The best restaurants serving British food in Braintree East of England

Went here for mother's day I had the lasagna I've had worse but can't think when about the only food cooked ok was a burger most unapatising.tables were to close

Had a break when at Braintree Freeport. Service was friendly and efficient. Two pasties which we very much enjoyed. However the cauliflower bhajee pasty was luke warm and when probed had to be reheated but this was done with apology The coffee was not great. Small cups and it tasted burnt. I didn't expect my coffee to come from a basic machine. We would return to give it another go as small tweaks would make it much better. Price was reasonable.

Really good Sunday lunch and probably the best I have had in a restaurant. The beef was melt in the mouth and all of the trimmings were excellent with very generous portions. All veg beautifully cooked and the cauliflower cheese was really creamy and umptious. Extra pigs in blankets made with proper sausages and thick bacon, although a bit late, were worth it. Wholly recommend this place for the food and unpretentious atmosphere - plus great value for such a lovely restaurant. Will be back

We had our wedding at Prested Hall last month and it was PERFECT. Lauren and the team made the day run so smoothly. The venue was great, we had approx 100 guests, with the characterful building and different rooms for people to chat and eat created a buzzy atmosphere throughout. We had our ceremony in the orangery, a beautiful room and the outside grounds are stunning also. We were very lucky to have our wedding here and would highly recommend! Lovely staff unfortunately the room let us down. Shower did not work power button didn’t work . No hanging space mini fridge was not sufficient only held two small bottles of water. Breakfast was good long wait . Coffee not good very watery. Pots pf tea would be much nicer than cups . Breakfast was good let down with poached eggs.

Had another delivery from this restaurant - absolutely fabulous fish. Cooked to perfection! Would have been 5 star but chips not so great! Thank you so much!

I Along with my disabled wheelchair bound partner visited this premises last saturday(25th April). We had a couple of drinks and some food. I have no issues at all in regards this however the point of this review is to mention there is no disabled toilet in the premises and I was told that a wheelchair user would not be able to use the ladies toilet due to the narrow entrance. My partner asked about a disabled toilet and was bluntly told no. Why is this in any way acceptable? As a result of no disabled facilities i had to take my partner to a nearby supermarket however had this been later in the evening I'd have had to take my partner home. I find it totally unacceptable that in this day and age there are still places without disabled facilities. Surely as a public house/hotel that is there to service people then why are you discriminating against wheelchair users? Hopefully someone will address this and explain why disabled people are not considered welcome.

ather than partake in the hospital fayre Mum expressed a hankering for Fish and Chips.

My go to place on the island for Sunday lunch. Well cooked, reasonable price . Friendly staff. Nice cosy log fire .

Food was absolutely amazing. We both ordered the chicken breast in mascarpone sauce with baby potatoes, leek, pancetta, peas and asparagus.

I go to the Green Dragon from time to time and it never disappoints, it is always busy, but the staff make the time to be welcoming, it is probably best to make a reservation. I had fresh fish and it was superb and the portion was just the right size.

Just popped in tonight, excellent service but importantly, fantastic large cod and large chips. Absolutely amazing, been using this chippy for years and it’s just amazing the quality and service provided. Never beaten and thoughtfully recommended.

When we visited this pub before it was excellent but was midweek. This was a very busy Saturday We reserved a table which was there when we arrived , needed cleaned which was done quite half heartedly. Drinks took a while. Food a while too but it was ok as chatting and was a good atmosphere. Food was extremely disappointing. Burgers were just ok, were well done. We weren’t asked how we liked them. Fish burger was burnt as were the fries. Practically inedible. We really should have sent back but didn’t want to wait again. Had to keep finding someone to order more drinks which took ages to arrive. Definitely won’t be visiting again.

For a gourmet BLT sandwich and a steak sandwich with a beer and sweet potato fries I expect it to be enjoyable. The bread was borderline and hardly any fillings in them aswell as no butter on the borderline bread. Also no tomato inthe blt.The best part was sweet potato fries . To top it off it was £24. At this price I expect a good sandwich and wished I went tesco opposite. The small side salad was good tho. The beer was OK. won't be coming again and explains why we were the only 2 people in the pub.
