Went here as part of a large group booking after a hike in the surrounding hills. Top class carvery, faultless. All veg was cooked perfectly, the roast potatoes were delicious and the carver (owner) was generous with the portions of succulent meat. Family run venue and the staff could not be more helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend and plan to return soon.

Absolutely fantastic little pub the Sunday Carvery was spot on plenty of choice but most of all a warm welcome from the staff seeing as in a group of 5 that hadn't booked they were brilliant and on the plus side the bill for 5 with drinks 70.00 pounds.😊😊

Stumbled on this place and went in for the Sunday carvery. Cant describe the good quality of the food, the taste and the huge portion sizes. Seeing the cheesecake being served to another table , we ordered. A huge portion came to each one of us. Didn't think we could eat another mouthful we continued. It was heavenly. The warm welcome made our day. Thankyou thankyou thankyou.

Completely shocked by what we just experienced?! Table booked for 1.30pm, not seated until 2pm (despite a completely empty restaurant area). The only reason we got our table was because we sat ourselves, otherwise we might still be waiting to be seated?! We ordered our food very promptly, but our Starters (2 bowls of Garlic Mushrooms & a bowl of Tomato Soup) didn't arrived until 2.40pm over an hour after our table was booked for. These Starters were finished by 2.50pm. Just before 3.30pm we walked out still leaving our Starter plates on the table which hadn't been cleared! No communication from the staff throughout our time at The Marquis; no apologies for any delays, checking we're ok, offer of more drinks, no bread on the table, especially with the delays? And tables not cleared?? Very poor and odd experience, and extremely disappointing! Originally handed dirty, gravy dripped menus, which was acknowledged by the staff, but still handed to us? Dirty menu included spelling mistakes. Staff also unaware what the Soup of the Day was or the Vegetarian option, despite these being the only choices not typed on the menu? Are these 2 choices hard to remember? The cutlery on the table was not even laid correctly. It was very clear they do not have Hospitality or Catering experience?! We are a large local family, with a long standing local business employing all local staff some living in Stetchworth. We have been going to The Marquis for our works Christmas Meal for years and had a fantastic meal by Kate. Due to the change in staff, we visited today to enquire about Christmas. For us, our 'non' meal was very disappointing, but for The Marquis of Granby a lot of revenue has been lost by today's experience. Very, very disappointing!

This is the first time I've left a pub without haven eaten due to it taking too long. We booked a table for 1.30 but the table wasn't ready till 2 (even though there were empty tables). We ordered promptly but starters didn't turn up till 2.40 and with no bread on the table we were now starving so ate these very quickly. Beer was good but if you are thinking of having food there plan for you to be there a while. We booked for lunch and arrived on time for 1:30pm It took 35mins to get us seated and that only happened because we got fed up of waiting and sat ourselves down. Finally we had our order taken but ended up waiting nearly 40mins for a bowl of soup and 2 portions of garlic mushrooms. At 3.25 with our starter plates still on our table we cancelled the meals and left. What a shame to see what this fantastic pub has turned into. Not only do we visit the pub for lunch but for the last several years we have had our company christmas meal for 15 of us there. The new staff need to pull their finger out before they loose the confidence of the locals. Not one person checked on us to see how our starters were. They were more concerned about looking after their friends on the table behind us. Well done for destroying the fantastic reputation the pub had when Kate ran it. If you dont know what your doing find out or give it up!

The Marquis of Granby provided 20 of us with a most approriate and delicious "morning tea"after a family member's funeral. It was all ready for us when we arrived, we were made most welcome, and everyone loved the food. There was no pressure on us to vacate the premises which was great as family were meeting up from far flung places such as Switzerland and Cornwall that day. Service and food first class. Lovely beef and parmesan sandwiches and salmon sandwiches, asparagus wraps to die for, cheese based wraps, delicious tiny scones, some with cream and jam, lovely light cake, serve yourself tea and coffee. Very friendly. Service couldn't be bettered.

Dropped in here for lunch at the end of a walk in the local area. First impressions were very good with pleasant staff, a range of 4 real ales on draught and a great menu at amazingly reasonable prices. The choice of sandwiches was good and priced at £5.50 which included chunky chips and a generous serving of salad. When it arrived the brown bread was stuffed with ham and salad; superb value and nicely presented. Looking around at other meals suggests the portions are large and you will certainly not go hungry. I will certainly be returning when walking in the area.

