Visited here as I do regularly, not sure why I thought it would be any different to any other visit. Last visit before this I went in for a coffee only to be told it wasn't possible as they had cleaned down the coffee machine, 20 minutes prior to closing - to me a closing time is a closing time to the public and up until that point you serve them, then cleaning down commences after, but I could be wrong. This time I asked for a plain cheese sandwich after checking the shelves to which there was only tuna mayo & egg salad (something similar) left. The lady behind the counter refused to do this for me, blaming Natasha's Law, now I take this very seriously and understand the reasoning behind, however this law regards pre packaged food & labelling. As this isn't the first time I have been refused by the same lady something other than what's on the shelf (which most of the time may I add is hardly anything because they only make a certain amount & have a "it is what it is attitude". ) I am putting it down to pure laziness. It is a shame as Usk doesn't have a decent bakery. It is hardly ever open due to staff shortages, they aren't willing to branch out on customer requests and the attitude is far from hospitable.

Came here for a late lunch at the weekend, after it was recommended to us while holidaying in the area. It didn’t disappoint!!! The food was amazing, hands down the best meal of our holiday. Service also good, and dogs welcomed too. The only feedback I’d give to the restaurant is that we were sat by a door that led out to a garden; people would take drinks out and the door didn’t close properly so we had to keep getting up to close it! Hopefully rectified in the upcoming refurb. Otherwise perfect and would recommend without a doubt!

What an excellent visit we had! The bar staff and landlady were so welcoming and funny, we could have stayed for hours. Dogs welcome too, perfect stop off on our canal boat holiday, would most certainly return.

Disappointed with my visit here today. My husband and I ordered 2 ice creams. His cornet was generously filled, but my tub had a very mean scoop in it. We asked the person who served us if he could top it up to the same size as the cornet, and was met with a curt, quite rude “That is the portion size” Had I not already paid I would have just walked out. Very poor customer service. It would have been 1 star, but the little ice cream I had was very yummy.

Best cappuccino I’ve ever had, and good food too. Lovely friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and great to see local artists’ work on the walls. My regular go-to cafe as they’re dog-friendly too.

This bar is conveniently located near to the Severn Bridge making it the go to destination for both local Welsh inhabitants and the travelling English alike. It has everything you can wish for in a bar, salty snacks, great atmosphere and even several local eateries just around the corner including a Chinese restaurant that will only take cash and a local American owned pizzeria with excellent collection & delivery deals. This bar even has the bonus of local entertainment with one of Chepstow’s most popular vocal groups often popping in for a sing song! A great great great bar. (No wine available)

A fairly historic site situated by the side of the Newport to Brecon canal. Interesting to have a look around/walk the towpath and then enjoy a light lunch and coffee.

Me and the kids went y'day and were greeted by 2 lovely big smiles (from the man in charge and a young lady), and were given the biggest portion of cheesy chips carefully layered for maximum taste! Great customer service and great food. Thank you. We were impressed! 😀

I booked 2 rooms for an overnight stay last Friday evening. I was appalled by the standard of both bedrooms and after having paid, in my opinion the ridiculous amount of £230 for 2 small dirty rooms, we checked out just a few hours after arriving. Poor lighting in both rooms, our tv did not work, infact it wasn't even tuned in and more concerning our bathroom was absolutely filthy.....it didn't look as though it had been cleaned in months. Carpets throughout the pub were also stained and filthy. What a shame.....from the outside it looks such a lovely country pub but step inside the door and it's like stepping back in time. The place needs a complete overhaul and I strongly recommend avoiding at all costs.

We booked to stay at this lovely looking little hotel as a stop off on or journey. Thought the price was reasonable and looked lovely. My husband and I work late so never gave it much of a thought about check in times. I had written that we expected to arrive between 7-8pm, although I had forgotten about this. As with most people, unforeseen circumstances occur, in our case my parents (who are in their 80s) boiler broke and being the lovely guy my husband is, he went to fix it. In the meantime I have a call from the hotel. I politely answered not for one minute expecting that arriving later would be an issue as to my understanding this place is after all is a pub. A genuine error on my part. The owner was phoning me at the same time as his young member of staff was on the phone to me, where I was trying to work out a time of arrival and as we had a bit of a drive so it was likely to to be after 10. When I got off the phone, not realising at this point that the owner had been calling me, I had an answerphone message. I have never been so shocked in my life, it was a vile answerphone message where the owner was shouting at me. I have kept this recording and will ensure that I keep a hard copy because in all my years of travelling I have never been rude to anyone, and I have never ever been spoken to as I was just spoken to. I called the owner back, only for him to continue his rant at me over the phone. I was patient and apologetic, explaining it was a genuine error on my, and didn’t realise that it would be such an issue as it was a pub, he then scoffed and said so many people say that, so I said, ohh so this is an issue you’ve had before! He quickly backtracked, but continued to chastise me, he said that this is the contract you have with booking.com ….. so I said so you live far from the hotel and he said yes again with a tone that suggested I should have known this. I asked what happens in the night if there is an issue in the hotel after 9 o’clock. He said guests contact my duty manager who only lives 20 minutes away. I then said, so would it be possible for them to just let us in? He shouted NO at me. At this point I’d had enough, and I expressed my disappointment at how I’d been spoken to, and he continued to rant. I’d asked if that meant we had lost our money because we hadn’t arrived between 7&8, he said yes!! So this business OWNER who moaned about the state of the economy during his rant, is not dedicated enough to consider that sometimes people get held up for very good reasons, and that when someone books into a hotel they don’t expect anything but relaxation. In all honesty, it seems to us that this man uses the booking.com ‘contract’ which he kept citing, to take your money and not have to change the beds or make breakfast in the morning, but still keep your money because he’s shouting CONTRACT!!! Ironically, you can check out at 1am no problem. This owner did not care enough about his business to facilitate or accommodate a guest who made a genuine mistake of thinking that pubs are open til 11, or stay for a little longer to ensure the reputation of his business has chosen to take our money, but not allow us to stay because we can’t get there for his timeframe. He wouldn’t even ask the duty manager to pop by to let us in. So good luck if you book here and have an emergency. Or if you are held up for any reason. I was also laughed at for not knowing that pubs shut at 9 since covid?? I thought hotels were 24 hours? I own a holiday home in Cardigan, that’s an hour and a half from where we live. We have a key safe in situ for our guests recognising that life doesn’t always run smoothly. For us, our guests experience is paramount, we have even driven the hour and a half to support our guests. So please forgive me if I don’t understand your reluctance to manage your business in the same courteous manner. The irony of this is that we booked to stay at this hotel to support local businesses, as opposed to staying at a cheaper chain hotel in order to bolster our economy in Wales. A big thumbs up to the owner - not a staff member- of this establishment for the dire treatment of guests, and good luck with the economy that you’re moaning about, because if you are facing economic challenges, they are of your own making due to your lack of commitment and customer relations. If you aren’t prepared to put the work in, then you should not be in the hospitality industry!! I have no doubt this man’s response to this review will reflect his unprofessional manner.
