doors are closed and nobody should be out there trying to get hot drinks until it was announced as open. All in all a very disappointing meal served by mainly surly servers. The evening lacked any kind of Christmas feel about it from start to finish. Won't be going back or recommending

Food - horrible Drinks ran out of most ordered one finally but came nothing like the picture to have kids sprinkles on top not a cherry. AwfulBad atmosphere 50% off pizza night they had nothing but gluten free bases with limited toppings and looked nothing like advertised looked like a £1 frozen pizza from Iceland at best. Disappointment. Shall not be returning anytime soon!!!!!!!
