Great pub for drinks and snacks

Had lovely time and meal was superb.

A lovely local pub set in the quiet village of Snailwell just outside Newmarket. They do a great Sunday lunch (booking essential) and always have a guest ale or two on tap, next to a roaring log fire. Run by the husband and wife team, Kevin and Penny, you are always guaranteed a warm welcome. They have a large garden out the back where they do summer BBQ and events, and dogs are all welcomed. (Their daughter runs a grooming service next to the pub!).

Very nice staff good food and nice atmosphere

This is the third christmas we have had our family Christmas meal at the George and Dragon. We initially chose the pub because of it central location for everyone to travel to. I cannot praise the owners and staff highly enough. Always a friendly welcome. The Christmas food was excellent and extremely good value for money. For starter I had soup followed by the traditional turkey meal and finished off with Christmas pudding. We were a large party comprising of adults and young children. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The food was served Promptly and no one was left waiting. Thank you again and we look forward to next years visit

A terrific country pub...great food and a warm welcome...log fire roaring on a cold winter lunchtime... couldn't ask for better and I will be back for sure.

The service was very nice, attentive and fast, I ordered a Sunday roast and unfortunately my meat was very chewy and had a horrible texture. My partner's sunday roast was ok, I guess I was just unlucky. The crispy squid was tasty and the dessert was my favourite thing, warm jam sponge with custard.

took the family here for sunday lunch. despite half the group turning up late we enjoyed a superb sunday lunch. fresh vegetables generous portion of meat nicesurroundings 6 empty plates says it all.all in all a good meal at a reasonable price.will definately be returning. p.denness

A great pub, good beer two real ales, a huge garden at the rear. They have even got a 10 year old tortoise in the garden.

Great family run pub really worth getting something to eat here as good menu the food is not poncey good portions well presented loved the George and dragon Burger staff are very friendly Dog friendly aswell I'm Teetotal but told the rhubarb cider was lovely 100%would go back for a great weekend CHEERS 🍻

My girlfriend and I called in at the George and Dragon for lunch on the way from Woking to Norwich as it had good reviews and is only a few minutes off the A14. The staff were welcoming the moment we came through the door and brought our drinks to the table. The lunch was excellent and really good value. I had the fish pie for £12.95 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll definitely call in again next time we visit our friends in Norfolk.

What a wonderful place. Had a surprise 70th party there for 24 people . The food and service was excellent. Thank you to all concerned.

Went on a Sunday, so food was limited to roasts, but these were very good value. Dog friendly and pleasant staff.

One of the worse meals I have had for a long time. I had vegetable lasagne , with no vegetables. Two layers I’d pasta with what tasted like a jar of tomatoes based sauce that had the occasional dice of red pepper, the whole dish was then covered with cheese. I have only given one star because the staff were pleasant and accommodated 7 of us without pre booking.

More than likely one of the best pubs around, the Sunday lunches are by far the best in the area for the price. A very warm welcome and the locals are friendly too. Fancy an old school pub where people talk to each other, have a laugh and a joke then this is the place to be. Just remember that if you sit nearest to the fire it’s your responsibility to put a log on now and again.

Not many pubs like this around anymore. Clearly full of locals which is great. We had a lovely, no nonsense home cooked delicious roast dinner and traditional pud’s and custard (sticky toffee pud & apple pie). Would definitely go again and can recommend.

What a delightful place. Owners extremely pleasant and friendly. A lovely welcome. Even being greeted by their dog. Great menu of no nonsense home cooked food. Very reasonably priced. Food was hot and well cooked. Dessert menu was equally as good. Sticky toffee pudding with custard was amazing. This is a definite go back again and again.

Wanted a good Sunday lunch with family and wasn’t disappointed staff friendly and accommodating wasn’t rushed at all the Sunday roast was plentiful and the desserts were all of good proportion in light of the high cost of living we were surprised at the overall cost a fair price for good quality food definitely visit again maybe bring the dogs next time…

Having celebrated both our daughter's christenings here recently we were looked after extremely well along with all our guests. The pub is very friendly and very spacious outside. Food was lovely fresh and plentiful and I would highly recommend for a celebration.

Great, friendly pub that welcome us with two bored kids & dog after a 2hr journey. They even got the kids a football & let them use the goal posts. Fantastic food, great pub garden. The kids loved their meals & the burgers were to die for. We will definitely be back

Has home style cooking, absolutely delicious. The stuff is very nice and they have a chimney in the bar area. The restaurant room has cool vibes with many different clocks all around

We ate here on a quiet mid week evening in October. We order the house burger, a chicken curry and two flatbread pizzas. The burger a huge tasted very good. The chicken curry was good, a simple dish and the two pizzas were very good also. The service was good, the bar man (owner??) friendly and chatty without being too much. A good country pub with good value pub grub. Recommended.

