The pub has shut for good and been stripped of all it's interior. A great shame as this should be a thriving pub with a cosy interior, dining room and great gardens, all on the C2C cycle route. Fortunately, the Black Lion at Ireby, just up the road, remains open.

We’ve been to The Snooty Fox at least five times now and we absolutely love it. Would go as far to say it’s the best pub food I’ve ever had. The chicken and ham pie is incredible (and amazing portion size) and the burgers I’ve had have been so good. The staff are always really lovely too which makes it a pleasure to visit. We can’t wait to come back again in the Summer.

Whilst staying in the area with friends, they suggested the Snooty Fox and a great recommendation it turned out to be. Two of us including myself had the trio of salmon which was very attractively presented and delicious. We then followed with 2 sea bass risottos and 2 Lakeland venison steaks which perfectly cooked as ordered. The ladies sea bass was well cooked but being picky, could have had a bit more colour on the plate. Two of us managed the rhubarb tiramisu which was a bit unusual but very tasty. Local beer( I forget the name) was excellent and very reasonable at £3.70/pint. We also had a couple of bottles of wine which were well priced. Lovely service from Jessie contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Well done to all at the Snooty Fox, we will certainly return when next in the area.

Heard really good things about this place so decided to treat ourselves, what a huge disappointment. Service was abit slow 20 min wait at least for mains and the place wasn't that busy. £21 for trio of lamb which consisted of 2 tiny cutlets, a sausage and a mini shepherd's pie. No extra veg, sticky toffee pudding was burnt. Food was very average and overpriced for what you got.

Booked a meal for ourselves, our daughter and her partner as a birthday treat. On arrival we were told our booking was for the following night, which was not the case. However we were accommodated. The food was very disappointing, the chicken tasted of fish! Perhaps cooked in the same utensil? The dauphinoise potatoes were burnt and the food was lukewarm. Sorry but we will not be back. For the price paid it was a very disappointing night.

We enjoyed a meal here 😋 on Friday evening (15th July) meeting up with Mark Lee of Torpenhow Cheese Company 🧀. The place is quite special. It is set in lovely countryside with views north towards the Solway Firth and Scotland and south into the Lake District. The welcome was warm and the food really fantastic. My venison pate with sourdough bread was a revelation and Memsahib's two "fishy' starters were pronounced A1+ (and getting a good 👍 review from Memsahib isn't easy - I should know that having struggled to get to double figures in 35 plus years). Seriously tasty and worth a try. On top of everything else Theakston's Old Peculiar on draught - not everyone's first choice but with my pate and then a good fish and chips worked wonderfully 😀 Kindest regards to all Adrian

We visited The Snooty Fox for a special birthday meal. The staff were friendly from the beginning and very helpful, able to offer advice on meals and tips for what to try. We ate several different main dishes - lamb, venison, stuffed pepper and chicken, ham and leek pie, which were all excellent, alongside dishes of vegetables, chips, and dauphinoise potatoes. The servings were very generous and left us all feeling very pleased with what we had ordered. We have been talking about the food still for days after. The pub itself is very cosy and has good space between tables so it feels private. On the way out we complimented the chef, and we look forward to trying more of his fantastic cooking! If only there was room for starters and desserts as they all looked so good - the perfect reason to return!

I was one of a group of about 15 people who recently visited the Snooty Fox for a Christmas evening meal. We had pre ordered our meals and all 3 courses of my meal were really excellent. Portions were generous and the food was really tasty and well presented. There was a power cut during the evening, but the staff coped brilliantly with this by lighting candles, and amending the dessert menu, and the service we received all evening was really great. I enjoyed the evening so much that I've booked to return with another friend.

