Tamarind in Monmouthshire

Nice Restaurant decor could be a bit smarter and Restaurant fairly quiet,as was most of the Restaurants we passed but food Excellent, Chicken Peppers and Onion Bhaji to start, followed by Rogan Josh, my first Lamb Biriani,Madras curry,rice Peshwari Nan,Cobra Eat at 7pm but would have liked it to be busier

Really enjoyed the meal. The food was superb. Lovely friendly staff. I hadn’t been to Tamarind for many years and I was surprised at how excellent the food and service was.

Seriously awful . No culinary skills at all, does the ‘chef’ who also seems to be the waiter even taste the food he’s serving? You’d not want to eat in as the family seem to dominate the restaurant and there are scribbling pads and crushed empty cans on the floor so no surprise it was empty. Abergavenny has seven Indian restaurants, this is the worst… but I’d rather drive to Red Indigo in Crickhowell, what’s that? 15 miles from my home, says more than I can say

If I could give 0 out of 5 I would. We ordered take away with delivery from the Tamarind and as well as delivering late they got the order wrong. We rang to let them know, expecting them to correct it. However, despite having charged us for the missing item they claimed they hadn’t and wanted us to pay for it again plus another £3 delivery charge! They weren’t in the least bit bothered about it. We won’t use this restaurant again and my advice would be that if you do, carefully check what you pay versus what you are given.

Had our first meal here tonight. Food was absolutely amazing. From the starters to our chicken and spinach balti. Only problem was when we had our bill I thought we had been overcharged and then realised they had decided to charge everything at different prices as apparently the menu was out of date and they were waiting on a new version. Surely this is unprofessional but also illegal. When questioned all we got was sorry I’m busy and I’m on my own. Great food but check you bill.

Lamb madras was flavoursome but the prawn shashlick was tasteless and full of food colouring! Overall I would say there are better Indian restaurants in town!!

I did not think places like this still existed. Poor service, stark neon lighting, tropical fish in a filthy tank and a 'music tape' that worked intermittently and that was all before the food arrived. The food itself was bright orange and inedible. We complained and the manager came out to rant and threaten us - 'Basil Fawlty' style. This restaurant is the stuff of nightmares - enter at your peril.

My son said he fancied an Indian curry. I said " I know the perfect place " We parked opposite in the main carpark that is free after 6:00 pm. We both had the same meal orders Chicken Madras with chips and mushroom rice. Sami Kebabs to start with poppadum's and pickle tray. My son drank Cobra ale I had Magners cider. Our meals were superb and we both enjoyed our visit.

We had 5 main meals and sides and a mixture of naan breads. They weren’t particularly helpful with a discrepancy on the price, so we eventually just paid to get out of there. The naan breads were the worst I’ve ever had! Lacking filling and flavour! The chicken tikka massala was the brightest red I’ve ever seen, but tasted ok. The southern Indian garlic chilli chicken was the hottest curry we’ve ever had, and this is coming from hot curry lovers. We ended up leaving it! I wouldn’t rush back here!

Ordered and paid via Just Eat. 6 curries with rice/chips bhajis and poppadoms arrived almost dead on time. Curries were all good. The medium chicken curry could have been a bit spicier. I tried my son’s madras (but not as spicy as that lol) - something in between would have suited me better. Anyway no problems with curries, or rice dishes. Bhajis weren’t the best - not crispy enough. And the poppadoms were inedible - soft and floppy - a real disappointment.

Hadn't been for a meal here lately, it had always been a favourite of mine, but I was put off a little by reviews on here .I needn't have been the meal was delicious. Restaurant was busy as it was 50% off night, waiters seemed a little under pressure but service was quick and efficient. Food was piping hot, only one quibble I asked for prawn puree, but was given a chicken one with waiter muttering it was a special puree. I didn't make a fuss as it was really nice. Menus were a bit messy with lots of lamb dishes crossed off and lots of price alterations. They do need to get new ones printed. Not sure why lamb crossed off, maybe streamlining menu a little. There were some lamb dishes available. Customers reasonably spaced out, plenty of hand gels available. This is the 4th Indian or Nepalese I have visited in Abergavenny during 50% discount time and was best meal in my opinion! Can't wait to visit again.

