The best restaurants serving British food in Abbeygate St Edmundsbury East of England

1921 Angel Hill is a lovely welcoming restaurant with friendly and professional staff. The idea of the ever popular tasting menu is a good one as it allows you to sample different dishes. The food is thoughtful, innovative and tasty, with the standout dish being the mersea crab (amazing!). However, I thought it was expensive for the small portion sizes and I was disappointed with the duck replacement dish (a goats curd cannoli). I totally understand the concept, as I have enjoyed many “tapas style” tasting menus in the past. However, to spend £150 (for 2 people including 3 drinks) yet leave not feeling totally full was a little disappointing. 1921 is an enjoyable, elegant evening and I recommend the experience.

Nice little coffee shop, food offering is very very good. Staff are polite and friendly. Karine was very helpful in helping my indecisive partner choose some food.

We arrived for a booked table for lunch on 11thDec and a lot of things were already off the menu ( specials board) . We had a light lunch and then when I went to restaurant. Side counter to pay and to order coffees I was directed to the counter on the other side . They then said my coffee would appear on the high shelf. I left my friend ( on her own) 3 times to retrieve the coffee and the last time I asked and was told someone else had taken it. By this time it was time for the start of the film and I had to take my coffee in with me. It’s appalling we weren’t served coffee at our table. I won’t be returning and I will be putting others off .

9 of us went out which was really good to get together with friends- but the food I would say was rather lacking Starter of Creamy Mushrooms was excellent but the Main Mushroom Wellington was over Microwaved the pastry was very hard and tough I cannot speak for the rest but alot was left - also as being staff I was very disappionted when the AM did not let us have our staff discount

The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and plentiful and at a reasonable price. We will definitely be going there again when we visit Bury Saint Edmunds

Went to the cafe on a Friday prior to a meeting to grab a sandwich and read up on some stuff for the meeting and was served by a lovely young man that was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. I was able to sit in peace and do what I needed to do whilst enjoying lunch.

Good food and great staff. Toilets were clean

Can only be described as a great British pub. Love, love, love this place. With all of the gastronomy, lack of personality pubs in this area, it was a refreshing visit in Bury. Staff, A*, pub dog, gorgeous, and drinks superb. Being able to sit at the bar, chat with everyone freely, from money to trades, this place outdoes everywhere locally for a true British experience. How it should be. A treasure to the trade.

I had a 60th celebration party in the green room on Saturday, the 11th of January. It was really good. If I had to make any criticism, it’s just that they’re quite restrictive and pigeonhole you into what they want you to do! However on the whole it is always good as we stay often!! The food was excellent and so were the staff, particularly Georgie she is a real asset to them. She is just brilliant…👏👏

My parents hosted their wedding reception here and the day was wonderful. The staff were very attentive but low key. Jessica our host/planner was friendly and approachable. We visited the venue beforehand and she gave us all the information we needed for arranging the day. They sorted anything we needed quickly and efficiently while we were there, helped us to decorate the room and gather our things afterwards. The room was lovely and festive for a Christmas time wedding and the bar staff were great.

Saturday night got caught up with traffic, going to the apex. love a "Spoons". Very helpful staff, said we were in a rush. Rely super fast food came out , hadn't really started my beer !! Great beers, got 2 in ! Spoke to the manager [ he never stopped] and thanked him for the excellent service. Brill service then off to the Apex- recommended.

No where near as when Sodexo had the contract to run it. Only one gluten free cake still so absolutely no improvement from when I last visited. Only went as we had seats on the ground floor of the apex for a gig so saved a trip upstairs. Might as well have not bothered

Food is amazing, I had cod and chips, daughter had ribs and chips it was delicious, will certainly be ordering from them again

Food - horrible Drinks ran out of most ordered one finally but came nothing like the picture to have kids sprinkles on top not a cherry. AwfulBad atmosphere 50% off pizza night they had nothing but gluten free bases with limited toppings and looked nothing like advertised looked like a £1 frozen pizza from Iceland at best. Disappointment. Shall not be returning anytime soon!!!!!!!
