Great garden, lovely pub, amazing food; varied menu. We had blade of beef madras, duck leg cassoulet and our girls had a lovely ham sandwich.Very friendly staff; all table service. Great for families. Dog friendly. Nice selection of ales. Kids menu and high chair provided. We went for a lovely walk in Bolderwood Deer park and then here for lunch. Not to be missed; we shall be back! Thank you!

First time here after viewing the brilliant website, giving great info on ales, never seen this before anywhere. I was looking forward to visiting. We arrived at 3.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Car park was very busy, but spaces were available due to the size. Dave was at the bar serving, and although a little reserved, he was very polite and professional. He did struggle however, to find a dimpled handle. I requested a pint of Swordfish and a white wine spritzer for she who must be obeyed, both at a reasonable price. Disappointingly, the ale was too chilled to enjoy the flavour. Lauren (waitress) was doing the rounds, ensuring each tea light was lit. She was very sociable and friendly. Upon departure, she wished us a safe journey, which was a nice touch for a young lady ( unusual in my experience in these modern times ! ). All in all, a pleasant visit, albeit slightly marred by the ale temperature.

Unfortunately what could be a lovely forest pub is let down by the inexperienced staff. The food was lovely, but unfortunately was let down by the following issues - we turned up and asked for the ale flight which had been advertised on our website. When asked, the staff looked at us blankly and said they’d never heard of it. They looked at us in an accusatory manner as if we had made it up, and said we were the first people to ask for it. We showed them the offer that was proudly shown on the website and, again, said they didn’t know. Eventually the manager came over and gave us the ‘flight’ with no paddle and plonked them down on the table with little explanation. There appears to be a complete miscommunication between the brewery and the pub. - we ordered food and the starters came over but rather than the focaccia, they gave us the rarebit and said oh sorry there’s been a mixup on your order. Would you like to keep the rarebit or alternatively there is a 20 minute wait. We said we wanted the starter we had ordered and say this came out after everyone else has finished their starters with very little apology. - we weren’t asked if we wanted any other drinks until a long time after we finished our main meals meaning I spent most of the meal with a drink. I was very thirsty. - The waiting staff seemed very young and untrained and didn’t seem to know how to answer any of our questions. They didn’t seem bothered when there were clearly issues - we ordered another drink after our meal and my cider glass was covered in dirt and dust which was very off putting. If the above points could be addressed than this pub has great potential as food was very good and it is a very nice setting with a lovely pub garden. Unfortunately, it was let down by those points and we wouldn’t return until these points have been addressed.

Ended up here recently and had fabulous roast dinners. Booked to return today and again - sensational roast . However, we had chosen from an old menu with prices well below the current cost - not so good . (about £3 an item less) We asked for water and were brought a bottle of tap and 2 very greasy dirty glasses . I mentioned this and they were quickly replaced with 2 equally unappetising ones. We noticed that used bottles from vacated tables were being refilled and placed back in the fridge. Had to wonder how many times these had been reused without washing properly and how many hands had handled them🤢. Many, judging by the limescale built up in the bottle neck. Put us off drinking any water , very unappetising .

We came here for Dinner last week as we were staying nearby. It's a very pretty pub in the New Forest, plenty of parking and a nice outside area at the back to sit or eat outside. Donkeys in field out the back which were cute. Our food was really lovely, very tasty and reasonably priced for both food and drink. The lady who served us was so lovely, friendly and helpful as well. We will definitely return next time we visit the area. We would definitely recommend.

Stopped here for dinner - an excellent Pub in a very scenic area. The food was very good and was a reasonable price. The interior is everything you could wish from a British Pub, lots of character, clean and homey. We had the bad luck to hit a pothole and get a flat shortly after leaving, and walked back to the Pub where the Proprietor kindly allowed us to use his phone for the long and tedious task of dealing with our car rental agency. An excellent Pub with great food and great staff.

Very quiet for the middle of summer especially with the NEW FOREST SHOW in progress. Like so many New Forest pubs they lack atmosphere and you can't help but wonder if the odd quiz or form of entertainment would help!.

