Booked to celebrate father’s birthday. We had burgers and desserts. Great food with great and attentive service from Haseeb and Brett

From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with a warm Welsh welcome from Haseeb who was prompt and polite and showed us to a table. We had a drinks order taken within a matter of minutes - we ordered cocktails (very well made Long Island Iced Teas) which went down a treat and I highly recommend. The food was prompt, hot, plentiful and tasty! This was our first visit and it most certainly will not be our last!

Make no mistake. The food here is really good: the Texan Dawg was brilliant and very filling. Tried a cheeky Long Island Iced Tea too, and that was really nice as well (a lot of places mess this cocktail up, so it was nice to find somewhere that made a good one!). Great service from friendly and welcoming staff. So why not 5 stars? It's phenomially expensive!

Really nice place to eat, great food and great staff. Couldn’t ask for anything more. I’d definitely call again when I’m staying over in that area.

Called here to celebrate international womens day with my wife, place was almost empty especially for a friday evening and very cold. We came with a discount voucher which swayed our decision to eat here. Small menu and very pricey . Our discount was wiped out by service charge which was on the bill. Food was so so and some of the prices on the bill were higher than on the menu which I discovered only when I arrived home. Will not be visiting this place again

Food and service was absolutely brilliant and the staff were friendly and very professional. Couldn’t have done more for the customers. My server was Agne and she was amazing, lovely lady and great attitude!. I had a steak and the picture speaks for itself, it was gorgeous!!

Good value in this bar and grill situated adjacent to the Ty Hotel. Not far to stagger home after eating the best ribs in Wales!

We dined here last night,as part of the hotel ‘Ty’ hotel meal deal. What a lovely evening it was! From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a friendly young lad , who seated us, gave us menus and drinks. Nothing was too much trouble. They were very attentive throughout our visit. Would definitely recommend a visit whether staying at hotel or not. Meal was 10/10, as was the rating for the staff. Thank you for making us feel so welcome

Chose this place, as found Celtic Manor booking website a nightmare. So,more by accident, than intent.However, so glad I did. It is truly a gem. Fabulous food, 3 of us had the beef and one the risotto. From entering the premises, a lovely greeting, the service was first class.Presentation,of the food was an awesome sight to behold. Everything was delicious, from main,to dessert, my taste buds were in heaven.Will definitely be returning. Would like to give the staff a big thank you for enhancing an already enjoyable experience

Booked a table for 2 after booking in to Ty Hotels Newport now part of Celtic Manor group. Didn't feel like driving back into Newport for a meal with my Wife after literally going to see a man about a dog. So we checked in and booked a table for 2. Not expecting much from this American themed bar and grill Frankie and Bennys going on in my head. However Ok menu has a few steaks, few burgers, hot dogs ,pizza, Pasta etc. Considering its a way off the beaten track it was reasonably busy. Just wanted something to eat basically my Wife opted for their signature ribs served with BBQ sauce, slaw, crispy fries and I opted for grilled Salmon on a bed of vegetables, roast potatoes and a sweet chilli sauce theme going through it. Both meals were stunning i should really have known it would be due to the Celtic Manor influence. Nothing like F&B's we thoroughly enjoyed everything. Just a shame we live in Swansea otherwise we would eat here regularly.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch, the restaurant was almost empty, and very cold.Service was very good, and we enjoyed our meals however it really was too cold to fully enjoy the experience. The toilets were in poor condition, dirty and no toilet paper.Not sure if we would return.

Haven't visited for a while, and will not being going again. The menu is limited, and apparently "al a carte". How can an American diner be "al a carte". I cant really fault the food, it was lovely, but £45+ for 1 nacho starter, 2 burgers and 3 halves of cider is a rip off. If I had known that the Celtic Manor had its finger in this pie, I would never have gone. Sawyers was an authentic American diner,now it is over priced burgers.

