The best restaurants serving British food in Hertsmere East of England

It was a celebration 🎉 for my husbands 60th, 25 People to cater for. Everyone commented on the food and not 1 complaint. We met the chef and she got all the admiration & thanks. Mandy and the waiters were short staffed but we felt very spoilt as they attended to our guests every need. We were never rushed & when it was time to pay , well I must admit I thought it would be much higher 😅 WONDERFUL LOVELY Highly Recommended 5/5

Lovely pub which was very busy. Food really tasty and drink quality good too. The owner brought out a dish for us to try on the house! We were made to feel very special. Thank you.

The service was excellent. A very efficient waitress called Lotty was our main waitress. She was very friendly and went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I would recommend The Mops and Brooms to my friends.

After an initial visit when we found the food indifferent A second visit was a lesson learnt! I don’t believe even a professional reviewer would rate a restaurant on one visit. So to our second visit. Our Sunday lunch was quite superb. Even a traditional roast was outstanding in quality and from an extensive menu. Again, many unusual deserts too and I noticed other diners seemed to be enjoying their choice too. The service on both occasions was excellent and personal. I have never enjoyed a better Sunday lunch - thank you!

Can't understand some of the reviews from 2019. There are no tables and chairs - this is just a counter in a petrol filling station shop that serves coffee and a few basic snacks. Did some of the old reviews actually refer to a different place?

Very understaffed as usual - Every time I come here with my Daughter I have to wait 5 minutes+ in the entrance just to be acknowledged, and the staff seem very oblivious to anything that’s going on in the restaurant. Serious management is needed in this place. I don’t expect much of the Food here, however it’s getting progressively worse. Won’t be coming again.

If there was an option for 0 stars, I would give it. I ordered a vegan meal and they gave me real cheese and denied it 3 times. When we asked to see the wrapping, they brought out a vegan spread (very different to thick goats cheese on my tart)! If answered on the first occasion, this wouldn’t have been an issue. Anyone with food allergies / intolerances / preferences - avoid.

We had an incredible evening at the White Horse Shenley this evening. Thank you to our waitress Jolie and chefs Marian and Chen. Food and service outstanding. Most of all on leaving my car failed to start despite several attempts. We were invited to wait inside despite the staff wanting to finish up after a very busy service A big shout out to everyone for helping us out, offering to make hot drinks and just being there. A huge thank you for getting us out of the rain into the dry.

Brandon was so helpful and pleasant and ensured we had a good service. Thanks so much for looking after us tonight. The carvery was pretty good, although the portions of meat ‘could’ have been a bit more plentiful…. All round, a good meal, made better because Brandon was there xxx

I have been in here a few times now. Always a friendly place. The staff work so hard. The managers are always juggling a million jobs. the cleaners are lovely. The cleanest I have been to. Thanks Paulime.
