The Mucky Duck is very local to us, however, this is our first visit in several years, since the change of management/ownership and the renovations. Absolutely delighted with everything. Upon arrival, greeted by a lady (very tall blonde, sorry, I'm rubbish with names) and offered drinks in the bar. She was lovely, really chatty, impeccably presented and gave us all a warm welcome. The manager then brought menus over (again, lovely lady) and we were shortly shown to our table is the beautiful dining/main restaurant. All very relaxed, no rushing to get us through. Food arrived in perfect time, I had the Lamb which was literally perfection, others in the group had the fish and chips and the Bacon steak. All the food was hot, delicious, plentiful and beautifully presented. Three meals, couple of drinks each (I'm teetotal so went with the Moriarty's non-alcholic, some wine and cokes) all came in at under £75 which, given the setting, the beautiful views over the Idle Valley with the sun setting, the quality and quantity of food, together with the service, was very reasonable in my opinion. It's just a very pleasant, relaxed place to enjoy an evening meal. Will definitely become a regular place for us to have dinner in future.

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

Decided to have breakfast here this morning, it was quaint and picturesque... so thought would be lovely, pot of tea ordered by my husband and 2 sausage and egg cobs, ... when they came we were terribly dissatisfied, one sausage that was too small for the bread and the egg it was more like having a fried egg sandwich, the egg was an extra 75p which is OK I guess but £4.35 for one sausage 1 egg in a breadcake did not feel like good value for money. Can get a dozen sausage for less than that. Queried the waitress and she just said that's how we do it 🤨 not sorry about your disappointment or anything, seamed a little rude a response if you ask me. Safe to say we won't be returning.

What a hidden gem !!! Never been here before but my son and I went along for lunch and had a fantastic meal . Attentive staff and the waitress that served us paid my son a compliment about his manners which made my day proud dad moment . I had the mega breakfast and it was cooked to perfection with lovely fluffy poached eggs and decent beans (not cheap catering beans ) spot on blank pudding sausage and bacon and crispy hash browns , no grease on the plate to be found , I was really impressed

I always try to be accurate and fair with my reviews. I will give credit where credit is due, but if somewhere falls short I will try to be constructive in order that improvement can be made. It's been several years since I last visited this cafe. I had a good gourmet to fill before an optician's appointment, so thought I'd give it a try again from my usual place of choice. I asked a younger member of staff whether it was counter or waitress service and was informed it was the latter and to take a seat. I chose to sit at one of the tables for 2, which were beside the window, so that I wasn't taking up a table for 4. The only one available had a couple of mugs left by previous customers. I sat and waited, watching things being brought to other tables. A couple arrtived during this time and sat at a table for 4 next to mine. I continued to wait, at least another five minutes. Eventually, a more mature waitress approached, but went immediately to take an order from the couple next to me. I said "Excuse me, but I was here well before these customers and haven't been served yet." The curt reply was, "Well you're sat at a table that hasn't been cleared." No apology, just an accusatory tone. My reply: "Perhaps you should be more efficient in clearing your tables. I will now go somewhere else, thank you." A number of lessons for this establishment to take on board: 1. When a customer enquires what the ordering procedure is, make it clear that they shouldn't site at a table that still has anything on it. 2. Don't be defensive, and act courteously when something that is perfectly reasonable is pointed out to you. It won't be several more years vefore my next visit. It will never happen at all.

Stayed here for a couple of nights when we visited the Lancaster Experience nearby. Fantastic atmosphere, Christine, your host was welcoming and really friendly, the rooms were lovely and well equipped with everything you could wish for. The food was excellent and of high end restaurant quality. There is a beautiful garden and easy parking, it was pleasant to sit out during the evening and have a drink, so quiet and peaceful. This is not the usual pub, it functions mainly as a hotel and as a result there are usually only guests about and it's lovely and peaceful.

Found this place by chance on a day out to Buxton. What a lovely little place. The service was great and the food was lovely. It’s a quirky little place with a shop at the front, and where you eat is tucked away to the side and you’re surrounded by antiques for sale. The menu is quite limited, but plenty for a lunch stop. We both had homemade soups, two different flavours and both were lovely. The coffee was seriously good, and I tried a Buxton Pudding with homemade custard - yummy!!! Lovely music playing and the ladies who served us were really friendly, feels like a special little place. Highly recommended.

Nice little cafe with friendly staff. Food is very simple but perhaps a little overpriced. They do however need to invest in a proper coffee machine. Tassimo coffee is not really acceptable - there are plenty of cafes in Stamford serving real coffee, and I am sure that they miss out on trade because of this.