We had yet again a wonderful meal at the Tamarind last night, the food is tasty and well presented. The staff are very friendly always a special welcome Thank you John

Waited 40 minutes to get served and was only got asked for a drink terrible staff and very unfriendly will not come back extremely poor

Popped in with a few friends for a catch-up and some food. Waited 45 MINUTES to be asked what drinks we wanted whilst other customers orders were taken minutes after their arrival. Drinks arrived flat and decided to leave after terrible service. Got over charged for the drinks and the manager failed to understand why we were upset about the service. Avoid like the plague, SHAMBLES! Footnote: I've experienced better atmospheres at funerals.

We loved it! Highly recommend Tamarind. Pleasant surroundings, excellent, friendly service, we felt so welcome and superbly flavoursome food, cooked to perfection. ***** 5 Stars

My family and I had a wonderful evening here last night, the food and service was excellent!!! Special thanks to Abdul who greeted us with such warmth, he truly made us feel so welcome and special. The dishes were all amazing and tasted delicious, thank you all very much and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Me and my family just had the pleasure of eating here for dinner and it was the most enjoyable experience all thanks to their amazing staff, especially Abdul. Arrived a little early and received a very warm welcome. Restaurant was a little quiet so we received a lot of attention. Ordered a few drinks and then starters which were beautifully cooked. Then on to the mains, my party of four all agreed the food was outstanding, I like a very hot curry and the chicken tikka phall was stunning, among the best I’ve had in over 25 years. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and are already planning to visit again for a friends upcoming birthday. Abdul, who was looking after us is a lovely character. See you soon. J.

First takeaway in a while. The place has fallen away the past few months. Tonight however, the food was fantastic. But the biggest plus is the return of Abdul. He is a legend in town. Lovely to see you back my old friend. See you again soon. Next time the wife will come too.

Super accommodating and all the dishes are A+ - Abdul was great and really looked after us. We were a large group with lots of needs and we left very happy.

We had food at the Tamarind last night and the food as always was excellent. All the dishes were great quality and quantity.

Poor service, poor quality food, late delivery, restaurant staff very unhelpful when phoning, messed our order up three times in a row despite explaining when ordering that we wanted the sauce. Never ever go to this place again! Terrible management and wasted an hour on food.....despite giving them the benefit of the doubt three times!!

I have always used the Tamarind local to my previous address so since moving here it was only natural we ordered our takeaways from here and we have never been disappointed. We decided to eat at the restaurant last night as they have a Tuesday night offer, 5 courses for £11.99. The food was fantastic and the service from Abdul was amazing. My only issue is that there was to much food! I hate food waste so would happily have paid the same price for 4 courses (and I’m pretty greedy).

Excellent meal, perfectly cooked and presented, first class service and lovely environment. I would highly recommend a visit.

Fright night was delivered by the tamarind tonight, ordered 3 starters got half a tray of salad that definitely was not fresh. Ordered extra mint sauce & paid for it,didn’t get it.

Have been using this restaurant for many years a few times a month. Food is excellent and service very good.

Went in at 10.40 pm on Saturday night, requested a table for two, only to be told that the restaurant was closed and they were only providing a take away service. We explained we knew exactly what we wanted and would be very quick, to no avail!Very disapointed as we have usually dined here 2 to 3 times a month for many years and found the food and service to be excellent!

Ordered a takeaway for delivery. They wanted to charge £10 more than the menu prices. Firstly they claimed the menu was out of date, I pointed out it was the same as the website. Then they claimed it was because of the distance ( under 3 miles). I told the woman on the phone to leave it as I was being ripped off and was not paying 10 pound for delivery. I was then bombarded by several calls from different numbers. I had to block the numbers as they were constantly calling

We ate here a few weeks ago after failing to get into another restaurant. The place is clean and tidy the staff helpful and the food is good if not a little plain. I had chicken tikka byriani with a madras sauce. Good chicken sauce not especially hot.

