The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

The pub has shut for good and been stripped of all it's interior. A great shame as this should be a thriving pub with a cosy interior, dining room and great gardens, all on the C2C cycle route. Fortunately, the Black Lion at Ireby, just up the road, remains open.

Staying in Aby village for a week's holiday and had to try the local pub. Exterior looks a bit "tired" but don't be put off - inside it's friendly. cosy and lots of character. Excellent choices of dishes on the menu and "daily specials" board - we especially appreciated the choice of gluten-free options and Dawn was happy to go through each option in detail. Good portions and served hot! Very tasty and wholesome. Wide range of dessert options too and it was evident from conversations with other diners, that Dawn would also be happy to adapt these just to suit individual requirements. Obviously very deserving of the many awards over many years.

Had Sunday Lunch there today, excellent food service and price 👍

La comida era increíble, pero el lugar estaba helado. Traté de encender el fuego eléctrico. Fue grosero decir que lo dejáramos. Luego los otros clientes nos dijeron que nos fuéramos. Luego nos echaron. Si quieres buena comida vas a llegar aquí pero trae una manta ya que está helada y eso es todo lo que nos quejamos No voy a volver atrás actitud apesta que es una pena que fuimos en Navidad y fue tan increíble Día

2 choices of quiche available for lunch and both exceptional. Served with a classy variety of simple but tasty salads. Exceptional!

Decent nice lady let us go to the co-op to get food we came back and paid very nice sausage roll was a 4/10 hot chocolate 7/10 so nice for the morning

Can honestly say this was one of, if not the best pub lunch we have had. Food, was excellent, well presented hot and plentiful.

Partner is not a people person, made us feel very welcomed and grateful for there hospitality It's warm friendly and welcoming , we always walk past on way to our daughters kickboxing and needed to kill some time so we got a coffee , we will definitely be coming back in the future we absolutely loved it

One of the best if not the best place in the city to enjoy a spot of lunch in a very relaxed atmosphere with excellent service from the staff.

Had ultimate burger with chips. Milkshake. Tea and can drink. Burger bland. Beef patty poor. After 15 minutes waiting was told didn't have the flavour shake ordered so chose another our food had already arrived. The shake took another 15 minutes which then meant we at to leave as needed to get to work. Couldn't drink the milkshake at all as flavour was way too strong coco powder taste. Overall disappointing and a waste of money. Quite busy one young girl serving and making all drinks so no wonder wait was over 30minutes for one milkshake!

Great jacket potatoes and friendly staff

Proper jackets, nice staff, great portions - perfect. We used to get jackets from this place around 30 years ago, and they’re still as good as I remember them! 🥔🧀

My wife and I visited the Club for Sunday Lunch on 06th June 2021. We were very impressed with the hearty welcome of the staff and the way we were treated in general. After reviewing the comprehensive Luncheon Menu I had the traditional Roast Beef and Y/Pudding and my wife had the Steak and Ale Pie. The meals were very good and presented as well as any first class Restaurant. All the ingredients were cooked perfectly to our liking. The drinks we ordered were very reasonably priced,as was the menu meals and deserts. will be visiting again for sure very soon. We were so full and satisfied we could not handle dessert. I live locally and when I last visited for a meal the food was excellent. Sadly however the Royal Oak pub is now closed and is being offered for sale. The good news is that it is under offer, so if a sale is agreed we may see it reopen, fingers crossed😀
