Red Lion in Fenland

Called on a day trip to Wisbech, selected based on previous reviews. Sadly no dog friendly area’s inside, but the patio at the back was nice. Food was great, fresh home cooked, generous portions & reasonably priced…particularly recommend the ham & eggs. Unfortunately the cask beer was poorly pulled & lifeless, nevertheless would recommend a visit

Popped in for Sunday lunch after visiting family in Wisbech. Rang at 14.30 and got a table for 15.00hrs. From the outside the pub doesn't look all that.. but its lovely inside with a cosy friendly atmosphere and very clean. Free glass of house wine with your Sunday dinner, so that was nice. Large portion sizes. Friendly service. Would return thank you.

I have to admit to being biassed. I live in Wisbech and have used the Red Lion, on and off, for over 50 years. Recently it changed hands and I was slightly worried that the new people wouldn't be as good as Maggie had been. I need not have worried! The staff were super polite, the menu was varied, prices were what I have come to expect for good pub food and service was courteous and efficient. I had the chicken, noodles and black bean sauce which was wonderfly flavoursome and hot. Portions were generous and my wife's omelette was good too. I had a couple of pints of Elgood's Cambridge bitter and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We are going back again this week, taking another couple with us. I do not know the family that is running it now but would like to thank them for a truly pleasant evening.

Have frequented the Red Lion several times before. Unfortunately on this occasion the visit was spoilt by the rude waiter. I can’t comment on my meal, I left it after a couple of mouthfuls.

We have visited this pub frequently and have eaten well however all that changed tonight and we won't be going back. 4 of us dined this evening. The starters were fine let me add, however it went downhill from there. The minted lamb chops were so spicy they were inedible and had to be sent back, the prawn curry was tasteless with clumps of rice and that was sent back. The ribeye was fatty thank goodness for the chips. 1 of us ate their meal. When it came to paying there was no offer of a reduction or a free drink which frankly is bad customer service we paid over £120 for 1 meal starters and drinks poor evening out and very costly we won't return.

Excellent, intelligent service in a pleasant and spotless environment. So why only 'average'? Becase we dropped in for Sunday lunch and I'm sorry but the food was airline standard. Roast potatoes and veg were fine but the meat was this cut and overdone. Smacked of a production line. Pity because I imagine if we'd ordered other dishes which were less 'mass produced' they'd have been much better. And sadly we were in the back room which was a bit sterile.

Friendly staff, good service , well prepared and tasty food all provided in a pub with a good atmosphere. Well done to all!

Popped in for lunch for the first time today. Don't be fooled by the exterior of the pub. The food was amazing, friendly staff and reasonably priced, would highly recommend.

Just moved to the area. Thought we would try the Red Lion for a roast dinner. Wow, the size of the portions were amazing. Compliments to the chef as the turkey I had was delicious and I even tried my husbands lamb - which was also delicious. Will definitely recommend and be going back.

Had Sunday lunch here today, it was lovely. Excellent portions, all homemade and really tasty. The service was excellent too, it was a spur of the moment decision to go and fortunately they had a table available, will definitely go again. Thank you ☺️

As visitors to Wisbech, we initially struggled to find traditional pub food. We then found the Red Lion and could not fault it. The bar area was busy, but the staff managed to find us a table. The food was top quality and the portions very large. Also a pleasant atmosphere and attentive staff. In fact it was so good that we returned again 2 days later. If you are in the area, give it a try.

Couldn’t fault the food…..absolutely delicious, Staff very friendly and helpful…. If I did have to find a fault…it would be the time taken to order our meal….must have been well over half an hour…but having said that…..worth waiting for???? Yes!

My husband and I called in for lunch on Friday 21st July. We are not regulars but were made to feel very welcome. The portion sizes , from a very varied menu , were extremely generous and very tasty. Would highly recommend to anyone in the vicinity.

Slightly away from the centre of town this pub is worth a visit to enjoy its huge and varied menu from sandwiches through to full meals. Good portions too
