Hippodrome in Fenland

This a very nice WS pub,one of the best. Beautiful inside,and old cinema. BUT WS MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE INEDIBLE CHIPS THEY KEEP SERVING. THEY ARE HARd. When will they sort this problem out !

Really good eggs Benedict and a full cooked breakfast. Service runs like clockwork, staff friendly and efficient.

Good range of beer. BUT speaking from my own experience I don't have a very good time in there. I am very hard of hearing and wear hearing and when I go to the bar to order a meal ( which is something that is relatively easy ) I nearly always find it difficult as I am made to feel idiotic as I can't hear bar staff or they can't hear me and I usually come away from the bar feeling very self conscious being made aware of some major failing on my part . Thankfully no body talks to me in there to upset me so I think I will give it a miss. Glad it works for other people though .

A wonderfully atmospheric pub. Full of history with dozens of posters of the films shown there in it's heyday.

Yes, it's like walking back in time to The Hippodrome(excluding seating, of course) the decor of old posters made such a difference than what can be a usual "Spoons" ex bank. I am definitely in favour of re purposing these old buildings, The staff came across very friendly and always served with a smile, The manageress led from the front. If she wasn't out front, keeping the place looking tidy, she was behind the bar serving or cloth in hand cleaning, I didn't eat there, so I could not comment, the atmosphere, well it's a "spoons" very open so always lots of background chit, chat.

Only had coffees. They were fine

Weatherspoons are always a decent place for good price food and drinks and this place is no exception. I love the decor as they have kept the character of the old place very well

Ordered the American burger for my child it was so hard it could of been thrown like a frisbee, we ordered two mixed grills (well done) when my partner politely explained one had to be well done due to myself being pregnant they literally gave the impression of they don’t care, I don’t understand how hard it is to just make sure the meat is well done for a legit reason, it’s the first time we’ve been to a Wetherspoons where this has happened, now not being funny it wasn’t busy, I myself have worked in the industry & wouldn’t dare of met a paying customer with such ignorance, and telling me it has to be a certain spec yeah there are many forms of cooking meat - blue, medium well, well done to list a few! The only plus side is at least the dog will eat well tonight!

The food and drink are value for money with a good selection. Centrally located with plenty of space. As with all SPOONS, the attraction is value and convenience, and you would have to go a long way to compare to this national chain. Toilets located in the penthouse, as usual, are not that convenient if you struggle with stairs.

Beautiful setting, the decor was a little dated but suited the character of the building. Service was amazing and food was good and tasty.

Food always brought over promptly and unique-style setting being based in the old Theatre.

Ordered 2 meals with drinks on the app and only got 1, went inside asked about the 2nd meal just to be told it hadn't been ordered. Needless to say we won't be going back, and recommend everyone else spends their money at businesses that appreciate it

Absolutely a fabulous place to have a bevy. What a beautiful building Wetherspoons have turned it into.

Nice enough food, but no clean tables, currently 17 tables around me with dirty glasses & crockery, been like that for over an hour.

Well, it's a Spoons and food and service are as you would expect. No problems there. And of course, the loos (which were spotless) are a bazillion miles away up flights of stairs. Not such a hike as some other Wetherspoons I have been to but still far enough to raise an ironic smile when I went in search of them. But at least there is a disabled loo at ground level. What I like about the Hippodrome though is that they seem to have gone out of their way to preserve and enhance the Art Deco styling both inside and out. It still feels like a cinema as you walk into the foyer. I love that.

Didn't have a meal. This was my 55th Wetherspoons.. Friday so not too busy. Fully carpeted so absorbs any noise anyway. Quite large but with a comforting snugness... Decor good with lots of cinema posters to read.. Toilets clean, nice inner gun barrel and film reel touches on the mirrors.. yes I'm ex forces lol Would I visit again.... definitely if I'm ever in the area again..

Very quick service despite being very busy, food was hot, southern fried chicken wrap and cheesy pizza garlic bread is definitely recommended

The food was just ok. I ordered a burger 🍔 and I kid you not. It was tiny along with about a dozen 🍟 if that. So, I'm not impressed with this pub, Spoons used to be good, but sadly, not any longer

Stayed at the Hippodrome for a short break and had a very, very comfortable room tucked away in a quiet spot. A bed the size of a football pitch awaited us on arrival, it was almost possible to get lost in it. The hectare of mattress was an exceptional way to spend the night and offered comfort the likes of which we'd rarely enjoyed in a hotel. The room was excellent and the bathroom gave us no reason to complain either. Clean, powerful shower, hot water, spot on. The bar is Wetherspoons through and through. A converted cinema, promotional posters adorn the walls offering a fascinating insight into how long the building served it's purpose. The food was good enough without being wonderful and the stay as a whole was perfectly acceptable.

