Needed somewhere for a coffee whilst I had a spare 30 mins. I was recommended Higgs Bistro and wasn’t disappointed. This is a great little place with lots of character and awesome staff. This was a place where the service was outstanding and the coffee and food superb . Quaint and cosy. Stop on in

Celebrated my 50th Birthday with a large family group at Hoggs on Saturday night & I’m sure glad I did. The table (for 13 of us) had been prepared beautifully in the garden room & the food, ambients & service were all really special. Thanks for a lovely evening, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience .

Absolutely amazing , food was excellent , staff were all very friendly , great atmosphere . We had the three course lunch , at £19.95 . Food was excellent , beautifully presented . Starter : Stilton and broccoli soup , lovely . Main course , Steak and vegetable pie with vegetables. So tasty. Dessert , raspberry cheesecake , l have got to say , this was the best cheese cake and ice-cream ever. Shall definitely be going back. Thank you

We were a group of 13 and could have been unwealdly but we all wrote our menu selections on the form they'd prepared and everything went well. The food was really good, tasty. Some of the veg was a bit more crunchy than we would have done at home but that seems to be the trend nowadays. A good selection of choices on each course.

This is a little gem of a find. Lovely staff and food. Our third visit and we are definitely going to be regulars from now on.

Four of us went for Saturday lunch and had a really nice meal. I had the beef lasagne which was very tasty. The service was great and the ambience very welcoming.

A good place for a week end meal or a bit of lunch. the staff are friendly and discreet, the food although a little limited in choice is as good as you can get anywhere. its ideal for an intimate dinner or a family meal, the seating areas being very diverse. my advice book and try it

Why I love local coffee shops Walked to the village, went to open the door and it was closed- opens twenty minutes later. Owner saw us, asked what we wanted and made us two coffees as he was ready for the day. I would never expect this and it probably wouldn’t happens every time- but that customer service and attitude you only get from local independents. Oh, and the coffee was great too!

Called into Hoggs Bistro with my wife and mum for a mid morning coffee. The Bistro is in the centre of Breaston a short walk from a nearby car park. The Bistro is bright, airy and clean and has a large garden at the rear. We ordered three lattes and two roasted tea cakes. All were very food and the staff were very friendly. The Bistro offers a wide range of hot and cold food and the morning that we called they were fully booked up for lunch later that day. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This is our go to bistro. The welcome and service is good excellent as us the food. There is always a good selection of dishes on the menu that are prepared on site and all are well presented and if exceptional quality.

Lack of vegan options despite saying they did when my friend rang to book. Was offered a very uninspiring salad and charged the same for other main meals. Disappointed is not the word. At least I'll never have to go there again

Went here because we had their meal delivery service during lockdown. Used the government scheme so saved some £15, but had to wait a week or so because they were booked up at lunchtime. Food every bit as good and staff really friendly and we felt safe.

Great service and the food was excellent. One of the best places around Derbyshire I’ve found. The only thing that would make this place better is opening more than it is.

We noticed on facebook that Hoggs were delivering afternoon tea for VE day. We phoned and booked in advance, Chris delivered around lunchtime on the day and we opened the boxes with great anticipation. Well, we were not disappointed! Lovely filled rolls, pork pie, quiche, followed by scones with jam and cream and a lovely piece of cake. Really well presented and all really tasty. What a treat and a lovely way to celebrate a special day. Thank you Sally and Chris, all your hard work was very much appreciated here!

The food is excellent, the staff are very friendly but oh dear it is spoilt by the state of the toilets! They are clean but they are very tatty with shabby plaster which is peeling off the walls.

Had my 60th birthday party at Hoggs. Sally and Chris put on an excellent buffet meal for me and my 30 guests. The food was fresh and tasty. All of my guest commented on the quality of the food,helpfulness of the staff and the great atmospere.Thank you all at Hoggs for helping to make my birthday celebration such an enjoyable event. Carn't praise you enough.

Went here for a birthday meal and for me, it wasn't very good as I had the steak which was lovely but they had to make me some mash as I didn't like the potatoes that they brought out and the vegetables all tasted of broccoli, which I don't like so was very disappointed, will not be returning.

Went here for afternoon tea and it was brilliant, nice range of sandwiches and cakes, which were very tasty, I also had a luxurious hot chocolate, which was the very best I've ever had. The staff were very friendly and always helpful, if you needed anything, would definitely recommend this little bistro.

