No food but the beer was excellent , locals very friendly, really made to feel welcome, when ordering ask the landlord if the beer thief is in tonight, there will laughter thru out , wish I lived local 😀 😄

This is a great little village pub. Barstaff was very friendly serving us the drinks, though some of the locals crowded the bar making it difficult to order drinks even though we were clearly waiting to do so. In that regard the atmosphere could improve. Lovely interior, some real effort has gone into making it feel cosy and traditionally 'countrified'. Some nice wall hangings and the beer garden is a delight. Overall I'd definitely drink here again, but some of the locals need to get out of the way when it's a small bar area.

Wish this was our local. Warm welcome great beer and lovely atmosphere. Lovely beer garden for sunny days. Nice traditional pub. Try the port wine challenge! Only stayed for a couple of drinks but wish we had more time could have stayed all afternoon! Proper Yorkshire pub.

Lovely little pub, great atmosphere, worth a visit..

Local pub; first time visiting after 2 years living in the area. It’s full of history and tiny, which makes it such a lovely spot; even in the Winter! Bar staff really friendly. Usual Landlord ales on sale, and one or two specialised beers. Didn’t have any food. In the small room behind the bar, there were board games and lots of local history on the wall. Next door church is full of history and has a huge graveyard around the back, with rambling walk along the river towards Jerusalem Farm - highly recommend- and Cat ‘Ith Well pub. Can’t wait to return in the Spring and Summer.

A brilliant pub with friendly staff & locals. We visit this establishment on several occasions throughout the year whilst walking our dog. Never disappointed.

The wake for a young family man who was born, grew up & who’s family/friends still live in the village/area & was the pub he was a regular before he had children. Pub opened up for it earlier than their usual opening times as it started at lunchtime so is clearly available to be used for certain occasions out of their usual opening times. It is only a small place inside but has a good amount of outdoor space available & hold a max of 40 to 50 people, it is typical cosy village pub the staff are friendly & there’s a good range of beers, lagers, soft drinks etc. The food was done by the pub which was one platter half brown half white bread egg mayo, one platter of tuna half & half, one platter ham half & half plus 5-6 small cakes which was each cut into quarters so giving four small quarters per cake. The food wasn’t anything special just basic sandwiches & shop bought cakes there also tea/coffee available that was in thermos flasks & was not particularly hot. The amount that was paid for the food was really very expensive for what was provided as the food was supposed to cater for 40 people. It was a lovely afternoon there but I would suggest if you are wanting some sort of food you would probably be better organising it yourself rather than having the pub do it & supply it.

Sorry Jess - I don't usually review places and I accidentally posted when I didn't intend to! We had an excellent evening out and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Lord Nelson. Good beer and atmosphere. You are now the first place I have posted for.

Can't rate this place enough, if your in the area then get yourself in there. The landlord is larger than life, the beer is like like ambrosia and I can't wait for the food to start again. Watch this space it will be worth the trip. Go once and you will keep going back and be welcomed like family not only by the staff but also by the patrons.

Went before we were allowed back inside, and service and set up is great. Nice range of drinks, and in a really nice spot.

Beautifully done out, great measures in place for social distancing and friendly welcome. Not great for real ale but plenty of other choice.

A must visit for anyone wishing to explore Calderdale's quaint villages. Luddenden is very pretty indeed, one of my favourite local villages and the pub sits just across from the church, river and waterfall. Good Sunday lunches, friendly staff and good selection of local ales. Was used as a BBC film set for the Gentleman Jack series, along with the riverside walk nearby. Beer garden lovely on a warm day too!

Food was terrible, kids paid same prices as adults, it wwas a cold December and the place was FREEZING

Beautiful location. However - pub freezing cold has to sit with my jacket over my legs as there was a draft coming from under seats. Food was below average tiny portions. Kids meals are priced the same as adult meals. In my life time I have never seen kids meals being the same as the adults. Please avoid if possible.

Ordered Sunday lunch was ok but had to wait over half a hour before it came and slightly disappointed beeing in Yorkshire and no mash.

Every few years we travel to Luddenden and always visit The Nelson, A very friendly place which serves excellent food on a Wed night and weekends and pulls an excellent pint. The quiz on a Tuesday is worth playing We will be back.

A very traditional country pub with excellent food, good prices and friendly staff. Takes a little finding for those not familiar with the area but well worth the effort. It was used for the external shots in the Gentleman Jack series on TV.

My father and i attended the Wednesday night special menu evening and the food was excellent! Sat with my father and my dog and we had a lovely meal and great service! Thanks Darren and the team

It's a friendly old fashioned pub - but with an up to date drinks menu. Staff are friendly and efficient

Unfortunately, the sunday roast was a long time coming, dry and lacking in taste, and the carrots were barely cooked. The sandwich with chips was ok, though, but the piped music was intrusive and tinny. I can't really recommend the place on the basis of our experience this time.

Had a lovely Sunday roast ,the owners are very friendly and make you feel very welcome . Very impressed with the pub , spotlessly clean .It is dog friendly , and so our west highand terrier was happy just to sit under the table .Will definitely visit again , when we visit my brother who lives in the area.

Lovely 17th century pub in Luddenden. Four Real Ale pumps but only three on our visit, two from Timothy Taylor and one from Moorhouses. Food served including a very competively priced Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit.

A traditional cosy 400 year old pub tucked away in the beautiful village of Luddenden overlooking the River and the church. The pub serves excellent hand pulled beers and food is available at the weekends. The area is a mecca for walkers.

This is a superb country Inn located in a beautiful village setting. Very friendly staff (and locals!) and a great selection of beers. the food is top class, pub food but very good.

A relatively modern pub/restaurant with a bit of a "real pub" atmosphere. The menu was not exciting but the food was good home cooking (proper chips!).and very good value. Most friendly staff, Well worth a visit,

We were invited to a surprise 60th Birthday party at The Lord Nelson Inn. The setting is in a tiny village with narrow streets steep slopes and very little parking. Inside are several small room a very well stocked bar. Packed with locals and a great atmosphere, very friendly bunch. The pub had laid on a buffet which was lovely. Would certainly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We visited the Lord Nelson for a Wednesday lunch and had a great time with lovely food. The welcome was warm as soon as we walked in. A simple and varied menu of popular favourites. My steak and potato pie was lovely and the chips were not the usual fries but proper chips of the sort you'd hope for in a good chippy. What's more is in a cracking location!

Visited on a club run. They had set on pie and peas. Nicely done, but not their standard menu. Beautiful surroundings. Perfect for a walk and lunch.

Had Sunday roast here, very good portion and good quality meat. Steak pies like homemade ones too, with plenty of filling. Accommodated group of 11 well even though it's a small pub (we booked).

Its an oldie worldie type of pgood beerlace but very endearing. Staff pleasant and beers are good. Parking isn't too good but you will find spaces just up the road.
