I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

We booked a family afternoon tea for my sister for a special birthday and couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience! The hospitality was amazing - all staff were wonderfully helpful and. Friendly and made us feel at ease. Special call out for our host Karolina, who was so friendly and really spent time to chat with us, explain the menu and check with our needs. She really made the day! What a beautiful setting, gorgeous house and grounds and really lovely food. I’d heartily recommend to anyone and will be coming back again

We were not impressed with the afternoon tea. The staff was friendly but the service was slow and the seating slightly uncomfortable. We got married there in 2010 and we were looking forward to revisit. We had to ask twice to get some boxes so we could take the rest of the food home. We’ve been to an afternoon tea elsewhere the week before and it was almost half the price and a much better service. Also we had ordered vegetarian sandwiches, however we only got one round of sandwiches when there supposed to be two. Not once did anyone check on us to see if everything was to our satisfaction. We won’t go there again. Overpriced and poor service.

Overpriced at £41 with a service charge between 4 of 25.25 meaning afternoon tea actually £47.32. Afternoon tea not good enough to warrant that charge. It was nice but not that nice and not that special. Vi have had better.

Treated for afternoon tea by some friends and was looking forward to visiting as had done the tea many years ago. Unfortunately like many other reviews there were issues with delays, lack of staff, and quality of the sandwiches (cold, thick and dry). Good job I was not paying as I would have complained. This hotel is in a beautiful spot but it struggles with occupancy. This means there is maintenance issues and provision of plug in heaters rather than the central heating being on along with the open 🔥. Shame but they are not alone in that one. Can’t believe the golf course doesn’t exist anymore either 🤔

From start to finish the whole experience today was simply wonderful. The staff were so helpful. Let me set up balloons for my friends hen party afternoon tea. The tea was absolutely scrumptious with a second helping of sandwiches. The selection of teas were lovely and then we were offered a coffee to have with the richer indulgent desserts. All the little extra touches that made the whole occasion super special. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending and definitely will be back.

Visited for a family catch up. One of us gluten intolerant so we pre-booked ahead. Arrived and were seated, left for probably 20 minutes looking at the menu. Overall service was very slow. At times when we were looking for a member of staff there was no one in the afternoon tea room, not in the bar. Table set up had items missing. Due to lack of staff, it was then hard to find anyone to resolve things that weren't right - for example when the afternoon tea arrived with the jam and cream there were no spoons provided, and in the absence of being able to find a member of staff we used our teaspoons, and tea refills took a very long time as there were no staff around. So disappointed with the quality of the gluten free cakes, see photo. In summary, personal experience was disappointing and would not return for afternoon tea.

It was our first time here as it was a treat for my wife's birthday . We were greeted with a warm welcome by Reception and then we met Karolina who was our hostess for the afternoon . Karolina was the perfect host and explained what was going to happen . She was very pleasant and personable with an infectious smile . Nothing was too much trouble for her and she and the other staff were all pleasant when we were served . We had the Vegan Afternoon tea and also were asked if there was any allergies or any foods that we didn't like . The Tea selection was very good and we had two lots of teas each The finger sandwiches didn't disappoint and we both had two helpings . As it was my wife Esther's birthday they did her a birthday message in chocolate with some sweets on them which I thought was a nice touch. The scones and cakes were lovely and the right size with plenty of variety . The dining suite was beautiful and in keeping with the buildings heritage . We couldn't fault the service and standards they were 5☆☆☆ We even had chit chat with the barman on our exit to check out the gardens. We would definitely recommend this to anyone and a special thanks to Karolina who made our visit most memorable. Hope to see again, maybe a Spa day or Overnight stay. Thanks once again Esther & Wayne xx

My wife and I attended Stapleford Park for afternoon tea on Friday February 10th, as part of a Golden Wedding celebration. It's a wonderful venue, with lots of car parking space. The tea room supervisor, Karolina, was most kind, thoughtful and attentive. The service was superb. The afternoon tea was delicious; a glass of champagne to start, then scrummy finger sandwiches, delicious scones and cakes. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this establishment. We'll definately be back for more!