Visited with my wife, two boys & mother in law for my wife's 40th birthday treat... This was our first visit to the Snooty Fox and it won't be the last. The staff are really friendly & the atmosphere is lovely and laid back... The food really is wonderful. We all had a different dish and we were all very pleased... The portion sizes are generous and the quality is great... I had the 'proper Chicken Dnner Pie' with dauphinoise potatoes and veg, which was Sugar snap peas, carrot & swede mash and leeks... Perfect. The birthday girl had a lovely creamy chicken dish which she said was superb. Mother in law had 'proper fish & Chip' which she said were brilliant. Light batter & proper chick cut chips!!! My boys both had something off of the kids menu which had loads to choose from. Both of their meals were lovely and generous.... Puddings were also perfect. Creme Brulee & Ice cream.... Also, loved the art work in the gents 😉. . Looking forward to returning. Thank you.

Ambos realmente deliciosos, abundantes y llenos. Casi también había espacio para deliciosos pudines. This was a return visit by extended family from around the country to celebrate a 97th birthday. It was totally ruined by the food which was, except for the cold meals, burnt to a crisp. On complaining to the lady serving, who turned out to be the proprietor, she was unbelievably rude and tried to blame us and threatened to remove all our food! Yes 2 members of the group were late, as they had travelled from Lincolnshire for the celebration but we had already asked for them to be served when they arrived. The pub was not busy with only a few other people eating that night so their late arrival shouldn’t have been a problem. The proprietor then disappeared for the rest of the evening and sent her waitress to ask how many meals we wanted knocked off the bill. We were so shocked by her treatment we only said 3 but it should have been all 10 – burnt sausages, burnt chicken pie, inedible mini shepherd’s pie, burnt lamb etc. All these meals should never have been sent out in that state by the chef. After that no one came near us, no offer of dessert, coffee, nothing. We left there hungry and very upset having spent quite a sum of money on drinks etc. and having been treated appallingly for complaining about inedible, burnt food. We will never return and I suggest the proprietor learns to accept well justified complaints in an acceptable manner, as we were not in any way rude to her.

Family meal for aunt who was 97. We all Travelled from around the UK. All meals, bar 2 cold salads, were burnt to a cinder. Complained to owner, which was the wrong thing to do. She bit our heads off and blamed us! Couldn’t eat any of it, and she also grabbed my wrist, assault? trying to take my plate away. The food was inedible. . 12 of us for a meal, and was a lot of money we spent on champagne and wine as well. After she raised her voice to us, she disappeared for the rest of evening. We were all starving and no one came up to us to offer deserts or coffee. Left absolutely disgusted. Be warned owner obviously doesn’t like constructive criticism and her customer service was appalling. Such an attitude, we were actually all left speechless. Needless to say, we will never set foot inside there again, and some of the family live local and we have spread the word. The police should of actually been called for grabbing my hand, you shouldn’t touch anyone like that, let alone a customer. I’m not exaggerating when I say the chops were black. the pastry was black, chicken gougons were rock hard. How the chef let all the food leave the kitchen like that beggars belief. Absolutely vile attitude from woman. She shouldn’t be running a pub if she can’t take criticism. We weren’t rude to her but she was very very rude. Left there very upset and hungry.

We were staying in Ireby with AirBNB and our host recommended The Snooty Fox so we made a booking and popped down. The pub as I understand is a very old building but it didnt look run down and had tonnes of character inside and out. The staff were fantastic and friendly with us and the other customers. There is plenty of seating in the pub (bar) section and where we sat in the main restaurant area but as they have 2 serving bars the drinks etc. and service was quick. They have a good sized menu with your main pub grub and some specials. We both had the pie of the day (chicken, leek and ham) which was so filling and delicious especially the pastry. The potatoes (Dauphinoise) were very well done as was the vegetables they served us. The beer was local and nice and refreshing and the price at the end of it for 3 pints, 2 mains was 30 pound which I think is reasonable for this quality of food. It was a Monday and by 8 ish the place was nearly full in the restaurant which is a testament to how good it is. Definitely worth a visit.

