Tamarind in Monmouthshire

It was a very quiet night in there for saying it was Saturday evening, only us and 1 other table with guests on it, plus the staffs kids were in there trying to gain attention from our table. Killing the mood of our night sightly. The food was very nice however, May be better to be used as a takeaway.

Nice small Indian restaurant, lovely food, shame no one seems to use it as a restaurant. Friendly helpful staff, reasonable prices, just a shame that the families children were in the restaurant and not a room elsewhere (I don't mind children, but it's not a professional image for an otherwise nice restaurant to portray).

once again took a chance and ordered from here again, and once again was disappointed with the chicken in the korma being pink in colour. so sad and disappointed 😞

2nd time having a takeaway from here, outstanding food. Lovely thick curry aswell, no oil and grease. All fresh meat. Stunning

Nice Restaurant decor could be a bit smarter and Restaurant fairly quiet,as was most of the Restaurants we passed but food Excellent, Chicken Peppers and Onion Bhaji to start, followed by Rogan Josh, my first Lamb Biriani,Madras curry,rice Peshwari Nan,Cobra Eat at 7pm but would have liked it to be busier

Didn’t arrive on time. Not even close. But more importantly, the food is terrible. Butter chicken is completely flavourless (and yellow?), garlic naan is equally flavourless while also being stale. Worst of all was the curry was quite watery. Couldn’t finish it. Will never recommend. You can find better curry in British pubs!

Absolutely shocking service! We waiting 2 and a half hours after realising our food was not going to turn up, after calling them the lady kept telling me it would be 10 mins still a no show, she also kept on hanging up on me through the call. If I could give a zero I would.

Do yourself a favour and read the reviews - I wish I had. And advice for you, Tamarind - don't lie to your customers (saying food is on its way, when it clearly isn't), don't hang up on them, don't laugh when an issue is brought to your attention... It doesn't matter how good your food is (after nearly 3 hour wait, I thought anything would taste nice, but honestly - it was below average), if you're this rude and act like you never heard of customer service, you will loose business.

Food was lovely but the driver did not know where my location was. Paid for delivery but I had to go and meet the driver fairly close to the takeaway. Will order again but I will collect man in the phone was fairly rude using the word s**t.

Really enjoyed the meal. The food was superb. Lovely friendly staff. I hadn’t been to Tamarind for many years and I was surprised at how excellent the food and service was.

Great meal, but was left very embarrassed when manager would not except cash payment of old £20 notes, when by law the old £20 notes were still in legal tender for at least another 5 days! After 10 mins of arguing, we were bullied into one of our guest paying by card, which left me very embarrassed,.This has put me off returning.

If I could leave a review of 0 then I would. Ordered from here last night and I can honestly say its the worst Indian food I have ever had. Customer service absolutely shocking they put the phone down on me 3 times. When the food finally arrived 2 hours later things was missing from it. For £65 I definitely won't be ordering from here again and I would advise everyone else to find someone where else to have a indian. (Stay clear of this place)

Seriously awful . No culinary skills at all, does the ‘chef’ who also seems to be the waiter even taste the food he’s serving? You’d not want to eat in as the family seem to dominate the restaurant and there are scribbling pads and crushed empty cans on the floor so no surprise it was empty. Abergavenny has seven Indian restaurants, this is the worst… but I’d rather drive to Red Indigo in Crickhowell, what’s that? 15 miles from my home, says more than I can say

If I could give 0 out of 5 I would. We ordered take away with delivery from the Tamarind and as well as delivering late they got the order wrong. We rang to let them know, expecting them to correct it. However, despite having charged us for the missing item they claimed they hadn’t and wanted us to pay for it again plus another £3 delivery charge! They weren’t in the least bit bothered about it. We won’t use this restaurant again and my advice would be that if you do, carefully check what you pay versus what you are given.

If I could score zero I would. Ment to be eating at 9, no food till half 10. Food was mediocre lamb very over done. Also prices had inflated when we got to the till. Never go back again.