I will never go back, the customer "care" is shocking. I took my friend for afternoon tea on 30th December, it was her Christmas present from me. On arrival the place is stunning, the building is beautiful and was incredibly festive, but that was as good as it got :-( I had booked a £35 afternoon tea for each of us, and stated one vegetarian lunch at the time of booking. I tried to call the hotel multiple times after booking, to stipulate my friend needed a gluten free lunch, but the phone lines just went round and round and round (that should have been my first warning). On the day we were told by the waitress that she could still have the gluten free lunch and were given the menu for it, we also confirmed at the same time that I had booked the vegetarian lunch and were given the menu for that too - no mention of delays, problems or anything to be concerned about at this point. In a nutshell, I was served a meat lunch (luckily I happened to pick an egg one from the bottom plate before the waitress realised the mistake), then, after my friend had eaten 3 of the sandwiches on her separate (fairly assumed to be gluten free) plate, we wondered why her cakes weren't separated too, so asked to check they hadn't made a mistake with her order too - they had! She had eaten gluten :-( From there, the delays took well over 30 minutes, and everything was incredibly fragmented. We ended up eating our special lunch at very separate times from each other, and generally lost the afternoon tea experience. They could have prevented this by suggesting we vacate to the bar, or take a walk while they sorted themselves out, but they just left us sitting there. Having the 2nd glass of prosecco we had ordered on the day given to us "on the house" could never have represented anywhere near sufficient compensation for our spoilt experience. I didn't want to spoil the day any further though, so didn't cause a fuss and simply emailed the manager later. 2 emails back and forth still, and the manager wants me to spend more money, to go back there in order to somehow be compensated for the dreadful experience we had the first time (by being given two free glasses of champagne, that I didn't even want in the first place). No thank you . . . having to spend any more of MY money to obtain a half thank you in return, does not represent good service to me. I won't ever go back, and would suggest to anyone I know to be very careful. (Oh yes, and the £35 lunch I had booked online somehow became £40 on the day, being called a "festive lunch" - absolute cheek and felt like a rip off).

They were beautifully presented too. My friend and I felt very comfortable and relaxed throughout the afternoon and we were not rushed at all. We were hoping to have a walk around the grounds but it was raining so will be back when the weather warms up! We had a wander around the interior which was lovely and there was a lit fire too which added to the cosy atmosphere. Some centuries old buildings can sometimes appear shabby as they are expensive to maintain but not this place - they obviously take pride in the upkeep of the building and surroundings. 5 of us visited for afternoon tea on Saturday. We were a bit disappointed when we were seated in one of the dining rooms and not in the beautiful and more relaxed lounge area (where I’ve been seated for afternoon tea on pervious visits). The booking was made over 1 month in advance, so I would of expected to be seated in the main area.Once seated the friendly waitress took our tea order etc. We all chose the full afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was soon delivered to our table, everything looked lovely, however there was no offer from the waiter to explain the items on the stand. When I had visited before everything was explained beautifully, and the option to have teas and any items on the afternoon tea stand replenished – this did not happen on this occasion. We were generally disappointed with the level of service, nobody came to check everything was ok or ask if tea / drinks needed refreshing. We struggled to get the attention of members of staff for anything that we needed.Over all a disappointing experience on this occasion. Went as part of a lovely big birthday celebration, what a charming place! Excellent afternoon tea with fabulous service, food and attention to detail. A splendid old pile with fabulous grounds, the model railway harbours a famous secret too. It was once used in an episode of The Avengers (Steed and Mrs Peel version). It can claim that the wonderful Diana Rigg was once strapped to the line! Highly recommend and tucked away in beautiful Leicestershire Countryside.

Have just returned home after having afternoon tea at Stapleford park with my mum, daughter and granddaughter, we had a most enjoyable afternoon with attentive staff who were ready to help with any questions we had. Service during tea was excellent with staff serving my very eager granddaughter. Overall all staff we met were fabulous and food was beautiful we would defiantly return.

I had been here a couple years against ago and it had been superb and so when me and my friends wanted to go for afternoon tea I thought stapleford would be a perfect choice. Unfortunately I was very disappointed by the service. First we were placed in the dark dining room rather than the lovely outdoor or lounge style room like last time which was disappointing. The service after that was appalling. The waitress was quite brash and rude. The waited kept dropping things when serving us. We were never offered more tea and towards the end we could find anyone to ask for the bill. I was not too happy that we were also charged a service fee on top when the service was so poor! On the plus side the food was lovely and the tea was high quality, unfortunately the service let us down.

Fabulous exprience there. Awsome service, I think the lady serving us was French. She was so polite and elegant with a ready smile and pleasant greetings. We sat near the huge window overlooking a meadow and golf course. Check my review at the main hotel Stapleford Park

The hotel staff were very welcoming to the pupils who were reviewing presentation and flavour combinations for their GCSE catering. The room we visited was beautifully set out and the catering staff could not have been more helpful; explaining the menu, explaining the thought processes of the flavour combinations, They also came a relayed the history of the hotel and it's owners.

