We we’re visiting friends and had a night out - so we picked the local pub. What a brilliant find - great company, fantastic owner (Maggie) and lovely food! As you enter you’re welcomed by the owner, who is a lovely woman - grab a drink and take a seat. The menu is on the board with seasonal meals - and a good range. We ate dinner and dessert, and had a great chat with the owner - so lovely! I’d definitely come back again.

After visiting family in Wisbech we decided to have a meal at the rising sun. However it is with deep regret we all wish we never ate there. All of us suffered severe food poisoning, we did joke at the time how the staff looked a tad unkempt. But little did we know the poor hygiene levels. We have reported the rising sun to peterborough council and strongly advise anyone to avoid at all costs.

Not visited since before lockdown, but can’t wait to return. As always, Maggie gave us a great Rising Sun welcome (she is the latest in a long line of great land lords & ladies). I took my partner for the first time & he was mightily impressed. The food was simply stunning. My partner said his chicken burger was amazing, and he is very fussy about his burgers, having lived in America for 16 years. I opted for the risotto - asparagus, peas and mint - wow! It was so refreshing and light - one of the best I’ve had, and glory be - there was a cheese board - our favourite & so few places offer it now. All this with great service & atmosphere - what more could you ask for? Well done Maggie and team, you’re the pride of Leverington!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

On visiting the Rising Sun on Saturday, 26th September with friends, we were greeted by the landlady who informed us in a surly manner of the Covid restrictions, ie. wear your mask when you enter the premises. We all complied and were taken to our table, when we were allowed to remove our masks. The table surface was sticky, but we presumed it was disinfectant, not very pleasant. Unfortunately the tables don’t comply with the 2 metre rule. At one stage the landlady visited and sat down at the table next to us and chatted to the patrons, who she obviously knew, but she had removed her mask and was sitting with her back to us no more than a foot away from our table, which my partner found very rude but most importantly contravened Covid regulations. When we finished our meal we had to comply with the one-way system rule which entailed having to leave the pub and walk outside in an unlit area, through the car park and then enter bar area again. You had to do this trip every time you wanted to use the gents toilet too. When I entered the bar I did not realised that I had to put my mask on again, as I was already in the establishment and I was forced to leave the premises because it was the only way to use the toilet. I was greeted by the landlady who spoke to me in a very disrespectful and aggressive manner. Yes, I was wrong for not wearing the mask, but it was a genuine mistake, as I had only gone to the toilet and was technically still on the premises. But there are ways to speak to people and unfortunately, she has a lot to learn in that respect. I’m 66 years of age, not a child, I speak from experience, having worked in the public sector for over 35 years and I hope that I would never talk to a customer in that tone of voice. To our dismay, her friends on the table next to us totally ignored the one-way system and came into the bar without going via the trip through the car park . Nothing was said. Obviously it’s one rule for one and another rule others. This is the second time I have eaten at this pub and I have spend nearly £250 there. But unfortunately I will not spend another penny in this establishment. I have no qualms with the staff they were excellent and the food was very tasty. But unfortunately the experience with the landlady has left a very bad taste. I understand times are tough for businesses but without customers you have no business.