Best Pub in East Anglia, hands down! I was a regular when I lived in Snailwell 1989-95 and come back frequent, but not often enough!

Had Sunday roast with the family at the George and Dragon, it was absolutely amazing! The food was delicious, the potatoes were roasted perfectly, the beef was juicy and tasty, the gravy was just right, but nothing tops the welcoming and friendly owners and staff. I highly recommend it and will definitely go many more times. Thank you!

The George and Dragon is my go to place. I’ve visited several times and every single time I’m greeted with a smile, a welcoming atmosphere and the food here is spot on every time. I love this pub and would definitely recommend .

Amazing pub and super friendly owners. We stopped by for a Saturday lunchtime. We had chicken skewers and burgers - they were very nice and our son polished off his fish fingers and mash. The menu is very good nice variety and the ability to mix the childrens options was great for us. The garden is massive and our three year old had a great time playing. Lots of outdoor space. Super dog friendly - she got a drink before we did :o) ! We will be back.

Stopped off for a quick beer and ended up having a couple and some great food. Beer garden has plenty of space and the sun if you get it was lovely! Burger and chips and a lasagne with no complaints at all, plenty in the portion and friendly service. Well recommended to anybody passing! Very Dog Friendly, Jeff was off his lead in the beer garden and enjoyed playing with the natives!

We were in the way to Norfolk for a weekend away and needed a stop for food and a break from driving. I am glad we did as what a great pub we found. The owners we fantastic and the food was great. We are a family of four and a dog. Due to COVID restrictions we had to sit outside. This was not a problem as plenty of covered areas and the garden is completely secure so our dog could run around and enjoy himself too with the owners very friendly dog's. If passing again will definitely pop in again. Many thanks we all really enjoyed our visit

Found this pub online and it was a good find. Well organized with friendly staff. Beautiful big garden. We were allowed to let our dog off the lead and play ball at the end of the garden. Had delicious fish pie. Definitely be recommend this pub.

Fried chicken sandwich was very good, added bacon, and the veggies were fresh. No mealy tomatoes. Top notch onion rings too. Very spacious inside and out. No social Distancing worries.

Come here a lot now we've found it. Kids run round the garden, we drink well looked after beers. Very friendly. Telly in one bar, footy etc, and real eaty bar with reasonably priced menu, with tables etc outside in the summer and en suite pet grooming and tortoise called Squirt. Dogs welcome.

My family Two teenaged plus wife meet some friends for Sunday lunch. The starters were OK Between us we had Roast Beef, Turkey and Lamb Shank with roast potatoes, mash, peas, carrots and gravy. All portions were well sized, so much so only two of the party shared a dessert. (Chocolate brownie) The bar staff were friendly and the pub was clean. The male Toilets could do with modernising.

I came in at a Friday lunchtime without a booking. I had a delicious steak and ale pie with a huge portion of mash and plenty of gravy. Very friendly service , no queues, clean, I would definitely return if in this area again.

Haven’t been here fir a very long time, had my first Sunday lunch, had the roast turkey Nice but one thing the plates were not hot, the food started to go cold before we’d even got half way through the meal Will give it another try

First I have to say that the food was alright we were shown a sunday lunch menu and I had a turkey dinner and apple pie with ice cream for pudding. The food could have been slightly warmer and the carrots had only been frightened by the water and not cooked enough.and it was for the price a little light on the meat content.the biggest let down was the surroundings for a start there was nowhere to park and we ended up on a pavement . we were sent into the :conservatory:which was a plain boring grey painted unfinshed little room that had about as much ambience as a bus shelter.there were splodges of paint all over as if the repairs hadnt been finished. The chairs were a strange thing covered in plastic stringing and were most uncomfortable ,I noticed that some even had holes in them .The legs and fett on the tables were in need of a good clean they can only be described as filthy.I used the bathroom and not only was it a grim little room but the window areas were also filthy and when i turned on the tap i got sprayed from my waist to my feet.The place had no atmosphere and I may just as well sat in a bus shelter ate my meal and gone home ,it was not an experience at all. Despite all the reviews we were given I was dissappointed and shant' return.

Very well presented village pub just outside of Newmarket. Very friendly welcome and excellent menu. We chose the Pie of the day, Beef Lasagne and Sirloin steak. Each meal was hot and extremely tasty. The steak was mouthwatering.Afterwards we were given a very nice Farewell and please call again. I hope we do.Thank you George and Dragon.
