Delicious Indian food in Abergavenny. My favourite dish was the murgh hydra badi and it was fantastic. 100% the best Indian Restaurant in Abergavenny.

We may have cought Bayleaf on a bad day... Saturday 2nd November 2024, 1900hrs. We thought we'd get a quick takeaway on the way home. It took ages to be made which we wouldn't have minded if the quality was reasonable. Chips were either undercooked or reheated several times as they were hard and stale. Prawn curry had a metallic aftertaste. Chicken curry was fine and we enjoyed that. Lamb madras had a nice kick to it but lacked flavour. Not the usual thick sauces in any of the dishes. (Watered down) 6/10

Delicious Indian food at the heart of Abergavenny! Excellent service from the young and experienced staff, but the food was to die for, the Sizzling Monipuri was full of flavour and it came on a Sizzler! Definitely the best Indian restaurant in Abergavenny and a great cosy atmosphere. Make sure to book as they get very Busy!

Last time we use these for delivery Ordered at 6.45,delivery came at 9 and was luke warm,not the 1st time this has happened but definitely the last We was really looking forward to it,its not cheap and most of it went in the bin Shame really as a lot of our friends on caravan site use them but not now

I have been using this restaurant for many years. I ordered a takeaway and paid in advance through thier website as I have done many times. Collection was at 8.50pm. I arrived at 9pm expecting it to be ready. I was asked to take a seat. I waited and waited. A lady came in and collected her order.... I waited and waited. At 9.30 my order came out. A 40 minute wait for a pre-ordered takeaway is unacceptable. During my 30 wait no body said a word to me. Terrible service. Never again.

Just wanted to say went with my family and friends and the young man with the beard was such a lovely lad. (forgot to ask for his name) The food was amazing i have no words to describe it and best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Would definitely recommend. the people and staff are so lovely and friendly. customer service exquisite and the overall design of the restaurant really caught my eye.

I've only ordered food from Bayleaf to takeaway so I cannot comment on the service or atmosphere. However, I can say that the food (Meat Thali: for one person- £25) has been delivered in a timely manner and has been thoroughly enjoyable every time. I would recommend giving this place a try.

Celebrating Mother's Day at Bayleaf was a preem experience. I opted for the Chicken Tikka Biryani, and I must say, it was leng. The portion size was generous, offering great value for money. The staff were incredibly friendly, adding to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend

Have had food delivered from here many times but this was my first sit in meal. The food is great and staff are really friendly with good service Edit - if your ordering a delivery then expect up to two hours waiting - website say 60 minutes, order confirmation will add on another >10 minutes and I have waited a further half hour on top, with no communication. This has happened with the past five orders so seems to be the norm. When you find their number and call, they are not sure whether your order is out for delivery or not. Or may ask of you can now collect instead. I hope they can improve their delivery service as it’s been disappointing.

Staff were lovely and very welcoming. The food we had to wait a little longer than we normally would but it absolutely worth the wait as the quality of what we ordered was superb. I would rather wait slightly longer to have the quality and taste of food that we received than rushed and be of poor flavour. The size of the meals were great, so we asked for the remainder of the meals to be packed up to take home which they did immediately for us. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and we will be back soon. Was a lovely night out for 6 of us 🌟

This was the first time we’d been to Bayleaf but it won’t be the last. We were on the ground floor which is quite small but it looks like there is more room upstairs. The decor was excellent as was the welcome from the staff. We all (4 of us) had different food which was excellent. Service was friendly and very efficient and not ‘overpowering’. Would definitely recommend it

First of all, the food was delicious. Nothing wrong with the food at all. The service on the other hand was terrible, our table was booked for 7pm and we didn't start receiving our food until 8:30pm. Not only that, but some of our group received their rice and other sides 10-15 minutes after receiving their curry which meant the curry was then cold.

Ordered from Uber Eats at 6.50pm and food was due between 7.25-7.45pm. I rang at 8pm and they told me the food was ‘leaving the kitchen in a few mins’ and would add in some extras for the delay. The food arrived at 8.25pm and it was not worth the wait. An hour’s delay for food that was cold, oily and my paratha was under cooked (doughy). I ordered saag aloo and it was nothing like the saag I have in my Indian household (that my grandmothers would make). We didn’t receive any extras. The Bayleaf used to be great but as with most of the Indian restaurants/takeaways in Abergavenny, I feel the food quality as well as customer service has gone down hill.

