Frequently visited this establishment in 2004 when it was a small farm shop , it expanded and rebuilt 12 years ago and remains a hidden gem in Dumfries . Has a great ethos, the food is superb, the staff at all just delightful and the farm shop has the most amazing produce . Not to be missed if you are in the area or just worth a special trip .

We visited Loch Arthur Farmshop/cafe at Beeswick for some lunch. The place was clean and well kept. Everything on the menu is homegrown and produced on their farm. I had Mediterranean vegetable and tomato soup, to die for, it was so tasteful, this was followed by a salmon and cream cheese sandwich on Loch Arthur’s bread, this certainly had plenty of salmon in, tasteful. My friend had a burger with salad, again this was extremely tasteful, she asked for a little more dressing for the salad, this was nicely produced in a little jug, the recipe for this is “kept in the kitchen”, pity as she would have readily bought some. The waiter was attentive and informative, certainly a place we will be visiting again in this week we have away.

What a great find! Such good food, all made in-house, my partner and I both had quiche and salad with a bowl of seasoned wedges to share. Two slices of quiche each and a lovely mixed salad, really tasty although we would have ordered a small portion of wedges if we had known how big the sharing portion was. Very kindly they were able to box up the wedges for us to bring home. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely, no wifi, so everyone was chatting. Good value for money and we are going to try and squeeze in another visit before we head back to England.

called in for our first visit while passing and we were in time for breakfast - we both had the french toast, which was delicious and very tasty. Bottomless filter coffee was very good. Had a walk round the shop and bought a few luxurious bits of food and drink - all the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food and drink choices were extensive. The goods in the shop were really great - bought some amazing bread and fruit juices - we left, vowing that this won't be our last visit. Sat outside on the nature-tastic picnic benches with our dog.

Visited having seen review by The Hairy Bikers. There is a lovely farm shop with a wide range of produce, much of it local. We had tea and fabulous gluten free cakes. We chose to sit outside because we had our dogs with us and they are only allowed in the garden area. All the staff we spoke to were really friendly and helpful. And that is exactly what you get at Loch Arthur - glorious food !! Firstly there is the cafe. This is spacious with an outside area. There are no pretensions about this place, it is minimalist, in a good way, plenty of spaces between tables. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The food is all cooked/baked on the premises and is delicious. We always try to visit the cafe whenever we are in the area and my current favourite choice for lunch is Salmon and Vegetable Quiche. And then there's the shop ! Mostly organic, with a large range of products, many of which are not readily available elsewhere. As well as vegetables, lots of which are home grown, there is a butchery counter, again selling home grown produce, and an in house bakery, fresh milk and cheeses, again many of which are home produced. In addition, there are all the other items you need on a food shop, as well as household products and alcohol. As in the shop, the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We always enjoy our trips to Loch Arthur

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The café and shop is located just off the road between Dumfries and Dalbeattie and has plenty of onsite parking. Accessibility is good for those visitors who are less able. I’m a fairly regular visitor to Dumfries and have side-tracked for lunch a couple of times this year as the food and service is reliably good. Despite the café having a fairly large open plan area it has been busy on both occasions probably testimony to its popularity even in its rural location. On a solo visit earlier this year I shared a large table with a couple of ladies, with their agreement, as there were no other available indoor options and the weather wasn‘t great outside. On that occasion I had a smoked salmon open sandwich served with salad, a flat white coffee and a piece of carrot cake all of which were delicious and cost just over £14. On a more recent visit, accompanied by my wife, we both opted for their chicken and leek pie which was served with new potatoes and vegetables (£8.95). Needless to say we had to have coffee and cake as the coffee is good and there is a tempting selection of cakes on display at the counter. My wife tried an unusual combination of Banana & Chocolate Chip cake (£2.80) and I had Orange cake (£2.60) both of which were tasty. The menu covers breakfast and lunch items with the likes of porridge, cheese omelette and French Toast featuring on the former and soup, sandwiches, burgers, macaroni, homemade pies and quiche on the latter. There is not a large selection but personally I have always found something to suit. In my experience service is with a smile and items are brought to the table in a timely fashion. In better weather there is an option to eat outside in the grounds, a popular choice especially with those accompanied by their dogs as these are not permitted in the café itself. Toilets are clean and it is worth a browse around the shop which has a good selection of organic products. Easy to recommend.