Not a problem! We had warned the proprietors in advance and the welcome was extremely warm and attentive. The staff were pleasant and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The main menu had a great range of food but they had also prepared, and printed, a wheat and dairy free menu with 6 main dishes covering Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Cod, Sea Bass and Baked Aubergine. Amazing! We have not experienced that kind of service anywhere else. There was even dairy free ice cream for desert. Every meal was superb, Beautifully presented and delicious. Called into the Snooty Fox on Easter Sunday, with the place having been busy all day. Despite coming in late in the day and the place having been busy since midday, the reception was as attentive and friendly as always and the food as superb as if it is was the first cover of the day.

We visited the Snooty Fox on a recommendation from holiday cottage owners. We were warmly welcomed and directed to the dog friendly area of the pub (which did feel a bit cramped considering how many dog walkers there are in the area). There was a varied menu and lots of specials available; all of our food was very tasty and well presented. Well worth a visit for a tasty meal.

Once again a huge thank you to Pat, Mark and staff for a lovely warm welcome. Sat in the bar so we could play pool while waiting for our food. Not too long of a wait the homemade chicken, ham and leek pie was incredible, huge portion and so very tasty. Others had lamb shank, sausage trio and snooty burgers.... fresh veg, potatoes and chips. Fantastic. Then a bit of a rest and on to puds, oh my!!!!! Chocolate and caramel cheesecake, trio of ice creams, sticky toffee pud and a roulade, wow, wow, wow ......you've got to leave plenty of room, so worth it!!!! Can't wait to come back. Would highly recommend. Go see for yourself. Thank you!!

My partner and I went for a meal at the Snooty Fox for an evening meal, I had a Pork Goulash, my partner had pork belly, we both really enjoyed our meals, they were served with a very tasty selection of vegetables, we agreed that it was one of the best meals we had for a long time, it is a bit off the beaten track but well worth the drive, would definitely recommend to others.

We arrived on a Sunday evening with no booking and were seated quickly (party of 2). Most reviews have said it is advisable to book so perhaps we were lucky with that! We didn't have starters, which meant we just about had room for dessert. I had the chicken, ham and leek pie and it was honestly the best pie I have ever had. My partner had the pork belly which came with pork cheek fritter, bubble and squeak and crackling. We were served a generous portion of dauphinois potatoes and lovely vegetables to share. Both meals were excellent and we really enjoyed them. For dessert we tried the creme brûlée and the trio of home made ice creams. Both came with shortbread which I assume was also home made, and both were delicious. The service here was great - friendly and attentive but without feeling pressured or rushed. The food was some of the best I have ever had when eating out, and if we lived locally we would be eating here all the time!

Went to The Snooty Fox following recommendations in the visitors book at our accommodation. So glad we did. Daughter had Cumberland sausage with chips + egg which was a reasonable size for her at 9yrs. Husband had the Wild Boar casoulet ratatouille. I had the Lamb Shoulder slow cooked in mint, honey + recurrent sauce with diced potato in a leek + cream sauce. Our meals were huge, but so good. It was so tasty I didn't feel full because I was enjoying it so much. 2 puddings, chocolate brownie torte + vanilla creme brulee, both with fruit compote, were gorgeous again. The creme brulee was fresh + palette cleansing after the lamb. The place was clean + tidy inside + out. The staff were really helpful + lovely. There is a big car park behind the premises too. The food is more than just pub grub, but not fussy fancy food. It's good hearty food with amazing taste in portions we'll worth everything you pay. I highly recommend The Snooty Fox. Just wish we were here longer to go again.

I can't praise the chef enough for the fantastic food at the Snooty Fox. I had trout with scallops and it was probably one of the best dinners I have ever had - so much, infact, that I wanted to write this review. Well presented, good quality and imaginative, the food here is quite special and delicious. Lovely pub and landlady and a garden to sit in the sunshine too.

Can't comment on the food as we didn't stay but the attitude we received when we asked if there was any availability was so rude ! Yes, we hadn't booked, yes we were looking forward to trying the food( the specials board looked good , can't comment on the regular menu as we didn't see it )and yes, it was a Bank holiday weekend . But instead of a polite "sorry , we're fully booked " which would have been fine, we were huffed at , grumbled a rude "oh we don't know when a table will be free maybe an hour ", with a shrug and a couldn't care less attitude. So no , we won't try again . Went to another place in Keswick ( also very busy)but the welcome was worlds apart .