Ordered food online, order was cancelled and the restaurant didn’t have the courtesy of letting us know, we sat for nearly 2 hours waiting for food that didn’t arrive. Called to see where our order was and the customer service was terrible, no apology. Won’t order from here again

On a short visit to Abergavenny my sister and I literally came across Tamarind as we arrived and it was just opening for the evening. The service was lovely and I was served the tastiest Asian meal I have ever had. I can't wait to visit again and will time it so that we come to this restaurant, no need to look elsewhere.

Ordered a takeaway from here, the driver was very polite when she turned up with my order. I always ask for her now when I order . Also I love the food always tastes lovely

If you fancy an alternative to a traditional Christmas dinner, we would definitely recommend you try here. Fantastic food, excellent service, no pressure to leave and no inflation to the prices. Everything on the menu was available, served quickly and well presented. This could become our new tradition.

The food was spectacular- you can tell it was handmade with pride and love. Abdul is a fantastic host and the rest of the bar team. We were there for my sister's birthday, where the birthday girl received a complimentary cocktail and a bottle of wine from the owner. Can't thank you enough for everything.

Collected a takeaway from tamarind. Really good tasty food with flavour. All sides were delicious. Not a scrap was left. Would use again.

Just had an amazing meal in the Tamarind, the food as always was first class, what made the night even more perfect was Abdul the waiter, nothing was too much trouble and his customer service skills are outstanding. Looking forward to our next visit.

5 of us visited Tamarind last night. Pomps, Chutney dish, excellent various starters, main courses, side dishes etc. All washed down with big ice cold bottles of Bangla lager. Clean comfy restaurant, superb food and polite friendly staff. Great to see Abdul back too...

The takeaway we had was amazing: real dahl, with fresh spices and coriander, and main curry dishes full of flavour, spice and the right heat rather than floating in oil. Quite the best curry I've had from a restaurant.

Always friendly and welcoming this is my favourite Indian in Abergavenny. The service is always good and the food is delicious. As a vegetarian I love how they use chunky fresh vegetables in my dishes instead of a handful of frozen veg as I find in other Indian restaurants.

The food here at the Tamarind is always amazing. The service is without doubt spot on all of the time.

This food is terrible. I had my dinner there tonight and had Goan Fish curry. It was not at all Goan fish curry. I come form a place very close to Goa in India that is famous for its fish curries. The fish was so oily and bad, unbelievable. I also had Onion Bhaji as an appetizer. It must have been fried twice (old stock recycled). Was awful. Service was very poor. The guy didn't know where to find a beer listed in the menu; his answer was I can't find it and the bar tender is out tonight. Overall, very bad experience.

Visited the restaurant with my wife and son. Had a decent meal and got chatting to the waiter. At the end of the meal the waiter took some time to chat to us and seemed to be very pleasant. He then handed us several vouchers for 25% of our next visit, which we thought was a very kind gesture. It wasn’t until we tried to use the voucher on our next visit (approx 1 month ago) that we were told that the vouchers were not from this restaurant. I described the chap that had given to us and was told that there wasn’t anybody of that description working there. Rather than make a scene I told them that I would keep an eye out for the said waiter on future visits. I decided to pop into the restaurant last weekend for a takeaway and low and behold, the waiter that was there. I approached him about the vouchers and he stated that he hadn’t given them to me, stating that he has his own vouchers and doesn’t use trip advisor ones. When I asked if the writing on the voucher was his his didn’t accept or deny it .

Food was really tasty and just cooked perfect. Staff are really friendly and talkative. Definitely recommend going there

Excellent as always. By far the best sit down or takeaway in town .. top food and great guys if carlsberg does takeaways this would be great. Luckily i am not fond of Carlsberg . Luckily i love Cobra and they have more than enough for anyone.. get there and check it out for yourselves if your in the area. You will not be dissapointed

The restaurant was quite busy when I visited and I wondered if the recommendation from a colleague would turn out to be wrong. It wasn’t; the food is reasonably priced and really delicious. The menu has lots of choices so there is something for everyone. I will definitely be back.