Shouldn't have been surprised how interesting this converted cinema is, but was and that's what Wetherspoon does well. It has the usual long bar with a great range of drinks at very affordable prices. I took my family of 4 for a meal and drinks and they were very happy with the quality and quantity all for less than £28.00!

Can’t beat Wetherspoon’s. This one is just as good as the others we’ve visited.

The hotels rooms are amazing. The bar/hotel staff are great especially Phil who booked is in to the hotel and also ensured our table was clear. Thank you

Absolutely shocking service gave them a birthday cake with. Candle and they just brought it over and shoved it on the table still in the box when we told them we was ready completely ruined the surprise amd didn’t bother to clear the table before giving desert never coming here again absolute disgusting sort it out!!!

It's good but I think you need to clean your pipes. My beer tasted like when you have a cold and all you can taste is mum's nut roast.

Had lunch, was quite busy but no real waiting time. Food prices reasonable, Food was hot, tasty and good quality.

I have frequented The Hippodrome for many years and on a few occasions had to complain about my meal, usually because it was cold. Staff dealt with it and it was replaced with an apology. On the evening of Easter Sunday I ordered a meal and a pint then proceeded to my usual table (No 25) only to find that the seats had been taken by table 24 ... a very big group of friends enjoying their meal and beverages. I waited for my meal sitting at the adjacent table No 26 .. it never arrived and I wasn't approached by any member of staff to enquire if I had ordered a meal for table 25. It then transpired in conversation with various members of staff that my meal was given to table 24 ??.. why, and when I approached staff at the bar to ask if any of them possessed common sense or a tongue in their head to actually find the person who had ordered for table 25. It turned out that it was MY FAULT !! , for sitting at table 26 (immediately adjacent) to 25 and not telling anyone . The subsequent verbal exchange at the bar left me dumbfounded and lost for words.. I was given a full refund but that is not the point as to why I have given this account on the reviews. I was a long term customer of The Hippodrome and many staff knew me, but to be spoken to the way I was and at no point was any apology given, has left a bad taste in my mouth. Ps it wasn't from the food because I didn't get it.

The pub was very busy, but we did arrive around lunchtime. My meal was hot and well presented. It tasted excellent. The staff were attentive and polite. The building itself has a lot of history and if that's your thing. It's worth a visit.

Apart from me over ordering one diet coke using the app. We had a nice relaxing time in the old hippodrome it was very clean it had a nice atmosphere the food was good as it always is .we were full up buy the time we left . toilets were clean and it had some nice historic pictures that i found interesting. Will definitely be back. Best of all was the free parking in city road car park

If you love Wetherspoons, you'll love this place. Old cinema building with loads of old movie posters. Hotel attached. As always, food and drink at great prices.

Not the best place in March for breakfast, or any food come to that. Went with a mate for an early Saturday morning breakfast. Place was less than half full,so not busy. Ordered the large breakfast, but no hash browns, instead asked for extra tomato. We'll that was a joke the mushroom (singular) was the size of a 10p piece, two very thin and dried out rashers of bacon, two lovely meaty sausages, two very over done and dried up fried eggs, and my replacement tomato for the 3 hash browns was just a small half ! When I complained to the duty manageress she said "that's all you'll get" and @ £7.99 I'd suggest a walk up the main road where there are others far better priced and value for the money! One barmaid however was very nice and helpful....Go elsewhere folks..

For a weatherspoons this is great. Good choice of real ales. Plenty of space to sit without being crowded. A tad on the cold side though. I guess energy costs with the heating.

It's a decent spoons It's a shame that it wasn't cleaner. You expect a bit of mess being a spoons pub but there was incredible amount on the floor and tables.

Amazing service. Had an unplanned late drink with my significant other after work with my laptop, left without it and a wonderful member of staff ran out behind me with said laptop bag. Such honesty is such a rare treat. Thank you to the lovely and caring team in March!!!

The hotel is in a decent location. Room was typical wetherspoons - very contemporary. It was a little bit on the small side, compared with other Wetherspoon rooms I've stayed in, but we were only there for one night so not a big deal. We only had the breakfast so it was on par with other with a Wetherspoon breakfast experiences. Overall a decent stay.

