Living locally it is a pleasure to have the Bertie on our doorstep.. fantastic village pub serving a selection of local ales and good wines with a constantly changing guest ales....the best bit of the pub for me now the standard of the seasonal menus.... Fantastic restaurant quality food in a proper pub setting is a very rare find indeed... certainly worth a visit anytime, and they welcome dogs with open arms

Luckily, we ordered our Sunday lunch a couple of days ago when the table was booked. It's a very popular pub for food so you need to plan ahead or you could be a little disappointed as they sell out very quickly. Food, as always, was very good staff very friendly, we will use again.

We visited in order to celebrate my daughter's engagement - we chose this venue as it was half way between us in terms of travelling time, and we were not disappointed. We had to wait for two of our party, but the staff were quite flexible about this. The menu was extensive, and there were clear plates all round at the end - and all for a very reasonable price. Would definitely visit again!

What a pleasant change to go into a pub and not be met with neon lights, loud background music and the usual modern refit. This is a traditional country pub, with lit open fire, oak walls and a decor that reminded me of how pubs used to be. The welcome was warm, both by the staff and a couple of obvious regulars at the bar and we took our seats in the bar area seating (there is a restaurant area as well). I ordered sausage & mash and my partner the steak and ale pie. Both hot, tasty and homemade in its style and large helpings. We both also had puddings, apple crumble and sticky toffee between us and both dishes with lots of lovely custard. With 2 drinks, total bill was just over £40. Great value. Good honest and hot pub lunch and a good price. Well done all. We will be back

We've been here a couple of times before and it's been great, however our latest visit was not a great experience. Portions were small, presentation wasn't anything special, looked like meals I could of in nocked up myself as a quick tea at home, nothing special at all, certainly didn't look like a restaurant dining experience. Also, never come across a restaurant that stipulates on the menu if you want steak they need 48 hours notice! And even if they do, they should tell people when they book in as we had 2 of our party very disappointed on the night. The whole dining experience was also ruined by a group of loud, drunk locals sitting in the dining area and talking and swearing at the top of their voices so we couldn't even hear ourselves having a conversation. If people have paid for a dining experience no matter how bad that was, they should not have to put up with a table full of loud, swearing locals who were just there for the drink, keep the two things separate! Really dark and dingy in the restaurant, we struggled to read the menu due to how badly lit it was. The waitress started the evening by telling us what wasn't available off the menu, which in itself seemed odd at the beginning of the weekend to of already run out of so much. Needless to say this one bad experience overshadows previous good ones, it looks like the place has gone down hill, we won't be back! Must say though this is by no means a reflection of the staff they were lovely, it's on the owners!
