Living locally it is a pleasure to have the Bertie on our doorstep.. fantastic village pub serving a selection of local ales and good wines with a constantly changing guest ales....the best bit of the pub for me now the standard of the seasonal menus.... Fantastic restaurant quality food in a proper pub setting is a very rare find indeed... certainly worth a visit anytime, and they welcome dogs with open arms

Tuesday 12.30.August 29 th.Very poor service. Ordered drinks and paid at bar Took menus outside, after 20 minutes wait,my husband went inside to give our order. Was told someone would come to take our order at the table. After another 15 minutes a young lady waitress came out. We asked to order our food and she said she wasn’t on orders today. Another 15 minutes,no one came so we left. In the meantime two parties of 4 arrived, were quoted 45 minute wait so all left. Such a shame ,a lovely venue but lucky they can afford to let prospective diners leave without eating there. I wonder if the manager was in today to oversee his staff? A very disappointing experience. We won’t be returning.

Arrived at 1 o'clock, beer garden had plenty of space so we took a seat. Went in to get a menu, the man behind the bar gave a menu to the person in front of us but looked horrified when we asked for one. We were then told by a female member of staff that they weren't serving food anymore. Back in the beer garden a waitress was taking orders from several tables that had arrived after us. Not very welcoming, first & last time of visiting this pub. Shame that zero stars are not an option

Went out for a family lunch and was not disappointed in the slightest! I'd been looking for somewhere that offered gluten free food and the Bertie Arms menu doesn't disappoint. I will say though, go with an appetite, the portions are generous! Both my mum & I had the Bertie burger (one gluten free) and hubby & my dad had the fish and chips. Absolutely divine! The batter on the fish and onion rings is light and crispy AND gluten free. The burger is solid meat and the apple slaw is lush. The chocolate trio I had for dessert literally speaks for itself - warm chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate salted caramel ice cream and a chocolate cup with crushed honeycomb sprinkled over it. The service was second to none and the staff were super friendly and very cheery. We'll definitely be back again!

We live in Cheshire. This was our third year in the area and we had to return to The Bertie Arms for their amazing Sunday lunch. This is a beautiful pub in a lovely setting just outside Stamford. The main part of the pub is thatched and the inside is tastefully decorated with cosy corners. A lovely seating area outside. We had a late afternoon booking as they were very busy and rightly so. The staff are very efficient and our lunch promptly arrived. Beautifully cooked roast beef. Lots of it. A big Yorkshire pudding. Roast potatoes . A separate dish with fresh seasonable vegetables and a jug of tasty gravy. We had no room for a starter of pudding but looking around at our fellow diners everything looked delicious and returning plates were empty. We nearly succumbed to the plum and apple crumble with custard. It looked yummy. We called in yesterday for a drink after our days travels and had a lovely chat with the lady behind the bar who was very helpful advising about local places to visit. We will be back next year. A long way to travel for a Sunday lunch but incorporate it with a weeks holiday in the area snd you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you visit the Bertie. It’s a gem.

What a shame one young girl lets the rest of the staff down ! On entering the pub we found her very rude and unfriendly. For an establishment that prides itself on a friendly welcome and treating you as a local, that was far from how we were treated by her . My grandchildren were with us and that was obviously an issue . Several times during our visit she made us feel very uncomfortable. She needs some serious work on her customer service skills , they seem to be non existent. Certainly not the best choice for front of house ! I would like to add the rest of the staff were very polite and friendly

Very disappointed to be told when we went to the Bertie Arms last night to celebrate my wife's birthday that they charge a fee of £2.50 per head for taking your own birthday cake and asking them to bring it out to you!!! This is waivered if you buy a dessert however. I have never been charged anywhere before and thought this really is a very greedy attitude. We will not be eating there again and sadly will also not be visiting there this year for our work's Christmas party. It is such a shame as it is a delightful pub otherwise and the food was nice but just too greedy.

The drinks selection was good. The service was friendly, although I didn’t like the way the owner (I assume) spoke to staff. The food was average but disappointing. I had the Cromer crab crumpets, which I ordered with slight reservation. I was hoping for sweet fresh Cromer crab and instead it was dominated by the Katsu sauce. I didn’t finish my gazpacho soup because it was overly vinegary. My wife’s pea ravioli barely tasted of pea and was swimming in oil. If it was a bit of pub grub I was expecting then fine but I had heard good things and was disappointed. When I paid I was not asked how my meal was, again looked like the owner. My wife was asked by the waitress who was polite and apologetic. The food was average but over complicated and didn’t let the natural ingredients advertised on the menu shine through.

Went for a birthday meal for one of our party members. The food was very hit and miss. Some meals were lovely like the pie, it was steak and ale when we went which was lovely. The dessert we had was amazing! However the burger was a complete waste of money. It was dry as there was literally just meat and bread. The pulled pork was just that with no sauce. I had to add a lot of mayonnaise to eat it. It needed some Lettuce, tomato and some sort of sauce. The only thing I enjoyed about my meal was the apple slow, which is sad as it was quite an expensive burger.