The room was very clean, spacious and a fantastic bathroom/shower. Food and drinks in the bar were to their usual standards. Only complaint I could make and this spoilt the night, was the room was very very cold even though we had the heating up to 28 degrees, it only blew out cold air. The receptionist/staff tried on two occasions to get it to warm up but failed on both occasions. No alternative was offered.

The American pancakes were great - very filling and moreish! Love the transformation from a cinema to a Wetherspoons. Good food, reasonable prices and good service despite how busy it was. Easy to park.

Waited for our meals and complained twice about delay. When the steaks arrived, they were rare, though we ordered medium to well done. After sending them back, one came back just about ok. The other was still underdone and inedible. We had waited over an hour for our meals. We were given free drinks that no way made up for a thoroughly spoilt evening. Such a pity because the building is superb, the main reason we visited.

Service good, food far below standard (don't order turkey slice Xmas dinner as the meat is dreadful). Very noisy (loud) and busy, but really nice interior.

One of the best Weatherspoons I have been in. Have kept the Cinema vibe/decor just right.

Not being funny, if you take a child family member out to dinner you expect a reasonable time in delivering the food to table and not have to wait over an hour to get the food you ordered it. I hope the £21 odd that I played for it is worth it

Breakfast the kids had they said was nice and looked decent proportions. Drinks orders correct and delivered timely. Drawings and crayons available which is a help with small kids. Cheap prices. My only issue was the tables were very sticky and we tried two tables before we gave up and just accepted that's what its like there and wiped it ourselves with baby wipes and put napkins down.

Found the hippodrome a bit run down. Food still good. Very efficient service.

Food was medioca and not very hot...I asked a waitress for extra gravy as I usually do and I was told to order it from the bar.

Nice place, nice fresh fast food. Good service. I would suggest giving the carpets a good clean and getting the dead flies out the big light shade though.

I genuinely believe this is the nicest, friendliest place to go out for drinks in March. Had a problem with a few guys harassing my friend and I and management and staff were very quick to check if we were ok, deal with the problem and made sure we had a good night regardless. Thank you so much to the staff.

JD Witherspoon's trademark conversion of an existing building, in this case a cinema, with many original features, and decorated accordingly with old playbills etc. Real ales, including a favourite Woodfordes Wherry. Efficient staff...while there I witnessed a drunk unpleasant character dealt with politely but firmly..got the impression this wasn't a common occurr

Stayed at The Hippodrome for 2 nights while visiting Air Show at nearby Royal Air Force Base. Lovely hotel room, well furnished, very clean and tidy and well laid out with very comfortable bed and great shower. Good breakfast and breakfast menu choice as usual for Wetherspoons. Good service by friendly and very efficient staff. We will be back. Ray & Pam Dumbleton.

We mainly enjoy Witherspoons occasionally we have food that is only warm and not as hat as it should be. But this is rectified without any problems by staff

Very limited GF options, not even any bread. Was very disappointed that they didnt get behind the female world cup and I had to ask them to put it on, no atmosphere so went to the sports bar instead

It wasn't my first time at The Hippodrome and it wasn't my best. Lighting always dodgy. It was very cold from the AC which is never good for your food. I went for a catch up with a friend. Both our orders were wrong. Mine had mushy peas when I asked for no mushy peas. My plate came back with some tracies of peas so it wasn't cooked again. My friends was the wrong salad. At least the drinks were correct. My fish and chips were over cooked and the portion size was smaller than I remember. Thank goodness for the company.

Enjoyed a family meal here. Fairly busy so waited a while for our food which was not as hot as you'd expect normally. We put this down to the staff being rushed off their feet and not being able to bring it right away. Food was delicious and staff were very friendly. Lovely building and clean. Lots of families enjoying themselves which created a lovely atmosphere.

Both meals had been left to go cold on the pass. Not good enough.

Food wasn't very hot but was too hungry to wait for another one to be cooked.

Sadly it wasn't perhaps the best reason for staying here as it was for a family funeral, but i have to say the staff were more than obliging under the circumstances for booking by splitting our stay over two rooms to accommodate us for four nights. The rooms we had were amazing (thanks Ladies of the room cleaning team ) and sorry to say it but so much better than we expected. If anyone wants to stay we highly recommend it as we will definitely stay here again if needs require.

Lovely old building restored and turned in to a great place to drink. Good selection of beer. I like the Doombar myself. Food is good too although I didn’t eat this time. Plenty of free parking nearby also. Good little venue.
