The Green Dragon in Hertsmere

This place is perfect. In the summer the terrace over looking the fields is beautiful and in the winter the indoors is cosy and welcoming. The food is superb and the mid weekly deals such as steak night are a great bargain. I recently held my husbands birthday in their private event space too - the organization was seamless (thanks to Haimish) and a private dinner for 24 went off without a hitch. They were super accommodating for the kids, dog friendly and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Always giving this place a 10/10!!!

Good pub food, convenient location with a lot of parking.

This place is amazing. The service, the food and atmosphere is 10 out of 10. The boys are very attentive and the food is great 👍 We go there in regular basis and never been disappointed!

Came on a high recommendation with my U3a group, 6 of us. Very nice table Sadly the food was disappointing to say the least. Calamari was tough, spring roll looked pathetic, my own single overdone rasher of streaky bacon sat forlornly on some potato product. Not nice. For mains one had an overpriced beef burger which she said she could have soled her shoe with & the chips were just potatoes cut in half and fried. Three of us had chicken. The chicken was good but there was no mash, just hassle back potatoes, which were very small and uninteresting. The broccoli was so tough we couldn’t cut it with our knives. £117 later we left to have dessert and coffee at a member’s home. Also there is no disabled toilet and one lady with a walking aid found it almost impossible to negotiate the two doors to even get into the ladies.

Great local Barnet gastro pub. The food is always excellent and way above the average pub grub. Obviously have a good chef in their kitchen. Fantastic offers on throughout the week and Sunday lunch highly recommended

A great place to eat, just 3 mins from South Mims services. Plenty of parking. Staff were welcoming and plenty of seating available. Menu choices were good and service was quick. Food was excellent and portion size good. The only negative thing . Was the bill was not accurate. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Food and atmosphere are decent. But unfortunately the staff at the front door is way too direct and it doesn't feel like good customer service. It sounded like I was working for him when he told me to sit at a table and not to go outside. His tone didn't feel right

We had a large table for 12 of us. We were sat in the room at the back we had more or less to ourselves and it was perfect. The restaurant was warm, the staff friendly and the food was really good. Thank you ❤️

We were coming back from Peterborough Saturday night when we went down a large pothole and burst our car tyre making it undrivable. We managed to limp to the Green Dragon car park. The staff were lovely and said we could stay until the breakdown truck arrived. When the pub manager left at midnight he couldn’t believe we were still there. He opened up the pub so I could use the loo and said he would leave the car park unlocked so the recovery van could get in. We were finally picked up at 1.15 am. The kindness we were shown meant such a lot to us. I recommend everyone should visit this lovely pub.

Had a lovely Sunday roast yesterday cooked perfectly ,had Squid to start which was beautiful, good service and very friendly, definitely be returning

We went to the Green Dragon for our family pre-Christmas lunch yesterday, and as usual enjoyed the experience. The menu had a good selection of starters, main courses & desserts, the wine list has a good choice & both food & wine were reasonably priced. Nice service from Ellie & her colleagues complemented the occasion perfectly.

Truly excellent experience and really good value. Food wonderful, staff very friendly, professional and helpful. Cosy dining area. Can't recall the last time I saw a selection of scotches and cigars! like this. Icing on the cake BYOB on a Friday! Added to our "must re-visit list".

Some where worth visiting for a lovely bit of grub!

We had a really amazing lunch this week for 8 friends. Menu was very different and offered so many choices. Very friendly staff and will certainly return and will recommend it.

I went on a Wednesday lunchtime with my husband and dog. Felt very welcome as soon as we entered- the dog was given lots of attention! Very friendly staff with no up selling at all. Food came in good time and was delicious. I would recommend the lamb shank. We are definitely going back. The price is very good too.

Incredibly disappointed, visited to have a quick drink for half an hour before heading home to be told Sunday isn’t a drinking day by a very grumpy manager. Appreciate Sunday is primarily a good old roast day but it was half empty and there were multiple unoccupied tables at the time of visiting which was mid afternoon and certainly after the lunch rush. I am a regular there and bring my work team weekly for the steak night which made the service even more painful. The food / drink is good! Alternative nearby pub welcomed warmly despite being very full.

Excellent lunchtime menu, great food & service

5 of us (3 adults, 2 kids) ate 2 courses. ZERO complaints. Service = attentive, friendly, perfect. Food = tasty, hot, fresh, perfectly cooked! Honestly, what a breath of fresh air to find the quality this place offers without being pompous and pretentious. Well done!!!

The standard of the food and the presentation is far better than the previous tennents managed to achieve. When you take into account the extremely reasonable pricing plus all the special various deals in particular nights like the 2 steak meals for the price of 1 then it is certainly a lot of value for the money. Portions are also very generous.

My top favourite pub. The chef is extraordinary he definitely makes the best stakes I've ever had. The staff is super lovely. Can't recommend it enough.

Great food, didn’t need to book, just tried it on way home from London from searching reviews in area. Didn’t disappoint, would recommend.

Pub just outside town, lovely for a relaxing lunch during the week. Service and food both very good.

Had my son’s christening here in July for around 50 people and it genuinely couldn’t have gone better. Matt and his team were fantastic in the preparation and allowed us to come in before the pub opened to set up the area and put all the flowers out. All the kids had enough space to play in the garden and said we could have bouncy castle if we wanted to. Food was superb with no faults across all guest and very reasonable for two courses on the lunch menu. All in all we had a fantastic time and were very grateful. Some of the guests have already booked to use the pub for another party.

WOW!! Our first time there and definitely not our last. It was an impulse decision and a very good one. We didn’t have a reservation but were lucky enough to get a table. The food, venue and staff are superb. The sea bream special was scrumptious and hope it’s on their menu again. Onion soup starter and buffalo wings to share were very tasty. Wonderful food, great portion sizes and friendly staff!