Had a fantastic meal on Saturday night. There was only us and another couple who were dining in. It wasn’t until we received the bill I thought something was wrong. When I questioned it the waiter said yes sorry but the prices have gone up, we haven’t had our new menus and I forgot to mention it to you. Shame as i think this is unprofessional and also illegal. Won’t be coming back. Check your bill.

Had our first meal here tonight. Food was absolutely amazing. From the starters to our chicken and spinach balti. Only problem was when we had our bill I thought we had been overcharged and then realised they had decided to charge everything at different prices as apparently the menu was out of date and they were waiting on a new version. Surely this is unprofessional but also illegal. When questioned all we got was sorry I’m busy and I’m on my own. Great food but check you bill.

Lamb madras was flavoursome but the prawn shashlick was tasteless and full of food colouring! Overall I would say there are better Indian restaurants in town!!

Ordered food at 6.40, still waiting for it at 9pm, despite being promised it was on it's way well over an hour ago. Their phone line appears to have stopped working /been set to permenantly engaged. Definitely never using them again - can see from reviews this happens periodically.

Appalling service, food has not arrived after 2 hours, rude over the phone when questioned. Placed a small order tonight at 6:20, was told it would be delivered no later than 6:50, after 2 hours we have still not received the food. I phoned the restaurant 3 times, they said it would be 10 minutes and it didn't arrive each time. When I asked why it had taken so long for such a small order they were incredibly rude, and hung up on me. Disgusting way to run your business, will not be ordering from again and suggest others to do the same.

Big portions nicely cooked good value

Every time I visit this restaurant I am never disappointed. Great service and fantastic food. Most recently had the Nizami Handi with pilau rice and garlic nan accompanied with a bottle of Bangla. Just delicious. Can’t wait to return!

I travel all over the UK and eat my fair share of Indians, but I must say this was by far the best ever! Huge portions,fantastic flavours and delivered to my hotel,can't ask more than that!

Had a curry tonight ,had a southern Indian garlic chilli chicken and this was not a great meal. Chips were hard, keema naan had next to no meat in it and the curry was by far not good. . Very disappointed.

I did not think places like this still existed. Poor service, stark neon lighting, tropical fish in a filthy tank and a 'music tape' that worked intermittently and that was all before the food arrived. The food itself was bright orange and inedible. We complained and the manager came out to rant and threaten us - 'Basil Fawlty' style. This restaurant is the stuff of nightmares - enter at your peril.

We had an absolutely awful experience here. It was our first time in Abergavenny and we came upon this place by chance on a Monday night. When the food arrived it was all the same bright orange colour and completely inedible. Try as we might no-one caught eat much. We complained and a very angry man emerged from the kitchens and started to verbally abuse us. He was rude and threatening and insisted we pay for the bill (£83 for 3 people) and go away. For such a beautiful town which we found so hospitable toward its visitors - the Tamarind was an unpleasant surprise. This place should be avoided at all costs. Basil Fawlty eat your heart out.

Lovely food served here, good service from friendly staff

My son said he fancied an Indian curry. I said " I know the perfect place " We parked opposite in the main carpark that is free after 6:00 pm. We both had the same meal orders Chicken Madras with chips and mushroom rice. Sami Kebabs to start with poppadum's and pickle tray. My son drank Cobra ale I had Magners cider. Our meals were superb and we both enjoyed our visit.

Rugby 🏉 seems ok nice place. But I'm football ⚽️ fan sorry.

We had 5 main meals and sides and a mixture of naan breads. They weren’t particularly helpful with a discrepancy on the price, so we eventually just paid to get out of there. The naan breads were the worst I’ve ever had! Lacking filling and flavour! The chicken tikka massala was the brightest red I’ve ever seen, but tasted ok. The southern Indian garlic chilli chicken was the hottest curry we’ve ever had, and this is coming from hot curry lovers. We ended up leaving it! I wouldn’t rush back here!

