better late than never, whilst driving down to p/borough for my yearly visit for truckfest, i decided to take a break for lunch at flos, but i had booked in advance via facebook messenger due to current climate with COVID 19,& with truckfest being 4months later than normal. anyway i followed the cafes social distancing rules and waited and then shown to my table which was reserved and near the door,& within minutes, i was served & i decided to order sausage egg chips & beans & coffee and b'n'b, & once again flos food hit the spot and all for the cost of £6, beat that "MOTO" & welcome break. well done to both members of staff at flos under current circumstances. will visit again without doubt . keep up the good work.

Very dingy looking cafe. I’ve seen a number of reviews about it looking tired and the normal response is about money. It doesn’t cost much for a few tins of paint and a few nice table cloths. Few points I’d like to make other than the very aged look of the cafe as that wasn’t really the issue at all. The main issue was the food and customer service which it purely down to quality and not money. We were seated reasonably fast, but then had to wait 15-20 minutes to be served. I would understand if they were busy but there was only two other tables seated. During the time that we waited to be served for drinks and to order our food, the table next to us had ordered, been served and were eating. It would have been more appreciated if we had been served while the next order was cooking, we didn’t understand why this couldn’t have been the case. When we were finally acknowledged as customers. We ordered two glasses of orange juice (not allowed a glass of water, not quite sure if that is actually legal but I didn’t want to make a fuss as we were hungry after a long few days of camping. We simply wanted to eat and go). Our drinks arrived in what would be described as large shot glasses (£1.50). Simply not enough when you aren’t even allowed tap water. I get the whole set menu part, so I decided to order my items separately as I didn’t want to faff about with swapping/ adding on items. However some of my requests just seemed too confusing... back and forth to the kitchen to ask questions, the waitress finally had our order down. Within a couple of minutes our order was out, I wasn’t expecting super fresh fine dining but it was quick from order to eating, which made sense why we didn’t get served before. Personally, I think the cook should slow down and take her time so she’s not rushing to get orders out and customers gone. The rapid flash cooking was apparent in the quality of the food. Barely cooked bacon that tasted of an overused pan, fried eggs that were rubbery due to being cooked at too high of a heat which sat on a puddle of grease. We noticed straight away that a few items were missing, this was rectified within a matter of minutes, and flash cooked low quality sausage was stuffed into its cob, while the hash brown arrived on a separate plate but was crispy on the outside and still frozen in the middle. Again, this could have easily been a different situation if a little time and care was taken during the cooking. We didn’t notice the hash brown until I’d eaten the rest of my breakfast, and to be quite frank , I just wanted to leave as I’d had enough. There was no other customers after us at this point so there was no need to the rush. Once finally leaving, we asked for the bill but had to go round to the house behind the cafe to pay by card. Luckily I didn’t use the toilets due to COVID-19, but I’m glad I didn’t after reading the reviews on here. We won’t be returning, if I didn’t enjoy the food at all when hungry and tired. I sure as hell won’t enjoy it when I actually want to enjoy a meal. I know I will get a comment saying I should have complained. I didn’t see the point as the service was shocking, the food was sub par. The only thing that really warranted a proper complaint was the hash brown and I just wanted to leave at that point. If the cook is reading this, all I ask is for you to slow down and take some time when cooking. If you cook with your pans on full blast, the quality will always be bad no matter how good quality the produce is. If you took a breather, maybe you’d have noticed the hash-brown needed longer than a minute or would have realised that we had items missing. Also if you slowed down, you could have all your customers served and waiting while you cook, so we didn’t have to wait to even be asked if we wanted a drink. A simple ‘don’t worry, I will take your order in a couple of minutes’ would have been sufficient. Instead we were ignored for the best part of 20 minutes. Also side note - don’t moan about your customers when you have an open plan cafe. All we did was mention a few items were missing, it’s not personal. We can hear you, we don’t appreciate it and we will not return.