We had visited the area around Stapleford and longed for a cup of tea. The Stapleford Manor served us a wonderful high-tea which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were allowed to have a walk through the Manor and had a look at the beautiful rooms. It was a beautiful experience and I certainly will be back with better weather and play a round of golf next door!!

Don't get me wrong the hotel and rooms that afternoon tea is served in is beautiful and very tastefully decorated white linen tablecloths etc etc . Our order for tea was taken and served soon afterwards, the place was very busy but I'd nearly finished my tea and no sign of the food so I had to chase it up. It arrived and the tea explained. The sandwiches were OK but I've had better. The fruit and plain scones were really nice as was the jam served with it. But I thought the cakes were over cooked and very dry. Having said that it's the partaking and being with family at Christmas that counts and on that count everyone was happy. Total cost was £110 for afternoon tea for four people plus a "discretionary " compulsory 10% service charge which I detest. The hotel robbed the waitress of a hefty tip because of it.I wouldn't rush back but the ritual of it all was lovely

The Hotel is Beautiful, the food however was the poorest afternoon tea I have had in a very long time. The sandwiches had been frozen, and were dry and stale, with minimal filling and cheap bread. The cakes: scones were the only nice thing on the plate, they were fresh and even they we were not offered a choice of jam (black current or nothing I am afraid) they were nice. The other deserts were awful. One cake was so rubbery, I found it hard to cut it in two. We had booked this as a treat for xmas and found it to be a total disappointment. The staff were not friendly enough.

Room cold. Tea very stewed. Service poor. Told them that one of our party was vegetarian but they served up all the sandwiches together. Had to find waitress to get more milk, had to find waitress to get more cream for scones. Had to go find waitress to get more jam for scones. They lit the fire at 4pm and then sat a group in front of the fire which blocked any heat. Upon complaint , the response was poor. She offered to take off the service charge, to which I replied that I had already taken off the discretionary service charge anyway. Will not be going there again. Very disappointing

My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon at Stapleford Park having received a Wedding gift of afternoon tea and a spa treatment. We were met at our car by a very pleasant young gentleman who, when we explained we were booked in for afternoon tea but we were a little early, guided us to the bar whilst he kindly checked we were booked in for the Spa the following day. He then gave us a guided tour of the grounds and the Spa taking us round in a golf buggy and when asked about the history of the hotel he was extremely informative and very knowledgeable. He returned us to the bar and introduced us to the member of staff who got us drinks from the bar and then when took us to the lounge where we were served an excellent afternoon tea, he was very attentive throughout the afternoon ensuring we had plenty to eat and drink. The food was delicious and home made and served by a very pleasant young lady. After tea we enjoyed a lovely stroll around the stunning gardens. I note other reviewers have referred to this hotel as being tired I do not agree the hotel is in fact decorated and furnished to reflect the period building that it is

Well...day 1 was a disaster as you can read. However day 2....totally different story. The canapé as crisp and lovely. My starter of 3 types of beetroot and a good local Stilton, with a lovely crunch of hazelnut and rocket was well balanced and light. My sea trout with samphire was, thank god, well cooked with a silky cauliflower purée. However the star was a passion fruit souflee, fluffy mad yummy, with melting ice cream in the centre and a refreshing coconut sorbet. Not pub grub, certainly moving towards higher end cooking. You may have to moan and push, however, the kitchen can produce the goods when asked. With the fantastic gym and spa, lovely azure blue pool, a steam room that will melt the bones and great massage, I will return. Slight wrinkle, the 'wine by the glass choice was limited. Whites accent towards the flinty rather than busty. However, I am an old Chardonnay fart...so what can you expect!

We booked afternoon tea for 4 to celebrate our end of year company performance, the first issue was that the Hotel had no record of our booking or our dietary needs - despite sending multiple e mails confirming plans and booking several other events as part of our day - as a consequence they made no effort to deliver a proper afternoon tea without milk products ... We got dry sandwiches with no spread or mayo and a few meagre slices of cucumber in one sandwich, dry tuna in another and some solitary salmon in another ... Despite having all morning to come up with a solution to our dietary requirements it was clear they'd either made a dash to the local supermarket and picked up what dairy free cakes they had, or (based on lack of freshness) it was more likely they'd dug some packets out of a cupboard somewhere! they they were all shop bought cakes (most of which I recognised) and they made no attempt to bake any milk free scones so served me an empty plate instead! If I had not been on business I would have kicked up a fuss but felt embarrassed at bringing my colleagues to such a poor quality tea! The service was just ok, one lady wandered around with a sallow face looking miserable and un-helpful and in the end we left most of the food and just drank the tea. A really awful experience which signals my last trip to Stapleford - really really disappointing!