Ordered and paid via Just Eat. 6 curries with rice/chips bhajis and poppadoms arrived almost dead on time. Curries were all good. The medium chicken curry could have been a bit spicier. I tried my son’s madras (but not as spicy as that lol) - something in between would have suited me better. Anyway no problems with curries, or rice dishes. Bhajis weren’t the best - not crispy enough. And the poppadoms were inedible - soft and floppy - a real disappointment.

Hadn't been for a meal here lately, it had always been a favourite of mine, but I was put off a little by reviews on here .I needn't have been the meal was delicious. Restaurant was busy as it was 50% off night, waiters seemed a little under pressure but service was quick and efficient. Food was piping hot, only one quibble I asked for prawn puree, but was given a chicken one with waiter muttering it was a special puree. I didn't make a fuss as it was really nice. Menus were a bit messy with lots of lamb dishes crossed off and lots of price alterations. They do need to get new ones printed. Not sure why lamb crossed off, maybe streamlining menu a little. There were some lamb dishes available. Customers reasonably spaced out, plenty of hand gels available. This is the 4th Indian or Nepalese I have visited in Abergavenny during 50% discount time and was best meal in my opinion! Can't wait to visit again.

Popped in with a few friends for a catch-up and some food. Waited 45 MINUTES to be asked what drinks we wanted whilst other customers orders were taken minutes after their arrival. Drinks arrived flat and decided to leave after terrible service. Got over charged for the drinks and the manager failed to understand why we were upset about the service. Avoid like the plague, SHAMBLES! Footnote: I've experienced better atmospheres at funerals.

Waited 40 minutes to get served and was only got asked for a drink terrible staff and very unfriendly will not come back extremely poor

Myself and my sister went into this takeaway tonight to order a meal. I was absolutely disgusted with what I seen. Someone working in the kitchen flemmed up in their throat and then spat it in the bin. This kitchen door was open and I seen this for myself. We hadn't ordered at this stage. Needless to say myself and my sister walked out.

My family and I had a wonderful evening here last night, the food and service was excellent!!! Special thanks to Abdul who greeted us with such warmth, he truly made us feel so welcome and special. The dishes were all amazing and tasted delicious, thank you all very much and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Me and my family just had the pleasure of eating here for dinner and it was the most enjoyable experience all thanks to their amazing staff, especially Abdul. Arrived a little early and received a very warm welcome. Restaurant was a little quiet so we received a lot of attention. Ordered a few drinks and then starters which were beautifully cooked. Then on to the mains, my party of four all agreed the food was outstanding, I like a very hot curry and the chicken tikka phall was stunning, among the best I’ve had in over 25 years. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and are already planning to visit again for a friends upcoming birthday. Abdul, who was looking after us is a lovely character. See you soon. J.

First takeaway in a while. The place has fallen away the past few months. Tonight however, the food was fantastic. But the biggest plus is the return of Abdul. He is a legend in town. Lovely to see you back my old friend. See you again soon. Next time the wife will come too.

Super accommodating and all the dishes are A+ - Abdul was great and really looked after us. We were a large group with lots of needs and we left very happy.

We had food at the Tamarind last night and the food as always was excellent. All the dishes were great quality and quantity.

Poor service, poor quality food, late delivery, restaurant staff very unhelpful when phoning, messed our order up three times in a row despite explaining when ordering that we wanted the sauce. Never ever go to this place again! Terrible management and wasted an hour on food.....despite giving them the benefit of the doubt three times!!

I have always used the Tamarind local to my previous address so since moving here it was only natural we ordered our takeaways from here and we have never been disappointed. We decided to eat at the restaurant last night as they have a Tuesday night offer, 5 courses for £11.99. The food was fantastic and the service from Abdul was amazing. My only issue is that there was to much food! I hate food waste so would happily have paid the same price for 4 courses (and I’m pretty greedy).