Met friends in the New Forest, booking here thanks to TA reviews and glad that we did. Very enjoyable on a very hot evening, Food of high standard, and acceptably priced, nice selection of beers and non-alcoholic drinks. The faggots on the daily specials were deemed to be excellent. Only slight criticism was that the Caesar salad was served on a hot bowl - this can only have been a mistake ! Friendly and attentive staff.

This review is based on my experience on the day and could be different for you, but I really doubt it. A much needed Revisit today 12/6/24 for a birthday dinner. All I am going to say is…. This my favourite Pub/restaurant in the New Forest and local area close to where I live. Every time I have been here the food, the beer, the service, the atmosphere, the cooking, even the parking, the owners, the building itself, you get my drift, is excellent, no complaints not one, oh maybe one, it’s all over far to quickly! You cannot blame the Owners for that. Food is really top draw and of an excellent quality, with large portions. A shout out to the chef who produces the same quality of food everytime. The beer is of excellent quality to, so don’t take the car unless your happy to drink soft drinks. The service is fantastic, you’re not hassled all the time. Don’t take my word for it, book a table and taste and try it for yourself you won’t be disappointed, if you can get a table booked. That gives you some idea of how busy it can get. But if they keep turning out quality food it’s no wonder it gets packed out. This is my 4th or 5th review of this pub/restaurant, as I believe in giving credit where credit is due and boy do they deserve it. Finally, many congratulations to the owners on the birth of their first child I believe.

Upon first impressions of this gastro-pub, I was very excited to see what it had to offer. A very traditional country pub, that looked great from the outside and very welcoming as I walked through the door. A bit of prior research online into the menu beforehand gave me a good idea of what I wanted to eat and prices appeared to be very reasonable. The menu itself was interesting in places, taking the good ol’ pub grub to another level without it becoming pretentious fine dining. To start, I’d chosen Thai style calamari, yellow pepper & ginger dipping sauce. Delivered to the table in 2 minutes of ordering, I was presented with a generous serving of what looked like deep fried baby octopus and squid, but could have easily been mistaken for popcorn chicken. The pieces were very small and clearly overcooked. The dipping sauce was interesting - sweet with a mild ginger kick to it. Sadly however, the bitterness of the overcooked batter coating just overwhelmed the dipping sauce and more importantly the natural flavour of the calamari itself. For a main course, I ordered Confit duck and spring onion hash, fried duck egg, chargrilled tenderstem broccoli, crispy shallots, watercress. For me that was a stand-out choice on the menu and I was really excited to be blown away by it. At £14.75, I thought it was a really good value dish. Sadly that’s where it ended… What was placed in front of me was of course a duck and spring onion hash, with boiled (or steamed) broccoli, not tenderstem, a fried duck egg (nice colour to it) but I didn’t see any crispy shallots or watercress. It looked reasonably appetising but very dry, although the egg to be fair was nicely runny. The hash itself was desperately under seasoned and dare I say it, bland. The concept sounded amazing, however the execution left much to be desired. The duck was supposed to be the feature but all I could taste was potato, leaving me very underwhelmed. The broccoli was nicely al dente, but crikey I writing this review with indigestion now!! For a dessert, I went for Coconut & biscoff cheesecake, mango sorbet. Again, a very interesting combination. Both very nice individually, but they really do not belong together. The cheesecake was rich and full of the biscoff sweetness, the sorbet was sharp yet smooth however I just feel that they would have been better off being offered separately. The service was great despite the two front of house staff clearly trying to do ten jobs at once. It looked like they needed an extra pair of hands. On the whole, it wasn’t a terrible experience by any means, however I can’t help but feel that the food just needed a little more care and attention. The two chefs who walked out at the end of the night looked tired and stressed, again probably needing another pair of hands (and eyes). Don’t take this as a slating, just deliver on what’s being promised and maybe simplify one or two things!

