The Sherwood in Bassetlaw

From the minute we walked in.. The place looked fab! Seated right next to the kitchen and kara the chef interacted with us and recommended us dishes to try, now this didn’t disappoint! The food was delicious and portion size was great! The food and staff made the evening great so much so we rebooked there and then!

Kara has starred again, ordered calamari, also cheese and garlic baked mushrooms for starters with rib eye steak and chips and prawn linguine for mains. Absolutely superb. The starters were perfectly presented, we loved them. I don't think I have ever had a steak and chips as good. The prawn linguine was also super with the prawns being cooked to perfection. Portions very generous, little bit too much linguini for my wife, but that is an observation not a critique.

Perfect place for relaxed dining. Like most people, I expect, we enjoy well cooked and presented quality food. And we want to be fed. If you're into micro herbs, tweezers and micro portions, this isn't your place. This is good honest food that makes you smile and feel very full. We ordered the steak platter. It was a work of rustic art! Beautifully cooked steaks, and the onion loaf is to die for. My husband still fitted in a dessert.. I was too full but bought some brownie to take away.. I'll be testing that tonight. Staff were friendly and attentive. Value for money, nice decor,and relaxed feel. Overall a great place. We will be back!

We called in on a cool Friday evening in Feb but was greeted by a very warm welcome. After a short chat with owner and head chef Kara , we decided on a few starters and 2 mains. A great choice of drinks are available at the bar and I chose a cider and my partner a glass of Chardonnay. The starters arrived promptly and straight away we were blown away with the incredible smell and presentation. We had garlic mushrooms, panko prawns and prawn and chorizo Pil Pil. All were incredible and we would recommend all of them. We were now really looking forward to our mains and again they didn’t disappoint. We decided to try dishes we normally wouldn’t go for and what a couple of great choices! The Seabass Roulade and Buddha bowl were simply stunning and so fresh and tasty. Absolutely fantastic and again recommended. Amazing surroundings, incredible dishes and excellent service make The Sherwood a must visit place , if you like great food.

Had a private party for my mum's 80th birthday at The Sherwood on Saturday afternoon, can't speak highly enough about it, the food was fantastic and Kara and the team bent over backwards to make sure everything went to plan. I would definitely recommend The Sherwood for a party venue and I will be visiting again soon for the excellent food. Thanks again to Kara and the team for making it special 😘💓xxx

Awesome, would fully recommend. Front of house was very welcoming and helpful. We asked for an impromptu meal and the owner didn't fail to help us out on New Years Eve. Food was out of this world and we'll definitely go back but this time we will book. Great restaurant and would recommend to all 110%.

We have been to the Tapas night twice and have been really impressed with the quality of food, service and the price. An asset to Retford .

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value for money . Definitely the new place to go in Retford. Try for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Can 100% recommend.

Myself and a friend both dined on a Wednesday night which is the steak and pizza night. We’d both been excited to try the sharing steak platter….. it was way beyond our expectations we enjoyed every mouthful only leaving little scraps. The wine choice was fantastic, service and atmosphere perfect! Since been back for the Ruby boy drag night on the last Sunday of the month. Again a fantastic night had by all. Thank you Sherwood by kook we look forward to trying more of the menu

Kara has got the Midas touch and with her new venture along with her hard work and the hard work from her Mum and all her staff she has definitely put her golden touch on The Sherwood. The amazing food she and her chef James are creating is second to none. The atmosphere and entertainment is great. I can honestly say that if you haven’t been there yet make a point of going there because you definitely won’t be disappointed. Keep up the awesome work Kara xx

Kara has built this little Gem into one incredible venue, The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and Kara is an incredibly talented host and chef. Kara’s food is beautifully presented and honestly I can’t recommend the Sherwood enough. The entertainment this woman has provided over the last few weekends, just goes to show

Absolute hidden gem!! We visited The Sherwood for a party , the fabulous talented Kara had only been open 4 weeks . The place looks lovely , the staff are lovely , the food WOW!!!! I had the best beef wellington I had ever had ever eaten & I’m 53 . The buffet later in the evening was amazing too ! Definitely worth a visit folks I have to mention her mum too Karen what a lovely lady . Thanks for a fab evening !!