There is a welcoming, friendly feel to this bistro. Set in a pretty village location it a very popular venue, so i would advise booking a table in advance. I have had 2 lovely meals here, and plan to go again soon. The food is excellent quality, lovely fresh vegetables, really tasty, and to be enjoyed in a clean and ambient setting.

We have just spent a lovely hour having coffee, the premises were lovely with a nice atmosphere - staff were welcoming, helpful and our coffees were served promptly and were excellent; we will come back to try the food and will now make this a regular stop off on our way in to Long Eaton.

First visit here, went with a friend for lunch. Do welcoming and relaxed. Lunch was great and the pudding was so light, my friend had sticky ginger sponge, I had blackcurrent and coconut sponge. I asked for more custard, I love custard, there was no problem got a little jug straight away. We will be visiting again.

The ambience of this bistro is just right, for lunch. Choice of food which is all cooked using local products meets all tastes and is cooked just right. Staff are friendly and the drinks list is good.

Had lunch with friends on Thursday. Really friendly staff and quick service. Not a huge menu choice and it was on an iPad so a bit inconvenient when there’s 4 people wanting to have a look and decide what to have plus it was quite hard to read but once we had all decided the food was really nice I had prawn and crab salad with half a jacket potato.... not sure why there wasn’t a full one but it was cooked nice and it did then leave room for the absolutely devine raspberry cheesecake!!

We were surprised that the menu, including the Specials, were given to us on a mini-i-pad to pass around! Quite a small menu, I had the "pie" - disappointed that it was only a "Pastry Lid". Service was"OK", prices were Fair - not sure if we would return... sorry.

Set on the Main Street this is a lovely little Bistro that has car parking around the corner. Recommend booking a table before you go as it is always busy and closed Sundays & Mondays. Charming decor and very clean throughout. Good menu choices, we opted for Salmon & asparagus tart, Crab & prawn salad, Lasagne (all served with artisan bread), and Lamb shank. The dessert choices were equally as good and beautifully presented. All very tasty and all our plates had barely a crumb left.

My husband and I chose Hoggs as the venue for our wedding reception on 28th July 2018. Sally & Chris were wonderful in arranging the food, recommending Emma @ Hello Cake for our wedding cake and tailoring the menu to suit my vegan brother too! The staff were excellent in welcoming us into the garden with drinks and serving our 3 course lunch smoothly. It was delicious, all of our guests enjoyed the meal and the intimacy of the room looking into the garden made for a cosy reception! Would highly recommend Hoggs for any special occasions and will be returning for lunch on my birthday this month coming.

Quaint bistro in the centre of Breaston with car parking nearby. The interior is tastefully furnished with dining split between two areas. There is also a delightful garden to the rear, as it was a warm evening we sat in the garden uniil our first course was served.

Came here for the first time yesterday, 28th July for a friend's wedding reception. From the moment we arrived the staff looked after us very well, the food was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Look forward to visiting again to sample the menu.

My friend and I had a lovely lunch time meal here . The food was of a very good standard and nicely presented, it was also very reasonably priced . The service was quick to say how busy they were and I recommend booking first if you go . We left feeling full and very satisfied. Would definitely recommend.

My husband and I enjoyed a most delicious afternoon tea at Hoggs Bistro as part of my birthday and our wedding anniversary celebrations.

This was only the second time we have been to this restaurant and after booking and we saw a review placed on trip advisor in september we thought we may have made a mistake.How wrong we were to think that,the service and food were excellent.We had the duck and fillet steak and both dishes were well presented and tender and all the food was piping hot.The prices of the food and wine were quite reasonable.By the time we left the restaurant it was full.

Poor dining experience food not great and overpriced and service was slow ( the restaurant was busy) but no information forthcoming on when we could expect to be fed and by the time it turned up I'd lost my appetite and patience!

Small and friendly. Been many times as it's within walking distance, but would drive if it was further. Not a vast menu, but some really nice combinations with the occasional fresh local ingredient. Nice selection of wines too. Sometimes difficult to get a table for dinner as it's small and only open two evenings a week, but we'll worth a go.

This was our 3rd visit to Hoggs Bistro and we really enjoyed it. The food is always great and so is the service and the bistro itself is really nicely decorated & furnished. Great for a special meal.