This is our second visit to this pub. I booked Sunday lunch by phone on Saturday and I was offered two slots to eat so chose 12.30. My husband and I arrived just before and were shown to our table. Within minutes, someone came and took our drinks order. We also ordered our choice of food. Our dinner arrived within 5 minutes. The service was outstanding and the food was so lovely and hot too. Pudding was just as good and we didn’t have to wait to pay. I would definitely recommend eating here, the staff are friendly and professional and the pub is cosy and clean.

Myself and my ex work colleagues have been coming to the Green Dragon every few months for years as a catch up venue. The food and staff have always been excellent. The beer is good being a Wadworth pub. I was in the pub a couple of weeks ago and, as I had booked a table for the 24th, I confirmed that their 20% discount was off all the main courses from the main menu and also the "specials" Our visit on the 24th with my wife and 5 friends was marred by a small dog in the main bar with its owner. It had a very annoying bark which was highly pitched and constant. Very annoying and the owner seemed oblivious to the discomfort being caused to other patrons. Eventually she left with the dog and then another dog in the bar started up. Very annoying| Phil, the owner, came over to take our order and I asked him if he could confirm again that the 20% discount for January applied to the main courses from the main menu and the specials menu. Phil confirmed that it did. Whem we received the bill for the food it was £98.95 and showed a discount only of £12.04 and not £19.79 which it should have been. When we questioned this we were told that it was the till that inputs the discount and that nothing could be done if it was wrong. So we, as a group, were left paying £7.75 more than we should. Very disappointing! To recap then. Still friendly staff, great food and lovely pub.

I have been to the Green Dragon many times and my family and I have always really enjoyed going. The staff, food and ambience of the place was second to none. May 2021 visit was totally a disaster. Was treated when first walked in "stand there, don't move and have you booked!" I'd booked previously 2 weeks before, asked for table for 5 with 2 small dogs by bay window, where we normally sit. Was told no problem. We arrived and was seated between the snug and main restaurant. I'd said that I'd booked 2 weeks earlier and that we had booked to sit in the bay window. I was told in no uncertain terms "as you can see that table seats only 4". The table we were shown was a bench with no cushioning and in a draught. We put in our order. My brother and uncle had soup for starters. 45 minutes later it finally came. My brother wanted something off the chalk board so (with his mask on) had a look for it. This man who was taking orders practically shooed him back to his seat and said "you can't just walk around you know" and gave him a chalk board menu. We chose our menu. 50 minutes later I asked a girl behind the bar if we has been forgotten. She looked into it for me. Half an hour later we were going to get up and leave when she asked us if we had our meal yet, I said no and we were thinking of leaving. Within 10 minutes we had our meal served. I think the person who served (may have been a manager) was extremely rude, the service was dreadful and the food was not up to it's standard. If the Green Dragon at Brook has changed hands, it's not doing a very good job. Don't think we'll bother going there again.

We arrived at 12.30 not booked but they were able to accommodate us on a large round table just aside of the large marquee heated area and we felt very safe. We had brought our new puppy and wanted to see how he was with a new surrounding all went well. Menu has been simplified but had a good choice of pub favourites like fish and chips and we went for a sharing platter there was plenty of food to enjoy along with some lovely fat crispy chips. As soon as you arrived you are asked to use the NHS app, all staff were masked up and there was plenty of hand sanitizers dotted around. Each table was clear before a box of accompaniments were delivered to your table. Order was taken with a hand held tablet and meal was very quick to come out to our table. A well organised establishment and we will visit again. Let’s hope we get plenty of sunshine so that we can enjoy this lovely place.Suggest you book as we were leaving we could see car park was filling up but they do have a large field so ample parking. Did notice that some people had brought their own picnic blankets and were sitting on them.

Real ale was cold and getting towards the end of its sell by date. Food portion was a bit small and looked like a budget pie from Iceland. Prices were high for what was delivered, but I do recognise they've had a helluva year and need to get cash in.My dinner was tepid and then nuclear on the inside, mash was smash so it seemed. Industrial microwaved but just a bit disappointing.Nothing 'wrong' per se but could have been so much better, if they'd made the pies in-house, same for mash potato and had decent beer, but the outside seating area was well organised with heater etc, covered, all covid safe. Staff were faultless.Just "meh" on the food. Come on green dragon! You could be GREAT!