Those who are claiming that this place provides quality food and facilities must be mistaken. The interior is reminiscent of a 1970s transport caff - vinyl tablecloth topped tables, vinyl / plywood & tubular metal chairs, scruffy threadbare carpets and all that. I ordered a large full English breakfast and a tea. The service was cheerful enough but rather basic. The mug of tea was "brewed" in front of me - teabag in a mug, water added from a kettle, with the bag stirred and pressed just enough to extract the brown colour (about 10 seconds) and topped off with a splosh of milk. Brown milky water for £1. The breakfast was substantial - two of everything - but the quality poor. Eggs, which carried black residue from a clearly overused frying pan, economy bacon, rusky sausage (two cut in half lengthways so it looked like four on the plate!) and runny budget baked beans, accompanied by white margarined toast. It would have also come with tomatoes but when I asked if these could be substituted with mushrooms (tomatoes and mushrooms served as an added extra are the same price - 50p - on the menu) I was told that they don't do substitutions, so tomatoes were simply left off. Apparently, what is stated on the menu is what you have to have, take it or leave it. Effectively, by not having the tomatoes I paid £7.50 for a £7 breakfast. So, £8.50 in total for something that I could get as a common special offer at a branded service station for £6.95. Not good. I must also warn of the toilets (scrawled notice "Customers Only!"). They stank of stagnant urine, the walls and floor were wet with huge areas of broken or missing tiles and the flush on the toilet I used was heavily corroded and, I found, broken anyway. My advice - drive a few extra miles - it'll be worth it!

Hubby & I travelling around on the old Norton, and stumbled upon this little gem. The girls truly made it feel like a home away from home - where your Aunties fed good basic, home-cooked, mouth-watering food until you just about burst. No gourmet menu, though after hours being wind-blown on the bike, their huge mugs of sweet tea, delicious plates piled high, and warm smiles really 'hit the spot!' Your custom makes a difference to these wonderful women. It matters. And they make sure you feel like it does too. Our stop at Flo's was a highlight of that day's travel. Couldn't recommend it more!

For the last 3 weeks until I get my new dentures I have been living on the little 50g pots of porridge. I Have wanting a cooked breakfast so bad. Anyway I've been going into petrol stations and roadside cafes to ask for a little boiling water to put into the pots for my lunch. As a curtesy I always buy a coffee or tea. Today was no different. I asked the staff for a tea and some boiling water and got charged a pound for the hot water!! Will never go into the robbing place ever again! Season of good will yeah right

On my way south down the A1, I planned to stop for a traditional cooked breakfast. Big scruffy sign on the way in about having to have a code to use the loo. I didn’t get that far. I was just going to order my cooked breakfast when the server, asked what drink I wanted. Usually I have a hot chocolate but at £2.50 in a roadside cafe, it seemed expensive so I declined. Instead I asked for a glass of water to go with my meal. Better for me as I am trying to lose weight. I was told I could buy a bottle of water but not have a glass of tap water. WHAT, I was refused a simple glass of water with my meal. NOT ON. I double checked confirming I intended to eat. Still no luck as I was told, the policy was bottled only. O.K., I left and drove on to a much more friendly and accommodating cafe, where in fact I had a hot chocolate costing £1.85 and very nice it was too. Last time I was at Flo’s the lady was very friendly. Not so this time. What a difference staff make. By the way, my visit was around 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. I was the only customer there. I won’t be back.

Very good food , generous portions ,1960’s style , has toilets, allows dogs in(only 2 at a time) surrounded by lovely countryside where one can walk, better than services, , why pay for food at a services for small expensive portions when one can support the old style transport cafes which are disappearing too quickly. This one has good cheap food £1 for a large mug of coffee for instance, ample parking and easy access. No parking fees over 2 hours , toilets for customers only , but that’s fair enough.

Had breakfast here today with the wife, on our way back from Scotland. This is really a truckstop and serves food to match. Do not expect classy premises. However if you want a really good breakfast then this a place to stop at. It was hot well cooked and plenty of it, and that with a cup of builders makes it a place to stop at. Lady serving was friendly and by the number of people coming in it is really popular. Prices are really reasonable and much much better than the big services on the A1. Shame about the toilets as they really are shabby and need some serious attention. In fact the place needs a real doing up.