I haven't been here for years and it must have changed hands because it's lovely! Unhurried, good service and excellent food. Good choice of both starters and main courses with fresh veg and a potato dish which changes daily. Good daily specials menu. I can't comment on the puddings, because we were too full. I would advise having a starter to share if you want 3 courses. Price-wise, it seemed a bit expensive, although the quality of the food was excellent, but maybe that's because I've been out of the UK for a couple of years and haven't kept up with the prices. Starters about £6.50, mains around £15. Well patronised for a village pub on a Monday night.

Can't comment on food as didn't stay. Came as recommended as dog friendly. Although partly true in as much as you can take a dog in, please be aware that you will be swiftly ushered out of a nice cosy larger area to "the other end". That's fair enough but that 'end' wasn't nice. A small area and not particularly nice. We didn't fancy eating that end so made the decision to head off elsewhere.

There are not many pubs in the Northern Lake District that do really good food, a good selection of local ales and have a warming traditional pub atmosphere. This is one of them and probably the best. The food is lovely. High end pub food i would call it, not trying to be too clever, fancy or gastro-pubby. The hearty, classic dishes with good flavours are more than enough to leave you full and happy. 4 local ales that seem to change regularly is great, not many places can boast this. The only pub in the area that is similarly good on food, beer and atmosphere is the Kirkstile at Loweswater, however the Snooty Fox does better food, and beer!

Come here as often as possible and always come away happy. Very full but always having enjoyed our meal. The portions are seriously generous so be warned! You deserve a medal if you can manage three courses. The dauphinois potatoes are seriously garlicky but oh so yummy. Best to reserve ahead. Most table were reserved on Saturday.

We were staying in the area last week and visited the Snooty Fox twice in that time, Well what can i say the food was exceptional, well presented and excellent quality and the service was great as well even though on both nights we went it was really busy. my personal choice was the Venison Goulash which was very tasty. The bar is well stocked with a good choice of beers and there was also a comprehensive wine menu as well, i would not hesitate recommending this pub to family and friends. The pub is Dog friendly in the pub bar and i would book before going as i said before it gets very busy and they only do food from six thirty til eight thirty and not on wednesdays.

We have visited the Snooty several times over the last 11 years or so. It never disappoints us. After a 4 year gap we have stayed again. Not only has the room had an upgrade, but also the pub's ambiance is, if anything, better. Pat's warm, friendly, and dignified management is mixed with Mark's incredible understanding of, and imagination with, food. The result is a Cumbrian gem - an oasis of quality and exciting discovery. The pub forms an obvious focus for the community, and also attracts many visitors in from outside. Book your meal in advance. It will be worth it!

We visited the Snooty Fox, while on holiday and staying in the village of Uldale. The first night we visited I must admit it was because it was within walking distance of our holiday cottage but we were really pleasantry surprised by the outstanding food. We usually like to try different places to eat while we are away but liked it so much we ate here again and again trying different dishes every time and enjoying all of them. There was an excellent selection on the specials board as well as a menu to suit everybody which is why although I am a fussy eater I was able to try something different each time we visited. The hosts were really friendly as were the locals and the pub has a lovely atmosphere and they are more than happy to accommodate well behaved dogs.

I'm not quite sure if their pizza bases are all the same but when ordering a thin crust you'd expect a thin crust &instead receive a thick crust. Pizza wasn't hot or the best. So for that reason I won't order from here again. The atmosphere was ok as it should be, takeaway is nice and clean & the staff seem ok though (A⭐️- for effort)

I went in here for some late night fishies and the chippings and when I went inside there on the floor was the remains of someones blood from a wigston punch up in the chip shopIt was not a sight a woman should see who only went in the place because she was hungryI decided against ordering seeing the state of the place and decided to raid the cupboards at home instead for something to eat as you do as a plan bI do not think I will go in here again and will choose a cleaner chip shop instead and I definitely wouldn't go in here late at night on a Friday or saturday