Excellent service and dining in the pub but takeaway a little disappointing. This is a wonderful New Forest pub that is full of character with great beer and food. Unfortunately the take away burger and chips at £11.50 were not up to the same excellent standard as the food served in the pub.

Wanted a last minute meal before lock down, so we chose the Hatchet because we missed the atmosphere of this excellent pub. Always good food and ale served here.

I originally came here for a 70th birthday and vowed to return. A friend wanted to treat me and another friend to a birthday meal so I suggested here. The baked Camembert was heavenly and a huge portion with plenty of toast, I had the tasty chicken pie moist and delicious, my companions had scampi and sea bass .Only one of us managed dessert! Thoroughly enjoyable and great cider!

We were staying locally and booked a table for a late Sunday lunch. Friendly staff , well organised for Covid and fantastic roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The sticky toffee pudding was light and delicious and the fruit pie was fab too. We wanted to book for dinner the next day,as it was so good but unfortunately they’re not open on Mondays.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the New Forest for 3 nights early October. We were lucky to be only a 15 min walk away from this pub. What an absolute delight. We ate there on our first night and loved it so much we returned on out last night. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. The choice of drinks is good, service was faultless and the quality of food was very good. Even vegan choices for me. The atmosphere is really warm and welcoming. We got chatting to the landlady Freya and was made to feel so welcome. When we next return to the New Forest ( and we will because we LOVED it), we will make sure to return to The Green Dragon regardless of where we stay. Such a wonderful pub with great food and lovely staff. 10/10.

Warm and pleasant service. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Delicious home made celeriac and carrot soup, chickpea and lentil burger, served piping hot, followed by a scoop of New Forest vanilla ice cream with superb coffee. I highly recommend The Green Dragon and will make another booking!

went for lunch & 2 of us had the trad fish n chips ( small platter size ) at £8.50 received a very small piece of cod ( about the size of 2 fish fingers ) 11 chips & some crushed peas. fish was very greasy & we left most of the batter. Why have English pubs become so disappointing when it comes to the food. Just give a little more value & care.

Came to this pub as it was recommended to us by the bartender at the Royal Oak in Fritham. Great recommendation, food was lovely. Hubby had the fish & Chips, the batter was amazing. Very dog friendly, staff great. Loved the fact we could use the app to order all our drinks & food. The app worked really well.

My husband booked to stay in the pub yurt for the night and reserved a table. It was very unfortunate that our motorbike broke down at Beaulieu and we had to call the RAC. I called and spoke with Phill the land lord and explained the situation and he and his team tried to suggest and help us out we were stranded, with a possibility of not being picked up until 12 midnight. I called Phill back and advised to which he suggested we return on another night. Our nights stay started to look distant and I became quite upset espically as the night was slipping away from us. Then our knights in shinning armour came to our rescue Barry and Bobette called their daughter and arranged to bring their horse box down so that we could put our motorbike in the back to get to the pub. I called Phill back and explained. We arrived at the pub to the best welcome from the staff, Phill had also spoken to the chef and asked them to stay on of which I hassen to add the steak was cooked to perfection the drinks flowed, the staff were amazing and the yurt was beautiful. We will definitely be coming back we cannot thank Phill Freya and his staff enough.

We took both of our mothers to eat at The Green Dragon, two of the fussiest eaters you'll ever come across, always wanting one vegetable instead of another and all kinds of variations to the printed menu. Nothing was too much trouble for the gentleman who served us though. He accommodated every request made of him, and always with a happy smile, even though I was grimacing with embarrassment! They go out of their way to provide friendly welcome and excellent service, and it was very much appreciated. The food was good, wholesome and tasty too. Thank you!