We actually drove passed this place at first but having been tempted by the thought of a breakfast came off at the next junction and headed back their. Being a cafe that serves motorists and transport drivers don’t expect it to be the ritz but if your after a good proper breakfast this is your place. Previously people have said they asked for extras. Then don’t be surprised the menu does say it’s a set breakfast and extras are charged for. The cup of tea was lovely served in a mug to go with your hearty breakfast. I personally can’t fault the breakfast and was far better than a recent one in Debenhams which did have a pick and mix and served my tea in a china cup. You get what you pay. The big breakfast is what it says and is very filling and I had no complaints about what was served. Please remember this is the original transport cafe and if your looking for fine dining than I suggest you go to the service stations dotted along the route where I’m sure you will find more suited to your taste and will gratefully lighten your pockets

Impressed at the fact I could have a full English up to 7pm, i thought great, i'll go there some day. After driving past a few times, I was hungry one night, pulled in, was the only person there, asked for the biggest breakfast, but not liking anything like black pudding, tomatoes and mushrooms I asked if i could swap some of the portions listed for say more sausages. She let me have more of the things I liked but it wasn't a fair trade, had 3 things took off. Had the meal cooked, got it, started eating and was near mesmerised at whta happened next. In a semi rage, she started going off on one critiscising customers who don't order a "set" breakfast. Not knowing what a "set" breakfast was, I ordered just like I do in the dozens of other restaurants and cafes I got to in a year.... Anyway back to the meal, most peoole would walk I listening to the barrage and hate she levelled at people "wanting to change the menu as they pleased and its "written set, for a reason". My mind blown, it was further messed with whn the bloke asked about where to store the bleach. He said "he put them on the work surface. At this point she says "no, you should never put them on there, because food inspectors and i nornally just do this and blah blah blah and just put it in the cupboards". Now suspecting this was a prank show and disbelieveing the owners were the actually owners and they were actors, the situation then turned into something out of the League of Gentleman. As I left the place, the food being served on a smallish plate, 3 out of 5 for the food, I was already saying "never again". Walking to my camper, I look back, all 3 staff were staring back. Just thinking this was a met gaze, I look back again, still staring, then laughing my head off, I looked back again and theyre still there!!!! Not believing the gall of them and their general attitude, I had to spend a minute or so, taking in the experience.... Never have I experienced something as bizzare in my life.... If you want to be character assasinated, feel uncomfortablr and have a lukewarm at best small breakfast, be my guest and go.....

I am a Shopfitter who travels north south east and west and Europe and I am truly gobsmacked with this cafe ? Why may you ask ? In reply not enough ink in my typewriter to write this review so on here instead I'm not even going into the surrounding which my grandmother threw in 1940 but instead go straight to the food three of us ordered food 1x £3.50breakfast +£1 for a brew fair enough second ordered big breakfast which ended up costing £10 after adding a brew and a black pud ??? Seems like if you wanted sugar in your tea you were getting charged a pound then I ordered poached eggs on toast at £4.00 which after ordering a brew and extra egg and bacon turned out to be£8 as I said whatever it is will cost you and extra £1. Breakfast turned up not much real difference between the £10 one or £3.50one they both said eggs over cooked tomatoes were tomato smash not plumb sausage and bacon of low quality coffee awful tea weak then we get the poached where do I start unbelievable !!!! After the first three being brought to the table they resembled flying saucers with acne but these were hard no squeezing these so complained and was politely told they would do them again fair enough after hearing the microwave go ping and then hear a small explosion we realised my eggs weren't being done in a pan of water so was dreading the next batch my fears were realised when next batch turned and looked like a jellyfish and to be told it's difficult to do poached eggs I'm not surprised it's difficult hanging a door if your a dressmaker in other words didn't have a clue how eggs react in a micro and was told sorry money back never mind I wasted 9eggs. My answer to that should if you could cook poached eggs you wouldn't waste one sorry to say never again micros are for heating beans but a good cafe would know enough said