Only one other table occupied on arrival although other diners arrived shortly afterwards. Welcome was warm and friendly with service attentive but not fussy. Food was tasty; seafood tagliatelle.

Booked the set meal on a whim for new year's day. The welcome was superb the meal great and the service was brilliant. We were all fully stuffed when we left. A great family place, reasonably priced,relaxed atmosphere and good food all you can ask for.

Exceptionally good value, tasty food. I ordered the new year’s day three-course, including the super salad which bursted with flavour and colour, the salmon terrorise which was highly tender and succulent, and then the winter cheesecake for a final festive firework of flavour. Added to this the prompt, sincere service and friendliness of Kirsty in particular – oh, and the very relaxed atmosphere – I was very pleased indeed! Would love to go back!

First visit with family for grandsons birthday ( his choice as he’s been before with parents). Large menu, so lots of choice. Food was excellent, lots of it & great value. Attentive, friendly staff, excellent service

Just popped in for a Sunday Dinner with my wife. I have got to say, that it was absolutely fantastic, huge portions and very tasty. The staff were great as well. Wholeheartedly recommend!

I was staying for a couple weeks in a hotel in Newport next to the restaurant. It was very handy that they are so close to each.

When staying at the nearby hotel Sawyers was recommended. When our meal was not served 45 minutes after we arrived we checked with the waiter. After investigating it appeared that our order had been lost. No problem, it was taken again and we were offers another beer. However it only arrived after we had waited another 10 minutes and had to prompt the waiter again. Our meal still hadn't arrived 30 minutes later - so another polite enquiry was made, culminating in the excuse that the salmon had to be cooked from fresh! Unfortunately my reaction was that of pure frustration and that the supervisor, Mathew, should sort out his f'n staff. At that point we were asked to leave! We left, 90 minutes after arrival, still hungry and frustrated. Exceptionally poor customer service even though the restaurant was quiet. Won't be going there again.

Ordered rump steak for £17.50, after a good half hour I got a tiny piece of chewy steak I could have bought from Asda for couple of quid. Accompaniments were a tiny bowl of chips, a large thimbleful of coleslaw, a few salad leaves. The waitress didn't know what English mustard was, I asked her for pint of beer which never arrived but still went on my bill. Beer was £5.80 a pint, in south Wales! At no point did any member of staff ask me how my meal was and I had to ask for sauces myself.

There was quite a long time to wait for the food to arrive at the table. When it came it was very good, but a bit over priced compared to other places. Two of our party had the salmon in chilli sauce which was excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The background music could have been a little quieter. All in all, a very good lunch, which would have got 5 stars but for the long delay in the food arriving, and the price.

Excellent Sunday lunch large portions lovely veg, staff very friendly would definitely recommend this we al had roast beef but saw other meals which looked lovely.

We popped in to eat with our family for Sunday lunch 2 weeks ago. The food was fantastic, service very prompt & we were very well looked after by a friendly lady called Kirsty.

A clean, modern bar/restaurant with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our pizza and burger/fries were perfectly cooked, generous portions and quality ingredients. The staff were really friendly and were happy to accommodate our requests, which made our lunch even more enjoyable (and the mixed berries mocktail was AMAZING!) We'll definitely be back for seconds!

booked in via reception at the adjacent TY hotel and the food was great. Ortdered a varierty as a vamily, Hot dog, burger, pasta etc and all were lovely with great service and cooked fresh, added bonus of 15% off the bill due to us staying at the hotel. Good ambience and comfortable to eat, without being oversized or crowded

Came as a family for Sunday lunch, and we were very impressed!

Went on a Saturday evening and left quite confused about the place. We were placed directly in front of a large TV showing a football match nobody was watching where the whole setting was quite strange more set out like a cafe. We were on a deal with the adjacent hotel so choice was limited and when compared to other dishes on other tables food was not great which I always think this is disappointing. Food was ok and service was good but can’t see us rushing back.