I called in for a pint and light lunch after a morning's country walking - luckily this had left me hungry. The welcome by staff was warm and friendly. The interior of the premises is clean, smart and tidy. Four different draught real ales were on offer in addition to all other usual beverages and the choice suited me well enough. The lunch food range was wider that offered by some other pubs with quite an attractive choice including many classic pub dishes. I chose a sausage, bacon, tomato and cheese baguette which was served with huge chunky chips (lovely) and a cool fresh dressed salad. The food was well presented and the baguette contents and chips were nice and hot. This was a substantial meal which I enjoyed enormously. I don't often walk in this area of Cambridgeshire / Suffolk but I am inclined to do so again, in which case another visit to the Marquis is a certainty. If only other pubs came up to this standard maybe they wouldn't go out of business. It was interesting to notice that some customers called in to collect take away meals.

Five of us (including some very picky ones) chose beef, lamb and salmon from the Sunday menu. Arrived promptly, piping hot. Not just the boring carvery type of food but lots of unexpected additional contents. No complaints. Not one. Conversation punctuated only with superlatives. Very good value and plentiful. A couple of us had previously 'discovered' this fine little pub for lunch snacks; on the basis of how homely the atmosphere, good the food and a friendly, open reception we booked for a small family Christmas get-together with in-laws (grandparents -to- 3yr-old and a 3-week newborn !).The sort of 'local' pub where any of the regulars might take a turn to help-out when staff are under pressure; really nice. We were actually impressed how a local Terrier was allocated his own stool at the bar !Just have to say, "Fantastic", not only was the quality of food great, but soooo plentiful that 'dad' who as an outdoor farming type, is rarely satisfied, could not finish his plate (a notable 'first'). Junior was well taken care of. First course was the size of a main elsewhere and we simply couldn't manage a sweet.Extremely well done Kate (landlord & chef); we will be back (from Lowestoft) !

We called in for some food on a very hot day after spending some time in Newmarket. What a great find!!! A full menu was offered along with a specials board. My partner opted for a sandwich with salad and chips, while I went for the cumberland sausages, mash, roasted peppers, bacon and onion gravy. The plates turned up in very good time, fully laden and piping hot. To say the food was delicious would be doing it a disservice, but two empty plates were evidence enough that we enjoyed what we had. The friendly welcome and cold drinks all helped with the pleasant experience, along with the surprisingly cheap bill at the end. When we are back in the area another visit will definitely be made, such was the first impression made.

Had a look at the menu and didn't want a main course so chose from the light bites, but checked first that they were larger than a 'starter' portion. I was assured they were. I ordered a Cheese Ploughman's. Well, what a Cheese Ploughman's! There was enough Stilton, Brie and Cheddar to feed the whole of Stetchworth! I'm not complaining in the least as it was a very good salad/ploughman's including a warm bread roll, celery and grapes. Excellent. The others had a Goat's Cheese dish and a Bacon and Banana on French Toast dish. Three very satisfied customers. Looking forward to visiting again after the upcoming reburishment. Had been told by friends that the new owners formally owned and created the success that was The Golden Boar Inn, in Freckenham. When they left in 2007, we were left in need of somewhere decent to eat. When we found out they were back in business we had to get over for one of their outstanding Sunday lunches!! The belly pork was a melt in your mouth wonder! We were left wanting more! Over generous portion sizes at an extremely reasonable price. Admittedly the surroundings aren't great yet, but if the Golden Boar and their new extension plans are anything to go by, this will be "must" visit location for food in the Suffolk area!!!! Had Christmas Dinner at the Marquis of Granby Sunday night and it was quite simply on of the best meals I've ever had in any eatery. The 'Granby' has had a chequered history over the years and has seen a number of landlords come and go, but the latest team are really making a go of it. Kate and her family seem to be in for the long haul and have plans to enlarge and separate the pub and restaurant areas and keep the Granby for the people of Stetchworth and surrounding towns and villages. Good luck to them!

Well, I’d give zero stars if I could. For what you get, you’re better off getting a microwave tv dinner which is so disappointing as we have been before and it was amazing!!! The menu is very dated, which I can see is part of the yesteryear charm, but the standard of ingredients and cooking is really poor for the price you pay. The starters had gristle and bone in them to an unreasonable level. The gravy with the beef was watery, the meat was chewy and the fish was overcooked to be too dry. I’m sure no one but forethought and planning are to blame, but the roast meat was served with boiled new potatoes as roast potatoes had run out by 7pm on a weekend. The waiter was a cheerful boy, but showed little flare for decent service, and took almost full plates back to the kitchen. No one asked how our meal was, and when we tried to speak to someone, they were all in the kitchen. I had hoped this was a random series of unfortunate events on a night without usual staff, but it appears a new normal having looked at other reviews. Such a shame for a historically lovely establishment with a beautiful location and lovely setting.

Our favorite pub in Ely. We have a lot of reasons to say this, number 1 is that it is the location of our first date. They are always kind, and caring. The service is great and the pub does offer our favorite cider, Aspall!
