The best restaurants serving British food in East Cambridgeshire East of England

Well I have been here several times and gradually become less impressed. This time my King Prawn soup main couse has only 3 prawns and my friends King Prawn green curry also had only 3 prawns . We had a starter and a beer each and the bill was £57 so feel that 6 prawns was a bit short of the mark.

Enjoyed our stay here. Nice dinner in pub on first night,friendly staff we had a pleasent stay. Will return in the future.

Spotted the sign for this on A11, just off the A14, what a little gem of a place! Just 3 minutes off the A11,much nicer than a service station! Friendly staff Lovely coffee and cake, good range of breakfast lunch and light bites too. Very clean loos too

Nothing beats having a nice classic chesse sandwich in the beautiful city of Ely, not far from the riverside! Visited with family. Always come here when i come to Ely

What a gem; this place is amazing as are the super staff. Beer drinkers heaven with well over 100 to chose from in bottles and cans plus some great draught beers. Come here every year around my birthday and never fail to be made very welcome. Heartily recommend paying this place a visit and its only 150m from Ely Cathedral.

Decided on entry to have a drink in the bar. Nobody turned up to take an order. The only misstep. The quality of the restaurant reflected the overall ethos of the hotel. The manager was attentive and helpful, the young staff were insistent on asking how the meal was progressing…better than not asking at all. Of the 4 courses we had, only one was below par, the mains were excellent, the recommended wine very good. All in all, a very good night out.

Friendly place to stay the night with an excellent range of drinks and food. Dog friendly as well.

Great friendly pub, food and beer good. Nice clean, dog friendly accommodation, would definitely go back again.

Superb fish and chips, clearly cooked in the proper dripping, taste as fantastic as the best chippie by the coast. I rate this as the best fish and chips I have had in cambridge and surrounding villages/towns.

On a warm Spring day I can think of no where better to go for lunch than The Old Fire Engine House. I hadn't been for many years, not living in the area, but I intended meeting two old and dear friends who were visiting, so Ely was the place. Still under the same ownership for 57 years, it was everything and more than I remembered. Light and airy, the tables spread nicely apart and art to purchase on all the walls.... Starters, Mains and Desserts just as good as ever, the service friendly and attentive. It's not all about stars and accolades, but excellent ingredients consistently prepared and cooked with expertise, it was a pure joy to return, I certainly won't leave it so long before my friends and I return.

Friendly staff and delicious food!

Got our order wrong at the till, which we discovered when the wrong food arrived at our table. Staff were rude, condescending and unhelpful. Tried to lay the blame on us. Was not properly resolved. Will not be visiting again. Suggest you get the staff to read your order back to you to make sure they didn’t get it wrong. Before you hand over any money. If they do get it wrong, they will blame you.

Food isn’t very tasty , ordered a burger which was tiny , was about half the size of a usual 1/4 . Chips are dry and tasteless Glasses for drinks are dirty We was overcharged by £4 too Won’t return