My husband & I called in on our way back from Barnsley. Both of us had a large full English breakfast as the small 1 would've fed a child of 10.At nearly £16 for 2 breakfasts & 2 cups of tea, we expected a good meal.My hubby sat n watched as the woman 'started off' our bacon in the deep fat fryer, the sausages should've really been called soya protein lengths as I've seen more meat in a pot noodle!! As he doesn't like beans, he was told he could have extra tomatoes as the menu states that NOTHING CAN BE CHANGED - The 'tomatoes' were in fact 2 piles of sludge which would've been better suited in a chilli con carne than on a plate next 2 deep fried bacon. The 1 egg was a virtually perfect circle & was probably the best thing on the plate. I had ordered toast with my breakfast BUT it turned up with fried bread which I hate. We ordered 2 'extras' of fried mushrooms for me, which probably equated to 3 mushrooms chopped up small & bread n butter for him. This was just 1 slice for 75p & 75p for my 3 mushrooms. The tea was lukewarm n had a weird taste.Best of all was the woman who was hoovering the whole place whilst we were in there. Opening times state 7 -7, yet here she is, doing her cleaning at 2 in the afternoon. Not good.We definitely WON'T be going back there. Cheap 'value' food at 'Finest' prices, cooked wrong, don't listen 2 customers orders & cleaning whilst customers are in there, isn't a good advertisement. Overpriced rubbish

We called in late afternoon hoping for a good grill meal but it turned out to be a waste of money and an experience to forget.I had 'sausage', egg, and chips. The sausage was actually one sausage sliced longwise and flat grilled, and tasteless. Chips were standard frozen issue and the egg over cooked. My wife had a chicken burger that she just could not eat. So,after 5 minutes we walked out,£14 worse off.We despair of cooking standards in the UK, it appears that there does not have to be any expertise applied and any concoctions heaped on a plate with an attitude of 'take it or leave it'So,another establishment off our list- never again!Just dreadful, thankfully Morrisons were not far away and we managed to buy some snack products.

Espresso coffee so called was cold, called expresso, not from ground coffee, and charged at 80 pence more than a mug of coffee. Asked for dry toast and got greased toast, which was rectified. Complained about the coffee and got the usual self justification, no refund or replacement. Told them it was a far cry from what one might expect in Spain where I live, and was told I'd better go back there then. Will not be repeating this experience, nor recommending it. Very poor.

I regularly visit London every other weekend. I always stop here as it was good value and the little chefs have gone downhill. well when I ordered my big breakfast I was very surprised when it turned up and was not what I expected, they've changed virtually every ingredient to tasty to cheap. especially the sausages, they were cheap discusting things and the tomatoes was just flowing off the edge. if I could give any café advice it would be to always use better sausages if you want return customers as I did for years, so £15 for 2 brekkies and 2 teas was very bad value considering the quality of the food.

Atrocious. Microwaved Bagette? Deep fried burgher, yuck. Don't Bother. Cup was filthy. I got chips, burgher and beans. I left it all. Never had such rubbish in my life.

Very good value, tea excellent but coffee disappointing. Should have asked for americano as they do have a barista machine. No home made cake but the pre packs were nice enough. As others have said, loos are a bit tatty and lacking in toilet roll.