We recently visited the Green Dragon for some lunch, the staff were nice and friendly and there were lots of reassuring measures in place regarding COVID-19. We ordered the chickpea and cauliflower burger which sadly tasted disgusting and overbearingly of overcooked cauliflower(wouldn’t recommend) and could only manage to eat the chips - it was also quite overpriced at £10.95 each. There also seemed to be a bad insect problem with flies landing on our food and several wasps around - overall the staff seemed nice however we will not be coming back; perhaps they could add some more vegetarian and vegan options to their menu

We have visited the Green Dragon 3 times since they have opened and every time we have felt safe. My husband has not been out since March and I needed re-assurance that all Covid procedures where taking place. I booked via the Wadworth app which was very easy.On arrival you enter via the fronty plenty of hand sanitiser it’s everywhere. We were then taken to our table all the staff had face masks and there is no clutter on the table it’s clean. We ordered fish and chips and a burger portion size was good and it was only £10 and this was on a Thursday we thought the quality of food and price good value. I noticed that when people left their table it was sanitised and left no one sat on it so please be patient if you do have to wait as Freya and Phill are certainly thinking of your safety at all times. My husband went to the loo and it’s one in one out so he felt safe again loads of hand sanitiser for you to use. 3 times we have visited to for dinner once with grand children and they ate all their food so that said something and we popped in and had a sandwich and that was fresh. One thing I should mention which I was very pleased to hear as I was right by the door was customers being asked their contact details before they came in the pub so again very impressed. If you want to go out and feel safe, have a great meal at a good price especially eating in the New Forest then go to the Green Dragon you won’t be disappointed.

We booked a lunchtime meal midweek with our dog and when we arrived we were shown to an allocated dog friendly area of the bar by i presume the manager who was wearing a facemask. It was a hot day and rather than ask us if we wanted to order some drinks immediately/ or some cold water, we were left with the menu's and advised it was table service only. After 20 x minutes the manager returned to our table and we ordered our drinks and food. The drinks followed soon after but the food took another 40 x minutes. it would have been good to have been informed about the delays. We also were a bit uncomfortable with the arrival of a couple who were asked to occupy a small fire side table no more than 1 - 2ft awy from my wife. This is not social distancing at all and the manager would do well to remove this two person table immediately. The food was good - but overall the wine was expensive some £7-65ish! for a large glass of pino denting the savings to be made from the 'eat out to help out.'

I will start this long and concise review by stating I've been in the hospitality industry. We came here pre booked as a table of 9, including 3 children at 3 pm on a Sunday. This was for my mother in laws birthday. Now the reason I say this time is because by now the kitchen had run out of several key components of their roasts and other main menu items such as beef and mashed potatoes. This considering the place was completely dead at this time. Why is the kind of chef that can not ensure they have ordered in and prepared these items that are vital components should wander down to McDonald's where someone with more experience will handle that for you whilst you're flipping burgers. Most of the remaining menu items are just thrust into the microwave or deep-fried without soul or care. Our starters took a full 50 minutes to be served, we had enquired earlier why it was taking so long as the kitchen had no other orders to prepare and was informed they were just being plated up. Still took another 20 minutes to produce these 5 starters! I'd chosen the salt and pepper squid that contained neither salt nor pepper! Bland would be an understatement. The rest of the meal was no less a long awaiting for poorly presented mess. It's clear the chef has no passion for food, and I'm certain wears a plaster on his microwave finger from overuse. The food was bland, overcooked, and under prepaired. The lamb Shank looked as if half the meat was missing, the hunters chicken was overcooked and dried out, and the beef bourguignon had no red wine, making it a tiny piece of beef stew. The list of disappointed meals went on. I can honestly say this is the single most disappointing meal I've had the misfortune of being served (eventually). I will not return and would recommend others avoid.

Covid safe and clean. Was a pleasant day so could sit on their outside patio area. Had a bacon sandwich, friends had cake. Bread was dry and I wish places would use proper butter, not some spread. Even with bacon you could still taste it... Service very friendly and pleasant.