We arrived at the Pub around 6.30pm and were warmly greeted. The menu has sufficient choice and is reasonably priced. We started with a prawn and crayfish cocktail and I had the garlic mushrooms, good portions and well prepared. For the main course my wife had the mushroom risotto and I had the poached salmon with new potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, peas and mashed turnip. Again the portions were substantial and very well cooked. The service was excellent and my wife assured me the house wine was also very good. We went with another couple on a midweek evening. We have just moved to the area so didn't know much about local nights out.We turned up and were immediately shown to a table in the restaurant area which was clean and comfortable. Menu's are hearty, wholesome and traditional. After placing our order we waited around 10 minutes for the four meals to arrive. Each one was hot and freshly prepared and there was plenty of it. I like to see what I call traditional food well cooked and well presented. I'm not one for fancy food which someone has played with for ages to make it look like a picture, then get charged an arm and a leg. Then leave still feeling hungry. Each meal was enjoyed by all four of us. We couldn't eat a desert as we were all full with the main course. The service by the young waitress was first class and the total cost of the evening out was £65 which included a couple of drinks. Not bad I'd say. Having visited this "pub" the past two years on our annual charity bike ride from Leicester to Hunstanton. We were met with a truly shocking reception this year forcing us on before we'd even stopped in the car park. We were FALSELY accused of leaving a mess last year and buying very little from the bar, this couldn't be further from the truth if she'd tried ! With 10 cyclists and friends supporting we'd all bought at least one pint and most a second, yes, we, the cyclists did eat our own pasta/energy bars, but others did buy pub food too and we certainly cleaned the beer garden up afterwards, at the very most we'd have left our empties outside, but all our own rubbish would have been placed in bins/taken with us.With this forceful ejection it put a true dampener on the days ride with many not having ridden for charity before! With staff attitude like this I truly can not work out how this place is still going !?Awful, Awful, AWFUL !!!

Wisbech has not contributed much to world peace so far, but this would be a good place to begin the talks. This is real pub food of the highest quality. Appearances can sometimes be a little deceptive, and although this is a real few frills '1980s' venue, the dinner menu befits a good hotel. This was a simple night out, and we found ourselves sitting at a table in the bar just a few feet from the locals and a cosy wood stove to push out a chilly night. Three of our party naturally homed in on the steak and ale pie, which came clad in shortcrust pastry, with mash, fresh veg straight on the plate, and a jug of gravy. Our charming, smart, polite and helpful waitress was ever helpful. Please don't change anything.

Had a job cutting with a knife. Went to try this pub out was going to book the next sat for a party of 8 wont bother. Very good service girls were very good left £5 tip. PS never charged for chips.

Relaxed atmosphere Mags has here. Very welcoming and are happy to bend over backwards to keep the most awkward customer happy. Just what any village is looking for, good old fashioned friendly pub, cosy with log burner and easy listening music. Mags almost treats you like an old friend the moment you enter and feel you're leaving a new friend and the end of your visit. The food, the staff, the all round service is first class and you should ignore any negative reviews as they must come from negative people. I should have come here 3 years ago and will make the point of coming here in the future.

Lovely old fashion pub - totally refurbed about 2-3 years. Maggie landlady is very friendly and very welcoming and loves rugby.I feel that anyone who was by themselves especially a woman our her own would feel extremely comfortable (hence why I write this review) It has wines by glass or bottles, draught beers and bottle. You can eat in the 30/34 seater Resturant which has a small bar or eat in bar area which on cold nights has a wood burner. 2 Outside seated areas - one of which in summer is enclosed and a Bar b q area. The steak night is very popular two steaks £15 with all the trimmings chips peas onion rings mushrooms etc steak cooked to perfection. Also a special board very imaginative. As well normal menu and caters for Vegeterians

I'm a simple guy who wants good value for money and a friendly atmoshphere. The Rising Sun has both in abundance. Just up the road from my folks, I visited for the first time last night. Very friendly, great food, plenty of choices, good beer, good prices and fantastic service. Portions were very generous and each course over-delivered !That's everything I look for so get yourself down to this little gem and give it a try. I'll be back and thanks again for looking after us - see you soon !!

Six of us on holiday at the Secret Garden Camping & Caravan site went here on our first night. Had called previously and booked on the strength of the landladies friendliness and the fact they would allow a dog in the bar. We had great food and beer, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the landlady told us some of the hsitroy of the area. We were all delighted with the place and would return. The bar is smallish but there is a restaurant too.

