Unfortunately for us the food was bland, burnt toast and hard poached eggs. Over priced and poor quality. Been before, year or two ago and the food was lovely. Menu has changed and is now very basic and quite honestly over priced for what you get. Won’t visit again.

Firstly, the farm shop cashier staff, fantastic, friendly, had a chat, great experience. The cafe, staff cleaning tables were friendly, and welcoming, however, the cashier didn’t smile, gave the impression she didn’t want to be there.. came across as rude! The breakfast I had was delicious, good quality, well cooked, presentation good .. which I would expect for what it cost, the price wasn’t bad, however it did state on the menu, no swapping of items, which I can sort of understand, 1x sausage, 1x egg, bacon and toast, baked beans were included but I am allergic to them, so I asked for a tomato instead which after looking at the receipt cost over £2 for 1 tomato, they made money on keeping my beans, charging me an extra £2 for a tomato .. come on!!!!!! Not very good customer service!!!! I will not be going back ..

Over the years we have often popped into the cafe for coffee and cake, but having moved from the area we haven’t been for some time, La Hogue was a half way point for our holiday trip so was the obvious choice for a stopover with friends. The coffee and snacks were very nice but the visit was spoilt by the woman who served us at the till. No smile, no welcome and made us feel as if she really didn’t want to serve us. We asked for sugar and she snapped ‘It’s on the table’ (we were outside and there isn’t anything on the tables), I ordered tea but no milk was given, I waited but she had moved onto the next customer, when I asked for milk she sighed and filled a small jug and slammed it onto my tray. She was not a good ambassador for La Hogue! While we were sitting in the garden a lovely young lady came out and asked us if everything was alright with our visit, made a fuss of our dogs and had a short chat with us. She was absolutely lovely and her spending a few minutes with us made a world of difference.

We used to visit La Hogue regularly, so were extremely surprised by our lunch time treat the other day, ordered was the standard La Hogue breakfast and I had the Warm Chicken and Bacon salad . As they are now so busy it is like a conveyor belt of trays - that weren't particularly clean - shoved along the counter for the drinks that you take back to your table whilst you wait for your food. Tables around us were unkempt and the floor underneath the tables had been missed for cleaning...we really wanted to cancel our order and go - but persevered and the experience didn't get any better - the breakfast was not very hot and greasy with congealed beans that look like they had either been left under a hot light for a few days! or microwaved to within an inch of their life - inedible, cold toast and eggs gliding over the plate as they were so greasy. Mine was not much better - would of been nice if the bacon had been drained before being put on a salad and also if there was more bacon than fat - totally disgusting...the chicken was like wood - I can't even begin to describe how dry and solid it was - not what I would of expected from a "farm shop" very overprocessed and not a fresh product as I would of expected. Needless to say we won't be revisiting to eat and on the look out for our new breakfast and lunch hot spot in the area. Please La Hogue if you read this and take anything from this review - look within and tell yourselves - have we got to big to try and meet demand and do we need to step up and go back to old values - where we knew our customers and would have a little chat and make them feel welcomed.

An excellent dog friendly, stop off point en route to Norfolk. Panini were superb and the staff very welcoming and responsive. Only blot for me (but not enough to mark it down) was the historic explanation of the name on the blackboard behind the tills. Just a touch triumphalist and not too endearing to overseas visitors. Just my view but then I’m probably over sensitive. Otherwise, a terrific find !

I visited just before Christmas with my daughter. We were going to have a hearty breakfast to set us up for a walk at Wicken Fen. The cafe staff are friendly and they are coeliac friendly. However, we were both rather underwhelmed by the breakfast presentation. Yes, the breakfasts are listed and itemised, but sadly, they don't exactly fill the plate. If you are paying for a full breakfast, I'd have thought 2 eggs would be a good start. My gluten-free breakfast consisted of 1 egg, bacon, and beans, and gf toast. A flat white and 1 orange juice was over £6. I hear such good reports of the quality of the produce generally, but I won't be rushing there for breakfast again.

Very nicely presented, food good quality. But they have a no substitute policy, so if you want to swap something you have to pay for your second choice. This works out quite expensive. I can think of nowhere nearby with a similar policy, and have to admit it often makes this place a second choice..

Decided to visit what used to be an old favourite - to our regret. Lunch menu is now a lot smaller than it used to be, with just the basics such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes unless you’re there on Sunday which we were. We therefore went for the lamb Sunday lunch, expensive at nearly £18 each! The plate was covered in a runny gravy, the lamb was ‘pulled’ probably to hide how small the portion was they gave you, and the veg was steamed but not enough to soften the carrots. We had a dog with us and they gave us a seat in the covered conservatory, the seats were cheap outdoor seats that made it difficult to sit forward and eat your food. We also asked for water for the dog and were told the dog bowls were outside - they were bone dry. A high street cafe chain does a better welcome than here. There are plenty of places in the wider area that offer a better deal than here now, which is a shame as it used to be so good. Had a quick look round the shop and butchery whilst we were there to see the prices inflated compared to our normal shops and butchers, we won’t be returning.