Deliciously light and flavoursome food and service to match.

Bit of a long wait for takeaway even though quiet inside. Food good but side salads are very small and pathia could be hotter as no chilli heat at all which is expected. Nonetheless very tasty and will definitely visit again.

Food always beautiful but put upstairs and was very cold as they hadn't long opened but the food and lovely staff made up for it

Visited last weekend. Really not the best. Onion bahji starter, over cooked outside dry in the middle. Biriani powdery/dry basmati rice. Guys were pleasant enough but i went there to eat will not visit again

One of the best takeaways I have ever eaten. Food ordered via their website, delivered to our campsite within an hour. All food was hot and very tasty. Delicious currys, plentiful generous portions. Wish I lived nearer to enjoy this more often!

We have been regularly eating at the Bayleaf for around 30 years, in this time it has changed hands many times but generally it's almost always been good or very good, being very honest currently it's slipping, culminating in our meal last Friday night being quite poor! I generally order a very nice dish "chicken shashlik", I know this dish exceptionally well, Friday my wife decided to try chicken shashlik as well, if you eat chicken shashlik you will know the ingredients. It is one of the more expensive dish's on most Indian restaurant menus ! Friday's offering at the Bayleaf WAS NOT chicken shashlik as I know it, it was very expensive chicken with onions! Now let's look at the whole dining experience, first the drinks order it was late arriving and wrong! Next the papadums and side chutney's were excellent, now we come to the chicken shashlik as said a dish I have eaten many hundreds of times many in the Bayleaf! well both our meals consisted of chicken served with half a tomato and loads of onions, it was served on a on a sizzler dish that was NOT SIZZLING, the salad that accompanies the dish and is served as a bed was full of lettuce with black tips on the chopped ends (it was old) that had to be picked out, I asked the waiter WHY this poor salad was served but unfortunately his communication skills were not good! Generally we were served Total RUBBISH! Now to the staff, I only recognised one person, all the others were different, I asked had the staff changed and was told no, but something has changed and not for the better. I asked for the bill paid the £40 asked (full up) and left, such a shame the Bayleaf is off our places to eat list, it's a huge loss. I have left many reviews for the Bayleaf over the years all positive until today, just check them on here!

The food was delicious and cooked to the level of spice that we wished. Portions were generous. We had to take some home as we could not eat it all. The waiter spent time with us to help us choose. We had a very enjoyable evening in the restaurant with our family who were visiting from abroad. We look forward to going again sometime as we live in Abergavenny.

Ordered a delivery on a Tuesday evening, told it would be 45mins to an hour. Called on the hour as not arrived-told it would be soon. called at 1.5 hours, told they were busy, I asked if it would be with me in the next 15 minutes at which point they guy on the phone started talking to another customer--really bad, asked them to cancel the order. Such a shame as we had just started to go there in preference to other curry houses. Can I suggest that honesty to a customer or a call saying it's delayed, this is surely a simple thing to do and keep your customers happy. Disappointed.

Turned up without a booking, staff very accommodating. Service was brilliant and food was fantastic. Good selection of wines. Chose a variety of food from a Chicken Vindaloo to Child’s chicken nuggets and chips. Glad we called in 👍🏻 Very well priced too.

Genuinely the worse meal I've ever had. The naan was meant to be a large balti naan but a rather thin, plain, very small piece of rock solid bread came that we couldn't even tear. The saag aloo was bland and cold and the chicken tikka biryani tasted of powdery tikka spice as did the mixed starter platter. Overall its the worse meal ever had. It was genuinely inedible.

Lovely friendly place staff could not be more helpful came here as passing and just fancying an Indian and just happened to stop outside 😀 will definitely return when in the area even let us take out what we could not manage what was ordered. thank you and hope you stay successful and hope to return again

I ordered a takeaway with the minimum spend of 15£ plus delivery fee. I don’t eat meat so chose a vegetable main and two veg side dishes, the Bombay aloo was not tomato based but creamy? The main paneer and vegetable madras curry was just bright red sauce with a few untried paneer chunks in it and no vegetables, the sag paneer had a speck of spinach in another dubiously creamy? Grainy sludge…very oily and bland, sorry.