Very average pub grub at restaurant prices. Not surprisingly it’s usually empty. Drinks also expensive but not well kept, you would think that next to a brewery the beer would be good, but it’s not.

Very good service esp from Milli had Calamari starter and Sirloin steak both very nice good selection of beers on draft, 2 minutes walk from hotel.

We stubble on this restaurant as we were staying next door and couldn't face getting back in the car. The staff were all so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was fresh, homemade and enormous portions. Very reasonably priced and no tip asked for but of course we wanted to leave an extra.

This is a nice place waslking distance from the hotel where I was staying with the family. Having had a long drive to the hotel, the last thing I wanted was to have to drive out to get to a restaurant. This is the only restaurant within walking distance so took a punt and I'm glad we went.

I was greeted with a friendly smile and the bar itself has a lively atmosphere. The food was ok and for the price I have had better.

Once again, this is possibly our 3 visit now here, service and food never disappoint. Everytime we've been it's quiet. However the website booking system needs sorting. Never received confirmation. Tried booking twice on two systems and never received confirmation. As confirmed when I arrived to the venue, nothing came through.

Their website says they're open at 10am on a Sunday for breakfast and they weren't open at all so they don't update their website at all. Not very good if you're short for time and they waste your time by giving you false opening times.

My husband and I had our 2nd visit here on Friday evening and it did not disappoint. We caught the end of the setting sun outside, then we moved inside and chose to sit at the end of the bar as we wanted a relaxed non formal evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening; the food, the atmosphere/ambience and the company/interaction of Kirsty and Bryn.

Such an amazing place to go whether it’s to sit down and enjoy some food or to have a few drinks.

This place is awesome!! Could not fault it, the staff, good and venue are top. We recently visited Sawyers after I competed at a local bodybuilding show. We had phoned and asked if we could visit 30 minutes before they were due to close. The server confirmed this would be no problem at all, we had to phone back as we hit a delay and after confirming with management they allowed us to order over the phone and stayed open for us. We were welcomed with a smile and the server and chef were very friendly. We had calamari, halloumi and sweet potato fries, burger, and they made a chicken breast burger for me, which wasn’t on the menu. The food was incredible. I would highly recommend.

A wonderful American themed restaurant located a stones throw from the Magor junction of the M4. Manager Kirsty goes above and beyond to make sure you have that Sawyer experience I had been recommended. After browsing the extensive menu, I chose the Sri Lankan curry. What a treat to actually be made by a native chef . Very tasty, lamb succulent and a hearty helping of sides. I had the chocolate brownie and ice cream for desert. Staff were friendly and very engaging. The music being played was also great. Put you in an upbeat mood. Very affordable prices, I had to do a double take when I saw the bill, so tipped them for being so nice. Can’t wait to return soon. Five stars.

Located opposite Magor brewery. Extraordinary ales beers cocktails you name it Sawyer's seems to deliver every time. Food is very good, fun atmosphere, great staff.

During our stay at the Hampton Hilton we chose to dine in here tonight. Had a fab meal and few cocktails and received great service from jack and the team. Service was good food was lovely and drinks were yummy to.

As a matter of course, I do my best to avoid stopping at Motorway Service areas. They tend to be overcrowded as well as over priced. Generally they are not very inviting or relaxing.

Can't recommend this place enough. A 2 minute pit stop off the M4 so perfect for a spot of dinner before carrying on with our journey. Food was great (mains and puddings) and service was excellent (and it takes a lot for me to say that).

Visited here with a small group as we were staying at the nearby Hampton/Hilton Hotel. This is basically a restaurant in the middle of a small industrial estate but seems to attract quite a few customers.

Fantastic food! Had a lovely experience here, the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious! Tucked away off the main road but well worth the visit!

We were staying at the nearby Hampton and needed an evening meal. Service was excellent, good range of food and drink. Steak was perfect and portions very generous. Would recommend.

Visited Sawyers Bar and Grill on a random lunch, its a nice looking restaurant with good decor and is very clean.