Visited the pub on Tuesday afternoon for a meal with my wife and dog Freddie. Food served 1200 until 1430 on afternoons. Quiet when we arrived at 12.45 but got busy ish by one. Dog made most welcome in the bar (not lounge.Good efficient service from bar and food arrived in a timely manner. Food very good, I had steak my wife had a burger. Good atmosphere where we were sitting, rustic but clean and inviting surroundings. Bar person attentive but not over familiar and kept on top of his role. Would recommend for good pub style food.

My wife and I had to return to Wisbech on business and as it was Sunday decided to try the "Sunday Roast" . Wow the beef and the lamb were just melt in the mouth. This was a real roast dinner with the meat and vegetables all local. I would say this is "Simply the Best" pub lunchtime roast I have tasted in many years. (Not the ready meal type I have had in the past from other pubs). Washed down by a lovely guest ale that the land lady prides herself on in knowing how to keep good beer - and she does! The welcome, service and value for money were excellent. This is a must visit Pub and Restaurant if you are in the area as you are guaranteed, Good food and Great Beer, lovely atmosphere and excellant value for money What more would you want.

A meal ordered with pre selected dishes was booked for 7.30pm it was served at 9.15pm too long to wait. No apology was received from the host. We were presented with battered onion rings half way through the wait to prevent the hunger pangs. When the meal arrived the chips that I had were too hard to crunch so had to leave them, the steak was fantastic with mushrooms. I do realise that they were busy on that night but bookings should not be taken for a particular time if it cannot be fulfilled. An explanation by the person in charge would have gone a long way to prevent grumbles from our party of 16.I will definitely visit again with a smaller party and will give an update some time in the future.

We called in for lunch and were made to feel very welcome. The landlady seems to have a great knack of keeping the locals happy and welcoming passing trade in a jolly and friendly manner. On arrival we were welcomed and offered the choice of sitting in the quiet lounge or more lively bar (we chose the bar), on requesting "beer" with our meal were given a thorough overview of the three real ales on tap (Elgoods) and a little taster to confirm our choice (there was also a selection of the common big brand fizzy stuff). I had a beautifully cooked 16 oz T-bone with traditional accompaniments, whilst my wife had a pie with a great choice of veg, all perfectly cooked and presented, and plentiful. There was a good menu selection plus a sizeable "specials" board. Well worth a visit if in the area or using the A47 to/from the coast.

we have used this pub several times, the first time we went to sample as we were looking for a venue for one of my son's wedding meal. We were very impressed with the service, food and atmosfer, between us we decided to let maggie, the landlady do our meal, She did the menu to suit the bride & grooms requests, as the day drew near we poped in several times with questions/ or changes, there was no problem she accomadated all our needs. when we arrived we had a very warm welcome, with some lovely hot nibbles. The dining room had been decorated, and table settings which looked lovely. the meal was served professionally, nothing to much trouble, we ask for a childs meal to be served early which was done straight away. All in all Maggie and team did a brilliant job, ( I think this was one of the first weddings she had done) we have been back 3 or 4 times since and food etc has always been good, on one occassion the steaks were not to our liking the meals were taken away and replace with a complete new meal, the steak were reported & returned to her local butcher suppler, We would highler recomenned this lovelly village pub which we have always found cl;ean and welcoming

We arrived here very late on a Friday night, hungry and hoping that we could get a meal. We were in luck.We live local but had never visited before as the previous landlords had not bee too great. We were warmly welcomed by the bar staff and met the landlady who was very pleasant indeed. They have a newly refurbished outside seating area. Please don't confuse this with the tables outside and to the left of the venue. This is the smoking area. The menu is typical pub grub and they do have specials available. What I like is that they use local produce and the quality of this shines through. The meat is excellent and is sourced from a butcher less than a mile away.I had the mixed grill and it was very good. All the meats were cooked how I asked and not just to one standard. The prices are reasonable, the ale is good and the kids were happy.Just what you want. My only criticism is that the plates are too small for the food they serve. Either larger plates or reduce the portion size.Since this review we have visited twice again. Sat outside once and inside once. Same service, same quality and the landlady was charming as ever.So there you have it. Three visits over a 2 month period, all very good.Passing through or local, its really worth a look.