Filete cocinado a la perfección absoluta (raro), le pregunté si había una alternativa a la salsa de crema como brandy prefiero salsa uso y el chef hizo una específicamente para mí, que era magnífico. A cap la noche fuera del propietario abrió una botella de whisky para mí personal y mi suegro para probar. No puedo decir nada más, excepto, volveremos.

Visitamos aquí el sábado pasado con 3 girlfiends. A todos nos encantó la comida. No una selección enorme, ya que es todo recién cocinado en vez de hervir en la bolsa. Encantador y verduras poatoes también. Excelente servicio. Sin duda volveremos pronto.

This restaurant usually just opens Fri and Sat evening but did a special valentines night menu with a choice of two or three courses.Food all cooked to order in lovely surroundings and was delicious.Even given a little box of valentines chocs to take away at the end of the meal.

We visited last night and had a very good meal. The restaurant was tastefully decorated for Valentine's Day including single red roses, candle and small red hearts on every table. The service was very friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a 3course meal followed by coffee and truffles. All the food was very well cooked and presented. The main course included a lovely selection of fresh vegetables and dauphinois potatoes, all steaming hot as was the rest of the main course. Desserts were homemade and delicious. A very enjoyable meal, so good that we did not leave a thing on our plate. Well done Hoggs!

We were expecting something special but were very disapponted. The starters were luke-warm and we found an almost 45 minute wait for the main course after the starter was cleared to be unacceptable. These were tiny portions - the trout was a small fillet and not the whole fish expected. The vegetables were sparse but the dauphinoise potato was excellent as was the dessert. Even with vouchers we thought that we had been overcharged for the experience.

Visited Hoggs bistro today with my friend for a catch up . Lovely environment and service was fab , we both decided to have soup which was spicy parsnip and can honestly say it was the nicest we had both ever tasted and was a great choice on a cold day.Decided to have a dessert I had the homemade lemon meringue ,, WOW and my friend had the fruit pavlova , she said it's was gorgeous .All in all everything was perfect, thank you Hoggs bistro .

We visited Hoggs for lunch and were greeted without a smile. We sat down and I explained that I had allergies to dairy, eggs and nuts. The waitress was helpful and explained that I couldn't eat the fish cake which was my preferred choice and offered an alternative. We ordered tea to go with our meals. I asked if they do soya milk and I was told yes. It was bought out by a man who I believe to be the manager. The waitress then burst out the kitchen saying I had the wrong milk and that they had actually given me almond milk. Thank goodness I didn't drink it. My baked potato was then bought out and I questioned the butter on the plate. I was told it's fine as its vegetable based and that the mushrooms were cooked in it also. I asked to see the container so I could check for myself. The ingredients revealed that it contained buttermilk. At this point we left without getting any apology. I am writing this post in the attempt to warn others and to please ask the owners and staff to educate themselves and be allergy aware. Living with life threatening allergies is extremely difficult and this could have quite easily have resulted in anaphylactic shock. I eat out frequently and it's not often I receive such poor service. Thank you to the waitress who did her best.

We regularly visit Hoggs for coffee and there is always a very warm welcome from all the staff. I have eaten here at lunch time and in the evening and the food is always fresh and well cooked and nicely presented. The surroundings are very pleasant, it's well worth a visit.

The atmosphere in this quite small and intimate resteraunt is really quite special and worth trying out if you are in the area but unfortunately the major part of the experience i.e. the main course, did not live up to expectation both in texture,taste and even appearance suggesting a cheaper cut of beef(fillet) had been supplied as a number of other guests complained,including the Host.No doubt supplier arrangements will be examined as this was perhaps an irregular incident which no doubt the establishment will be keen to rectify.On the plus side the wine was excellent and overall it will not stop us visiting again in the future

The food was delicious and the service impeccable. I was a little disappointed as my meat portion was so tiny and my husbands steak was not big either.Nice warm atmosphere and great place to meet up with friends or family.

This is probably the best place to visit, at lunchtime, for a very comfortable home made lunch. The owners are perfect hosts, making you feel welcome and not pressured to "eat and leave". There is always plenty of choice and the puddings are as good as the main courses.

This was the first time visiting this place for a friends 80th birthday,what a top restaurant, the people are really friendly, helpful and polite,couldn't fault the brilliant service and the food is superb. This was my first visit to Hoggs Bistro to catch up with friends whom I worked with years ago. What a gem of a place. Great service and lovely freshly prepared food with a menu with something for everybody. Great value too. I will definitely be back again soon.