Love this place, bit sadly disappointed today. Went to celebrate a 77th birthday, I chose beef curry, the curry sauce was very good, but the steak on top was mostly inedible, very tough. The sea bass was very good, but very small. We shared a very good cheeseboard. When the bill came we queried why half a pint of beer was £3.10 and a pint was £5.80, we were told it was because because of the extra washing up, waiting staff were very good but the lady in charge was rather rude, have always enjoyed this place but will think twice before going back

We arrived a few minutes before our booking time, staff very busy and told to find our table in the restaurant area. No sooner had we sat down when a young chap came up and asked if we would like to order drinks. Efficient and accommodating. We ordered our food four mains, after a while the meals arrived all seemed good, however one of the party had ordered the ‘Chefs Pie of the Day’. It arrived sitting on a bed of mash with veg and a moat of very weak runny gravy. The pie casing was very soft and soggy as if it had been microwaved! Not a crispy pastry one would’ve expected. The amount of gravy on the plate created a challenge as it splashed over and onto one of our party. Taste of the pie was disappointing as you couldn’t tell if it was Mutton as described or otherwise. Apart from this the other members meals were of a high standard and enjoyed. As this was a special birthday get together one poor meal out of four reflects the score given. If everything had been to the same high standard of three of the meals and desserts then the score may have been different.

Having just returned from a family lunch at the Bertie Arms in Uffington I feel compelled to report on my experience there today. To put this into perspective we meet there roughly on a quarterly basis and this is the first occasion I have felt the need to report in a negative way. Today I chose a dish of Sea Bass served with mushrooms, baby potatoes and some greens with a wild garlic pesto. Whilst the fish was absolutely delicious everything else was so drenched in the garlic after about a third of the way through my meal I felt I simply couldn't take any more garlic - and I really do not dislike garlic! We had been served by an older lady with an efficient and somewhat brusque manner who, when I explained that I found the dish too garlicy, rather inferred that it was my fault for choosing it because it contained wild garlic! (How was I to know it contained such an abundance of the ingredient?) Her demeanour was such that she clearly would not welcome any further discussion of the matter! No gesture was made by way of consolation. I certainly did not expect to receive my food for free but taking the cost of one of our drinks off the bill might have been appropriate, perhaps? Suffice to say, our next family gathering will not be at the Bertie Arms!

Our order was brought out , and we were not disappointed, i had the steak & ale pie , it was beautifully presented , and was special , we all had various meals , and were very impressed, down to the young waitress , she was lovely , we had a great time , and will certainly be back !

Great find! My Wife and I had an excellent lunch at the Bertie Arms . Thank to all the staff for an enjoyable time some times it pays to take the wrong route when you come across a nice pub like this one

It’s a lovely little place atmosphere wise, my family have always been continued customers and have always enjoyed the food historically however this weekend we had a meal here and was very underwhelmed. The starter was okay, I had the garlic prawns and my partner had the chilli beef. I ordered the fish and chips for main and the fish was overcooked and tasted a bit odd and the batter very sloppy. I was looking forward to trying the triple cooked chips and unfortunately they again felt like they had been left on the side for too long. No crisp to them. Quite stale consistency. I ended up not eating the meal. My partner had the burger and he said it was ok. When it came to the bill we were overcharged by over £30, the staff were very friendly and polite and sorted it out however it’s a shame the food didn’t meet expectations as we most likely wouldn’t go back now. Unfortunately not worth the pricing.

It was a curry night, which is the first Friday of each month, which we didn't know until we got there...and we were a bit disappointed at first. But no need to be. The atmosphere was great, the staff were wonderful and the food was fantastic. It wasn't your basic curry at all. Amazing starters and mains. Plus my wife is a coeliac, and the GF options. were fantastic. The beer was great too. We had a wonderful evening

A fabulous lunch today. The food was excellent as was the service. I have read all the poor reviews - Definitely can't be the Bertie Arms, Uffington - and I really think those writing them should stick to going for a meal at Wetherspoons.

Nice looking, good atmosphere and while we only went there for an afternoon drink, it looked very family friendly with lots of space.

Great pub/venue. Often, have live acts on at night at weekends. Didn't have any food, but what other people had looked and smelled amazing. Definitely need to try some next time I'm in there. Staff are friendly. Drinks are a bit more expensive than the wetherspoons across the road, but wetherspoons are barely beaten for price, are they? Definitely be back again.

We visited in order to celebrate my daughter's engagement - we chose this venue as it was half way between us in terms of travelling time, and we were not disappointed. We had to wait for two of our party, but the staff were quite flexible about this. The menu was extensive, and there were clear plates all round at the end - and all for a very reasonable price. Would definitely visit again!
