Red Lion in Calderdale

Used to go in when was the Globe, 1st time since realising it was the red lion. Food was lovely Couple of tweaks and would be 5 outa 5 for everything. Attention to detail, mindful that the hot plate for carvery doesn't keep the meat hot hot, Had to ask for dessert order to be taken. After being asked if we wanted dessert The waiting team were friendly polite. We will be back again.

Just been for the fishy Friday, absolutely amazing best fish and chips I've had in a long time and at £8.50 what a bargain, food is always amazing, , the pub is amazing, great atmosphere, amazing staff elise is brilliant nothing was too much bother, she really looked after us, and the landlady Anne Marie has done amazing since taking over, annemarie and her team have done an amazing job, we 100% recommend, best food best atmosphere amazing beer garden,

Brilliant Bank Holiday Breakfast! Would recommend they do breakfasts more often 😊 everything was just perfect 👌 This pub is brilliant, as a solo female customer new to the brighouse area, I wanted a place to go to, for food and conversation and a couple of beers. The staff all made me feel welcome to the point, I now don't feel nervous going in ANYMORE. 😍

Came for carvery it was amazing and very fresh food was outstanding enjoyed every mouthful and the cocktails were out of this world staff were amazing too

Stopped by The Red Lion in Brighouse and had a really enjoyable meal. I went for the gammon and egg with homemade chips—absolute classic and done really well. The gammon was thick and tasty, the egg perfectly cooked, and the homemade chips were full of flavor. You can always tell when they’re made fresh. Also tried the No Tomato Sauce Lasagna, which was a nice twist on the usual. It wasn’t creamy, but had its own unique flavor—hearty, cheesy, and well-balanced. Came with a generous portion of garlic bread and we added a side of skinny fries too, which were just right—light, crisp, and not greasy. Service was excellent throughout—friendly, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. It's clear the team takes pride in what they do. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Brighouse and fancy some solid pub grub with great hospitality!

We came for mothers day and the food was amazing the staff were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and were so nice and gave us a warm and friendly greeting when we arrived we definitely recommend a visit,we will be back if we could we would put 10/10

Wow, is all I can say about this place! Food was outstandingly good! High five to the chef, all staff was very attentive and friendly, they went above and beyond! Honestly best carvery we have had in a long time! Thank you red lion

When we first visited we had an excellent Sunday carvery and couldn't fault it. The second time we went the vegetables were served cold, the meat was over cooked and were barely given slices because the lady behind the counter cut it that thin it crumbled into bits then she went on to scrape all the bits up and served to our plates. The desserts were poor served with lumpy powered custard. Such a shame as our first experience was so positive. It has unfortunately put us off returning.

We were looking forward to eating here after reading positive reviews online. We couldn’t have been more disappointed. From a lukewarm welcome when we arrived, to lacklustre service throughout the meal and poor quality of food. When we commented on the limited menu, including no children’s menu and only one vegetarian option, plus all of us being issued with children’s cutlery, the response initially was defensive and abrupt and it would appear we were then deemed ‘difficult customers.’ No warmth was shown, no smiles or asking how our meals were. Any communication from then on seemed passive aggressive or insincere. We discussed leaving as soon as we arrived as were not made to feel welcome at all. The only reason we didn’t is because it was Mother’s Day and we were unlikely to find a table anywhere else. We weren’t able to easily access a menu prior to booking. If we were and had seen how limited it was, we would not have booked. Whilst they made an effort to supply an alternative option for vegetarians (basically a larger portion of the starter) and made some vegetarian gravy which was appreciated, the carvery for the non vegetarians was disappointing. Roast potatoes and carrots were not cooked properly, beef looked extremely dry, drinks were expensive. Whilst the food was a let down, the biggest disappointment was the service, with the exception of two younger girls who seemed pleasant. The two older women who served us were unwelcoming, and seemed disingenuous. They knew we were not happy and rather than approaching us to ask how our meal was they avoided coming over but seemed happy to talk about us to each other, as was overheard as we approached to use the restroom. When they did offer ‘pleasantries’ it came across as inauthentic or sarcastic. I would imagine any response to negative comments such as these will also be defensive and lacking self awareness. Seriously lacking attention to detail. Even the menus have typos, for example ‘deserts’ instead of ‘desserts.’ Would whole heartedly not recommend

