The food was awful . It took two attempts to get one breakfast right and then the chips we ordered came out with cheese (which we hadn't ordered) . We sent the chips back then the next ones were under cooked!!. Thankfully they refunded the money for those. The staff were rude as well so we won't be going back.

Garden Centres focus on traditional meals including carvery style dishes. The difference with the Woodthorpe Garden Centre Cafe is that the food on the day we visited was excellent with well cooked and tasty meats and a wide range of vegetables. A choice of vegetarian breakfasts and carveries were on the menu as well as daily dishes. If you are near to Alford in Lincolnshire then the Gardener's Retreat Restaurant in the Woodthorpe Garden Centre, is definitely worth a visit.

This was a surprise afternoon tea birthday treat for a family member and the food was very poor with dry sandwiches half a scone without butter and supermarket style buns. We were expecting home baked produce but no such luck. Customer service requires improvement as staff seemed overrun and lacked supervision at this busy time. Unfortunately the experience was not enjoyable and a complete waste of money so we will definitely not be returning despite the pleasant location (for which the 1 star is awarded)

I love The Star. The cask ales are an ever- changing selection and are well-kept by someone who obviously knows how to run a cellar. Tom the barman knows my preference for ale now and if there are brews on that I'm unfamiliar with will recommend the one he thinks will best fit my tastes. He's rarely been wrong. You won't get football screens or loud music, except in a Monday night which is home to an acoustic trad/ folk music session. This used to be in the back room but has acquired so many attendees over the last year that it's now in one end of the main bar. The music is a great mix of both songs and tunes, with a real buzz most Mondays and is well worth a visit just to listen, or to join in if you play or sing. Otherwise it's just a great traditional pub serving excellent beer and somewhere to have good conversations with family or friends.

Nice building. Ambushed by a rude man upon arrival who gave us keys and told us to be at breakfast by 8.30am (Sunday) as thats when they switch fryers off. Whole place stinks of fat and dogs. Door handle to room broken, wooden platform, mattress springs knackered, road noise, a squeeze to get in the shower, no juice at breakfast, but the breakfast is the best part. An ok British breakfast- no other option offered, no jams and butter is flora. The lady at breakfast is far nicer than the young man and the older man who ignores you and rolls his eyes as he walks. Giving two stars as it is cheap compared to other places, perhaps we got the worst room, but will not return to find out

Stopped by with family and dog after going to the may day fair. Ten people maximum in the cafe. Fella in front got short shift when trying to order so didn't bode well. So now it was my turn. I said we were seated outside. Response " don't care where you're seated, you'll be lucky to get anything". I said we only wanted drinks. Reply " doesn't matter, we've got a delivery, be at least 25 minutes! ". Obviously I replied with, " don't worry, we'll leave it". Something was muttered but I didn't catch it. I'm sure it wasn't a sorry for any inconvenience though. Some people were seated outside, they said they'd got a similar " not so welcome" and had also left it. Bank holiday, a fair in town. They COULD of done so well but taking they're delivery outweighed ANY form of customer service.

A great venue just a shame about the poor service & appalling buffet. After visiting Oaklands for many years it is obvious how it is deteriorating! The buffet was absolutely appalling both the quantity & quality with poor service from staff on the bar & lack of drinks available. Such a shame that a lovely venue is ran so poorly!

This venue is perfect for many occasions, but I met with Karli to discuss a booking for my mums funeral gathering. Karli and the other staff I met were all lovely. They could not have been more polite, helpful and genuinely accommodating. The room was partitioned to accommodate our smaller gathering but had the bar. It was completely private. They set it up perfectly and just as I had asked. We chose the hot food option as many of our family had travelled in on the day and it was superb homemade food. I had 4 vegetarians, 2 gluten free and 1 lactose intolerant and all their needs were met .Excellent value and good portions too. With tea and mini homemade cakes to follow it allowed us all to enjoy chatting and reminiscing about our mum with family & friends. Everyone who attended complemented the food, so thank you Lisa, head chef. I cannot rate this venue more highly or its staff, thank you all for making a difficult occasion go smoothly. Linda Neophitou
