After a lay off from George’s Allestree for around 6 months or more due to cold food I thought I would give it another chance. Never again, food was cold again, so that’s that.

We always order the takeaway online, which can be a bit awkward but it saves waiting outside (covid rules) as we are 10 mins away by car. We have had some nice meals here, sat either in the restaurant, the outside seating area or, like today, in the car. The last time we visited we said mmmm..not too good but will try them again and hence two weeks later we were again very disappointed with the quality of the food. How an experienced fish-fryer can dispence half cooked food I don't know. Surely, the very basics are to have lovely crisp batter and firm well cooked chips? Today the fish itself was ok but the batter was unedible. It was so soggy it scraped away from the top of the fish and stuck doggedly to the chips languishing below like wall-paper paste. The chips themselves needed another five minutes at least in the fryer in my opinion. We should have taken them straight back really to complain but didn't fancy face to face confrontation..hence Tripadvisor and maybe the powers that be will read this and get something better organised for the future.

Just returned from our favourite restaurant. We were apprehensive following a disastrous visit to an Indian restaurant last week which was not Covid safe. George's couldn't be more different. More than adequate social distancing. Clearly marked one way system and all touch services disinfected between diners. We felt very safe. The food was excellent too. Well done everyone at George's. Shame not everyone is as committed to customer safety. Thank you. Xx

Placed phone order for 17:30, got there at 17:25 and a couple minutes later saw a bag placed on the side. Thought to myself, they would surely call out a phone order. Overheard one of the servers ask a colleague about the bag and he said ‘just leave it, don’t worry about it’ Was served at 17:36, asked how long it had been sat there and was told ‘not long, only 5 min’ then the same colleague that said don’t worry about it said ‘I’ve just put it up there’. Yeah you might be busy but lying to customers and not apologising for the wait, the confusion, not calling out the phone order? Utterly shambolic service. Spent £25 after all that, never again, waste of money.

Two weeks ago I picked up a takeaway of haddock and chips plus a child's meal deal I was shocked when I saw the size of the so called large haddock I phoned to complain as it was the smallest fish I had ever seen and was sure they had made a mistake. I have used this place many times so felt justified in complaining.after a conversation with a manager I was told I would receive a voucher through the post or the manager would deliver it to our address. After two weeks of waiting we have received nothing and heard nothing. Well done George's for looking after your customers.

George's Chellaston is kinda unique. It's a takeaway chippie but with stylish seating areas with a Seaside theme. Me and the Mrs. are pensioners on a budget and the George's lunch menu prices are so amazing and the food is so consistently fresh and hot that we come here regularly especially as the new Aldi opened, up the road a little. A new Lidl being built across the road from them too. Well done George's, for us two you have consistently hit the mark. 🤔 By the way, Must be hard to keep the floor and toilet continually clean in this wet weather but first impressions and all that! Keep up the good work.

I love Georges chips but the last couple of times at both Long Eaton and Belper the potatoes have obviously had something in them that had made holes and when they've been cut up for chips you can still see them. They are lovely chips but today I ended up leaving half a dozen at L/E. Also, for some reason there, the chips are getting burnt. But having said all that, I love the cardboard boxes for recycling although I wonder why they still have to have plastic forks when you can get wooden ones from most chippys which would recycle much better.

Environment relaxing but tasteful. 'Meet & Greet' manages to combine professional and friendly. Staff - should train all other food outlets of this type. Seriously! Food - superb. And the final frisson of delight for the night - it was exactly the same quality as the last time we visited. Currently starting a petition for a Georges' establishment in all towns in the UK. It's hard to go wrong with fish and chips, a staple of the British Menu, the UK's answer to America's hamburger and french fries. We know how to show it to those old colonies. Now not to say that fast food or take away food isn't great but if it's fish and chip night in your house you cannot go wrong with Georges Tradition. These are the nearest to vintage fish and chips as you can get. Fresh cooked, really tasty and at some of the takeaways lemon and tartar sauce is offered to accompany the already delightful fish. It's not just that these guys make great fish and chips, they actually thought about it and have improved on the experience. Presentation matters too, they don't just place it into a styrofoam tray with a fork in the top, here you get a card box and fold over top to keep the heat in printed up with Georges logo. A small detail, but one that just adds to the thought process behind the growing brand. Staff have always been friendly and never seem to slow down given how busy this place is all the time! Sit in, takeaway - sneak off and eat in the comfort of your car or pick these up while out walking your dog, either way the number of additional menu options gives you a chance to think outside the box when it comes to fish and chips, but the best bit is what comes in the box when you place your order. A jolly good chip shop!

