Cannot fault the food. But cleanliness is missing. The seats are food stained and filthy. Some seat are far too low for the tables. The toilet cleanliness is by far the worst I have ever ever seen. Absolutely disgusting. Not sure I'll return until I hear it's rectified.

First time at the half moon. Although the meal was nice £4 for eight chips is ridiculous.

Went here a few times now had steak pie with vegetables & chips with a pint of Amstel & cheese and bacon burger with a pint of Guinness staff were nice service was good place was nice & clean would go back

Great food. I had sirloin steak & jkt potatoes. The disabled toilet is in dire need of an upgrade. No mirror.toilet roll dispenser is not in use .soap dispenser broken. Latch on door not working properly. A very rusty looking radiator .not very clean

Absolutely shocking Sunday roast! All ping food microwave veg bag shared between 2 had a premium roast dread to think what a small looked like microwave mash Best thing about it was home made Yorkies!

Lovely place in the middle of a busy through road. We arrived at opening time and suddenly cars were appearing from all directions so we knew it should be ok. It was Mixed grill Monday, fab food, staff friendly and excellent value for money.

Some meals 2 for £16 week days 12 - 18:00. Plus Thursday steak day. Good service. Have been several times before.

Excellent vegan food. Stopped by here with my family after a long day. To say we were all pleasantly impressed is an understatement. We will definitely visit again! Highly recommend!

Had a decent meal Japanese chicken karaage and partner had the pie. Pie full of tender meat with a puff pastry lid. An eclectic mix of decor/ art. Confused. Good experience no issues apart from the table felt sticky.

Worst customer service I've ever had. Wait over an hour and food had not arrived. Went to bar ask about food . Bar staff went to kitchen to return 5 minutes later to say kitchen had no ticket and would I like a refund said yes and I want the 2 soft drinks refunding as well . Her reply was I have to go ask manager . 5 minutes later a women wearing scruffy / dirty chefs clothes told me I had upset her staff what about the upset customer. No apology just bad attitude makeing it out that it was my fault that they had lost the ticket .

I had large fish & chips, well it said large on the menu. A 6" fish and about 15 chips. It cost them 3 deserts, 3 more drinks and my regular custom as I won't darken their door again!

Nice food and great service. Lady took my wife's allergies very seriously and willing went to check she would be ok to order what she wanted. Food was lovely, 4 mains + a child meal was around £75. I had Japanese Chicken, something a bit different, and it was lovely, very spicy if your wondering. We finished with the chocolate brownie and I can recommend that too. Would we go back, definitely.

Quite a while since we came here after a big so brilliant meal , and a que for refunds but after a dog walk in the woods we decided to give it another go .. We waited for someone to come over so we could ask which area we were allowed to sit with a dog … As I learnt after she was the manager , very rude asking impatiently what our table number was , obviously we didn’t have one as we hadn’t sat at any table .. We looked around , all were reserved , I told her this , she pointed to a high table and said you’l have to sit there then , very rude . We ordered food , which was very mediocre, looking around at the miserable staff , no one asked if our food was ok , quite obvious that they didn’t really care either way … we told the waiter we had ordered sauce , he said ye I know I’ve forgotten it , brought it out , didn’t put it in front of me just put it on the other side of the table and walked away …. The food was only just warm at the best … looking at how rude the manager was serving everyone ordering, I’m amazed anyone goes in , not surprising it was very quite for a Father’s Day when most places are booked up, decided not to stay for dessert as we just wanted to get out …. Unless your very desperate I would advise to avoid this place …

Had the misfortune to visit the Half Moon on Whitwell Common today. This used to be a decent pub with good food. Upon arriving we found it was steak night. Browsed the menu and decided on two half rack of ribs and gammon steak plus drinks. The food came in a reasonable time, but after putting condiments on the food, it was found that the chips and peas which accompanied the meat was cold. A waitress came and asked if everything was ok, we told her that the chips and peas were cold and she said she would tell the kitchen. That was it we never saw her again, and no-one else bothered to sort anything else. Needles to say we will not be visiting or recommending this place. Also noticed that when a waitress cleared and cleaned the table next to us, she sprayed the table with the condiments and a tissue and knife and fork on the table and just wiped around them. Very poor hygiene. Another reason not to go hear again.

