Pilgrim Fathers in Bassetlaw

Sorry but I went for Sunday lunch and I really wasn't impressed. The roast potatoes were small and not crispy in the slightest and the Yorkshire pudding though big had a funny after taste and was slightly over cooked. I don't know whether the fat was old but I didn't eat them

I go here quite Regular for drinks and occasionally food, the Fish and Chips are pretty huge as modelled by HorribleCraig and always very tasty!

Pub was absolutely boiling, cutlery was blunt so was very difficult to cut the meat on the carvery. I made the booking and on the day was told there was only one table that they allow dogs on and that this was already occupied? I asked the member of staff what we were supposed to do and he said “I don’t know” Shouldn’t specify on Google that you’re a dog friendly pub if that’s the case. They managed to give us a table for us and 2 dogs, unfortunately one of our dogs wriggled out of his harness because he’s so tiny (didn’t go anywhere) and a member of staff was very quick in coming over to us to tell us to keep our dogs on a lead. As if we had let him out of his harness on purpose? Just felt it was very awkward. Food was ok…

Misunderstanding between us and bartender. Shown lunch menu on understanding that we would pay £12 a head. Did say it should end at 4.30 but would honour it as we were just a little late. If he had said but you will be charged full price we would have taken the evening meal menu no bother and ordered off that. In the end what could have been resolved and has left a bitter taste.Plus they have lost what could have been regular custom for there quiz night.Have been before and had a good experience but looks like its going down hill.

Only went for Thursday Bike Night and stopped outside, so can't comment on the pub itself. *Edit" in response to the owner. (I can't seem to see anywhere else to reply). As I stated I only stopped outside in the car park, got a coffee from the lovely ladies outside and drank it outside. I never went inside the pub so a 3* is an ok as far as I know, nothing special, nothing bad as far as car parks with a selection of bikes is concerned. What do you want me to say about the pub I never went in?

The place was virtually empty when we arrived and we were made to feel we were lucky to get in! It remained quiet. The gammon steak was tough and several items on the menu were not available. They ran out of hand cut chips which is quite an achievement for a restaurant with a chef. On a positive the service was good but overall poor value for money.

Not had food. But nice quaint pub. Ideal if you like to sit and chat.

Went to the 1st bike night. Good group and atmosphere. Need to find another location for either group or BBQ too close to each other. Burgers 🍔 and other items on the BBQ menu need to come with 🍟 for price. Look forward to the next one.

What a shame. Don’t know if they have a different Chef. I went with my Mum and Dad from r a Sunday dinner.We were seated on a very narrow table and asked to be moved to a more appropriate table and staff were ver accommodating. They had run out of beef but then said had blade beef. Our food arrived and the cauliflower cheese was cold. The beef tasted rancid like it was off and I couldn’t eat it. It left a nasty taste 👅 n my mouth for a couple of hours after and I only tried one bit. The front of house staff were brilliant and recognised that we were not happy and we received some discount. Won’t be returning for a long time. Need a decent chef in my opinion. ( probably as I was a chef expect a good standard for the price we were paying). Sorry not a good review, never the less you have some great front of house staff especially a young man who served us.

Constructive criticism, we called today , as it was a lovely sunny warm summer afternoon,to sit in the beer garden with having drinks and a meal in mind . Unfortunately the state of the garden furniture changed our minds, dirty , bird poo everywhere even puddles on the leatherette cushions on the rattan sofas! This was rather off putting and indeed disappointing, as we had a drink then left, I did not want to sit at a dirty table to eat! Such a shame as garden is a nice area but surely staff have access to a bucket of hot soapy water or hosepipe! Country pubs are few and far between these days especially those who sell decent food, please review the cleanliness of your garden furniture , we don’t want to sit in dirt and bird poo!

Service started fine, then we had to go and ask for a dessert menu, then ask again to place orders for dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was barely lukewarm. Portions were a bit stingey, service charge was added, and appeared in the middle of the bill, so not immediately obvious. Chairs were dirty. Not really good value, we won't be returning again.

Very disappointed website menus and prices were out of date and bore no resemblance to to actual menu I had salmon which I asked to change potato for salad it came with a few leaves and they didn’t put on the broccoli very poor small piece of salmon and a few leaves for £17’.95 the other 3 also had meals at the price of £17.95 in addition we had 2 glasses of wine 1 larger and 1 beer when we went to pay the bill they said it was £150 when this was disputed they came up with £115 which I feel is still incorrect for £35.90 food per couple we won’t be back and definitely wouldn’t recommend it I would give it a miss on top of that we were next to a large table with noisy unruly children altogether an extremely unpleasant experience that won’t be repeated I don’t usually complain but it was so poor I feel obliged to comment

Very disappointed with the meal and we was put on table 12 it was so tight you had a job to sit in the chair's. We asked for a different table none available, was suggested to us we pulled the table out and we were the ones who had to move them .some type of metal ornament that stuck out of the wall was so dangerous health and safety not apparent. The beef was so tough even the people on the next table complained definitely not topside in all a terrible experience.

I went there for the first time with my wife and daughter and they couldn't be more welcoming. Great food and friendly staff.

Good food, great service and a friendly atmosphere, highly recommended

Lovely pub very cosy. Food wasn't great unfortunately. We had a bigger group and by time the food came out some had finished eating while others were just getting their food. Some food missing too. Only 2 staff on front and one didn't look like she had been working long. The floor was a death trap as was very slippy. Overall won't be returning which is a shame.