Always such a lovely experience at this gem of a pub! From the food, the friendly service and the wonderful garden, it really does cater to all. We must protect local pubs and not “chains” like this in the area at all costs - the puddings too are also delicious.

1st visit.....definitely wont be our last! Ambiance, food and service first class. Michael even ensured our dog Ted was watered n given a tasty treat.....so kind and beyond our expectations. Really appreciated such a nice unhurried, long lunch. Thank you guys and see you again soon. Regards Kathy.

Really welcoming with good service. Excellent vegetarian Wellington with gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The haloumi stack was also good with a variety of vegetables dressed with pesto. Elegant beer garden with views of the neighbouring fields.

Passed by when returning to London after a long weekend break. Staff were cold and seemed confused and uncomfortable with our presence. We’re initially seated overlooking the fields, then when we were only staying for a drink we’re relocated to a table overlooking the bin store and car park. Very London. Shouldn’t have made eye contact.

We really enjoyed the food. A good variety on the menu for all and reasonably priced. Lunch menu £15.95 2 courses. Everyone enjoyed what they had. No packet food here all cooked from scratch with great flavour thank you !

Such a shame to be writing this, after a positive reviews from previous experiences. I feel obligated to write what happened during a family meal out. Order four steak all differently cooked, the manager brought out two of the steaks when asked, how were these steaks cooked, he replied he did not know and rudely put the steaks down on the table and walked off. Shocking behaviour from a manager. If he was unsure, that’s fine but he could have said it politely. Unfortunately due to this, you have lost very good customers. But we certainly won’t be returning when there are plenty of other great restaurants near by with management that have time and appreciate customers 👎🏼

We visited for a Sunday roast this Sunday. We got there early and sat in their lovely garden over looking the fields in the sunshine with a drink. The service was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and quick and the roast was amazing and the kids roast is massive. Would highly recommend!

The same every time-probably fourth family meal we have had here, always friendly and accommodating. Meals are plentiful and wholesome and very good value for money compared to other local pubs in the area. The pub is a bit of the beaten track, but worth it when you get here.

The staff were too busy chatting to recognise I was stood waiting, so I sat at a dining table and was still ignored. I noticed one lady was wearing a uniform tee shirt and asked her if she works there, to which she replied "Yes". I asked for a menu and she asked me if I'd booked (this was 12:15pm on a Saturday). I replied "No" and she said I could have a table anyway..

My wife and I went for to the Green Dragon for lunch lunch yesterday,where as usual the menu was varied & interesting,and the service polite & attentive.We were shown into the back conservatory where,in the sunny conditions & 17C temperature,the dining experience was most pleasant.It was not enhanced by the arrival at an adjacent table of people who were short & offhand to the staff but,thankfully, didn't stay - allowing the other diners to enjoy their meal.

Again, there was door open behind me causing a significant drdraught so I closed it. I explained this to a member of staff who gave a curt reply. We decided to leave and eat elsewhere. This isn’t the first time I have found the manager to be unfriendly. Interestingly, the Green Dragon was half empty whereas the Duke of York was full. I wonder why?

Just been for a lovely Sunday lunch with my wife and daughter. Great menu with lots of specials. Sirloin beef was really well cooked and Gnocci was tasty. They also have a kids menu and my daughter liked her fish and chips. Friendly and attentive service and lovely breeze from the open doors to cool you down on a warm day like today. We'll be back.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now - the food quality here is unbeatable and very reasonably priced. I haven’t found anything comparable in the Enfield or Barnet area so we keep returning for birthdays, Sunday roasts, date nights and the Tuesday steak night especially (rib eye is incredible). Staff are always friendly and especially enjoy the cosy interior and relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommended!

Nice little pub in the middle of nowhere. The.food is amazing and the staff really friendly. It's an independent pub and I believe we should support these businesses if they deserve it and this pub surely does. I recommend the lamb shank and the pork belly.

Ate at the this pub yesterday evening, never been there before and a bit out of the way but well worth going. Food was excellent and freshly cooked. I had the belly pork, and my partner the lamb shank. Both were perfectly cooked and presented. Will definitely be going there again.

Roast beef dinner, lovely. Is getting more expensive though. Meal two starters, 2 roast dinners and 3 beers, £88.

Meal for two,with mains, dessert and four drinks was £90. Food and service were good.

Love this pub.....a regular visitor on a Friday evening and occasionally other nights. The manager and staff are very friendly and the food is exceptional. There are some great offers on atm so best to book. If l could change something, l would love to see the vegan curry on the main menu as it's perfectly cooked and my personal favourite! I would also introduce some live music as l think it would be a great hit with the customers. A 5 stars for me!

The food is always fabulous here. Sunday roast is a must with the best Yorkshire puddings that would impress James Martin! Alana our waitress was very welcoming and so helpful she really is a delightful young lady and the green dragon are very lucky to have her. All the staff are very welcoming but Alana deserves a special shout out, thank you for looking after us today!

I have eaten at the Green Dragon many times and the food is always delicious. The staff are helpful and professional. We enjoy the Green Dragon so much that we decided to have our daughter’s baptism reception there. As always, the food that was served was of good quality and taste. The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the day was a great success. I can’t recommend enough!

We have been coming to the Green Dragon for years and have always had a delicious meal here. We particularly love the 241 steak nights on Tuesdays. Every meal we've ever had here has been fab and the service is always attentive and friendly. Perfect for cosy winter lunches and dinners as well as summer days especially with the nice garden out the back looking over the field. Also dog friendly for the cherry on top :)

I have driven past this lovely pub innumerable times but today was my first visit. It will definitely not be the last. Highly recommended!