Seemed empty for some reason. Maybe because despite being a roadside pub in the middle of nowhere the only alcohol free beer served is Heineken zero (aka p*ss water) really?

First visit and overall a very pleasant experience. Food was good, although the mixed grill had dry peas, no tomatoe and the egg was way over cooked and to be honest should not have been allowed to leave the kitchen (see photo), also the chicken was very dry and tasteless. Dessert was very good, however as it was quiet, (8pm) the staff were keen to get away, no we drank up and left at 8:30. Customer came in at 8:10pm and was told they were closing soon. Overall a descent place but not as good as my expectations. Worth only 4 stars.

Came in for a midweek lunch, the food came promptly but it did not seem rushed at all. The food was lovely, and the service was good. There was a good variety of choice on the menu and it was reasonably priced. There was plenty of parking

The menus looks really good that the best part this was the first and last time we will eat hear we stopped here on sunday after noon for lunch i had fish and chips and was okay the wife had Chicken skewer look really nice but she only had a small amount of the chicken as it was pink and mushy and felt like it was under cooked the waiter was called over and explained the problem ? the girl did offer to try again with the same meal but the wife said no she had been put off and then took the meal away and nothing so we left and called and got a snack at a shop The customer service was not good at all

Very nice food two for £16 menu very good.fast polite staff.very busy on Sundays. Try it.went on the 1/8 had to wait 40 mins for food when the mixed grill arrived the meat was cold sent mine back when it was returned 5 mins later most of the meat was warm except the gammon .my partner ordered steak medium it was cremated sent it back next piece was really tough to cut even with a steak knife .wrapped up all the meat and gave it the dog.will not go again.this was 2.30 and they were not really busy well below standard.

As a family of 8 we all had a lovely meal, the service was great and it had a great play area for the children.

Long trip from dorset this was my first stop, mid afternoon on a Saturday and it was very busy only just managed to get a table glad we did as we had a lovely meal.

Called here on a warm may Sunday at lunch time unplanned, fancied a drink and decided to get lunch at same time. Drinks were nice and we had both ordered the chicken and bacon salad dish. It’s was quite expensive at £13 compared to a lot on the menu so when it arrived was a little disappointed. There was plenty of chicken and bacon but the salad its self had very little content. Little bit of lettuce tomato and onion and that was about it. Very disappointing considering I could have got a decent sized meal at the place for less. Salad is generally quite cheap so wouldn’t have hurt for them To add a Little more so everyone happy. The visit itself was pleasant and no complaints but the meal lacked value for money

Had fajita came on a skillet they were great husband had chicken and ribs witch was OK but not great had sticky toffee pudding for afters that was delicious strongbow was OK bit flat.

Nice spacious area when you walk in Friendly staff, Larger than expected but didn't know what to expect really. 8 specials on pieces of paper in front of a mirror that you had to get close to read. Offer of 2 meals for £14, on selected times and items, Menu not over sized but with a good selection. I Ordered the mushroom and Stilton topped burger, comes with fries and a battered onion ring thing, Was all tasty and well cooked, Waiter presented food saying what it is then walked away without offering any sauces or anything else, I didn't want anything but would have been to be offered. Wheelchair friendly

Dirty glasses terrible service very limited menu. Won't be dinning here again. Nothing has changed. Fish and chips sent the first one back burnt to a crisp, second fish not burnt but a mash of soggy batter. Burger I think was probably shipped in from Mcdonalds, a tasteless mush. We've tried it this one more time definitely not coming here again.

The Chicken and cheese burger has got to be one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. Disgusting 🤮 . Over cooked frozen chicken burger was rock hard no sauce just a bit of onion and few bits of lettuce.