Went there for a coffee and a chat and wanted to sit outside - not that surprising under the current situation. But this was obviously greatly frowned upon and we were not made very welcome at all. We were allowed to have a takeaway which we consumed outside - but the coffee was more like dish water. Then, again not unsurprisingly we had to go back through the whole queuing/check-in system to use the toilets. Their COVID regime is obviously all set up, and I must admit seemed quite thorough - provided you want to use inside - which is a bit contradictory - surely they should be encouraging use of outdoor space - but no.

Visited this little gem again this afternoon and was not disappointed. The farm shop has a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruit and cheeses to name some of the choices. Popped into the cafe to be greeted by a lovely member of staff and shown to our tables and enjoyed a coffee and slice of carrot and courgette cake which I believe is baked on the premises and which tasted delicious. One of reasons I am writing this review is to highlight the precautions that are taken to ensure your visit is as safe as possible, a staff member to greet you, hand gel available, all tables and chairs sanitised after each customer, one way entry and exit to name a few. We are in the vulnerable age group but feel completely as ease and comfortable! Thank you La Hogue.

I travel the length and breadth of this country for work and I have to say I try to find slightly out of the way places for breakfast rather than settle for your average services grub (appaling as usual) I stumbled across this gem and I have to say it is possibly the best breakfast I have ever had (a big well done to chefs, front of house, as well as management)It has become quite a struggle during the current global pandemic to find such rarities but by God La Hogue has surpassed all expectations. I have to say with the current climate, the set up here is fantastic in terms of social distancing, cleanliness and protection of customers. I read with some bemusement and interest the previous reviews regarding COVID related rules that this business is operating/following and wonder what type of imbecile expects water to be filled up from behind the counter from an unknown vessel during a global pandemic. The fact that the business has even thought of a suitable workaround to try and please all customers is admirable. Please guys, do try to remember, regardless of whether you are living in blissful ignorance of the impending threat of this pandemic, we are still amidst one of the biggest threats of our time. Try to respect your fellow customers and also the venues operating in these turbulent times. All in all 5 stars, excellent service, excellent food and as far as I can tell excellent anti covid procedures in place. Will be back again!

Amazing how one person can kill one’s enthusiasm for a regular watering-hole! However I was delighted with my visit for a late lunch. Queued only a few minutes on a fairly busy day. The lady managing the queue, registration etc was delightful, and totally on top of her game. We were seated promptly and nothing seemed too much trouble for anyone, just as it used to be and a sit should be! I was provided with an alternate chair as the one at the table wasn’t good for my back. The food was obviously freshly prepared to order as it came piping hot, and of the usual quality at La Hogue.I enjoyed the visit and look forward to my next, but most importantly a great big WELL DONE to the staff and everyone who has have organised the place so well.

Today, on a really hot day, after buying a lovely cake and coffee for myself and friends, i needed to get a top up of water for my bike ride home - i was told to use the outdoor tap that is usually connected to the garden hose that is being used to water their plants and probably animal feeding area - after strictly entering the premises with covid-19 restrictions, being told to hand sanitize and wait for ages and keep distances under these strict rules, which I get is the 'new normal', i am appalled that I was offered water from an outdoor tap as opposed to going back to the counter and getting water served from their main sink area and some ice- or even provide a jug of water for our table -which would have been more hygienic and nicer customer service. I was even more appalled at the customer service my party received who also needed some top up water and was told to ask me as i had just been to the outdoor tap - the staff member didn't offer to help my friend - this is like going to a restaurant and ordering food and then asking where the loo is and being told to ask your friend who's already been - very rude!! The staff member reminded me of an awkward gp receptionist and very authoritative -I felt like I walked into the wrong clinic - the social distance measures are not an excuse to treat people unkindly - in fact as we are all facing this situation - good manners and good service would be a blessing right now- and keeping a solid customer. I have been coming since 2012 and have brought lots of customers to this place. I may have to re-think!!

Lovely visit great to see all the new procedures in place to protect the customers. We felt really safe and watched everything being throughly sanitised before customers were seated. The desserts are amazing ...... WOW WOW WOW! We had the Toffee pecan Roulade and the Mars Bar cheesecake, both to die for but the Cheesecake was superb, apparently they are all made on site ...... I’m already planning another visit!! Plus the portions are huge!!!

