Weâve visited The Punch Bowl many times, as itâs just 10 minutes away from us, and itâs always been a nice pub in the past. Unfortunately, something has changed, and itâs not for the better. Upon arrival, we were met with stares from the locals, almost as if we were being judged on whether we were âworthyâ of being there. Despite having made a reservation, we were seated at a cramped table in the corner, right by the serving door, which was kicked open into my chair. The table had originally been set for three, but it was hard to see how it wouldâve worked comfortably for any diner being so close to the door. There were other tables available, including one with just young children at it, so it felt unnecessary to place us where we were. The food was okay, but it no longer felt like good value for the price. Additionally, we were charged for a drink we didnât order, though it was promptly removed when we pointed it out. All in all, this community pub no longer lives up to what it once was.

Big problem the locals were all standing around the bar so you could not get through to order a drink, even a polite excuse me had no effect so just pushed through. The barman wished he was somewhere else. Pity he did not value people who wanted to use his establishment,

Had a full afternoon tea here and it was absolutely fantastic! So many delicious homemade savouries, quiche, sausage roll, vol au vents as well as delicious sandwiches with the freshest bread. Gorgeous scones and lots of scrummy cakes as well. Lovely friendly staff too. This is a real treat - Highly recommended.

We stayed a couple of doors down from this bakery and visited for breakfast on our last day. All six of us agreed that it was superb. Quality ingredients, cooked to perfection with no grease at all and really reasonably priced too. You need to book as itâs get busy and itâs a small venue but we will definitely go back. The staff were also super helpful and the service was great.

Used to go in when was the Globe, 1st time since realising it was the red lion. Food was lovely Couple of tweaks and would be 5 outa 5 for everything. Attention to detail, mindful that the hot plate for carvery doesn't keep the meat hot hot, Had to ask for dessert order to be taken. After being asked if we wanted dessert The waiting team were friendly polite. We will be back again.

4 of us went for lunch on a Thursday. Staff were attentive and service was swift. Cosy and friendly place. All the food was freshly prepared and excellent in presentation and taste. Special mention for the pork loin special. It was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious and light. Reasonably priced and good value. Will be back more often.

I have been here on numerous occasions when visiting this part of Scotland, I have written a review about Loch Arthur before, but do you know what, when a place is good then why not praise it again. As usual the cafe and shop are well organised with plenty of freshly made foods as well as freshly home grown vegetables and fruit, not forgetting the locally handcrafted goods. The whole place is immaculately clean. The cafe serves amazing home cooked food, do try their soups, they are just scrumptious. The staff whether in the cafe or shop are courteous, smiling, friendly and willing to help. Too good to be true, NO, this place is amazing, if I were able, I would move near there to be able to go more often.
