Cinnamon Tree in Monmouthshire

Ate at the Cinnamon Tree last Friday - what a treat! My friend and I have been touring England and Wales for two weeks, and this was our last meal before my friend returned to France. We could not have chosen a better finale! My friend is an excellent cook, and his view was that it surpassed anything he could do. The flavours were extraordinary; we chose four starters between us to get a wide range of tastes and textures, and we couldn't have been more impressed. If you like Indian food - any food - go here!!

Best restaurant I have ever been to! Not only are the staff so kind and willing to help it holds the best curry I have ever eaten. I used to not like curry's AT ALL but after going to this restaurant I will eat them very happily (only at the cinnamon tree though :D) The decor is beautiful especially the patterned wallpaper and the music is a lovely selection. Overall, this was definitely a 10/10 experience. There was even talk after our trip to make it a monthly tradition! So if you are near Abergavenny and are looking for an INCREDIBLE restaurant to go to for a meal then why don't you pay a visit to the cinnamon tree. You have to trust me on this one!

As good as ever! We don’t live locally anymore so haven’t eaten here for 6 months but it was our go to place! We returned today and the food is as good as ever, as well as the service etc! I’d recommend the mixed grill garlic chilli 10/10!

When I got my Indian home, it was pork and not king prawn. I was also given the wrong naan bread and the popadoms were stale. The curry itself tasted nice but I couldn’t eat the meat. Don’t order online and check before you leave the restaurant.

Load of business lefets have been dumped outside flats and are blowing..around isn't there enough rubbish to pick up...tried to explain to manger he didn't care....there to lazybto post menus through people's letting box...they may throw rubbish on the ground where your from but not here ...andnafter that's manager reply your the last restaurant I would ever eat in....piss poor attitude

We just popped in here whilst travelling home, the food was delicious, cooked beautifully and was very tasty. The staff were friendly and chatty, and we discussed travel and language. Brilliant!

Chicken Tikka Masala and pilau rice..lovely and flavoursome as always.. friendly. Nice chilled atmosphere..belly full..eyes shut! As they say in SA after a good meal

Did not have a great experience here . Firstly the lemonade was flat so asked for that to be swapped which was done without trouble . We ordered the cinnamon special starter for £9.95 - absolutely dreadful for the price - 4 pieces of tiny thin meat and 1 small onion baji, tasted fine but not the best (picture attached) . We did mention that it was poor for the price and the sever gave us 4 more pieces without being asked which was nice of him but he did not seem happy about it . I think if this dish was priced more reasonably it wouldn’t have been an issue . The chicken tikka masala was mediocre , same for chips and rice . Naan bread was nice . Overall I would skip this restaurant for the price it is just not worth it compared to other Indian restaurants in the surrounding area .

This is a fantastic Indian restaurant in Abergavenny! We ordered the chicken shashlik and chicken balti and both were excellent (especially the chicken shashlik)! We were the only group eating in the restaurant the night we were there, but there were a lot of take-out and delivery orders going out the door. We would definitely recommend The Cinnamon Tree!

Bangladeshi food but very oily..

Lovely food and lovely people. Always a smile and a welcome. I like my food spicy but not too hot so chicken korai is my favourite. Always enough for me to bring home a doggy bag for the next day. Visit regularly

Fantastic Indian restaurant with first class service and food, whether eating in or taking away. I complete a 20 mile round trip to get a takeaway and it is definitely worth the drive.

My second visit and I’d go back again. The staff are very friendly and the food is very nice. I think we had tandoori chicken and the chicken chilli garlic masala with some popadoms. There is parking on the main road outside but there aren’t many spaces so I think the nearest two car parks are the ones that are opposite Morrisons or the one behind the Angel hotel which are a few minutes walk.

As someone who has eaten at many Indian/ Bangladeshi restaurants over the last 35 years, the quality of the food , service and value for money at the Cinnamon Tree was up there with the best. All the meals were perfectly cooked and served piping hot. Will definitely be back.

Bland rezela curry - full of big chunks of onion rather than much meat. Tasted more like a Chinese curry. Tarka Dahl very soupy and also lacking any depth of taste. Very disappointed

I have a life threatening nut allergy stopped eating Indian about 7 years ago after having a few reactions, really craving it tonight after all Christmas foods, so gave it a go, called and asked about nut policy and was reassured they used no nuts in the kitchen.. I am soooo happy I went for it and ordered, food was gorgeous! Gutted they forgot my opinion chutney but apart from that delighted

My wife and I ate here tonight, Christmas Eve, as a special treat. Great welcome, great service, wonderful food. Indian food as good as, if not better, than anywhere else locally. We were so impressed we've booked for New Year's Eve. I thouraghly recommend the Cinnamon Tree to lovers of Indian food.

