Absolutely brilliant, the food was first class. All three of us were well satisfied with the food. The atmosphere was really good, I must say it's getting better every time we go. Compliments to all the bar staff, the kitchen and the manager who came over to chat to us. A very pleasent lunch as had by all. Big thank you . JG

We were recommended this pub from the red Lion nearby where we were staying. We had to book a table. (NOTE: You MUST BOOK even for just drinks!) The pub was relatively empty (about 12 people in groups of 2's etc) . My wife had a Char grilled chicken etc whilst I had one of the best sirloin steaks I had for a long time. It came with peas, mushrooms, onion rings and fries. Both of us commented positively on both the taste and the quantity. This pub also does accommodation. Seems strange that they will not allow you just to come in for a drink without prior booking. Please also note be warned their is another pub with the same name in nearby Lincoln. We originally booked that by mistake.

The Lincolnshire Poacher pub is being run really well especially during this uncertain time due to Covid. The service is first class with all staff well trained in the Covid rules. There’s a good check in at the entrance and then you are allocated your table with menus to use once only. Orders are taken at your table and cutlery and sauces brought to you. The food is hot and well presented with a wide choice of good pub classics. All in all a very good place to visit and enjoy a drink and a meal.

Food is fine portions small,as in very small amount of mushy peas with fish and chips. Steaks pricy compared to other places, grilled tomato few chips on a small child’s plate. Overall it’s ok but drink prices are expensive, and the same drink is always differently priced depending on who serves you. It needs a good clean as in chairs toilets etc and a freshen up

Called in for lunch. Ordered rare cooked sirloin steak and chicken tikka. The tikka was fine but the steak was certainly not rare, barely medium/rare. So the experience was adequate but not exceptional. The furnishings were somewhat jaded, pieces of Leatherette had been placed over the top of the bench seats but even they had holes in them. The table although cleared, and apparently ready for new diners, still had wet glass marks on it. Service was reasonably prompt although as one had to order at the bar there was not much of it.

I booked for my grandchildren to have breakfast with Santa but unfortunately due to lack of numbers this had to be cancelled. The management kindly offered Sunday lunch for 6 of us and if that wasn’t enough he bought presents for the children which they absolutely loved. They made a big effort to make absolutely sure that we were happy with the new arrangements and nothing was too much for them we received excellent service from start to finish, I would highly recommend them.

We booked in here as we were staying at the cottages round the back. The Lincolnshire Poacher has a really nice warm atmosphere when we arrived, there is a small bar area with a nice open fire and the restaurant is through the bar. The food was cooked to a really high standard and all four of us enjoyed what we ordered. Would definitely go back.

Having just arrived home after eating at The Poacher this evening I feel compelled to write a review as after our last visit I said it would be a while until we ate here again! In fact it's been four months! Tonight was a really good experience...there were four of us and on arrival we were greeted by a very friendly young man who was clearing and cleaning tables. We chose where to sit, chose our meals from The Hen House menu...it was Monday's Special and our partners went to order. Returning with our drinks only minutes later we sat chatting and our meals soon arrived. Two of us ordered Buttermilk Breaded Chicken fillets with BBQ sauce and bacon, chips and side salad. Our friends ordered Buttermilk Chicken fillets with Korean curry sauce with chips and corn on the cob. All were served freshly cooked and very hot. After finishing our meals we ordered desserts, pots of tea and two more pints for our male diners. We can all recommend the desserts....Honeycomb Sundae x 2, Jam and coconut sponge and custard and Sticky toffee ginger pudding cheesecake with ice-cream....all delicious! The waiters who cleared away the plates etc were friendly and knowledgeable and I can highly recommend a visit especially on a quiet Monday evening...great food at great value and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you Poacher...we will return! 😀

my family of 4 visited the Poacher tonight - staff were friendly and the food came really quickly. My husband had the pie - which he said was lovely and I had the chicken with chilli sauce which was ok. One of my daughters chose bbq chicken and she did not enjoy it and the other chose chicken with curry sauce, rice and garlic bread. The curry sauce came in a small gravy boat and when she poured it out, it barely covered half of her rice. I asked if we could have some more and the waitress agreed that it was needed. Then another staff member came and said she'd have to charge us for the extra curry sauce- told her not to bother and we left as soon as we had finished. Disappointing service if they cannot give you another ladle of sauce so that a child can enjoy her meal

We were a bit surprised when we walked into the Inn as we expected it to be a pub. We assumed the area we walked into was the restaurant, but this turned out to be the pre eating area with a bar. We each had a beer from the Greene King craft American style beers on offer. After ordering the food and when it was ready we were shown to our table. I had chosen the lasagne as I didn't have much of an appetite, it was served with a side salad and garlic bread and a choice of new potatoes of chips. The Lasagne was home made and very tasty. I could get two courses for £12.00 off a set menu, so chose Bread and Butter Pudding served with custard and ice cream, this I shared with my husband who had chosen a dish off the specials menu, Sea Bream. He seemed pleased with this, I probably would have chosen it myself except it was served with Prawns, which I can't eat.