We had a wonderful 3 course meal with family group, in newly built conservatory-at back of restaurant. It felt really "home from home," and everyone had a lovely time.The 2 waitresses were really personally attentive, and offered to take photos of us,as special family occasion. The food and menu as always was superb. Everything ishome cooked to a " cordon bleu" standard, and everyone commented how deliciouseverything was. Our visitors had travelled a long distance, and it was a lovely relaxing end to our evening. Really cosy and warm atmosphere; the hosts are always very caring and enjoy hearing feedback. We have been visiting on and off for many years, mainly for lunches- and the experience has always been great- with fabulous food.The evening menu is a little more pricey- but well worth it- as makes for a memorable occasion. Hoggs is a gem; not surprising it gets booked up quickly for evenings.Lunches and coffee/ cakes also lovely in the day. Pubs and parking on doorstep.5* from us every time.

I have been coming to this restaurant on and off for a while with Mum for brunch and have relied on quality food and quality service by the owners Sally and Chris respectively. We both had quiche this time, I had roasted vegetables with mozzarella and Mum had bacon, tomato and cheese. Both came with cos cous, side salad and coleslaw. I had a Coke and Mum a cappuccino. The food was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Lively setting in the village of Breaston with free parking minutes away, a nice view to the garden.

A great place to go for lunch or an evening meal. Our meals were delicious and the service we received was very friendly. The lemon meringue pie is a must-try!!

Went as part of a U3A lunch group of 26 people and the venue was perfect with good service, good range of food on menu and everybody said it all tasted delightful. Would recommend for group venue but remember there is limit on the number of people attending

We were taken here as a "treat" for my wife's 50th birthday and as a very early present for my 50th later in the year. Staff very friendly and efficient, surroundings pleasant and food very good. Not a huge selection but that is not a problem as what there is us excellent. Our table had three different starters and three different main courses all of which were perfectly cooked, well presented and very tasty. The fact one of our party preferred the chicken plain without the sauce was no problem and they also did a few new potatoes for the same (fussy) person. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a change from the usual chain pub/restaurant meals.

I took my Mum out for lunch and we stopped in the delightful village of Breaston, between Derby and Nottingham, old road, avoiding the A52, you just meander along instead. We went to this little bistro, park next to the co-op by the way. They have a good selection on the regular menu and the a "specials" blackboard ". Mum had a salmon and broccoli quiche and I had a chicken pie. Both came with salad. Mine had new potatoes, hers crusty bread. It was a delightful place, prompt, friendly service, good quality, decent prices, with drinks, just around £20, would recommend.

Lovely intimate atmosphere, with friendly staff. Beautiful, well cooked and well presented food. Top tip - book in advance as it only opens in the evening on Friday and Saturday. We look forward to our next visit!

Hoggs is always a great place to eat at. The food is tasty, well presented, and of sufficient quantity. The owners make you feel welcome. We know that when we book to come here we will always get a superb meal.

Some places change and first impressions are not always met on subsequent visits - not Hoggs Bistro! Our meal was again superb, friendly and efficient service and amazingly good value for money. Went there last night for a special treat meal out and was not disappointed. We had a sharing platter as a starter and i had lamb shank and hubbie had beef bourguignon. For pudding had a cheese board to share, portions are large and the veg was delicious. Lovely ambiance and friendly but discreet service. Wine was good and cheap £12 a bottle. A must do for a special night out.

My friend and I came here as another friend recommended it. We hadn't booked.We were told that the bistro was full even though we could see empty tables - very disappointing. It was about 1:30 in the afternoon. We got the impression the y couldn't be bothered to take in any more customers that lunch time- what a shame!

We were looking for a place to eat prior to our overnight stay at Trowel and having read the reviews booked a table for two. First of all its a quaint little restaurant which obviously was a home at one time. The place was very busy with people who seemed to be regulars. We were shown to our table and given the menu which had lots of mouth watering dishes available. I opted for brioche topped with mushroom and black pudding pieces while my wife had salmon with crab and prawns. For mains I had duck breast while she had chicken in a rustic tomato sauce. These meals were accompanied by fresh vegetables and dauphinois E potato. Lastly our desserts were Etonian mess and toffee and banana cheesecake. The whole meal was absolutely delicious but the desserts were to die for. We only had soft drinks followed by coffee and the Bil was £70 which we thought was reasonable for such a lovely meal.

