Wish this was our local. Warm welcome great beer and lovely atmosphere. Lovely beer garden for sunny days. Nice traditional pub. Try the port wine challenge! Only stayed for a couple of drinks but wish we had more time could have stayed all afternoon! Proper Yorkshire pub.

The wake for a young family man who was born, grew up & who’s family/friends still live in the village/area & was the pub he was a regular before he had children. Pub opened up for it earlier than their usual opening times as it started at lunchtime so is clearly available to be used for certain occasions out of their usual opening times. It is only a small place inside but has a good amount of outdoor space available & hold a max of 40 to 50 people, it is typical cosy village pub the staff are friendly & there’s a good range of beers, lagers, soft drinks etc. The food was done by the pub which was one platter half brown half white bread egg mayo, one platter of tuna half & half, one platter ham half & half plus 5-6 small cakes which was each cut into quarters so giving four small quarters per cake. The food wasn’t anything special just basic sandwiches & shop bought cakes there also tea/coffee available that was in thermos flasks & was not particularly hot. The amount that was paid for the food was really very expensive for what was provided as the food was supposed to cater for 40 people. It was a lovely afternoon there but I would suggest if you are wanting some sort of food you would probably be better organising it yourself rather than having the pub do it & supply it.

Unfortunately, the sunday roast was a long time coming, dry and lacking in taste, and the carrots were barely cooked. The sandwich with chips was ok, though, but the piped music was intrusive and tinny. I can't really recommend the place on the basis of our experience this time.

We visited the Lord Nelson for a Wednesday lunch and had a great time with lovely food. The welcome was warm as soon as we walked in. A simple and varied menu of popular favourites. My steak and potato pie was lovely and the chips were not the usual fries but proper chips of the sort you'd hope for in a good chippy. What's more is in a cracking location!

Came as part of a large group of 35 for the Bradford literature festival's Brontë Heritage Tour. The pub is hidden away in the beautiful surroundings of Luddenden foot. Despite tight timings the staff managed to serve everyone with their homemade plate pies very efficiently, and we all left replete to continue our tour. We'd never been to Luddenden prior to this trip, but now I'm certain we'll return to the pub which is steeped in history, as a former haunt of Branwell Brontë.

I had the locally sourced roast beef. After a short wait it arrived piping hot and was obviously freshly prepared. The beef itself was delicious and tender and very thickly sliced. The Duchsse potatoes were light and fluffy , the roasts cooked to perfection and the tastiest gravy I've had since last had my Mother's 20 too many years ago. Full marks to Debbie, Pjillipa & crew, it was glorious outside and I know it was like a furnace in the kitchen.. ill be back.

With a selection of hand pulled beers and warming fires in the winter, the Lord Nelson makes a perfect Yorkshire get away to go and eat in the center of the picturesque Yorkshire Pennines. I have been drinking in the pub for many years but have never had a meal here. We enjoyed two courses each, all cooked to a high standard. In fact I will go as far to say the mussels were the best I have had since I was in Brussels 20 years ago! An excellent bottle of wine combined with a friendly service made for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you Debbie.

My wife and I live locally but have only ever called in the 'Nelly' for a drink occasionally in summer and sat in the beautiful and peaceful beer garden.Last Saturday we called in for a pub lunch and were pleasantly surprised to see they served food all day (12-8) on weekends. There was a roaring fire, a bunch of friendly locals and a really welcoming member of staff called Nicky. She was really happy to talk us through the menu and recommend dishes. Two she suggested were the lamb Henry cooked with garlic and rosemary and dauphinoise potatoes, and the homemade pies. We decided on home made meat and potato pie with mushy peas. We weren't disappointed- the homemade crust was thick and crumbly and the gravy was beautifully minted with a side order of homemade mushy peas. It is without doubt one of the best homemade meat and potato pies I've had in a pub, and rivals even my auntie's! We were even more pleased at the price- £5.95!All in all, a terrific visit and one which we're really looking forward to repeating. Families are welcome too.