We wanted a pub-type of place in Lincoln, which served lunches and has a car park (public car parks in Lincoln are very expensive and often inconveniently located). One had been recommended to us but we telephoned, just to check that it was not one of these "stop serving food at two" places, only to find that they no longer served lunch at all. Although we had a shaky start to our evening, as we had to wait an hour or so before we could order our meal (they had a large Christmas party in for a three course meal), trust me, it was well worth the wait!In fairness, the staff were very friendly and helpful and very apologetic about our having to wait, which eased the situation somewhat. We hadn't booked beforehand, so our fault in that respect. The meals were excellent and the portions were simply HUGE! We could quite easily have had one meal between the two of us - there were enough chips to feed four at least! Nothing was too much trouble and given the large number of people they were catering for, they were highly professional and coped extremely well. Highly recommended for their food and if we visit the Lincoln Christmas market again, will check out the accommodation they have here too.

Although the black board outside advertised food being served, they weren't serving as the kitchen was being redecorated. So we went to the Poacher and were advised that whilst they were serving food, there would be a delay as they had a large party in for a Christmas meal.Whilst we did have to wait it didn't take as long as we'd expected for our meals to be served, fillet steak Rossini for my wife and mixed grill for me. Both were delicious, served nice and hot with enough fresh vegetables and PROPER chips to serve four. Passing on our compliments to the waitress she told us that there was only one man cooking in the kitchen, well I take my hat off to him for preparing such delicious food given the number of diner's in the pub.Don't hesitate to give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Sad to say he looked very scruffy? Poor selection at the carvery. Fatty pork served? Apple sauce was "off" (Tasted bitter). Area round the vegetable station was littered with fallen veg, this could have caused a very bad accident if anyone had slipped in such a small area, NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CLEAN UP. The veg selection was not very warm, UTENSILS were hard to use.. But I must give 10 out of 10 for the roast potatoes. FELT LET DOWN ON THIS VISIT.

The new menu is awful, all the food I enjoyed that was on it is gone, and some of the food that sounds tasty is just not. I've had burgers, curries and a few other things. Everything tastes salty. The prices however are still cheap but its a huge downgrade.I think they've been trying to cut prices as I've also noticed a few other changes like the contactless card machine being removed. Went for the first time today for carvery. The food itself was fine but I was facing the carvery hot cabinet. Only once, in a 2 hour visit, did I see the large catering pots that the vegetables and potatoes were in, changed. The cauliflower cheese pot was taken away and a fresh one bought out but the rest were only topped up. Fresh veg and potatoes were bought out but pored ON TOP of the veg already in there. I can only imagine how that tastes after a while sat in the heat...be wary. Had apple pie for dessert, the description of it on the menu is ' Crisp shortcrust pastry filled with tart and sweet Bramley apples. Served with custard.' It isn't. It's microwaved, the pastry was soggy and the apple was almost cemented to the plate. Custard was instant and in the tiniest pot imaginable. Overall a very disappointing visit, I won't be rushing back anytime soon