Was really looking forward to going as the old restaurant and takeaway was always delicious, ordered two cod and chips one with peas and one with curry sauce and a battered sausage and chips with onion gravy, got home and the chips looked like thin over Cooked bitty things was not impressed and they didn't even taste like chippy chips a far cry from the chunky twice cooked chips that are usually delicious, the fish was a little over cooked and there was more batter than cod! Curry sauce was awful a really bitter taste and the battered sausage had a very peppery taste with the barely there batter and the onion gravy tasted far too salty and again over done with pepper, was really dissapointed as spend over £15 on this will not return I'm afraid I will go a little further to Shelton lock, such a shame as George's tradition used to be a place where you new you would get a good tasty meal

i was visiting the area by myself and decided to call in for a quick lunch. I had been told that this was an excellent fish and chip restaurant, and I was certainly not disappointed.I opted to sit in the Conservatory and was shown to a table by a very pleasant and efficient young man.I ordered haddock with chips and a glass of juice. the Pineapple juice was brought promptly and served with a smile.there was about a fifteen minute wait, (totally acceptable) for the fish and chips. When the meal came it was delicious. Very fresh, properly cooked fish in a delightful light batter and some well cooked chips accompanied by a small dish of mushy peas. Simple well cooked food at a reasonable price. What more could one ask for at lunch time?My only complaint is that I wish Georges tradition had a similar establishment nearer me in Derby, but perhaps on reflection it is just as well, I might go a bit too often, which certainly would not be too good for my waistline!

Recently went for a meal at George's Woodlinkin with family. We had not booked a table but seeing as it was not busy, maybe 6 tables being occupied, we were surprised to be told there would be a 15 minute wait - there were only 5 of us and a toddler. After about 20 mins we were taken to the table. Four of our party wanted haddock and chips - only to be told they had no haddock, so we settled for cod. The food was OK, although the fish seemed smaller, so did the portion size. The service was slow. All in all it was just OK, will not be in a hurry to go back again.

Staff need to spend less time chatting and more time concentrating on what they should be doing. Had take away at 9pm on Saturday and everything was bad from the start. Had to wait 20 minutes. 10 minutes into the wait they told us they had no peas in the restaurant or chip shop - offered beans as an alernative. Also they told us the pie had to be microwaved. Got home to eat and the haddock was tiny for a large, tasteless, and the batter just tasted of bi carb soda. Everything was cold apart from the fish, pie was soggy and chips were under quantity and scrag ends. I cant beleive this happened as Georges is usually a reliable chip shop. I have written this review so you dont become complacent. If you close at 9.30pm the foods should be the same quality up until that point. It took 15 minutes. Should have taken 5 mins. I went with a group of 20 to Georges at Woodlinkin near Langley Mill for a so-called Christmas meal. The place was devoid of Christmas decorations except for a solitary tree, not even a festive serviette or tablecloth. Anyway, we arrived to be told Georges had "lost our order" - for 20 people! A long delay while that was sorted. The service was slow (the main course would arrive followed by the supposed accompanying vegetables 5 to 10 minutes later instead of both together), the food generally very poor, cold and unappetising. The person who had arranged the meal passed the hat around to tip the staff but very few of our group contributed. But the main protest is that this restaurant will not be visited by us again, a fairly significant loss of 20 persons. And of course many of us will not hesitate to relate our poor experience to others who might have visited Georges of Woodlinkin.

Living in Derbyshire, as far from the sea as you can get on this small island of ours, we have a plethora of great fish and chip places to visit. The best of these is Georges. He has two places that I have visited. The Thorn tree pub at Woodlinkin. It has a large conservatory and comfy chairs. Being a pub it serves alcohol if you wish. The shop at Belper has a take away and a restaurant but is on the side of the A6. There is ample parking at or near both establishments. At both places the food is consistently good with light batter, large tasty moist fish, great chips and mushy peas. If you want something other than fish that too is catered for and I'm told are very good. I keep saying I will try something other than fish but it hasn't happened yet.The staff are friendly and helpful whichever restaurant or take away you go to.

A lovely day, a lovely view and the best fish & chips you will ever have. Not the cheapest but always top notch. I had a business friend with me who was not from our area so i took him to the Thorne tree at Woodlinkin, he was so impressed. I use this restaurant chain on a regular basis as its quality is second to none, and will continue to do so, in fact we were there only last Saturday again with my family. Go and try it you will not be dissappointed...

I've only been to the Georges in Allestree but they are the best fish and chips anywhere, they're so good that I can't buy fish and chips from anywhere else as they're just not up to the same high standard. They're the only mushy peas I like too!! There are a few comments about the price but they are actually cheaper than my local chip shop and much, much nicer. They're not greasy like a lot of places and it's always fresh and crisp. Worth travelling for! Restaurant is a bit cramped but who cares when the food is that good :-)

There isn't much to say about this. The service is efficient, the staff are friendly and the fish and chips are tasty! Would easily recommend it if you are ever passing through.

If fish and chips is what you fancy then this is the place to go. We have visited many fish and chip ships on our travels for football and this one is excellent. The premises were clean and fresh. The staff are lovely and friendly and the fish and chips were some of the best we have tasted. The fish was not dominated by the batter. All served with a smile from the staff.

We have visited the Chellaston branch of George's tradition chippy with friends and family a number of times (probably too many times!) since it opened about 4 years ago. We have used the take away a few times but we mainly eat in the restaurant area. We always find the food to be of excellent quality and cooked well. The restaurant is nearly always busy and can be a bit loud due to there being no soft furnishings, therefore peoples chatter and chairs moving really echoes around the place. Customer service is overall very good but not consistent which is the only thing we feel let's this chippy down a little bit, however this certainly doesn't stop us keep returning to eat here.