This was my local pub until this year, but sadly I never liked going there. I ate there once with my family, I ordered cheese and onion pie, but they sent me cheese and pepper pie, it looked like they'd emptied the entire pepper grinder into my pie and forgot the onions. They weren't bothered when I sent it back and didn't apologize. General service is also lacking. Both drinks and food prices are also very high, especially considering what you get. It's a real shame as it's such a cozy, lovely pub.

Tucked away in a tiny, steep village with no apparent car park, this pub is nevertheless well worth a visit. We went on a Friday evening when it was quite busy, but the locals all took the trouble to talk to us, which is not something you can say about every country pub. The menu is actually very small; three roast dinners, two pies, a fish option and a vegetarian option; I suppose they don't expect large crowds. We all found something to eat and enjoy. The portions were generous and had a satisfying home-made feel about them, except the Yorkshire puddings. The only downside was that it took an awful long time to come. I know a 50 minute wait suggests that they were cooking it from fresh, but you don't expect them to have to catch the fish first! I still think it is worth a four * because of the friendliness, the quality of the food and the good value.

We stayed in Luddenden for a week, visiting the Lord Nelson on a handful of occasions. Each time we experienced a friendly welcome from staff and locals alike. The pub has a great atmostphere - somewhere that is very much a part of the village. Food is served weekends and Wednesday. Wednesday is a real treat - Pie and Pint for £6.50, a real bargain considering how good the pies were, I opted for the Cheese and Onion, something I hadn't had for years and it was a delight. There is a lovely garden to the rear too.

I have eaten here before with friends and been very happy with the experience. Called again today just for a drink and ended up eating while we were there. The staff are friendly, helpful and the atmosphere is brilliant. The food is good quality and very tasty, I cleared my plate. The layout of the pub allows you to be involved in the banter or sit aside and you don't feel your company is intruded on if that suits your mood. The décor reflects the age of the building but is also immaculately kept. The menu is regularly updated and reflects seasonal availability of ingredients locally sourced. This is a lovely old pub in the sleepy village of Luddenden well worth a visit for its beauty and local hill walking then into the 'Nellie' for a well earned drink - it doesn't get much better than this. Would highly recommend a visit, I will certainly be back soon.

Tucked away in the gorgeous village of Luddenden (a stones throw from Hebden Bridge) is a special little pub called 'The Nelly', a hidden gem, quite literally! I genuinely believe that the awareness of this place needs to be raised to enable continued and future success. We call in for lunch at least twice per month and although we love having the place almost to ourselves (well apart from the others that have stumbled across it), it is selfish not to share!!The food is delicious, homemade and most importantly consistent - a varied, fresh and seasonal menu to be enjoyed either in front of the open fires in winter or in the award winning beer garden when the sun puts its hat on! The garden is something else and a definite location for a social gathering, or a place to rest with the dogs after a stroll around the beautiful surroundings.I highly recommend the Nelly and would like to thank the entire team for making it what it is today!

We have eaten here today and after an hours wait our main course arrived sadly this arrived before our starter. When we mentioned we hadn't had our stater the waitress just glared at us and no starters had been ordered, but when she spoke to the girl who took our order she said she forgot to send the slip to the kitchen. Our main courses arrived and 2 of the meals were nearly warm and the other 2 were cold. I could accept that maybe the chef was having a bad day, but worst of all were the attitude of the staff, who were rude, arrogant and clearly not interested in attempting a half decent apology.

This pub used to be my local until I moved away from the area. I was pleasantly surprised, when we returned, to find that the Nelson has had a refurb and is looking very smart inside, without losing any of its quaint charm. We stopped for a drink and lunch. The fly in the ointment was someone else's lipstick on my glass. However, it was changed promptly and other glasses checked. The rest of our experience here was so lovely, it's a shame to bring this up, but in the interests of a fair & balanced review….We had the soup & bread (£5), cheese & onion pie & mushy peas (£6) and soup, sandwich & side salad (£8). All home-made. The soup was divine, the bread chunky and the chicken and beef from a reputable local butcher. The cheese in the pie was strong tasting and perfect for cutting through the peas.Staff were chatty, friendly and smiling. Absolutely well worth a visit.