Got a table without booking and were welcomed by friendly staff who were immaculately turned out. The restaurant looked very well maintained with modern decor.

Went Sunday 13/5/18 was very busy but meal was produced in reasonable time. Very good quality & quantity.I usually polish off my partners meal as well as mine, but could not even finish my own! She had a chicken buna, me a chicken vindaloo with rice, chips & nan, came to under £25.

All in all a very average curry. Nothing special. Prices reflect this as they are cheaper than some others. Chef does not use so much oil in the sauce which is good. I will go again for a cheap eat out.

The food is amazing one of the best curries I’ve had, the staff are fantastic from the manager to the waiters, they are friendly and make you feel very welcome. Everyone who we spoke to as in staff from the manger, waiters and delivery driver were all so friendly, we will definitely make this our go to Indian restaurant!!!!

Had a takeaway for Christmas Eve with family. Food was stunning! Eaten there before and it’s always been very good. Vindaloo is very pokey! Thank you, will be back and recommend.

restaurant busy with takeaways and deliveries but we were still made very welcome and served efficiently and in good time. Food is delicious and you get large portions. Usually have to take a doggy bag home which is never a problem. Ace the head man there is always so cheery, energised and friendly. He makes everyone feel welcome and as if he has been waiting just for you to return!

Visited here on Friday Dec 1st - two couples. Great friendly service which was very very good. Our waiters couldn't do enough for us. Food was outstanding and served quickly. Prices including drinks were very reasonable. Quality of the food was also very very good. My Dhansak was superb - and the portion size was enormous!!! Three of our party took the majority of their meals home!!!! Will be making this a regular stop from now on. Highly recommended

We visited Tamarind last night having driven past many times thinking it was takeaway only. What a great surprise! The food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes (including some less usual ones) made to order and served piping hot. The staff were friendly and professional, decor modern, everything spotless. Well worth a visit.

We have a weekly takeaway from Tamarind and an occasional ‘sit down’ meal and have always had a great meal. Friendly and helpful staff when we collect. We would highly recommend this restaurant

We were out in town with friends this weekend for a drink with the intention of having an Indian meal later that night. Time flew by and it was 11.45pm before we knew it so basically resigned ourselves to a late night dirty kebab or the like as you will usually struggle to get a table that late in Abergavenny. The wife said "lets go to the Tamarind." She had just rang them up there and then and they said to come on down. Four of us all chose different meals and they were all outstanding, fresh, tasty, plentiful, and piping hot.

We have used the Tamarind for many years and it's been a little up and down. (Had a few name changes)However, Its turned a corner and both the food and service is fantastic!

I go here most weekends they have a starter called pepper chicken its a whole pepper stuffed with chicken which is great & i much prefer my self the dry dishes tandoori chicken on the bone & chicken shashlick these are my 2 main dishes the quality of the chicken is very good its always cooked fresh & of good portion sizes really cant fault these dishes.

We have been eating curry from here for many years - it has had its up and downs with lots of name changes - however the standard of food has always been good. We had a Sunday night takeaway treat - we collected, the food was piping hot & very tasty - large portions too - so enough leftovers for a midweek treat too The hubby is a bit of a curry fanatic & says, no matter where we go, it’s always “not as good as we get in Aber!” Very pleasant guys there too. Couldn’t fault our Sunday treat

I have a takeaway from here every week (mostly delivered) and in general have always been happy with both the service and the food.

We have been eating at this restaurant for over 18 years, it's changed names several times over the last few years however the food and service is still great.

I was not adventurous but had excellent food at a reasonable price. The menu contaiuned some dishes i have not tried or heard of. The decor is great, the service good. Opposite the bus sation, whch has free parking after 5pm

I have just finished my second takeaway this evening in as many weeks and the quality of food was again A1!