Have been several times and always excellent service.. Lovely beer garden, brilliant in the summer Sufficient menu, decent sized portions and lovely food.. We never leave hungry.. Would recommend.. And will be returning..👏👏

Excellent food and excellent service

Very hit and miss this place. Had the "Fish & Chips" Fish was massively overcooked so ended up leaving 2/3 of it. Told the chap, just said he'd tell the chef, no apology, nothing, so will probably not ho here again. Also run out of basic items frequently.

Nice place, clean and tidy, and friendly staff too.

The "pub grub" food is well cooked and beautifully presented and delicious and great choices at a reasonable price. The staff are warm,friendly and helpful. We took two dogs in, and there's a special area ( a small snug) you can sit. Or in the summer there's a large comfortable beer garden. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it and we'll be returning there soon.

Had a meal with friends and we were all very impressed , lovely well cooked chips (thrice?) and the staff were very accommodating when we wanted to change our order slightly , excellent 👍

Unfortunately found a hair in my meat pie. As it would apparently take half an hour or so to cook me something different, I opted for a portion of chips instead. To my dismay I found another hair, this time a different colour, which the server confirmed was from someone in the kitchen

Nice food and very good quick service. Food all cooked fresh and very friendly staff. All the meals coming out of the kitchen looked very good. The chunky chips are lovely and they have a very good extensive menu. Lots of history around and in the pub about the Pilgrim Fathers if you are a history buff. Will definately call again.

Best food in a 50 mile radius without doubt

This was the second time my daughter and I have been and (apart from a bit of lighthearted banter about the beer prices) I have to say I cannot, in all honesty, find fault. The food, on both occasions, was delicious, well presented and cooked to our preferences. The service was also very good, both young men behind the bar effective, efficient and attentive to our needs. I have recommended the Pilgrim Father's to family and friends and today's visit has given no reason not to continue to do so. Thank you all at the Pilgrim Fathers.

Great food, really nice ambience, great in the summer with kids, (big outdoor area) nice and cozy in the winter.

Great country pub. The food was amazing and portions were very good. Would go as far to say it was the best pub meal we've had for some time. Will be coming back regularly.

Great pub and cracking food. Really accomodating and a good selection of gluten free options.. especially the pudding gravy. Ask the manager if you want to know what that is :) Staff and locals all very friendly, especially if you have a dog! Definitely recommend this place.

Always enjoy coming here. Had the sharing platter which was nice but I think could have been better priced at £18 approx rather than £25 wasn't value for money. But very tasty

We had a fantastic meal , all the staff are friendly, very polite and helpful The meal was beautiful, hot and well presented. There is a lovely atmosphere and the gardens outside are really nice. The menu has something for everyone and the price is very reasonable and the quality and quantity is the best by far. I would highly recommend this for dining out and will definitely be going back.

Definitely the best Sunday dinner I’ve had in a long time. Went for Mother’s Day & everyone enjoyed it. Even better that there’s small, medium & large size options.

Called in after been let down by our chosen destination, the booking manager managed to find room for us here, but also checked another venue just incase. Food was good, venue very busy which is down to the service and quality of food.

Nice pub, lovely home made steak pie with proper pastry, not that puffy flaky stuff, plus great chips. Will be going back just for the pie, wife really enjoyed here chicken dish.

A traditional English country pub with a warm welcome, excellent food and beverage choice and excellent value for money. I will definitely return to try more of their delicious food.

The Sunday roast was ok at best, let's say it's worth what you pay, almost. Let down by service, waiting so long for the dessert menu and to order dessert. It's not like we asked for a lot of attention so sadly disappointed.

Delicious Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings.

Great atmosphere at a lunch time visit. Enjoyed the sharing board between friends. Only downside was the coffee machine didn't do decaffeinated it was instant.

I'm not one for roast dinners tbh, but I enjoyed it, the only thing I would say is if you don't like gravy ( like me) then ask them not to put it on your dinner, otherwise it was nice, friendly polite staff, nice inside the pub, we will go back

We went as a family of six, three children under 10 for Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere friendly and polite staff.Very generous portions great value for money. The food was well presented and very tasty 10 out of 10 guys. We'll definitely be back thank you👍👍👍👍

Bit of a longer wait for service than satisfactory. Plate presentation unattractive and could have been hotter. Meat delicious, generous portions of vegetables.

Stopped to have a meal here. The food was cooked to order but didn't have to wait that long even though it was quite busy. The food was presented nicely and it tasted great will be going back soon.

Best pint of Timothy Taylors I've had in a long time. Light lunch was good and value for money. Waitress extremely friendly and helpful.

Nice location but the food was a bit underwhelming.

I've past the pilgrim fathers on many occasions and never called in but, I'm glad eventually we did what a gem.. A great pub, the staff friendly and helpful, And best of all, the food was fantastic.

3 stars seems a bit mean as the food was fine, but unfortunately having to wait over an hour for it when the pub seemed relatively quiet (5.30pm)was a bit much, I mentioned it to the young lady at the bar as we left but she didn't appear to be interested.

Called in for our tea, all 3 of us had different meals and all 3 cleared their plates, my Rump steak was possibly the best steak I've ever had, cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and friendly without being over the top, would definitely go back.