On holiday in the area with another couple visited and stopped for lunch. Firstly the retail shop is just fantastic with a huge range of food from beautiful vedge and salads to meat, poultry, cheese and freshly baked products. Additionally there was a huge range of dry goods, deli products, wine, beers and crafts and eco cleaning products. All seemed very good value in comparison to many farm shops I have visited and consequently we bought quite a lot of things and all proved later to be excellent quality. We also stayed for lunch, it’s popular and you may have a little wait although if you choose to share a table or eat outside then generally you wont have to wait. Staff are pleasant and chatty while waiting to seat you. Our lunch was absolutely delicious and all freshly cooked. Some things obviously sell out quickly but this is made clear on the menu board. You may have a little wait for your food at busy times but this is not fast food and you can be reassured it’s worth the wait. All food is sourced in house and all made, cooked and baked on the premises. I thought the food was very good value with lunch for four and including ( delicious) coffee and teas was approx £30. Service was superb. I would certainly visit again and next time we stay self catering in the area we will take the opportunity to stock up on food from here for are stay rather than the supermarket. Finally while you wait for your food or drinks I would take the opportunity to read up on the back of the menu about the ethos of the place which apart from being interesting is also admirable.

Had to wait 10 mins for table which wasn’t an issue as we could watch the birds in the garden. Nice menu, homemade and fresh and unlike some places that say that this food definitely was. Menu option and specials, most produce local and made in the village etc. Anyway 2 teas, 2 fentimans drinks, 1 large soup n sandwich, 1 special mince round, 1 charcuterie and 1 special blue cheese salad = £41. I dropped in here recently for a tea and some cake with my elderly mother. There are several parking spaces for less able customers close to the entrance so that was welcome and I know from a previous visit that the disabled toilet is spacious and easy to access. This was our first use of any hospitality since Covid-19 measures were introduced and I was quite impressed by how well it was organised. The cafe entrance is now separate from the shop and a suitable path has been laid around the outside of the building leading to the garden. There is hand sanitiser to apply and benches and tables are well spaced in the grounds. It was a very sunny day so quite pleasant to sit outside and many were doing so. Each bench/table has a number and you just provide that to staff when ordering inside (mask required). There were a few guests indoors, although again well distanced. Contactless payment. The order was delivered to our bench and we were asked just to leave the dishes on the tray when we finished and it would be collected.Nice pot of tea each and we shared a delicious slice of orange sponge.Staff pleasant and peaceful setting to enjoy our short break.

We love this place. We were coming on holiday to Galloway and I'd seen it as a possible farm shop for supplies. But it was also suggested by the people running our holiday cottage. So we made a point of stopping before we got to the cottage to pick up some pre-ordered meat and other supplies. We stayed for coffee. Then came back for another lot of supplies the following Friday for our second week. Coffee again. Then came a third time to get some goodies to take home as well as have breakfast on our last day. It's a fantastic charitable enterprise but the produce from the farm shop is really excellent. Very high quality, largely free range and/or organic. The cheeses are a superb choice with lots of Scottish options including their own amazing farmhouse cheese. Lots of other great produce including veg, much of it from their own farm. Plus they have an arrangement with a fishmonger who is there on Fridays. The cafe is a lovely spot. No dogs indoors but a lovely garden and some sheltered tables if it's raining. It's clearly very popular with locals as well as visitors. And they obviously think highly of their staff and customers with some first class Covid procedures. We loved it so much we made a donation to their charity for the great work they do.

We went here as my husband had been here before and said it was great.Incidentally it was our wedding anniversary.Firstly the positives-the staff were friendly and the tables were clean. We were seated as soon as a table became available and they took our order-so far so good. The food was not good-we had chicken and sweetcorn soup which was basically water with no sign of any chicken and one kernel of sweetcorn.I then had a roast beef sandwich which was very fatty. It also had gherkins on which was bizarre, especially as it had no mustard and none was offered.Trying to get the attention of a waitress to order dessert and coffee was very difficult. After 15 minutes we managed to flag one down and ordered. Then she totally forgot about us so 20 minutes later my husband asked about our order and she hadn't even put it through as they were busy!By this time i had had enough,I am in a half leg cast and could no longer bear to sit and wait so we just went without. At the checkout we voiced our complaints and they gave us a couple of complimentary biscuits as if that would make up for the fiasco. We won't be returning.

