Was very surprised at how good it was. It was the first time I had been there and was not expecting much but it was a convenient place to meet a friend. Would thoroughly recommend to anybody. If you are disabled make sure you use the second entrance

Walked into the café thinking our friend had arranged a breakfast reservation for eight people. He and his wife had not arrived at the point when the manageress said “reservation. What reservation. We don’t do reservations”. My heart was sinking like the Titanic as her last sentence was hammering my ear drums; but then I noticed her beaming smile as she said, “How many of you are there”? “Eight” I said, expecting a deep intake of breath and an “it’ll take us some time to get things organised for that many”. Oh, no; I was wrong again. “We’ll just have to pull some tables together so you can all sit together” were her ever so encouraging words. At this moment, our friend arrived with his wife. We men gathered together four small tables into a makeshift long one with enough seating for us all. We got comfortable, and the manageress had two young lady staff members take our drinks order. She then handed out the menus, and we all ordered our breakfast meals. In-a-nutshell, all the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Everyone ordered and received exactly what they had asked for, in good time; and were exactly as advertised. As we prepared to leave, and as we departed, everyone complemented all the staff for their professionalism and quality of the food. Our party were off to far-away places, so needed a good start for the journey. In the Skylark Café car park, goodbyes and hugs were interlaced with complements about our dining experience. So well done Skylark as a local, I will return for another pleasant breakfast very soon.

After spending the late morning looking round and browsing the Museum, we had lunch close by at the Duke’s Head before heading home. Excellent sweet chilli chicken wraps and the lasagne was very filling with wedges and salad. Definitely on my list of good food and drink.

We visit The Hippodrome very regularly, and it is always quite busy, which means finding a table can be quite difficult. What makes things worse is that the tables are rarely cleared, so you usually end up putting everything onto another table, which is usually stacked high with every one else's glasses and plates. However, yesterday, a lady saw us about to sit down at a dirty table and actually took away the used glasses and plates and wiped the table. The pub was busy, and so our drinks took a while to arrive, but the food came out soon after and was very good, as usual. However, by the time we left, there were spare tables piled high with used glasses and plates again. The pub is quite good but the service can be a bit slow, when busy.

What I like about the PETROU Brothers Fish & Chips store, is that they focus and have done for years on the best quality Fish and Potatoes' using the best vegetable oils, having a great Dutch equipment the oil fryer, prices are good and the portions are over generous, all together with really happy and friendly staff, including the home deliveries, on time and still very hot, ensuring good quality in all the fields of service. Several evening I had completly forgot about their closing times, I turned up late, door was closed they were just cleaning up and closing, but they opened the door and cooked and served me my take away fish and chips, that's customers dedication for you at its best. Well done the Brothers and the staff get a 100% score from me.

I’ve been so looking forward to a proper English Sunday lunch with all the fixings…. Well, the gravy, Yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes were amazing. However, I’m not sure the purpose of a second serving of roasted potatoes! The cabbage was good and so was the lamb. The beef was okay- very overdone (imo). The service was excellent which made up for the meal shortcomings.

BEST Sunday lunch I’ve had! I’m visiting and have been looking forward to a proper English Sunday lunch - the last place we tried had a five star rating and everyone raved. It was marginal at best. You do it properly and perfectly! Everything was absolutely perfect from the service/wait staff all through dessert. The roast was delicious and so tender, smashed potatoes were perfectly creamy, the Yorkshire pudding, gravy, sprouts all of it was so very good! I fly out in a few days and am so happy I got my English lunch.

Had a roast chicken dinner.was ok but yorkshire pudding was burnt so we're the 3 very tiny roast potatoes.not enough veg.about 2 tablespoons of cauliflower 1 quarter of a sliced carrot and about 2 tablespoons of savoy cabbage.chicken was large so maybe less chicken and more veg would have been better.red wine lovely but the vodka and cokes tasted funny that my daughter had also told them when ordering 2 white wine spritzers that lemonade was wanted not soda, but they had soda in them which tasted weird.the lad replaced them but it still tasted funny.dont think we will be going again.sorry