Really nice couple of steaks and a reasonable bottle of wine for £24 what more can you ask for, cooked perfectly and really tender with friendly service, we will be back 😀

I went with my good lady for Sunday lunch, The staff were very friendly. We ordered Sunday dinner, it arrived very quickly, Both my wife and myself thought the dinner was excellent. 10/10

We recently had our wedding reception dinner here on a Friday afternoon. Stacey looked after us from start to finish. The tables were nicely laid out and we were away from the main area. They set up a special table for our cakes and gifts. The drinks were served quickly. The food (for 19 guests) was nearly all served at the same time! It was hot, excellent and we all had different meals. Stacey checked regularly that all was well and cut and served the cakes and coffee to us. The whole reception lasted about 2 1/2 hours. We were so pleased with how everything went and the prices were very reasonable. There was ample free parking and the pub decor inside was lovely and tasteful and reasonable easy-listening background music. Would definitely recommend and we will go again for meals out.

I booked a table for 15 of us to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. We were delighted to have a lovely, quiet area all to ourselves, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The food arrived promptly, and every dish was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Plus, the prices were very competitive. We would absolutely love to return in the future!

We have been to this pub several times and always had great food, so much so that we have recommended it to friends.... not any more. We called in last night and the food was terrible. The "Pulled Park" on my Nachos starter was in what I can only describe as a ball and was totally inedible. Although the Nachos were OK, the melted cheese was rubbery and Guacamole non existent. I returned the Pulled Pork to the kitchen when the waitress collected the plates and she said she would pass on my comments as the "owner" was cooking. The mains arrived, my partners Hosin Beef was OK, he said, the chips weren't hot and his "Onion Nest" looked like a soggy mess. My Sizzling Chicken arrived... an over done Chicken Breast thickly sliced over sizzling Peppers and Onions that were so dark in colour it was hard to differentiate what was what. The Wraps arrived afterwards on a plate that was so cold it must have been in the fridge with two very cold, folded Wraps and small containers with Salsa, Guacamole and Sour Cream When the waitress came to collect our plates and asked if our meal was OK, after saying it was not up to the same standard as we had previously had, she half-heartedly offered a free sweet or drink.... we declined but rest assured, we will not be returning. Surely, if the chef/owner was given our poor feedback twice, he/she should have come to see us.... nothing. Our bill was almost £50.00, don't waste your money.

Called in last Saturday after meaning to visit after years of passing the pub. Wish I never bothered. Rude staff under pouring your pints, giving a huge head on cider when it shouldn't have one, then shrugging it off as "it's lively so it always does it", if she was a new starter it could be forgiven with a little more training, but she seems like she's been there for a long while! Came back to bar to politely query how long our food would be after waiting around 50 minutes with no heads up, and the pub didn't seem that busy (especially for a Saturday) and others that ordered at the same time got their food after about 20 minutes, but was blatantly ignored by 2 staff at the bar after they looked at me. Eventually I got their attention after having to say and then shout excuse me twice, one girl started asking whats the matter, then the older lady who served me came back and explained that she was "busy bottling up" in an awful disrespectful tone, and that they were short staffed (again, I get as it does happen, but you explain at point of ordering and advise of a wait on food). After over a decade in the industry, I would never dream of ignoring a customer at the bar, especially after making eye contact, and when you are short staffed, you merely explain and apologise and tell them you'll be with them as soon as you can, not walk off without a word and then return and speak to them like dirt when they are already annoyed after being ignored. Bottling up is always secondary to serving customers unless they request something that you dont have in stock on the bar. This turned what was a mild inconvenience where I would have given the pub another chance into a huge annoyance where I don't see why I should spend another penny in the venue. Eventually, the food came after a polite waitress came over and apologised for the wait, but it was around an hour after we ordered, which we were very close to walking out and demanding a refund. Everything on both meals was barely warm, apart from the steaks which were hot. They also forgot to switch the peas for beans, which is not an issue as its easy done, just added to the whole situation. The steak itself was nice in all fairness, just a shame about everything else on our visit! Never had a check back, and I don't think any tables nearby did either. Doubt I will ever return.

