Riverbank Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

Lovely little cafe on the upper floor of the old building. There are photos in the stairwell showing how the building was converted to its current use. Friendly staff serve a wide range of teas and decent coffees and a load of different pastries and lunches. Masses of parking opposite.

Friendly staff well cooked food, always busy

Popped in for breakfast after finding this café on a walk through the town. Friendly welcome and could tell it was a popular café due to the comings & goings. Full Scottish breakfast available all-day and great variety of meals, both breakfast, brunch and lunch options. Freshly made cakes were abundant and scones with coffee machine and large pots of tea. Bacon roll was great size and crispy fresh bacon. Had to try a homemade cake - mars bar cake was melt in the mouth and crispy and gooey (just how it should be) - better than Mimis Bakehouse chocolate crispy cake!!

We picked The Riverbank restaurant because of the reviews and we are pleased we went here, some of us had the all day breakfast which was filling and very tasty, the service overall was brilliant, highly recommend.

Lovely cafe near Sainsbury's and the Riverside car park. I was there not long after opening on Sat AM, and had a really good breakfast sarnie and Mochacinno (feeling fancy!). The staff were also friendly and helpful, which is always a plus!

We stopped at Newton Stewart on the way to the ferry at Cairn Ryan. We parked then crossed over and seen The Riverbank.It was lovely. There was four of us.The menu was very good and had a good choice.I just took a fruit scone with butter and jam and tea.The other three took an actual lunch. The Staff were lovely. We all enjoyed our lunch and would recommend it.

There is no brown roll option at 10.30 am. Waitress brought tea pot to table and spilt the hot liquid all over the table. Not the friendliest welcome. Food bland. Disappointing visit all round.

We found this gem of a place while travelling to get the ferry to Belfast. The soup of the day was delicious. Coffee and empire biscuits lovely.

We were very glad that we found this place for lunch, everything we had was delicious. This place looked like the only busy place at lunchtime and we were able to get seated immediately. Good service, good food and reasonable prices make this a good choice for lunch.

Thanks to a referral from the lovely ladies at the Newton Stewart Post Office, we have eaten two delicious lunches at The Riverbank. Good portions, crispy, hot chips (fries to us from the U.S.) and fresh ingredients. Best cup of coffee I've had in the U.K. in our trip so far, and I'm a coffee lover! Would recommend The Riverbank to anyone visiting Newton Stewart.

A wonderful café in Newton Stewart. It offers all you could wish for when visiting the area, whether you just want a coffee or something more. My wife and I enjoyed coffee and cake, which were lovely.

Lovely upstairs venue by the Riverside. Good parking options, just off the high street and near Sainsbury's and Aldi. Food was lovely, I had the ultimate combo which was tasty, my wife had the quiche which she said was the best she's had, and 2 kids meals. Tea and hot chocolates were good. Desserts excellent! The service was outstanding, super friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to give us a really positive experience from start to finish. And all for very good value. We had arrived late but were welcomed, not hurried, and were able to take chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding (wow!) away with us. Recommended.

Popped in with my partner for a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately both of us agreed that 8.50 for a roll or 11.50 for a vegan burger wasn't a very good idea. Something we mentioned to the server who replied that they are very big portions... A cup of..poor coffee and a can of coke later we left. Another example of what is becoming more common. Please justify the prices because to me this seems little more than a blatant exercise in profiteering. The days of a reasonably priced cafe offering reasonable food are gone. I feel for the staff who are at the front line of what appears to be happening.

Popped into this café again, new owners I believe, just as great at the last ones, excellent staff and food, we only had a snack i.e. bacon roll, just as good as always.

Great experience as a group of 8 (4 adults, 4 children) for a late lunch. Service was very attentive and thoughtful, good range of choices, our food was delicious (soup, panini, burgers etc plus good selection of tray bakes, cakes & scones), and restaurant clean, bright and well set up. Also very reasonably priced. Would recommend.

We popped in for lunch as we knew it was dog friendly from our last visit. We didn't realise that they don't usually allow dogs between 12 and 2 but as there was space they said we could stay which was really kind of them. Had a nice lunch and again the team there are so nice, it's definitely worth a visit.

This cafe was an unexpected find on bank holiday Monday. The staff were really lovely and helpful and the food was perfect. I have walked past it so many times and not realised it was there but I will definitely be going back.

Splendid all round riverbank combo is a must to try, can get busy at times, may have to wait but the food is worth it. Always try to get in here when we are in the area, great place.

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime when some other local cafes were closed in Newton Stewart. The cafe was spotless, the food was good, prices reasonable and staff friendly. Busy when we visited, but good atmosphere. Note, the restaurant is up stairs on the first floor, with no obvious disabled access.

Very poor.All day breakfast asked for hard egg and white was still soft never mind the yoke.Obviously didn’t listen.Ham and cheese melt was warm and the cheese was missing.Glasses for drinks were dirty.Staff to busy laughing and carrying on. Paying for food you expect good food and good service unfortunately didn’t get either. Won’t be back…

While on holiday in the local area I popped in to the Riverbank for a spot of lunch. The restaurant was quite busy, with a lot of the customers appearing to be locals - judging by the welcoming from the staff. The restaurant was nice and clean, and had a nice feel about it. There was a nice choice on the menu. The food was delicious and arrived in good time. The coffee (Flat White) was excellent, which was a surprise as a lot of restaurants and cafes seem to struggle to make good ones. The prices were very reasonable. All in all, a very nice restaurant. I shall return next year when I am in the area.

Food was very good, excellent soup and dessert option. Service good, price is okay but at the upper level, though it's hard to tell as everyone is having to cope with higher prices after covid.

It's ages since I was last here, but just as good as I remembered. Very nice food, lovely staff and delicious cake!

The riverbank is a very busy cafe . Has a varied menu. Everything we have had from here has been lovely. Only fault for myself was that there are some steep steps . I needed help! This is just a personal comment though.

tea room with restraint prices. Found some of the staff rude. There was no chicken wings for the combo meal - offered no apology or substitute.

Good food and coffee, not too pricey and I would go again.