Had breakfast here yesterday. Please read thoroughly, it's not all bad, just the bad outweighed the good this particular time. We arrived for our 9AM table, cafe wasn't ready to let us in before 9.15 A staff member insisted we use sanitiser (bactericidal - it doens't eradicate viruses) which we refused. They insisted and I refused again. 3 of the 4 of us have eczema on our hands, so we can't use it. Never eaten anywhere post-lockdown that insisted on customers using sanitiser, it has always been optional where it has been pointed out. I'm happy to wash my hands with a gentle soap, but who would eat without clean hands anyway? Give the customers some credit please. I was in Addenbrooke's A&E as well as on a ward overnight a few weeks ago and not once was I asked to use sanitiser. It's unnecessary to treat people like they're lepers.Table was sticky with sap due to the open side of the covered outdoor eating area. I expect this would not be the case on the 'wall side' of the covered area, but we were sitting next to the open side.Food arrived promptly and the waitress was very good and friendly - hash browns were excellent, as were the sausages, mushroom (although very stingy - 1 small mushroom!), and beans. The bread was good as well. The bacon was the saltiest bacon I have had in at least 20yrs. The egg yolk was absolutely tiny, it was comically small. The black pudding was absolutely terrible - really quite awful. I ordered an apple juice, which I thought was a nice cloudy natural one, but it turned out to be sickly sweet, even after I watered it down. This was a shame, because it's really not that hard ot make a good English breakfast and choose good drinks supplies. If most of the breakfast had've been as good as the sausages, it would have been excellent. We had a lovely conversation with another staff member in charge of watering the olive trees - she very friendly and genuinely interested in the customers. The playground is lovely. My kids thoroughly enjoyed it.Summary:It would be incredibly easy to make up for the things which I found to be very disappointing. It's really not that hard for all staff members to be friendly and treat customers with dignity and respect. We are not lepers. Please do not insist on the sanitiser - just make customers aware that it is available if they choose to use it. If you're going to charge £10 for a full English, I expect it to be good quality and in decent portions - the comically small egg yolk and the single mushroom were a joke, and that black pudding has GOT to go.

Went for lunch, for kids the sausages were good but chips very greasy. I had a burger, the bun was toasted so much it went rock hard, the burger was very dry and certainly wasn't premium quality. I've had far better burgers in weatherspoons for less money and a free drink. The cakes are overpriced (£5.50 a slice) I had lemon meringue pie, the slice I was served had fallen apart on the plate, the lemon curd was far too bitter, dried up and claggy. The coffee was good.

We have been eating at La Hogue over many years and the quality and service has always been maintained as they have changed and expanded. The food is great quality and reasonably priced with a fantastic selection. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's suitable for all ages and there's a nice outside play area for younger children. Cyclist friendly too with great scones!

Visited with a group of friends and I realise these are difficult circumstances to be working under but one of the members of staff was unnecessarily rude to many people which ruined the experience. All the others were doing a great job. Food was okay and service was prompt.

The cafe reopened today, 4th July, for the first time after Covid Lockdown. I was there at 9am for a delicious cooked breakfast! The staff have clearly been well-trained in the new procedures, and everything seems to have been well-thought-out. The staff were handling things in a friendly way, with good humour, and we had a very nice time. The breakfasts and the coffee were very nice. It was lovely to be able to go back there. The cakes looked great, but I was too stuffed to manage one today!

La Hogue is always busy - but the quality of the snacks make this inevitable. Perhaps a little on the pricy side, but there isn't much competition

The cooked breakfasts here are delicious. The sausage and bacon are very high quality, from their own butchers. The bread for the toast is excellent too, and the coffee is really nice. I always enjoy my food here.

We found this café by chance and how lucky we were!! We did find a table even though it was really busy. Can under stand why people book! The staff were really friendly and chatty. The food is ordered at the counter. Not a long wait for the food and when it arrived was not disappointed. Nice and hot, nicely presented and lots of it. Could not fault anything. We loved it so much we called in again for breakfast on our way home after our weekend away. Once again staff and food were great. Another visit is on our menu!!

We saw signs for this place and decided to give it a go. It was very good. My partner had a full English breakfast and I had poached eggs on toast. We could not fault the quality. Afterwards we had a look round the farm shop which looked very good . Glad we spotted the sign!

Travelling Hertfordshire to Norfolk for a few days, stopped for a butty breakfast. The sausage and bacon butty was more than ample and for what it was, not expensive. I think they work on the idea that people, (like me anyway), are happy to pay a little more for good quality. We enjoyed it so much, we had to go off route on the way back to visit again. Was worth the detour. Had a snack with some tea/coffee and then hit the farm shop. Excellent fresh vegetables, meats and cheese. Would highly recommend. When we went, plenty of parking right outside the shop, but also appears to be plenty of overspill car parking.

We decided to travel from Hertfordshire to sample the breakfast. Yes, the yummy breakfast is back. The service was excellent. The farm opens at 9.30am on a Sunday. We arrived early and were seated in the extension. The breakfast was delicious. We shall return in February with our 20% off voucher to have a brekkie and stay for dinner. We were very impressed with the range of homemade cakes on display. We bought two scones for mum and dad which were well received. This cafe gets very busy and you may need to book your seating.

What a gem; this place is amazing as are the super staff. Beer drinkers heaven with well over 100 to chose from in bottles and cans plus some great draught beers. Come here every year around my birthday and never fail to be made very welcome. Heartily recommend paying this place a visit and its only 150m from Ely Cathedral.

Excellent food and service from start to finish. This is very local to us, but still always a treat to go and enjoy. Regular specials in the menu and the coupon that own and run the restaurant are fabulous. Ingredients and standard of cooking is outstanding.