Bit more expensive than most places but food made up for it

Visited here for an evening meal as a couple, heard lots of great things from friends, struggled to find the pub with all the outside lights off wasn't sure it was even open, parked up and went inside, was ignored by all of the 4 staff on shift with only 1 other table in, we found a table and decided to look through the menu, great choice of meals, place was clean, but all we could hear in the dead silence of the restaurant was the young blonde waitress whining about how dead it is, and talking about her boyfriend etc, we felt awkward, like we were intruding, we ordered food and as I went to the bar I was ignored by the three staff behind (granted one was restocking the bar fridges) the other two were busy on thier phones. Eventually I got served by the young lad on shift, and as I was ordering the young girl on her phone loudly said 'foods coming off at half 7'. Which made us feel even more intrusive, by this point we wish we hadn't come. Whilst waiting for food another table left leaving just 2 tables, us and one other, we had to listen to the young blonde girls life dramas for 15 min, she was loud enough we didn't miss a thing (wish we had). Food came out, and food was brilliant, presented well, tasted great but again all the way though, listening to her drone on, and watch the staff just stand around bored, (except the older lady). No one came to do a check back at any point, and once we had finished our meals we again had to listen to the blonde girl talk about how her boyfriend better be at her house when she gets home... Bla.. Bla... Bla. We couldn't take anymore of the grovel and left, needless to say won't be returning, shame because it's a gorgeous pub, in a great location with a great menu and the food was great, ruined by staff that just don't care. You would think with soaring costs paying 4 people to stand around on thier phones not engaging with customers, doing check backs or creating a welcoming environment, how these independent pubs are surviving. Back to the millhouse for our weekly date nights.

Enjoy coming for steak night, but oh tonight was so so disappointing. Yes it was busy and we had quite a long wait for food. However the steak was so tough I was unable to eat most of it. Chips were barely warm, peas the same. We were so hungry we ate what we could....but would hope if we return again it will be worth it.

Called to the half moon just for a quick refreshment has it was a hot day.this place has John Smiths smooth extra cold 🥶 which went down a treat.the staff are very friendly and hard working.this place sells food but on this occasion we didn't have,but the food looked good from what I saw.there is a children's play area at the side and seating so you can keep a kean eye on them whilst they play.there is also seating at the front and also a carpark to the front and side.

A lovely cosy country Inn. Went with friends. I am a Spanish ex-pat on holiday in England. The staff were very friendly. The drinks and meal were delicious. Maybe a feed back during eating would improve an otherwise lovely dining experience. Well done.

Was at this place few months ago with my wife food was good .been to hospital with wife and daughter though it would be nice to have a meal together me and my daughter had fish and chips was rubbish must have been fried 10 times not fresh at all very disappointing after waiting about 45 mins supposed to be beer battered a joke

To be honest the food was rather bland and nothing special I have to say , although we were made very welcome by the staff , it's many years since we had been to the Half Moon and can't say that I would be in any particular hurry to go back .

The deserts were really nice.. as for the dinners.. we had salmon that was overcooked and dry... sprouts and carrots that were over done, watery and mushy... food that was cold.. sadly we wouldn't go here again.

On arrival we were greeted with a smile by the bar tender who swiftly booked us in for our table which we were able to pick on booking. Sat with our drinks listening to the festive music, the atmosphere was loverly !! I noticed people who arrived just minutes before us that they were served swiftly, but we were patient but to a point that I had to tell waiting staff we were ready for our pre orderd starters. Which arrived within 5mis , my partners starter was over cooked which was the cod I tasted it and it was a little over cooked I had the baked camembert cheese not something I'm that fond of . A personal choice I would have loved a a traditional Prawn cocktail on the menu but that's me . Again after we finished our startes we seemed to wait for ever for our main ,had to remind staff we were ready again . I do understand its a busy time but when you see 4 tables around you getting fast service we started to feel that we were invisible!! The main arrived and there had been some confusion between waiting staff and the kitchen service regarding my partner is gluten free with the Yorkshire pudding but it swiftly got sorted . Well the main course traditional Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings was loverly piping hot just how we like it the meat was tender veg cooked to perfection!! Realy did not have any issues with the main . Now the desert again there was confusion between the the waiting staff and kitchen and we had to wait a while for it to arrive .I had Christmas pudding which should have come with brandy sauce I got custard not impressed . Over all the meal was OK cannot fault the main ,it was the service that let it down and paying £64.99 per head I expected better service especially when 4 tables around us were getting that swift service. Would we do Christmas Dinner again or visit for a meal yes we would, but we would expect better table service