Visited whilst on holiday. The food was absolutely delicious. So well cooked, not overcooked. We went with our two teenagers. They and my husband ordered starters of garlic mushrooms, crispy chicken goujons and crab cakes. The lady put them all on one plate so we could have a huge sharing platter. They were all lovely. Our mains were just as delicious if not better my husband had gammon, a huge steak of it. My daughter the lasagne. My son had one of the specials, chicken stuffed with cream cheese and asparagus wrapped in bacon in a supreme sauce. It was so moist and tender it melted in his mouth I had the ham, egg and child. The ham just fell apart you didn't need a knife. We all had the chocolate and pear fondant for desert but me and my daughter couldn't finish it so my son had ours too!We came back the next night and wished we'd tried the place earlier. I'm sure we would have eaten there every day. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and the premises were so clean and tastefully decorated. Will definitely go again if ever in the area again.

The pub from the outside looks very nice, however inside is another story. The place is well maintained but its full of young kids, roudy and loud!! The land lady is very abrupt and seems to busy doing other things than to deal with her customers. . Apparently there is a beer garden outside? ?? no signs anywhere to show this though. The food is good and the chef I would definitely recommend. .. but the staff and the land lady are just rude. I wouldn't recommend and we wont be back, shame really.

I visited this pub with my wife last night and We were enjoying ourselves, eating in the corner of the bar, and a gentleman with a baseball cap came in with a very young girl, he then proceeded to tell a very rude joke that not only offended my wife and I but even the young waiter standing behind the bar. The landlady then proceeded to tell the man to keep the language to himself with ladies and children present, the man then began to assume he was 'barred'. He eventually left, under the impression he was banned for life; but the landlady had not mentioned ban or barred at all throughout the entire discussion. However, I for one am so very pleased that a pub that was once a place full of trouble is now being managed so well by a very capable landlady. This pub is certainly rising again!

To be honest I've been a regular in the pub, there has been multiple lease holders, and the new land lady after several visits has been rude, and mostly concerned about the volume of money she is taking through the bar, the service is unexplainable and not even worth a visit! I'm not a picky person, I normally enter pubs with my family but I strongly suggest you avoid this pub!!!

Visited Café X mid-morning on 09/09/2020. Café have a good Covid-19 protection system in place whereby you order at the main entrance window, & your food is handed out another window. The lady who served us was also friendly and helpful. I order the SMALL breakfast, that as you can see on the menu is £7.00. Plastic cutlery. Coffee is disappointing Instant Coffee, although it is advertised as Instant. The toast had no flavour whatsoever and tasted like cheap nasty budget wholemeal bread. It really was rank. Possibly reheated. Not enough butter either. The egg wasn't runny, it looked like it had been flipped over or possibly even reheated, it was fairly tough. The bacon was unsmoked and although it was nice and thick, it was fairly fatty and tasted cheap quality / greasy. The hash brown and black pudding, yeah OK I guess, but I have had way better. Now, I could forgive all this if the price reflected the quality of the product. But it doesn't. Much too expensive for poor quality food. If this has cost me £4.00 I probably wouldn't quibble as the cost and quality would match somewhat. We won't be eating here again, we had slightly dicky stomachs afterwards too. It is a shame, as if you bought better quality produce, got a far better chef, kept the prices the same and made the presentation better, you would have a roaring repeat customer base given you are situated on the A47. But im sorry, as you are, it's far too disappointing.

This spot is great for meeting up with friends any time of the day. Breakfast runs into Brunch. Brunch runs into lunch and I've had afternoon tea which is a 10/10 experience. The service is always friendly and efficient. The menu is small but varied and covers all tastes and dietary requirements. Presentation is excellent. The atmosphere at The Potting Shed is very relaxed and friendly. It is dog friendly too.
