The owner is miserable and it’s all he can do to grunt at you. One of the worst things is AT LEAST once a week (usually busy days like market day) his card machine is broken and it’s cash only. Course it is. £££. The food isn’t that bad to be fair, but when paying for stuff you expect to at least be welcomed and maybe even crack a smile. Avoid.

We popped in after a shopping trip to Ely. One of us had an omelette, the other a hamburger and we shared a generously sized portion of chips. The portion size of the hamburger was on the small side maybe, but perfect for the quick pit stop we needed. This is a good honest greasy spoon cafe with tasty food and excellent for its type. It was also a fair bit cheaper than the nearest equivalent to where we live.

Found the cafe very clean and the waitress was welcoming, friendly and cheerful. However, the small breakfast at a cost of £10 was a poor example of an English breakfast. Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

After a wander around the market we decided on eating out for a late breakfast. We'd not been in Street Cafe for a few years so thought we'd give it a try. The cafe itself was spotlessly clean. There was plenty of food on our plates and the tea was nice and hot. We would have given full marks but the staff just need to smile a bit. We know it was Sunday and a lovely summers' day but a welcoming smile makes all the difference.

We were looking for somewhere for a sandwich for lunch and stumbled across this cafe. We ordered a bacon baguette, sausage baguette and 2 cans of Diet Coke. At the price we were not expecting what we got! Lovely fresh bread, plenty of filling. All for £8.40! The service was also attentive but not in your face. Very pleasant , helpful staff. Would certainly go back and can readily recommend to anyone.

Never experienced such awesomePoached eggs. From the way the butter drenched toast was arranged “head to tail” on the plate to the way the eggy domes were reflecting the light with a glistening cellulite edged yet pitted sheen... Breaking into the domes like the forceful entry of a bank vault to reveal the inner sanctum of firm yolk, its a joy that is unrivalled and surely could secretly become one of the new culinary wonders of the modern age.

Unexpectedly in Ely on a Sunday morning at 09:30 and in need of breakfast. At first we walked past the cafe in search of something "better" in the mistaken belief it was another greasy spoon! On finding nothing else open we re-traced our steps and looked at the comprehensive menu. On entering the bright modern cafe we were greeted and offered a table by a delightful waitress. We ordered two cooked breakfast at a price that included tea and coffee. We waited only 5 minutes before the food arrived along with the drinks and toast. It was perfectly cooked and well presented. My wife who is Gluten Free had asked to swap items and that was not a problem. We paid less than £15 and that included a tip for our waitress so £10 saved over more pretentious breakfast venues and a lot of time too!

The food is fairly average, nice chips though. Breakfast is fine, although the sausages are the cheapest type you can get, and are bland, tasteless and contain fatty deposits and gristle. Everything else is fine, if uninspiring. Prices are higher than average in my experience, but that's possibly due to the location.

I visited this cafe with my parents and my children, as it was my dad's idea to drop in their for coffee and a cake I went along with it, I wouldn't have chosen to go in there normally as I don't like the look of the place. But the coffee was ok, a bit better than hospital vending machine coffee. The children had jam doughnuts, which turned up hot and had actually been microwaved. We weren't told about them being hot, so my daughter nearly scalded herself on the name when she went to bite the doughnut... Which also had a live flea stuck in the jam, on the plate!Obviously not wanting to cause a scene in front of my parents, I tried to find the manager to talk to him about it... There was no manager, but I was told that the doughnuts were frozen and had to be defrosted in the microwave for several minutes - and they said it as if I was the strange one for asking or not knowing! The manager then came into the shop and reiterated the doughnuts were frozen beforehand, wasn't nice about it and also treated me as if I was the strange one! After the flea had been found and my daughter was in tears from the hot jam burning her lip, nobody ate them and we were refused a refund.

Ely like most cities and large towns has its fair share of Costa's, Nero's and trendy cafes but if it's really cheap teas / coffees and light bites that you are after then look no further. The deli style food is half the price of elsewhere ..... that's correct £2 + for a massive (and I mean BIG) baguette with a wide variety of fillings. If you don't mind the authentic old time warp feel (which is kind of cool in a way) then try it out.

Streetcafe is an excellent choice for anyone coming into Ely who wants to stop for some wonderful, reasonably priced food ranging from Jacket Potatoes and Omelettes, up to the traditional Full English Breakfast - and believe me, the portion size here won't disappoint you. Run by a Turkish family for the last heaven only knows how long, with Steve at the helm, this place will leave you with a smile on your face, and no room in your stomach to eat anything else for some considerable time. Prices vary, with basic adult meals such as a Cheese Salad from around £4.10, up to the Full English (Breakfast B) which will set you back £7.60, but which does include your choice of drink, tea, coffee or a soft drink if you prefer. Kids meals are also available, but the range is a little limited, so if your child wants something a little more substantial, they'll happily accomodate doing a half portion of an adult meal to satisfy the larger side of the little appetite.Streetcafe can be very busy, especially on Thursdays and Saturdays, which are Ely's two market days, and you may have to wait a little while to get a seat, but once you get inside, your expectations will be greatly exceeded. Good food, extremely friendly staff, and an atmosphere of enjoyment are what will meet you here, so take a seat, take your pick, and fill up to your heart's content. One note though: Streetcafe does NOT accept any form of card payment - there are ATM machines nearby at Lloyds Bank and Barclays Bank, but you would be advised to go armed with cash!

Well, I’d give zero stars if I could. For what you get, you’re better off getting a microwave tv dinner which is so disappointing as we have been before and it was amazing!!! The menu is very dated, which I can see is part of the yesteryear charm, but the standard of ingredients and cooking is really poor for the price you pay. The starters had gristle and bone in them to an unreasonable level. The gravy with the beef was watery, the meat was chewy and the fish was overcooked to be too dry. I’m sure no one but forethought and planning are to blame, but the roast meat was served with boiled new potatoes as roast potatoes had run out by 7pm on a weekend. The waiter was a cheerful boy, but showed little flare for decent service, and took almost full plates back to the kitchen. No one asked how our meal was, and when we tried to speak to someone, they were all in the kitchen. I had hoped this was a random series of unfortunate events on a night without usual staff, but it appears a new normal having looked at other reviews. Such a shame for a historically lovely establishment with a beautiful location and lovely setting.

This pub has new owners and we thought we’d try the food there as the menu looked good. The night we went was pie night, so we both ordered beef in stout pies . Great chips and well cooked veggies, but what a fantastic pie, bursting with slow cooked beef in a great pastry. Looking forward to the next meal here.