We are regular diners at the Bayleaf, fantastic service, quality food and the recently updated interior all contribute to a great experience.

I'm lucky enough to have eaten in some of the best Indian restaurants in Britain. I genuinely believe The Bayleaf could and should rank amongst them. The quality of their food is just outstanding, a true tour de force, highly original, highly recommended.

We have regular takeaways from Bayleaf, however, tonight was very poor as the food was simply cold and not upto the usual standard. One mains dish was tandoori chicken, a small portion but very oily and not worth the price tag. Our sons chips were hard and cold plus all the other food items were. Very disappointed especially paying what we did and waiting so long for it to arrive. Delivery has been slow on the last few orders. Not a happy customer and shall give this takeaway a break for a while.!

Just had the best Indian food on a wet, miserable Tuesday in November. Cosy and welcoming with great, friendly service. The food was delicious. We had lamb pasanda, chicken pasanda, chicken tikka masala and vegetable paneer. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend. Thank you Habib!

Bayleaf is by far the best around we have tried loads around and have gone back to this one the food is amazing everything is perfect staff is friendly can’t do enough for you, fast serving food and always boiling hot when it come we will be back with the family very soon , we always recommend this place to family and friends xx

The restaurant is conveniently situated in the town centre close to a large car park, where parking is free after 6pm. We tried something new: the Gustaba. Two of us had the chicken and the lamb Gustaba. The sauce was tasty and not too spicy...

Half way through my takeaway and just got to write a review... My friend Hugo and I are circus tent riggers and we travel all over the country all summer and this establishment is a real Gem. One of the best Currys I've had anywhere all season... And to top it all off the portions are great... Yesterday we went to the restaurant. I ordered a lamb korma, although a simple meal I use this as a baseline with Indian restaurants. The food was lukewarm, korma was poor in the flavour and texture, I ordered coke and it was flat as a pancake and others in the table all said the same …flat. When the bill arrived they charge more than the menu price adding up to 50p on some items, and bill did not allow splitting for example drinks were out down as one item. I woke up twice last night being sick. I put it down to the food. Don’t think I will go back here again

Ordered some food today. South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken and Lamb Tikka Chops. The spices in the food was raw, nothing was toasted. South Indian Garlic chilli chicken barely had any garlic in it, also, they literally filled it up with chilli powder when I clearly said to use green chillies. What surprised me was the "lamb" was not even lamb, they are using sheep meat. When I called them regarding the issue, they said "this is the way we make it, deal with it" I was so shocked hearing that. I regularly have Indian takeaways and have dined in many restaurants and my favourite has been South Indian Garlic chilli chicken. But trust me, it was not the curry they're selling. So be aware! Don't take me wrong I have ordered from them before as well, but only vegetarian dishes. They are decent. My suggestion is stay away from protein curries.

I was disappointed I hadn't been for a few years and used to think it was the best in the area. I had chicken Biriyani but it was pretty tasteless & far too much. The veg curry with it was almost all green beans too. I remembered it being so good so a shame & it was my Birthday too glad I had gone to London prior weekend to celebrate! I'm not sure I'll go back although staff were lovely and restaurant decor all very tasteful.

Amazing food, attentive staff and reasonable price. Plenty of parking just opposite in the car park. Reccommend the white fish jhoo as an alternative to meat. Medium heat and coconut rice. Gorgeous.

Cant rate this place enough. They accomodated 10 of us at short notice. Welcoming and polite. Food was one of the best ive had, no complaints from the group. We were allowed to take in a birthday cake and they couldnt do enough to help with it. All in all, i highly recommend this restaurant. You wont be disappointed. Thankyou to you all at the Bayleaf xx

Our first visit, every box ticked, excellent food, and plenty of it, good atmosphere, and friendly staff. The restaurant is bright and very comfortable, with soft music just loud enough to allow you to talk without raising your voice. The food was absolutely delicious, and we never felt hurried at any point, with enough time between courses. If I could give 100 stars it might just be enough. Would I recommend this restaurant? In a heartbeat! Looking forward to another visit already!

Busy night on New Year’s Eve. These guys were working hard and had a lot of orders but my food was exquisite as always. Well done and all the best for 2022!