I see that the few reviews of flo's diner are all saying good things generally, well im about to change that as in my view it was awful. We was travelling quite a long way and was very hungry and thirsty and after miles and miles we decided to pull in at Flo's cafe. Oh how i wish i had kept to going abit further as there was an OK cafe just up the road which i have heard good things about, but not being familiar with this route we didnt know it was there. Anyway my other half informed me that this little cafe must be good and give big portions as 'those truckers like their food and wouldnt go there if it was no good'. Hmm hold that thought.....The front door area said it all and that was the point where i should have got back in the van and drove off but i thought no give it a go. Well there were no truckers tucking into big plates of food, there was a scattering of people who all seemed like extras from a creepy film, everytime i looked at someone they quickly looked down ! you could tell they were thinking 'you aint from round here geeeeet out '. Anyway the decor is quite frankly scary, there are no frills here. Cheap paper tablecloths they would probably rip if you sneezed, a very strange unit that sold things like dog frisbees etc and on the back wall a seriously scary big penguin wall decoration and a christmas snowman (in july too) and assorted 1930's wall stickers. The menu advertised a big breakfast for £5.00 and an extra £1.50 for a glass of fresh orange (this was virtually the size of a thimble and a complete rip off) well if this is the big breakfast i hate to think what the £2.50 breakfast consisted of. on my plate were the driest mushrooms i have ever had ! i thought they were someones toe nail clippings. There was an okaish fried egg two rashers of nasty bacon and two sausages which were okaish but definatly not quality oh and a piece of bread that was trying to pass itself off as fried bread. Eating this food was like being a competitor in that programme fear factor. I went to the toilet after and thought it hilarious that this shabby little cafe actually had dove handwash in the sink area, thats quite pricey that is and looked rather out of place here. Anyway luckily i dont travel down this way very often and if i did i would rather go without than eat here again.

Flo's cafe is far better than the local motorway services. Easy to park, good breakfast menu, good value and quick service.

We stopped here for Breakfast on Sunday. It was served very quickly, tea was very welcome, the breakfast was very pleasant. The price very cheap. As other reviewers have said the toilets do need a update. Would call again.

Flo's on the A1 is a nice oasis to stop and get a roadside bite. Nothing fancy, but the place is very clean and the food just fine and a good value. Onion rings are great! I think my chicken burger was supposed to come with lettuce and tomato but the price was right and delivered quickly. I'd stop again, certainly better than a chain or a food truck at a layover.

If you are looking for somewhere spotlessly clean, fantastic service and good food, this is it. It's a transport cafe but more, I go several times a month and it's always the same. Great. Customers are families, couples and, of course, truckers. Although it's on the south side of A1 if going north come off at slip road, over the bridge then leave by back road and get back to A1, easy!

Old converted little chef that Flo has made her own. The menu is a variant on sausage, Chips , egg and beans. All cooked to order and tasted good. Much cheaper than the motorway services and full of characters no doubt. Toilets do need an upgrade but I understand this is not the Savoy. I will call again when I go past. Happy New Year Flo

We often stop here on the A1 en route to our caravan. The food is home cooked & miles better than motorway services, Little Chef etc. Just disappointed that the Big Breakfast stops at 11.00 am, yet you can still create the same meal by selecting additions to the smaller breakfast, BUT it works out 75p dearer. Hubby was asked to choose beans or tomatoes. He asked for half & half. The server then came back & asked for another 50 pence, which I thought was poor, when we had paid for a decent order for 4 of us. The children's menu states 2 sausage & chips but my granddaughter got only 1 sausage - no explanation or price reduction.I got fried eggs on toast instead of the poached eggs I'd ordered. My other granddaughter got poached eggs & chips instead of the fried eggs she'd ordered. We managed to swap them round without the potential mess which could have happened !Our grandkids like the play facilities here but the toilets need an upgrade & need to be restocked with loo roll as there was none in the Ladies.Overall Flo's is a better option than the other places along this stretch of the A1 South.

I'm an Uber driver and I've been working with this store for 3 years. Recently, a girl was hired who speaks badly to customers and drivers. When I wanted to order food, I was refused on the grounds that I work for Uber and that I don't she is allowed to serve me. this is not true. and on her shift the waiting time increased to 20 minutes. when you ask details about your order she tells you to cancel it as she is busy and has no time to place your order. I asked her name so I could report and she refused to talk to me. it seems bad for a simple employee to refuse customers on some invented reasons

We came here for a carvery meal which was good except for the amount of meat we were given which was tiny, half a slice of turkey and half a slice of beef, we had expected a bit more. We went to order a dessert but had run out of our choices so we didn't bother.

Great service and nothing to much to ask from the staff members specially a guy called Zak served with a smile and table service was an added bonus number 1 bar staff in Worksop