We’ve been here on numerous occasions, we booked in for Mother’s Day with our mum, a very warm welcome, there was a little delay on our table which was expected with how busy we could see they were however they apologised when they took us to our table and this was also made up with how attentive all the staff were even though they were so busy. As always the food was amazing. I honestly could not recommend anywhere else locally better to eat.

My new local, and what a local to have! Eaten a few times and food has been fantastic every time, looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch soon! As for the bar, great selection of drinks, very reasonably priced and all the entertainment you need. Live sports, pool table + dart board. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

A family Sunday lunch today for 3 ravenous adults, and we were not disappointed..! 2 courses for £15 I opted for a starter and Carvery, all top quality food, The meat is sourced from a local butcher and was all top notch, The staff are very pleasant and attentive, and the drinks are reasonably priced ..! A good selection of vegetables that are brought to your table, the Battered cauliflower was a massive hit with us..! We will certainly be back..!

Wow what a pub. Amazing fish and such good value! Food is delicious, chicken skewers were also lovely, and bonus it has a dart board.

We attended on Saturday for lunch with my Dad who is 86 and his mobility is poor and the staff and customers couldn’t have been more helpful, we also had my 7 year old granddaughter with us and the staff were lovely with her too, the food was all fresh and really tasty we will definitely be going again! Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

A tight menu done very well indeed. There’s definitely someone out the back there who knows how to cook. Service couldn’t be better, and as welcoming as could be. Definitely ticking all the boxes, we will be back again.

Warm and welcoming pub with small but varied menu. Staff at pub were professional and very friendly. Fish and chips and gammon meal-amazing quality food-all home made and you can tell! Very generous portions. The chips were amazing! Will definitely be back! Thank you.

Went for new years eve the food was amazing, Roxanne and annemarie absolutely smashed it, amazing atmosphere, loved that they joined in with the dancing and made sure we was all having a good night, highly recommended

Seven people and one dog booked in at The Red Lion, we ordered from the Christmas menu and wasn't disappointed with the food, the service was excellent and a really good atmosphere, they also had a menu for the dog. Would definitely recommend a visit and we will be going back in the new year

We had a meal this evening and were thoroughly impressed. The waitress was absolutely lovely, the food was exceptional, and they warmly welcomed our little dog Toby, which made the experience even more special. We will most certainly be returning in the future! ❤️

Amazing Sunday Roast Carvery. Biggest in Calderdale and veg selection per table

Cracking boozer with good ales and great atmosphere. Didn't eat but my mates did and no issues. Plenty of tvs for sport and homely feel. Also get a little loyalty card for a discount.

Spent the last 2 Friday night's here such a great pub, very welcoming a fabulous atmosphere, great selection of drinks and the lovely ladies serving are a credit to the pub. Efficient and very friendly. Only eaten the curry here so far and tbh it's one of the best curry's ive had and I can't wait to try the selection meals on the menu. Best pub in brighouse by far.

Easily accessible carpark, all the staff were welcoming and attentive. Nice and clean, inside and out. Sharp cutlery (annoys me greatly when you go somewhere and the cutlery is blunt) Extensive menu and choice, catering for vegetarians too. Great range of drinks. Quick service and not waiting long in between courses. I had the prawnography (WOW!) imagine the best prawn cocktail of your life, dress it up in a fancy costume, sprinkle it with a bit of magic and there you have the best starter I have ever tasted! It was delicious! Then I had the Sunday carvery, great choice of vegetables, stuffing, yorkies, crackling, proper pigs in blankets, the meat was bang on, I had the gammon, roasted to perfection with a sticky glaze. Too full for pudding unfortunately! This establishment has now gone into our top 3 local favourites! We will be back!

