The Green Dragon in Hertsmere

Have eaten here a few times. Twice in the last year I think. Good food and service. Thursday night is 30% off which is needed because would have been a little expensive without the discount.

Great food, didn’t need to book, just tried it on way home from London from searching reviews in area. Didn’t disappoint, would recommend.

Pub just outside town, lovely for a relaxing lunch during the week. Service and food both very good.

Had my son’s christening here in July for around 50 people and it genuinely couldn’t have gone better. Matt and his team were fantastic in the preparation and allowed us to come in before the pub opened to set up the area and put all the flowers out. All the kids had enough space to play in the garden and said we could have bouncy castle if we wanted to. Food was superb with no faults across all guest and very reasonable for two courses on the lunch menu. All in all we had a fantastic time and were very grateful. Some of the guests have already booked to use the pub for another party.

WOW!! Our first time there and definitely not our last. It was an impulse decision and a very good one. We didn’t have a reservation but were lucky enough to get a table. The food, venue and staff are superb. The sea bream special was scrumptious and hope it’s on their menu again. Onion soup starter and buffalo wings to share were very tasty. The gentlemen that attended us where impecable, nice, smiley and super correct. Thanks for the restoration in our tough days. Great fresh high quality food.

Always such a lovely experience at this gem of a pub! From the food, the friendly service and the wonderful garden, it really does cater to all. We must protect local pubs and not “chains” like this in the area at all costs - the puddings too are also delicious.

1st visit.....definitely wont be our last! Ambiance, food and service first class. Michael even ensured our dog Ted was watered n given a tasty treat.....so kind and beyond our expectations. Really appreciated such a nice unhurried, long lunch. Thank you guys and see you again soon. Regards Kathy.

Really welcoming with good service. Excellent vegetarian Wellington with gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The haloumi stack was also good with a variety of vegetables dressed with pesto. Elegant beer garden with views of the neighbouring fields.

Food was lovely however no atmosphere and from the moment we entered we were being rushed even though the table was not booked after us - so won’t return

Passed by when returning to London after a long weekend break. Staff were cold and seemed confused and uncomfortable with our presence. We’re initially seated overlooking the fields, then when we were only staying for a drink we’re relocated to a table overlooking the bin store and car park. Very London. Shouldn’t have made eye contact.

We really enjoyed the food. A good variety on the menu for all and reasonably priced. Lunch menu £15.95 2 courses. Everyone enjoyed what they had. No packet food here all cooked from scratch with great flavour thank you !

Such a shame to be writing this, after a positive reviews from previous experiences. I feel obligated to write what happened during a family meal out. Order four steak all differently cooked, the manager brought out two of the steaks when asked, how were these steaks cooked, he replied he did not know and rudely put the steaks down on the table and walked off. Shocking behaviour from a manager. If he was unsure, that’s fine but he could have said it politely. Unfortunately due to this, you have lost very good customers. But we certainly won’t be returning when there are plenty of other great restaurants near by with management that have time and appreciate customers 👎🏼

We visited for a Sunday roast this Sunday. We got there early and sat in their lovely garden over looking the fields in the sunshine with a drink. The service was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and quick and the roast was amazing and the kids roast is massive. Would highly recommend!

The same every time-probably fourth family meal we have had here, always friendly and accommodating. Meals are plentiful and wholesome and very good value for money compared to other local pubs in the area. The pub is a bit of the beaten track, but worth it when you get here.

The staff were too busy chatting to recognise I was stood waiting, so I sat at a dining table and was still ignored. I noticed one lady was wearing a uniform tee shirt and asked her if she works there, to which she replied "Yes". I asked for a menu and she asked me if I'd booked (this was 12:15pm on a Saturday). I replied "No" and she said I could have a table anyway..

My wife and I went for to the Green Dragon for lunch lunch yesterday,where as usual the menu was varied & interesting,and the service polite & attentive.We were shown into the back conservatory where,in the sunny conditions & 17C temperature,the dining experience was most pleasant.It was not enhanced by the arrival at an adjacent table of people who were short & offhand to the staff but,thankfully, didn't stay - allowing the other diners to enjoy their meal.