Haven't had a takeaway for a while and have always had a fantastic meal. Tonight it was exceptional. Thanks Ronnie as usual excellent service.

I have been around the world from London to Bombay eating Indian food/cuisine. I think it would be impossible to beat Indian food in India - BUT this is one of the best places to eat in this area. The standard is high, food is fantastic !, prices are so, so reasonable (they should charge more....). I love Indian food, even been to India a couple of times. Also went to the oldest Indian restaurant (in London) "Veeraswamy", very expensive but quite nice. THE CINAMON TREE is every bit as good. Staff are attentive, prices are too cheap and the food is outstanding. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed. I guarantee it. Paul from Abergavenny

Excellent meal, infact the best curry I've ever had. They adapted a meal for me which was peneer Korai. I'm a vegetarian and this was fantastic. My partner had a chicken Dopiaza and enjoyed it a lot. We also ordered a cheese nan which we've never seen before and an onion rice which I've never seen before. Both were very tasty and we enjoyed a lot. Can't wait to visit again when we're up this way. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were lovely and friendly. The restaurant was spotless.

We ordered a takeaway meal from the Cinnamon Tree and it was excellent. Probably the best takeaway curry we’ve ever had. Brilliant vegetarian and meat options, really nice and hot, and so tasty. Absolutely recommend!

We love it here. Food is really delicious and staff super friendly. We generally try and visit once a month. Lovely dips and bhajees and the Biriani is great with lively fresh veggies added to the rice. Our FAV Indian EVER!!

Best takeaway I've had for a long time.

Really delicious food. We each had different dishes: Madras/Balti/Passanda. Couldn’t fault any of them. Friendly staff too. The only downside: When I phoned to book a table I asked about wheelchair access & was told it was suitable. However on arrival there’s a small step & a steeper one to get into the restaurant & no disabled toilet facilities.

Visited Wales for the first time and this is the best curry I’ve had to date and I love curry! So delicious and the service was excellent. I wish this place would relocate to London!

A very friendly, good quality and value Indian restaurant. We took youngsters there early, and all the staff were very helpful, high chairs provided and were extremely pleasant with the toddlers. Even gave them some free ice-cream! I had special fish bhuna, was really nice. All the meals were great. No complaints Definitely will return and have takeaways from here. Thank you

First takeaway from the Cinnamon Tree, Abergavenny. What can I say, outstanding food. Large portions, way too much for me. Will definitely be back for a takeaway or sit-down meal in the restaurant.

Great flavours, really good food

We had an absolutely fabulous dinner at The Cinnamon Tree last Thursday evening. The staff were great and nothing was too much for them. The food was divine, a little too much for us to finish, so they happily gave us a box to take away leftovers home. Thank you guys, you have a little gem of a restaurant. 10 out of 10.

Myself and 2 friends attended here last night (booked in advance) and we were extremely pleased with the food. The restaurant was quiet so there was no real need to book but i guess that's normal for a Tuesday evening. I had the Chicken Tikka Dupiaza which was beautiful - the sauce was plentiful and you could really taste the onion was the base of the dish, as it should be with a Dupiaza. Keema Rice was lovely. Both of my friends really enjoyed their dishes as well, one was quite surprised at the cost for a Butter Chicken coming in at just short of £15 but to be fair, she did say it was worth every penny (most other dishes are priced as you would expect for an Indian Restaurant). The service was perfectly pleasant from both the Manager and the server - we will definitely be returning for our Monthly Curry Nights.

We recently visited The Cinnamon Tree on a Sunday evening for dinner. Due to a change in plans, we didn’t arrive until 20:30 (hadn’t booked a table), however the staff were very accommodating despite it being fairly late. We ordered poppadoms and a chutney tray, followed by staters of chicken chat and prawn puri. The puri wasn’t something I’d tried before, but had read previous reviews where people raved about it, so decided to give it a go, and I was definitely not disappointed! Really tasty and something I’d have again next time. For mains we ordered chicken tikka pathia, chicken korai, chips and a garlic naan. The spices in both curries were beautifully balanced and we thoroughly enjoyed them both (I couldn’t finish all of mine, but the staff kindly boxed the rest up for me to have for lunch the following day!). It’s worth mentioning as well that all the food came out piping hot from the kitchen, so you didn’t feel like it had been sitting around at all. Along with a few of pints of Cobra, the bill came to £60 which I thought was very reasonable for such a great meal. I’d definitely return in future and 100% recommend.