OMG it was amazing Sunday lunch the staff were lovely and attentive nothing too much trouble and we were a party of 12 plenty of every thing veg meat and sauces only thing I would say no need for ratatouille for a Sunday lunch unless you ask for it. Cliaflora cheese was stated on menu but was not available.

We went today for the first time and it was great! The service was very quick and efficient and a special mention to Ellie she was fab! The carvery was great the portions were huge and we loved that the sides came out separately and our son really enjoyed the kids meal again this was a big portion. We highly recommend and we will defintely be back especially as this is now our local pub! Thank you so much!

I've been looking forward to sampling the food at The Red Lion and it did not disappoint. Met up with my friend for a girly midweek catch up. We ordered the Chicken Kiev and the Miss Piggy Burger. Both meals were so good. We did manage to squeeze in the Biscoff Cheesecake. Another homemade absolute winner. I can't wait to come back for the Sunday lunch 10out of 10!!

Food was delicious. Me and partner ended up here after seeing amazing comments on Facebook. We thought why not give it a try. We had a hanging bbq chicken and 10oz sirloin steak both cooked to perfection, by the way love the English onion bhaji. We had biscoff cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding to finish. Service was excellent. I real nice surprise and will visit again and highly reccomend to others

First time here. Food was lovely, reasonably priced, excellent friendly service and when I asked about vegan options for my daughter and son in law they are happy to oblige even if it is not on the menu.

Glad to see it back running as it should. Sunday dinner carvery l was immense. Decent beer on. Even managed to fit us in even though we'd just turned up on the off chance. Would recommend booking on a Sunday. Brilliant value. Very happy.

We was going to go to Toby cavery but thought we would try the red lion instead. We wasn't disappointed at all. The question now is Toby who?? This has them beat hands down. Lovely food fantastic atmosphere and very attentive staff. Will definitely be eating here more often and a bonus is no washing up 😁

AMAZED! We’re here from Melbourne visiting family and this pub is just across the road from where we’re staying. I’m pleased to say that our group of 5 were all absolutely over the moon with our experience at The Red Lion! The food was perfect and exceeded expectations, the service was fast, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful :) I only managed to snap a picture of my dessert (Sticky Toffee Pudding) but I guarantee you’re in for a treat and an excellent evening! (We even got toothpicks and some little chocolates with our bill! How thoughtful) 10/10 would recommend. We’ll certainly be back next time we’re here! :)

First time there ,waited ages for food ,loads of chips not much scampi and soggy veg.Grandson had gammon which we took home for dog .Young staff that just didnt seem to be coping well. Bonus puddings were nice

Called in for drinks Friday tea was planning on having food but only stayed for one drink the language from the drinkers in the bar was appalling f ing this f ing that bar lady was stud listening to the lads swearing and said nothing won’t be calling in here again this place has gone down hill

Got treat like royalty as always and the food was again absolutely divine. Compliments again on the food and the service. Waitress is sooo lovely. Even got a complimentary bunch of flowers for mothers day. Lovely sentiments thanks again!!

Friendly service, good food. We had the Sunday lunch menu, good quality, value for money. Scampi was a bit over cooked, but the belly pork with crispy crackling and beef were succulent.