It was too cold for me there so we decided to move to the main dining room. This seemed to perturb the manager who became quite sniffy about us moving. Again, there was door open behind me causing a significant draught so I closed it. I explained this to a member of staff who gave a curt reply. We decided to leave and eat elsewhere. This isn’t the first time I have found the manager to be unfriendly. Interestingly, the Green Dragon was half empty whereas the Duke of York was full. I wonder why?

Had the nicest meal in the afternoon sun today! Staff were so friendly and welcoming a hidden gem - highly recommended!

Just been for a lovely Sunday lunch with my wife and daughter. Great menu with lots of specials. Sirloin beef was really well cooked and Gnocci was tasty. They also have a kids menu and my daughter liked her fish and chips. Friendly and attentive service and lovely breeze from the open doors to cool you down on a warm day like today. We'll be back.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now - the food quality here is unbeatable and very reasonably priced. I haven’t found anything comparable in the Enfield or Barnet area so we keep returning for birthdays, Sunday roasts, date nights and the Tuesday steak night especially (rib eye is incredible). Staff are always friendly and especially enjoy the cosy interior and relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommended!

Ate at the this pub yesterday evening, never been there before and a bit out of the way but well worth going. Food was excellent and freshly cooked. I had the belly pork, and my partner the lamb shank. Both were perfectly cooked and presented. Will definitely be going there again.

Nice little pub in the middle of nowhere. The.food is amazing and the staff really friendly. It's an independent pub and I believe we should support these businesses if they deserve it and this pub surely does. I recommend the lamb shank and the pork belly.

Roast beef dinner, lovely. Is getting more expensive though. Meal two starters, 2 roast dinners and 3 beers, £88.

Meal for two,with mains, dessert and four drinks was £90. Food and service were good.

Love this pub.....a regular visitor on a Friday evening and occasionally other nights. The manager and staff are very friendly and the food is exceptional. There are some great offers on atm so best to book. If l could change something, l would love to see the vegan curry on the main menu as it's perfectly cooked and my personal favourite! I would also introduce some live music as l think it would be a great hit with the customers. A 5 stars for me!

The food is always fabulous here. Sunday roast is a must with the best Yorkshire puddings that would impress James Martin! Alana our waitress was very welcoming and so helpful she really is a delightful young lady and the green dragon are very lucky to have her. All the staff are very welcoming but Alana deserves a special shout out, thank you for looking after us today!

We have been coming to the Green Dragon for years and have always had a delicious meal here. We particularly love the 241 steak nights on Tuesdays. Every meal we've ever had here has been fab and the service is always attentive and friendly. Perfect for cosy winter lunches and dinners as well as summer days especially with the nice garden out the back looking over the field. Also dog friendly for the cherry on top :)

I have eaten at the Green Dragon many times and the food is always delicious. The staff are helpful and professional. We enjoy the Green Dragon so much that we decided to have our daughter’s baptism reception there. As always, the food that was served was of good quality and taste. The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the day was a great success. I can’t recommend enough!

I've cycled or driven past this place for nearly 30 years and finally had a chance to stop for a pint. Only 1 ale (Rebellion IPA), well kept. Friendly, helpful staff.

Best Sunday roast locally. Superb!

I haven't actually been for a meal to the Green Dragon because I live a bit too far away. However, my brother loves the food which they serve there and he says that the chef there makes the best mushroom soup he has ever tasted!

We haven't eaten here in a while but food was always lovely we usually just pop in for a cocktail or two. The Apple Pietini is amazing! Lovely staff.

We were accommodated on a Sunday without a booking with our baby son. They were extremely friendly and quick with service. The food was delicious we had the pork belly roast (a huge portion!) and ox cheek (melt in the mouth). Extremely tasty and decent portions. Would definitely recommend and revisit if we're in the area.

Sometime since last visited . Greatly improved, good menu with excellent choices for all good value and excellent friendly service. Plan to visit again with family.