Our first time at this cafe. We missed the 'please wait here to be seated' sign but that didn't seem to cause a problem. It was busy, but people seemed to be happy to share tables. Service was efficient, and with a smile, and nothing seemed too much trouble. Quality of food was great, and we are about to try re-creating the soup - but don't think we will get it quite as good somehow. Thank you for a nice lunch, ambience, and lovely location.

Great coffee and wonderful food. Staff very friendly, gluten free products bake in own onsite bakery including fantastic gluten free bread which my husband had and which we bought freshly made to take home with us. The cheese section in the shop has a fantastic choice and very knowledgeable staff. The toilets are as you expect exceptionally clean too. they also have accessible toilets for disabled persons. Wish we had found this beautiful place at the start of our holiday then we could have visited more often

Fresh food, nice staff with knowledge of the products. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. However, NO cream and so many cakes. Weak coffee. We tried it as it's local and believe in keeping it local, but it's just not for us.

We went for lunch and were a bit disappointed by the lack of vegan fare on offer. When the food arrived the portions were small but the food was OK. Nice place to visit and the shop has many interesting things. Service was OK but not warm and welcoming as I would have hoped given people had said what a nice place it was.

I often meet friend’s here for lunch. They specialize in home made soups which are a wee bit different from the norm. The food is freshly prepared on premises & the staff are always very pleasant. Perhaps not a vast choice of menu, but always something suitable whether vegetarian or not. The shop too, is very nice to look round - it has lovely fresh food and some unusual produce.

The milk was lumpy. It was explained that it was unprocessed milk. We found it entirely off putting and could not drink tea. It completely spoiled it for us. Who wants lumpy milk? Won't be returning.

This is a really wonderful place and everyone is so friendly and warm. The farm shop is extremely well stocked and has a huge range that’s beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. The cafe is spotless and very tastefully furnished. Overlooking its quiet and peaceful surroundings, it has such a lovely ambience. And the food is out of this world!

Be prepared to wait a little because the food is fresh and beautifully presented. It's a light lunch, cake and coffee wide variety of herbal teas and other drinks place (or a late breakfast/brunch stop). Every penny you spend supports the Loch Arthur community. We enjoy a visit to Loch Arthur. Can be very busy at lunchtime, but food is tasty and freshly prepared. We had an afternoon coffee + cake this time. Service is friendly, and the cakes are great. Carrot cake and coffee cake were our choices this time - delicious, big slices and not overpriced. The toilets are clean, and the shop sells a variety of tempting products. We bought the Victoria plum jam and Loch Arthur’s own orange and chocolate biscuits which are really yummy. Lots of healthy foodstuffs, toiletries and household items on sale. Definitely worth a visit.

Loch Arthur sits in the Dumfries countryside at Beeswing. It is a residential community including those with learning disabilities. It has its own farm and market garden which provides some of the food on sale and served in the tea room. Other food comes from the local area and further afield with all of it being organic. It also provides other goods for people living in the area.

Being local, I often drive out to the cafe because it's worth the effort to get fresh, tasty food and brilliant service. Sometimes it's a wee bit slow when busy, but hey, that's art of the charm. I buy a lot of food gifts as well as fantastic meat and cheese for us in the shop and have used the gift order service to send fantastic gifts to my family and friends all over the country. The staff are dedicated and friendly. The surroundings beautiful and your money is going to support the most amazing community. What's not to like?

Absolutely gutted to find this place had ceased trading, since our last visit in August 22. This hidden gem was part of our journey down south for the past 7 years, after stumbling on it by accident. It offered a hearty meal for a fraction of the price they charge, at a service station

Popped in for a Sunday Guinness to find everyone tucking into ENORMOUS Yorkshire puddings stuffed with braised beef, roast spuds, veg and gravy. We succumbed to the glorious smell of the food and it beat us, hands down, great food, great service. The two girls working in there are gold dust, give them a raise!!

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

This cafe has a really distinctive menu for its size with a choice of meat- fish- and plant-based dishes. They were extremely attentive to a very unusual dietary issue which involved them adapting several elements of one of their menu items. Both waiter and chef spoke to me before we settled on a dish. This was all handled in really friendly manner.