I want to give you feedback on how you ruined XMAS day. We came in October to see our friend who said you were doing XMAS dinner so we asked to see the menu. The Chef, a large guy, came out and gave us a menu and told us it was 7 courses for £70. With me being vegetarian the menu fitted in with my dietary requirement. We agreed to leave a £60 deposit which we paid for by cash and we were given a small receipt which simply said XMAS DINNER £60 DEPOSIT PAID and a copy of the said menu we still have these. We then called back into the pub in early December for a drink and we asked you to confirm that we were booked in. There was a lady with blonde hair and a guy with black hair behind the bar who explained all was booked in and showed us the booking in the book. At that point we were told could we send over our menu choices in a week or so for the meal. I phoned about a week later to give our choices and at that point the lady on the phone abruptly told her she is too busy and told to come down with the choices, which was a bit rude. I was busy myself so i sent our choices on Facebook messenger. The reply was “we are busy, we have a funeral on” and then 2 hours later we were asked AGAIN for our choices(PORK LOIN & AUBERGINE). Five days later on the 22nd of December we received another message this time saying the menu we were given was a old menu(EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS 2021) and could we make another choice just 3 days before the meal. The new menu had less courses and was now £65 not £70 which was not as good value on top of this there was no Aubergine or Pork options and I didn’t like the other Vegetarian options. After speaking to my husband I didn’t want to pay all that money for a meal I wasn’t going to like as the options were not suitable for me On the 22nd of December we asked to cancel and collect our deposit the reply came back to say “yes no problem”. Then an hour or so after we received a further message say you would now NOT give us our money back “as the food had already been allocated and purchased” but this could not be the case as the food we ordered was not on the current menu so you obviously had ordered our food in. We responded to explain again the menu was wrong and we don’t like the new menu 3 days before Xmas day. I would love to publish the whole saga but unfortunately Google on let you post so many words! The Red lion then came back to us saying and I quote! “ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD” & “CRACK ON! EVERYONE ELSE HAS CHANGED NO PROBLEM” “!YOU WILL BE THE PEOPLE AT XMAS WHO COMPLAIN SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY” Then they said Everyone else has changed??? You said you had never seen the menu we were given so why have other people changed their menu choices!!! I smell a rat…. I contacted the pub and spoke to dan who I presume is the manger and was told I could collect my deposit but every time I went around he was conveniently not around so I wasted my time on a number of occasions. Overall its just been a horrible experience over the Xmas period. We had to find somewhere else for our xmas dinner at short notice we were messed around something shocking plus £60 out of pocket.

Lived in the area a few years now and I’ve always walked past but today I decided to treat my parents to a meal the settings were ideal the service was spot on the food was just right also added a desert - Definitely coming back thank you

3 of us went for early bird menu. Good choice and very good portion size. Really enjoyed our meals. Waiting Staff a bit slow but they were new to it. Landlady couldn't do enough for us. Will go again

We arrived early for our booking so it was suggested we wait in the bar area -really wish we didn't have to . The bar was scruffy, freezing cold and full of loud, dodgy looking characters. Felt really uncomfortable though the serving staff were friendly. However, through to the restaurant in the conservatory and what a difference. Heating on for one thing and the food was lovely and hot and reasonably priced. Its a shame our party of 8 were the only ones in there - though it was a Thursday evening- it didn't make for much of an atmosphere. I wonder if its the horrible bar that puts people off - it certainly did for me. Such a shame,

Had a really nice time at the Red Lion 🦁 Mel the landlady is a really nice and chatty young lady, I had a mixed grill which was plenty full my wife had the steak and ale pie which again was plenty, my only complaint was the gammon was dry but all things considered a great night was had, thanks Mel you made us feel welcome👍👍🍾🇬🇧

Have just visited this pub for a meal to celebrate my son-in-laws birthday. The food was very good, freshly prepared and well presented. Prices were very reasonable and the waitress friendly and polite.

They have recently changed chef and menu and in our opinion not for the better. Been here before under the previous chef and thought it was excellent but this was not great. The menu was not at all inspiring but was clearly just taken from their old pub as it still had the name of the old pub at the bottom! The food was not great, not up to previous standards. The service was really good other than few and far between. We won’t be going back any time soon.

Food was not good, everything had been pre-cooked then warmed up, mashed potatoes were tasteless and quite honestly looked like slop! Yorkshire Puddings were soggy and the veg was over cooked the only positive thing I can say is the Roast Turkey was lovely. We opted not to have a starter and from placing our order the food was delivered to us in less than 5 minutes so I think that says everything! On top of all that was the rock and heavy metal music playing in the background……. We have eaten here on several occasions and the food has never disappointed so not sure if someone was having a bad day in the kitchen but certainly won’t be rushing back! We would normally have 3 to 4 drinks each but it was so rushed we only had time for 2, not a nice relaxing Sunday afternoon that we are used to…….