We visited the Tamarind for my husbands birthday. Busy evening, would recommend booking as there didn't appear to be a free table in the house that night. Service was exemplary and the food delicious. Poppadoms and chutneys to start, including a spicy red chutney which was absolutely delicious.

Tonight we were delivered the worst ever takeaway meal ,we ordered a chicken madras and a chicken curry,2chapatis and a garlic naan.The naan was hard and inedible,both the curries were completely tasteless,what seemed like a packet sauce gloopy with no curry flavour,no herbs,spices,onion or garlic, added to the gloop was tasteless boiled chicken.Our Friday night treat a disappointing ripoff.Will never use them again.

Met up post-Christmas with several friends for a catch-up over a curry.

Over the past couple of months I have both eaten in the restaurant and had a take away meal and every time it's been amazing. Having eaten in many of the Indian restaurants in the area I would definitely say the Tamarind in a cut above the rest. A real authentic and delicious Indian meal.

I ordered a meal to be delivered for myself and my daughter at 6:20pm but the meal finally arrived at 8:10pm. I was told on the phone when ordering that it would be with me in 45 minutes which is what I expected. After an hour had passed I rang them and was told the meal was on its way. We continued to wait another 20 minutes and rang again to be told the meal had just been picked up by the driver. By this point we were both very hungry and pretty fed up of waiting. When the meal finally arrived almost 2 hours after ordering it, there was no apology for the delay and the delivery man literally said 2 words to me. Our meal was cold and the chips were like cardboard. I was very disappointed as I usually enjoy a takeaway from here. We definitely won't be ordering again in a hurry!

A restaurant we have frequented but it has changed it's name again and had a refurb. Contemporary decor, lighting a little stark but pleasant enough. However the food is as divine as ever. Lovely menu with plenty of choice. The flavours are aromatic and so enjoyable. The service is always excellent and they made the effort to magic up a pistaccio kulfi for my husband despite saying they had none. Much appreciated as it was his birthday!

Pop in whilst staying in area on business. Nice decor, friendly staff. Food was good with well balanced menu, good range of drinks. Recommend will visit again

My usual Curry House of choice is very nearby but I was out with a couple of mates a few weeks ago and one of them said lets have a change and try the Tamarind so I begrudgingly agreed and fair play the food was superb and plenty of it. All three of us had different starters and a load of popadoms, three different mains, me a Maharaja Bhuna, my mates a Lamb Chilli Balti(mate from the big city, Cardiff commented the best he had tasted) and a Chicken Madras with various rices and chips and keema nans all washed down with a couple of pints of chilled Cobra.

I visited the Tamarind the other week, despite being advised against it.

Decor was good ,atmosphere was appealing but food was a total let down. very bland no taste to it at all ,left food but wasn't approached by staff to ask why.

Have eaten there and had a takeaway. Food absolutely delicious- both for meat eaters and veggies. My husband uses a biryani as a marker for good curry restaurants - he thought it was high in his top 5 of biryani. Veggies - they were happy to create a veggie curry for me (I like paneer, mushrooms and peas in a range of sauces).

Being used to being disappointed by curry houses we went to Tamarind with no great expectation: how wrong we were. We are so pleased to find somewhere locally that we can use ourselves and also recommend to friends. We have now been to Tamarind twice and will be returning soon.

Having tried out one of their other locations before I was confident this restaurant would be the same and that it was. Fantastic food and very friendly staff!

My husband and I visited this restaurant last weekend. It was our third time and again we were not disappointed. Staff are very friendly and the food is very good. The portions are a good size. We are taking family to this restaurant next weekend and are really looking forward to it

We have tried all of the Indian restaurants in Abergavenny and when a new one opens we had to give it a try. The restaurant has been totally refurbished by new owners and the menu is new and very tempting. Food very good and big portion sizes , service efficient and friendly. Will be back for more, highly recommended.

the take away menu states free delivery within 3 mile radius if purchase over £15. my delivery which satisfied both terms had £1 delivery added.I have asked twice why this happened and have been ignored.avoid home delivery.