Disgusting staff. Horrible and abusive. Ordered a takeaway at 6pm and paid, including delivery. Arrival was meant to be 7:25 but by 7:45 we heard nothing and had to call the them who said the driver was local and knew where he was going and will be with us by 8:10. 8:30 came along and we were apologised to and told we would get some money refunded and the food will be with us by 9. 9:30 came and we heard nothing, called back and was told we had to pick it up even though we paid for delivery. Was told to call back about the refund which we did. Was shouted at and felt verbally abused for making such a claim, was very confused by this as this is what we were told to do and explained that again just to be shouted at again and hung up on.

Fright night was delivered by the tamarind tonight, ordered 3 starters got half a tray of salad that definitely was not fresh. Ordered extra mint sauce & paid for it,didn’t get it.

Was here 28.09.2029 absolutely 1st class . Had to wait for it BUT well worth it the food was brilliant . 10 out 10 well worth the money

Have been using this restaurant for many years a few times a month. Food is excellent and service very good.

Went in at 10.40 pm on Saturday night, requested a table for two, only to be told that the restaurant was closed and they were only providing a take away service. We explained we knew exactly what we wanted and would be very quick, to no avail!Very disapointed as we have usually dined here 2 to 3 times a month for many years and found the food and service to be excellent!

Ordered a takeaway for delivery. They wanted to charge £10 more than the menu prices. Firstly they claimed the menu was out of date, I pointed out it was the same as the website. Then they claimed it was because of the distance ( under 3 miles). I told the woman on the phone to leave it as I was being ripped off and was not paying 10 pound for delivery. I was then bombarded by several calls from different numbers. I had to block the numbers as they were constantly calling

Amazing food! Service is good, very attentive but I think they struggle a little with English - the food more than makes up for it! 4 of us ate on a Sunday evening for about £60. Each had popadom, starter, main, rice/naan and a drink. All left stuffed!

We ate here a few weeks ago after failing to get into another restaurant. The place is clean and tidy the staff helpful and the food is good if not a little plain. I had chicken tikka byriani with a madras sauce. Good chicken sauce not especially hot.

Ordered food online, order was cancelled and the restaurant didn’t have the courtesy of letting us know, we sat for nearly 2 hours waiting for food that didn’t arrive. Called to see where our order was and the customer service was terrible, no apology. Won’t order from here again

On a short visit to Abergavenny my sister and I literally came across Tamarind as we arrived and it was just opening for the evening. The service was lovely and I was served the tastiest Asian meal I have ever had. I can't wait to visit again and will time it so that we come to this restaurant, no need to look elsewhere.

Mixed review, service is terrible, wrong food on numerous times. But because of the quality of food I keep going back, just learnt to expect times will be wrong and guaranteed to have something different. Went again last night, they would not honor the offer they have put on Wuntu (3 app). They said that it is a con and they have never signed up to it. We just walked out before sitting down. This is the straw that broke the camels back... will not be returning.....

Me and my wife ordered takeaway from this restaurant. I must say we were very disappointed with the food overall especially after reading some of the positive reviews. Probably the worst part, the food was very bland, not enough spices were used or not cooked properly. Although it may fool some of the locals, this food has nothing to do with authentic Indian cuisine

Unbelievable food..and way before delivery time...absolutely lush food....love your chuckneys...that red plum coloured one is lush...its the best Indian takeaway I had...oh the ice cream and cucumber helped too.thanks so much.100%out of 100%..lush...thank you...

If you fancy an alternative to a traditional Christmas dinner, we would definitely recommend you try here. Fantastic food, excellent service, no pressure to leave and no inflation to the prices. Everything on the menu was available, served quickly and well presented. This could become our new tradition.

The food was spectacular- you can tell it was handmade with pride and love. Abdul is a fantastic host and the rest of the bar team. We were there for my sister's birthday, where the birthday girl received a complimentary cocktail and a bottle of wine from the owner. Can't thank you enough for everything.

Great food! As a vegetarian it is great to find dishes that are not common to your average Indian restaurant and even better when they are prepared as well as they are at the Tamarind.