To my shock , I was told that no one could light it. By the time our meal was brought to us, I was frozen I had 4 cups of coffee just to try and keep warm. I don't live in Lincoln, but my mother does and so I have been to the Poacher before. The meals are standard fayre; nothing too exciting, but have always been a reasonable price and of acceptable quality for the price. No-one expects Raymond Blanc at these prices. We came to Lincoln to deliver gifts as I'm working over Christmas, so were treated to a Christmas Menu at the Poacher this evening. My advice. if you're thinking of doing this....DON'T!For starters, there were prawn cocktails and paté. The latter was passable, but the prawns were a miserly portion and tasted of nothing. For main course, we had two beef bourguignon. We live in the south, near to the Channel Tunnel and had been to France only a few days ago, where we also had this dish for lunch. The beef there was soft, tender and plentiful, the sauce was rich and thick and the accompaniments (shallots and mushrooms) were large and delicious. What we were served in the Poacher was a pot with the most enormous amount of thin, reddish gravy, one of them had two large pieces of beef in it and the other had three (there were sundry, much smaller scraps of beef in the pot if you fished around the gravy!), there was one shallot in each and a few, very flat and tasteless mushrooms. It was dire. There was a hint of paprika in the sauce and so it did sort-of resemble beef bourguignon on the palate, but that was where the similarity ended. It came with vegetables and two roast potatoes. These roasties felt to me like they had been deep fried. They were very crisp and actually quite tasty on the outside, but the inside was mush. What had once been a fluffy potato had been turned into a mushy, tasteless, semi-liquid. I ate it, not wanting to upset my mother as she goes to the Poacher a lot and I didn't want her to feel that I wasn't enjoying her treat to us.Dessert was slightly better, in an out-of-the-packet way, despite the fact it had been dressed up to sound Christmassy (the 'Jingle Belle' mousse anyone?)In between the starters and the main, I went to fetch some drinks. I could see the main course arriving, but I held out. The two people serving at the bar were slow. Initially, only the guy was serving as the girl was doing something else. He acknowledged my existence but went back to his end of the bar and served there. He served people who turned up after me. When the girl came, she got caught up in a never-ending order from a load of people who kept adding drink after drink as more and more people arrived. I stood there for 10 minutes after my mains had arrived on the table and eventually gave up. I returned to the table empty-handed.After dinner, we asked for coffee. The machine had broken and so there was no coffee. Oh and one of us wanted something on the menu that they didn't have...this was the 'special' Christmas menu, so you would think they would have had plenty in. The replacement, when it came, was so small that it shouldn't have bothered. He was offered a double portion, but declined.I'm sorry, but I hated the whole experience and was pleased to leave. The food was of a terrible quality, the service was rather shoddy and it wasn't at all a special meal. My mother thinks otherwise though and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Sunday carvery & veg have been better previously. The roast potatoes felt too soft & not crispy, The beef looked tough & a little dry, though the pork was nice despite the fat still on it & the best bit was the Yorkshire pudding & stuffing!! There was no table service, ordered at the bar, purchased drinks too, then left. AVERAGE for convenient lunches or meals. Can do much better.

If you're hungry in Metheringham on Tuesday, then the Lincolnshire Poacher is the only pub in the village that does food. I think there were only two staff on the whole night, the barmaid and the chef. You will need time on your side, but they did a pretty good job of getting everyone fed and watered. Food was fairly decent, but you certainly paid for it. The folks next to me had a mixed grill, which for the price, left a pretty sour taste in the mouth and a look of "really?" on the lads face. You won't get a steak for less than £20, which will buy you a pack of five steaks in Aldi. Presentation wasn't bad on the seafood starter, but the rest of the meals generally had a home cooked look to them. If this place wants to take off, it really needs a makeover - and a lot more umph in the food if they want to continue to justify those prices.

A lovely setting, great staff and average food. Our overall view is: Far too expensive for what you get. Drinks are overpriced as is the food. You can go to a far more exclusive restaurant and pay less :(

I went with my partner on a Friday at around half past 7. It was a welcoming enough place and we were drawn to it because of the fairy lights we had seen in the beer garden on our drives past.It was quite busy so we expected a wait on our food but not a 45 minute one and as others have said, once you got your food, no one came to check you was okay. I always say it annoys me when people do that but it's something I've come to expect when eating somewhere and get it at my local pub whenever I go in. I found the food itself to be nothing special and was disappointed as I expected something quite special/different after the wait we had for it. There was plenty of people there for a drink and to me it seemed more like a drinking establishment with a haphazard attempt at food. On a nice evening I would definitely return for a drink or two in the beer garden and to let kids run around the play area but I wouldn't return for the food.

Was buffet style but served instead of help your self. Was nice enough but not impressed with the service. There only one member of staff serving and taking orders at the same time and things did not appear very well organised. Was pleasant enough but would not rush to go again ........

Been here a few times now since moving to the village and never had a bad meal. The prices are excellent and as much as I love pudding I am often full from the tasty mains that mean I rarely take advantage of the main and pudding for £12 deal. Every time we have been the service has been fantastic.

Basic Pub Grub, but very tasty, good value, and the service was excellent. We shall dine there again, and we shall not leave it so long this time. Well done.

Eaten in here twice recently - in the bar rather than the restaurant, though it's the same menu. Very pleased indeed with the friendliness of the welcome, the pleasant, warm, well-lit bar, immaculate "facilities" and most of all with the food which is freshly prepared, quality ingredients nicely cooked and nicely presented. A section of the menu is given over to "Two main courses for £12" (which may be a time limited offer, not sure) and that's where we've been choosing from.Another big thumbs up goes to the smoking area outside which may not be of interest to everyone, but is supremely well done providing the necessary ventilation with shelter from rain and wind.
