The best restaurants serving British food in Hertsmere East of England

We had a family function including lots of grandchildren and I must compliment Sinead who manages the restaurant for her friendly and professional manner! The food was also top class

Food was very cold, we tried to get the attention of staff to send it back, no one came, we just ate it anyway could not be bothered with the fuss., it’s advertised that the Roast Pork comes with crackling, nothing on the plate, we did mention this and they bought some fatty skin, definitely not crackling. Red cabbage, tasteless as were the roast potatoes. All disappointing. We’ve been before and not this bad!

I have eaten here a few times and the food is always fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend.

What has happened to "THE THREE HORSESHOES" It used to be traditional OLD ENGLISH VILLAGE PUB. Old Beams - Magnificent Oak Bar - with Horseshoe Brasses on the pillars. Open log fire/logs stacked @ the side. Excellent sausages (which I may add came from my local butchers in Norfolk). The pub was used in The Avengers - The Professionals - plus films. Eddie Dexter who had this pub for many years would cry as I do to visit and see this BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY PUB DESTROYED !

Can't understand some of the reviews from 2019. There are no tables and chairs - this is just a counter in a petrol filling station shop that serves coffee and a few basic snacks. Did some of the old reviews actually refer to a different place?

We came to the fish and chips shop obviously for some fish and chips and we got what we ordered. Service was slightly slow, but what do you expect from a friendly and talkative cashier. It's a small business and is rarely busy.

Ordered our food at 6.15pm it did not arrive until 8.00pm not acceptable

Took so long to get to us food was very cold its the same driver as last time our food was cold

Last time we went roast beef was a bit too rare for my liking had to ask for it to be medium.

Very good pub, lots of space with Sky TV. The menu is comprehensive, and the food is fairly priced and good value for money. The only problem is that the parking is a bit tight on the main road as there are yellow lines everywhere. The Manor Road car park is not too far from the pub, but costs £2.20 per hour. Our food arrived quickly, and the portions were good. All in all, we will be returning.

Had a one night stay with my dog and elderly Mum. The staff were very welcoming, friendly, professional and efficient. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished with all of the amenities you’d want for a short stay. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp clean white sheets and we even had a dog bed, bowl and welcome pack in our room for Margot (the dog). We also enjoyed our evening meal which was delicious and again our server was excellent. The pub was obviously very popular with locals and had a very friendly atmosphere that any visitors would enjoy. Will definitely stay here again - Thank you Red Lion team for our making our stay so enjoyable.

What a great pub! Went for a long lunch and was greatly impressed with the choices on the menu. We had the prawn tempura sourdough toastie, yuzu mayo and salad… wow was delish! Prawns perfectly cooked, still crunchy, salad fresh and with a lovely dressing. Followed by dessert and coffee, all to a high standard. We were made to feel at home by the excellent service provided by Ben, thank you, nothing was too much trouble. We have already put our next visit in our diaries.

Visited with friends and we were absolutely treated; brilliant food, great environment, and Lindsey was a fab server. Thank you for a great evening!

If I could rate as a zero I would. I was staying at next door Travelodge. I will write a separate glowing review for the hospitality of them. This pub however did not believe in hospitality. On my first visit I asked for a tab to be put over the bar which was agreed by the duty manager. On asking for my meal the server LIV refused said tab and made me pay for the meal and 1 pint outstanding immediately. Quite Embarrassing. On one occasion I used one of their glasses for my own alcohol. This glass was taken off me whilst still full and marched behind their counter. I asked if I could have ice to take to my room. Liv again refused and said that glass was not allowed to be used in hotel there was no agreement with hotel in that way. Having used Hostelries almost daily for the last 5 years. And this 1 in particular several times in the last year . This member of staff was shocking in her disdainful attulitude to hotel clientele. After the aforementioned rude behavior I entered the pub tonight to be told by LIS "YOUR BARRED" I Acan only hope a little word from above might educate this young lady to what hostelry is all about. Especially when married to a hotel next door. I dare to think what business Toby Inn are missing out on as a DIRECT result of the attitude of LIV. My reviews in most cases are very positive. But in this case this lady is TOXIC. The sooner gone the better this company will do.