Went for Christmas dinner and it was awful! Soup was disgusting, the dinner well if that’s what you can call it 🤢 4 of us had the beef dinner, tiny little plate with no more than spoon full of cheesy dauphinois potato’s, frozen carrots where used, sprouts, a Yorkshire pudding and 3 slices of the worst beef I’ve ever tasted, it was like the beef you get from the deli for sandwiches and it was cold the gravy was like water! The 2 of us that had the turkey dinner where better off at least they came with mash potato, roast potato’s and pigs in blankets but it still wasn’t the best again the turkey was the cheap turkey that you use in sandwiches. The puddings weren’t much better the chocolate orange pudding was gross and the what was advertised as “Christmas pudding in brandy sauce custard” was just Christmas pudding it’s microwave cooked custard you could taste it was tinned custard warmed in the microwave. Don’t book for a Christmas dinner here and save yourself the disappointment, but I do have to add the staff where lovely can’t fault those!

Went for Christmas Dinner what a let down had beef dinner no mash no pigs in blankets no roast. And very little on plate. Christmas pudding with custard should have been brandy sauce and soup was a poor excuse would not recommend

Food was shocking!! Mashed potato had big dry lumps, veg was frozen and tasteless Yorkshire puddings were like cardboard. The beef was also tasteless and chewy. If I could give 0 star I would and not one member of staff did a table check

Called for lunch and ordered mixed grill and beef in hoi sin sauce. When it arrived beef in hoi sin sauce was burnt and very tough. The mixed grill was overcooked, sausages black , gammon very tough and medium rare steak came out massively overdone. Did ask for horseradish sauce numerous times but to no avail. Up side did get refunded for the beef in hoisin sauce and offered free drinks but did not want to hang around.

I went yesterday and I had a blonde waitress with glasses and she was very friendly and polite and also made sure we was all happy with are food. We asked her if the dessert could come out at the same time as the main meals and she was happy to make sure it does. Very impressed with service. The food came out very quick and was throughly enjoyed by every member of my family, the chicken katsu curry was amazing and cooked perfectly. The dessert was very enjoyable for my young child as a whole it was all delicious! Will definitely be coming back.

It's been renovated since I went in a few years ago, nicely done. Still not many customers early on.

We went last night, our food took over 30 minutes to come despite it being relatively early and us being one of only 5 customers in there. The bartender was grumpy and miserable, he was only young but he kept going up to his girlfriend who wasn’t working there and was just sat on a chair and kissing her neck, not particularly professional, you definitely couldn’t do it in majority of lines of work. When the food did eventually get there it was Wetherspoons standard-I’m not adverse to Wetherspoons, but I expected more because it cost quite a bit more. It was nearly £30 for 2 people. A small fish and chips and a gammon and egg, and 2 Pepsis. Fish was fine, small portions, gammon was overcooked. No one actually came over to ask how our food was, he was too busy being all over his girlfriend to even notice. Then a couple came in with a very adorable puppy and the chef came out to let the puppy climb all over her, glad we had already ate by then because she has dog fur and muddy paws on her by then. No one bothered saying goodbye as we left, or thanks or anything. If you’re around Worksop and want some nice food and friendlier staff I suggest three legged stool.

If you want cold food, you’ve hit the jackpot with this place. Popped in for tea on our way back from our travels. Service was quite quick but wasn’t busy. We ordered 3 meals, all of which came out was the tiniest bit warm. We ordered a cheese and ham panini. This consisted of the small scrap of “ham” (see attached). I complained about this and told them I’d of actually preferred a slice of ham in my panini as a posed to a dried up scrap. The lady who I assume is the manager, advised she couldn’t refund my panini because they don’t make them and they are delivered in. Which means of course they are frozen. I don’t expect all meals to be fresh (for this type of establishment) however I would have thought the “chef” can pop a bit of cheese and ham in a panini and toast it. It’s not great when the the side salad is warmer than the food.

Called in midweek mid afternoon the most quiet time for any pub/ resteraunt. It was nice and cosy and warm Staff and service was excellent and the food was really nice and as good value for money you will find anywhere. Can't recommend it more 5 star

First time in this pub it was warm friendly so we asked if food was still being served and yes it was . We ordered and them food was hot tasty and very enjoyable. We will call again great . Dotty
