The best restaurants in Bassetlaw East Midlands

We have visited this little coffee shop multiple times now, more recently over the last couple of months. We did visit when it first opened on maybe two occasions, but have just started calling in again. Firstly if there was a GOOD on TA, I would have chosen this above average, however there isn't and I don't quite think this coffee shop is quite at very good level yet, although it could be. Positives first, it is a quaint little coffee shop, opposite the cinema which has parking. They offer a small but nice selection of breads and cakes. They also do very nice lattes. It is a quiet unassuming little spot, somewhat too quiet, which doesn't always shout out welcome. We have only come across a gentleman (possibly the owner) and a lady when visiting, both very cordial when we approached and ordered. Although I do have to say, they don't really engage in much conversation, and I have to agree with some points from a previous review. You don't necessarily expect any in depth or full blown conversations, but the atmosphere they create is very much akin to library staff environment. They aren't rude, yet aren't/don't come across as very friendly or welcoming. It's very robotic. I think more interaction and engagement with customers would be so much more welcoming and appealing to encourage customers to revisit or recommend their business. I would also have the music a 'little' louder when it is on. It hasn't always been on, or it's been so low you cannot hear it and the atmosphere is again, like a library, you can hear a pin drop. The above is not to criticise, just to give honest feedback on recent visits. Try it yourself and form your own opinions.

What a great little cafe,great friendly staff. Amazing cakes ! We visited twice and had coffee/tea with croissants,they were extremely tasty.

Had brilliant birthday meal at Smoke & Ice Retford. Delicious food great atmosphere staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly if they tried. All the staff were great at helping my mum who is a wheelchair user and took time explain menu and sauces ect. Thanks again for the happy birthday song all 10 of us really enjoyed it and would definitely be back. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Theresa, Mark and all their staff make you feel welcome from the minute you walk through the door. Lovely friendly atmosphere and a fab selection of drinks.

The best place for brunch. Lovely people who work there and they make such great coffee. 100% recommend this place for great food and a peaceful setting.

Visited for the Sunday lunch carvery which was excellent , fresh tasty vegetable selection and the choice of Beef , Gammon and Turkey accompanied by huge home made Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings . The front of house are friendly , efficient and communicate well to the kitchen team so service runs smoothly and the carvery is replenished. We look forward to returning to sample other menus available and support this local business. Well done Kara and her team x

Brunch with family. We walked up from Trentfield Farm campsite Lovely breakfasts. Really helpful and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Very Friendly and great Afternoon Tea a treat from the better half, excellent value. Plenty of sandwiches, by time we worked our way through the sandwiches and the scones jam and cream we were to full to eat the cake, so we ended up with a cakeaway. Would recommend

Being fully gluten free in here, there was nothing on the menu I couldn't eat. The pizza, garlic bread, panini and cooked breakfast we had were all really tasty. And the cheesecake for pudding was too die for! We will definitely be back here again, a really lovely atmosphere with friendly staff.

Friendly and welcoming staff from the outset. There were 7 of us in total and we all chose our own toppings for our handmade bars. There were also lots of chocolatey nibbles to eat as we crafted. We learnt how to make filled chocolates with decorative transfers and rolled truffles too! Everything was explained and demonstrated clearly and we enjoyed delicious hot drinks too. I would highly recommend this experience.

Fabulous place that I saw on Facebook and decided to try. We went on the Greek night and Cary and her staff/helpers catered for us specifically as we are Pescatarians and vegan. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere relaxed and chatty , will definitely go to another bistro night

Finalmente visité con mi hija esta mañana para el desayuno. Y vaya que desayuno fue. Caliente, fresco y delicioso. Excelente relación calidad-precio. Servicio amable y cálido. Menú brillante y decoración brillante y peculiar. Sin duda volvería y recomendaría a fondo

We have been to the Leys several times and the food and service are always superb. They have a baker who produces outstanding bakes and my particular favourite proper (no faux) sourdough bread. I ordered 3 loaves for guests to have whilst they stayed with us over Christmas and they all thought it was the best sourdough they'd tasted. What better start to the weekend than a delicious breakfast and buy your weeks bread, freshly baked at the same time.

On my way back home after returning a hire car, two long days away in Glasgow; walking past Allotment was just what I needed! I thought this looks like we can have a nice coffee in here, and I wasn’t wrong. Excellent choice of hot and cold drinks available, very nicely prepared coffee, a lovely blend too! Excellent for brunch and lunch and treats, come on down and give it a try guys, what a fabulous coffee shop!