We have been to this Bistro numerous times for coffee and cake, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner and the food is absolutely delicious and the service excellent. It has recently been extended and refurbished too.See you next week.

It is a lovely restaurant with decent food served with good portions and value for money but I don't understand the staffing as it was busy and there was hardly a handful of staff running around..The management needs to focus on customer care and their needs to be efficiently served and not kept waiting..

We visited on Saturday night and they place was busy but the we waited for menu drinks and the food arrived after a long wait and were disappointed

Went in on the weekend the food was ok but unfortunately the service was absolutely ridiculous ordered drinks had to wait twenty minutes and received the wrong drinks eventually the food came after waiting another half an hour very disappointed

I know it was a friday night but service must still be on consistency. It was the 2 of us and food took ages to arrive. Although it was worth the wait. I reckon i must visit here again with a booking this time round.

Food was on the whole nice but the service was questionable. Wrong orders, missed orders and lack of knowledge of what we are actually wanting to order. Staff should know everything in detail about what's on the menu. Improvements could be made with the potato served with the steaks and in my opinion is slightly overpriced.

This is our first visit to Hogg's bistro and won't be our last . The food we had was excellent. They only open in the evenings at the weekend so you have to book early. The restaurant is small but really nice and decorated to a high standard. We had a table in the new conservatory which is lovely. They haven't got their own car park but there is a car park a few yards away. We had a very enjoyable evening. Thank you

Over the last 2 weeks we have had lunch, which was very good, and dinner which was excellent. Friendly staff wonderful atmosphere, will be going back soon.

Lunch for two was not just a one off good experience. We took friends and had another excellent meal at very good value for money prices. Mine host is welcoming and friendly and provides very good service. A particular treat is the Bluebell Dairy liquorice ice cream for afters - already looking forward to going to Hogg's again.

Visited last night with friends. We had a fantastic evening. The food was wonderful, fabulous taste. The service was brilliant, many thanks to Tracey, who looked after us all evening. A truly great night, lovely atmosphere, great staff and fabulous food.

This is a lunchtime favourite and if you don't book you are likely to be disappointed. On a lunchtime ( which is when we visited .. It also opens in an evening) there is a specials board containing about 3 choices of homemade quiche , cottage pie , a selection of salads such as prawn and crab , honeyed chicken pie ( my teenagers favourite) lamb shank, Cornish pastie... In addition to the specials there is a regular menu. There are a large selection of sweets my own favourites are a toffee pecan roulade or lemon meringue. This is a lovely comfortable restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere to which people return again and again.

We've been here a couple of times now and both occasions were amazing. Each course was fantastic and everyone enjoyed it. It's very rare to not have one person who didn't have something wrong. I highly recommend you try this place and definitely would go again.

Lovely small bistro which was relatively busy at lunchtime when we visited but there was no noisy children to spoil the atmosphere. Nice simple menu with daily specials on a chalk board.

That was a quote from one of our party. Food is second to none. Simply delicious across the board-the veg, the potatoes and the main event. All done to perfection Abd just as you would like it. Portion size just right. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and highly recommended.

Seventeen members of our family were at Hoggs for Mums 91st birthday last Saturday lunchtime. We were made so welcome, the table was set beautifully & most importantly, the food was excellent, the clean plates said it all! Delicious home-made quiches & pies, salads & Mum's choice, a lamb shank which the staff cut off the bone for her, she relished every mouthful! The variety of delicious home-made puddings left everyone with a dilemma, which one to choose?! Last but not least, when Mum's pud arrived, it had two lit candles in it, Mum was so pleased. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff & Mum's 10 year old Great-granddaughter even got to play with the dog in the garden! Well done Hoggs & many thanks.

I have enjoyed Hoggs Bistro recently at both lunchtime and for dinner. At lunch the range of attractive dishes from an excellent crab salad, through hearty home made quiches always brings a smile. On my last visit the steak and kidney pie from the specials board left me without room for more than a cup of their excellent coffee afterwards. The staff are friendly and attentive and food comes quickly and with a smile. The evening offering is a seasonal bistro menu of freshly cooked classic starters and main courses followed by one of their home made desserts. Prices are very reasonable too!