Booked online and had dietry requirements so rang up to make them aware. But they wasnt aware of them when i arrived, luckily was able to be sorted without problem. On arrival not a warm welcome... not much ambiance! Beautiful setting... this is what you pay for.Served by so many different servers and only 3 tables occupied in the lounge. Food well presented, we both think the puddings were the best part, as bread didnt taste freshly made. Very very expensive at £25 each... im not sure it was worth the money... then they add £5 service charge . I like to make my own judgement as to if i think the service is worth tipping. In summery.... would i return? No!

Myself and three friends booked a reservation for 8:30pm on a Thursday evening a week ago. We arrived at 8:40pm and made the receptionist aware of our arrival. The gentleman on the reception took us to the bar for us to be seated. 20 minutes later they took our drink order. We then asked to view the menus to which they responded the chef had gone home and they do not have the manpower! The chef left at 9pm. The manager told us it was our fault as we were late. In actual fact when we arrived the chef was still there, it was their lack of urgency to get us seated which caused this issue. The manager offered us the bar menu which was not suitable. We travelled 1 hour and 30 minutes to get this restaurant to leave without having any food and terrible customer service. Terrible for a place which appears to be very highly rated!

Of course, the house and grounds are expansive and impressive. The sitting room, where the tea is served, is class personified. Those factors are probably not sufficient to overcome a rather underwhelming afternoon tea experience. Previous reviewers have commented that the sandwiches were replenished. Unfortunately, we were not so fortunate and, on that basis and at £25 a head, it was expensive for such a small selection. Yes, the small sandwiches were OK, the cakes were too. I personally would expect more abundance for the price and something more than just OK. And, if you are over- awed by the surroundings, be alert for the 10% stuck on the bill at payment time. Again, the service was just OK.

I visited here for my nans birthday for the afternoon tea. The whole afternoon was a total disappointment. My mum and I had paid in advance for the 3 of us to avoid having to pay in front of my nan as it was supposed to be a surprise. When we had finished we were asked how we were going to pay. I explained I had already done this via the telephone in advance but the waiter said he only had recorded payment for 2 people and that we still had to pay for the 3rd person. I told him the price I was given was for 3 people and that's why I paid that. I asked him why on earth I would call up and pay for 2 people and not the 3rd as it doesn't make sense. I was taken to reception and showed the prices online and the payment that had been taken, all the while my poor nan was left waiting. I told the staff I would pay it as I only had 5 minutes until our booked spa treatments. They told us they would contact the spa to let them know we would be running late. We then walked down to the Spa where we were told we had missed our treatments due to us arriving late. By this time I was fuming so I just asked for a refund for our treatments and we left. The whole thing was a shambles and given the prices I was horrified by the incompetency and service. I feel since the whole price mix up was their fault, that they should have been the ones to suffer the loss. Not myself. I will never go here again and will make all my friends and family aware. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

We took elderly in-laws and our Yorkshire Terrier for afternoon at Stapleford Park on Saturday 9th of May, and it was lovely. The food was delicious, particularly the cakes, and the service was second-to-none, from the friendly, accommodating, and professional team. We were particularly happy with the effort and attention paid to Cookie-the-dog, who got her own plate of ham sandwiches, cut up into bite-sized pieces.....she couldn't believe her luck when that plate was put in front of her! The hotel setting is lovely, in the countryside, and the decor is warm and historic. We will definitely make a return visit the next time we are in the area, especially as the hotel is dog-friendly, which is so appreciated.

Unlike high-street restaurants, Stapleford Park offers a more refined, unhurried and relaxed setting for any meal. when visiting for afternoon tea, we were met at the door by an immaculately turned out porter, and within just a few minutes had been shown to our table in one of the very grand and sumptuous lounges that Stapleford has to offer. Once seated and comfortable, we were approached by a friendly and polite waiter, who took our food order and drinks choice from a wide selection of teas, both conventional and more exotic. When served, the food was excellent, plentiful and well presented. The waitress was attentive and again, very polite. She told us that complementary replenishment was included. The sandwiches were fresh handmade and varied, the cakes were delicate and delicious, especially the lemon tart. The teas were very high quality with the full flavours expected from finest quality, the Coffee was smooth, rich and satisfying, and at least equal in quality. The best part... I felt, was the unhurried atmosphere, no attempt to hurry us, no table clearing while we ate and no unwanted approaches by staff. All in all, it was a superb meal, in a luxurious setting.

The settings and the grounds are beautiful.