I was on my way home dopwn to London we had been working all day and had not had a chance to stop for something to eat. On our way we stumbled on the Georges Tradtion in Belper, only a small restaurant but great big portions. The Fish had some of the best batter I have ever tasted, around a great bit of cod. I get the impression that this is a very popular place to eat as we arived at five and it was almost full and when we left there was a queue. If you are passing and need somewhere to have food this has to be the plce.

This used to be our favourite fish and chip place and we would go here every Tuesday and Thursday as a take out for the family so we got used to the great taste and excellent custom until recently. A few months ago we were lining up for the chips and noticed the ceiling was leaking and the doors broke. They were having problems and have since redone up the place, I didn't mind too much even the time we arrived and it was closed with the deep fat fryer in the car park being fixed my an engineer. We all have these things go wrong and although we had driven 15 minutes to get there we went for a Chinese instead. However our last visit has well and truely upset me and our family. We arrived as usual in the week for the usual £20 order and instead of the polite boy who normally is serving we had a rude and arrogant new girl. As she was sloppily putting our order together we noticed that she had only put about 15 chips in the trays, my boyfriend asked why she did not give us a proper portion as we had already paid the same price we normally do and she replied "portion sizes have changed, I will get told off if I give you any more." We enquired why the price was the same and that there was no advertising to mention this before we paid and she replied "Nothing I can do." We asked to see the manager and when she saw how little the portion was she immediately told the girl to give us some more. I was appauled by the rudness of the girl serving and her bad attitude and body language. I am also annoyed that we have been paying the same price for the same meals every week for years and to now be told they will cut our portion size with no price difference is not on. Anyway here is my new review now.. I will be driving to another fish and chip bar from now on.

Last visited in 2012 and were disapointed with the quality of our meal.Called yesterday(13/3) and found that the restaurent had been re-decorated and new tables/chairs enstalled,it looked very nice but we missed the photo's of the various "georges" on the wall.Had a very nice lunch, good service so things would appear to be back to their usual high standard. Will be going again later in the year.

The quality is always excellent - we only have small portions which are more than adequate. The staff are all very friendly and there is a nicde atmosphere. Well visited by many of our friends on the occasions when we feel the need for something comforting.

George's do emphisise how their products are good quality and fresh, which I appreciate. Which is why I won't make a big deal of the slightly higher than expected price. I suppose if its quality then I can't complain. The restaurant inside is great, good service, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Overall a nice place and the fish and chips were crackin'

We are regulars at several of George's establishments and can say without exception that this is by far the best chippy in the UK. A bold statement you may think, but until you have tried their mouthwatering menu at both the Thorn Tree and at their newly refurbished Belper restaurant hold your thoughts.I can only say that their gourmet battered plaice is to die for. I am usually not a fan of the bread crumbed efforts that you get in most restaurants even to the point where I thought I didn't really like plaice, but no, at George's the fish is fresh, succulent and tasty. But don't take my word for it, try it for yourself.

I've used the restaurant a couple of times and love the quality of the cod, thick fillets with a great light crispy batter. Chips are thick cut and fluffy. The restaurant seating area has plenty of room with plenty of space between table, so you're not feeling as if you're encroaching on other people spaces - plus there are plenty of larger tables for multiple families and gatherings, but it can feel abit cold though with the stone flooring. There is a decked area out the back, so you can take a pint out - (plenty of choices of beers) and enjoy a good bit of scenery. They also do other meals, Ie, chicken Kiev, roasts etc nowt too fancy but if you walk into a chippy what do you expect. The only down side in my opinion is the take-away, they seem to leave the chips on the heater too long, so they're just past their best - so If it doesn't improve soon - It's gonna have to be the Kingfisher in Codnor as their chips are consitantly better, but i'm sure they cut their fillets with surgical knifes - So chuffin' thin!!!!But anyways Georges is a good chippy, try it....

My mother in law and wife love the fish and chips from Georges but l have to be in the mood for their fare. The sit in section is usually well supported and may time you can see people waiting outside for a table.Parking when going for fish and chips is tight just outside the shop but a huge public car park is situated just behind the premises.

Disappointed with this visit for a family get together for a meal and drinks. Very poor service throughout- had to repeatedly ask for service to order the meals and drinks. We sat near the bar and could see staff standing around but not serving clients. Two of us ordered a kebab meal off the special menu and were very unhappy with the quality of the food. Spoke to bar manager and this was removed from our bill which was good, however it left 2 of us eating much less and coming away hungry- not great after a ‘meal out’ This pub is 5 minutes walk away from my house. I’ve visited 3 times in the last few months, choosing different meals each time. I’ve been disappointed by each visit with the quality of food, but yesterday the service and food was very poor. I will not be visiting again for a meal until I hear the meals and service has improved

Situated on one of the main roads into Derby if you blink you will miss it. More of a takeaway cafe but there is very limited seating inside and a bench outside with parking at the rear. This little cafe stocks Project D doughnuts but get there early as they seem to sell out quickly.