I wasn't especially impressed by the meal but very impressed by the efforts to address our quibbles! These guys work really hard to make this a success and our neighbours recommended it very highly. Just proves the old adage - you can't get it right every time. But what they do seem to get right is the follow up when things go a bit awry

My partner and I had Sunday lunch at the pub today. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The whole atmosphere and the service was very good. This pub jumps to the top of our go-to list, particularly because the Sunday lunch was so delicious.

Visited with friends for a mid week meal. Everything was excellent. I’m doing Dry January and they got me some Guinness Zero for me. They are located outside the ULEZ Zone. Definitely going back.

Reserved a table for Christmas dinner with the girls, table at the back on the conservatory, got quite busy and noisy but I guess that's expected with the holidays. Room got super hot at a point but as soon as it was pointed out they sorted it immediately. The service was pretty good and the food was absolutely amazing!!! The Trio-roast dinner is absolutely heavenly with all the meats cooked to perfection. The beef came exactly on the point we each requested and the veggies were spot on as well. We were a group of 6 and we ordered starters, mains and pudding as well as 2-3 rounds of drinks; it all came to £74/pp. Pretty decent price Definitely will visit again.

We went for a Sunday Roast and it was delicious. The beef was cooked really well and the portion size was great. Quick service, really busy and lovely staff! Sticky toffee pudding was also yummy.

We have been coming to the Barnet Green Dragon for many years and we never had any disappointment. We usually go for its special 2 courses lunch menu on Saturday. What we love the most about The Green Dragon is its food quality & its food presentation as it always make us feel like eating in a posh restaurant, but with a pub's price tag. The food is always delicious and we don't think we can find anywhere that can serve more value for money food than here, in Barnet, or maybe across the whole London. Service is always great too. All staffs are friendly and service is always attentive. Highly Recommended!

Saturday afternoon and 30 people for a 3 course lunch for my mother in law’s 90th birthday. Mat and the team couldn’t have done more. The food was delicious and our guests were so complementary. This is our third function at The Green Dragon. We intend to go back for a quieter dinner soon. Fantastic guys thank you. Michael and Elaina nailed the brief. Highly recommended!! Mike & Sue

It’s been a while since we last came to the Green Dragon for a Sunday lunch. My partner and I have always thought this is easily the best Sunday pub lunch anywhere around here. It’s been recently redecorated and to be fair it was looking a little tired last time we came. Prices are towards the top end of the range for Sunday lunch but the quality of the ingredients and the food on your plate cannot be criticised at all. We had the beef sirloin and it was incredibly juicy and tender. Overall an excellent meal although sadly we missed out on the cauliflower cheese because it was sold out. We were booked very late in the day. Remember to book your table as it’s always busy!!

Incredible place for a Sunday roast!! I’ve been doing driving lessons around Barnet and we have gone past several times so we booked a table. The staff were really lovely and attentive without being overbearing. We all had the roast beef which was delicious and cooked perfectly. I love when it’s a single thick and juicy slice. We ended with sticky toffee pudding and a hot drink. Think this will be our frequent haunt for Sunday roasts now!

Very very expensive absolutely not worth £50 per person over priced and over rated. Would not recommend.

It's bad. It's very bad. I can't get the sticky toffee pudding out of my head. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. As soon as I got home I fell in a food coma and woke up wanting more. I will be trying to convince my friends to make the long trek to TGD cause the food and service is worth it.

I was looking for a venue to host a Celebration of Life and came across The Green Dragon. It’s a superb country pub just outside of High Barnet. My request was a little unusual as we were ‘live streaming’ the event from Jamaica and Michael, Matt and the team could not have been more helpful. They truly made us feel at home and catered for our every need. The Green Dragon will now be my ‘local’, as it has great food, a lovely atmosphere and has a wonderful team. Thanks Michael and Matt for creating a truly memorable and special evening for my family.

Used The Green Dragon for a funeral live stream and all went well. Will definitely come back.

Great little pub with good beer!

Steak lovers paradise and peppercorn sauce is wow! Tuesday evening is a bargain too , 2nd steak is free! How bad. Great wines and draughts, perfect and gr8 parking.