Ordered the set meal to try this out for regular takeaway. Took 1 1/2 hours to deliver, we called to check after 1 hr and a quarter, when food arrived it was cold and not great quality. Most of the dishes were brown/ green in colour and little flavour apart from the chicken tikka masala, the tarka daal was like water (it went down the drain). Maybe they were having an off day but we won’t be going back

I was unexpectedly stuck in Abergavenny overnight waiting for my van to be repaired, and I fancied a curry (I’m from Birmingham - we love a curry!). This was one of the best I’ve ever had. Very quiet Wednesday night visit, but I can categorically say this is the best sit in curry that I have had in a very long time , great portion size and very tasty curry, Beer as always is a tad over priced but 1 or 2 with the meal won't break the bank, 4 people with poppadoms naans 7 beers and a few soft drinks was a tad under £100 not bad at £25 per head.

We’re not local to the area and are only here for the weekend, but we are so pleased we found the Cinnamon Tree. It was the best Indian meal we have had. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We definitely want to come back here and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Maybe an off night but chicken tikka and bombay aloo is not diffecult to do, chicken was not marinated at all, just sliced white breast, bombay aloo was just tasteless potato mush. Very poor indeed. Back to the Balti Delight I think.

Very fresh and comforting Indian and Bengali dishes cooked very nicely with good flavour and cooking of the various spices. Some dishes probably need a bit a more seasoning to balance out the dishes and bring out the spices better, but apart from that it was a very good meal and definitely value for money. The naan breads here are exceptional, so definitely order at least one for the table as they are bigger enough to share. The staff and service are very nice, friendly and welcoming.

I tried one of the new menu items this evening (Kata Mansher Masala - vindaloo hot) which was superb..... Flavoursome with a great balance of spice. There are a few other new additions too, which I’m looking forward to trying over the coming weeks.

Found this via tripadvisor when on a recent family break in the area. What a find. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. There are probably curry houses with posher tables, cutlery etc but the things that matter, food, service and price are absolutely fantastic....

I’m veggie and ordered a veg biryani and sag paneer but wanted a bit of extra protein in my meal, so I discussed with the waiter and he said he’d ask the chef to put some chick peas in - these didn’t materialise. The sag...

Had a takeaway delivered absolutely terrible! Containers half full, no flavour to any dish I had, naan bread burnt and the chicken pakoras where fried for that long I could of crumbled them into dust in with my fingers. If you are going to run a restaurant as a business at least put some passion and love into the food and don't just run it for money. I should of just stuck with Regancy 59 at least they are consistent and always produce beautiful fresh food.

We used the take away service several times whilst on our stay in the area and all enjoyed the food. Recommended if you are in the area.

Really good quality take away. In the middle of moving house and just wanted something quick so didn’t eat in the restaurant. Very pleasant service and provided in the time advised. Food was really good quality and tasted very good with a variety of heat and spices in the dishes we ordered. Definitely will return.

We were four adults in our party which had booked a table in advance. We were given a nice friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our table. We ordered drinks before studying the menus, all requesting different meals. The lady serving the table was particularly very friendly and smiling, helping to warm the atmosphere. Our meals were all tasty and well cooked,however my meat content a feel was a little sparse. Perhaps I am a little greedy but having waited all day to dine out I needed more, thus I have deducted a point. Overall everything was lovely and we will certainly revisit in the future. Thank you Cinnamon Tree and Thank You Chancellor for the discount. Dining on a Monday evening is a little disorienting it has mixed my week up.

I have a curry from here every week without fail and the quality is consistently good. They offer a delivery service too which is convenient.

First time I have tried this restaurant, had a Chicken Saag. Gorgeous. Not oily like some others, v tasty.

Visited here sat 22nd feb with friends. I am sorry I haven’t tried the cinnamon tree before, the staff were friendly and the food was superb, very tasty, and the nicest I have tasted in a long time. Will definitely be returning.