Dirty, grotty, two young waitresses playing clapping games behind bar instead of serving customers! I ordered penne bolognese (very hard to get wrong, right?!) It was frozen, the penne was shredded, no bolognese, it was unusually spiced. Food sent back and taken off bill, the Male waiter with medium length light brown/blonde hair was great about it and even gave me a free drink as an apology! Couldn't fault him! My partner's food was also terrible but not inedible like mine was.

After having a weekend away in Cardiff with friends we went for food at the local bar and grill as it was across the road from where we was staying. We all ordered southern stacks and when It arrived one of the meals was awful as the chicken was raw and then the others wernt much better as they all had pink bits. When sending the food back the waiter wasn’t very confident about the the place that he worked and didn’t really put our minds at ease.

We went in as a large group children too it took over 1-5 hours for food to start coming out we went there last year and the food wasn’t up to much but thought give it a second chance we’ll one more than need be it was horrible just take a look at the food bland chicken could hardly cut cold chips they should be closed down the staff are very rude and have NO manners not once was there an apology about the service next time I’m in the area it’s McDonald’s got to be a lot better than what they are serving as food

Firstly thank you all! We came in tonight as we had taken the wrong turning, after having a catalog of errors for our day out! We came in just as a very drunk customer was being rude and swearing at the 2 chaps serving! As the lady left we had to make a decision, and we were so glad we stayed!! Food was fantastic and the team were really friendly! Keep your chin up, you are all doing a fab job!

Sunday is evidently a quiet day for the restaurant, but the staff were still very attentive. Order taken quickly, can see food preparation from the restaurant. Food well prepared, nicely presented and excellent quality.

This place was nice. The starters were lovely! But the main was a bit disappointed and wasn’t all that. The drinks were nice. The service was good. We booked a few weeks in advance and they didn’t have our booking down which meant we didn’t get a good place to sit.

Enjoyed a tasty Christmas lunch here with work colleagues in the week before Christmas. Varied & festive menu, staff were very attentive & friendly and the food was delicious. Would recommend.

Like most people, I found this place whilst staying at the hotel next door. I love this type of food but what sets it apart is the service. Very friendly and welcoming on both occasions I have been and I will return when in the area again.

Accommodated 6 of us on a Sunday with no problems. Really good service, great waiter and a top notch grill.

Ate at Sawyers twice in the last week when stopping at the Hampton by Hilton on our travels. Both times brought good friendly service and freshly cooked fish and chips at a reasonable price.

We thought we were going for a quick burger and had low expectations. How wrong we were. Sawyers serves excellent food, good portions and fantastic service. We had a great time and would make a bee-line for Sawyers in preference to other supposedly more up-market places.

Have been here about six times over the last few years, we order more or less the same food - sometimes its good, others not, occasionally quite terrible - hence our last visit will be the final one. It hardly helps that its largely staffed by young people who appear to struggle with basics and the lady manager who was almost rude.

Initial issues with booking a table did put us off, however they redeemed themselves with the quality of the food which was provided.

Exactly as advertised with food beyond expectations. Too many places are getting this wrong with delayed drinks orders, luke warm food and over-complicated service....this place nails it!!!! Brilliant service, awesome smoked great tasting food and unbelievable value.

It's convenient, it has very helpful and enthusiastic young staff, there is lots of food. It is what it is. We ate there in preference to the hotel next door which I believe is owned by the same chain but had worse food.

I wanted to treat my son and father. My last visit was amazing. This time very different. Waited 5 mins to get seated. Order taken 10 mins later. Food then took 30 mins. Me and my son ordered the burgers but when they arrived had no chips slaw or corn?? Don’t they know there own menu?? I had to ask for the rest of the meal. Will never visit again.

I stay nearby at the Hampton and whereas it provides a bit of variety much of their food is typical franchise and suitable to an American palette. I wouldn't say it is bad but they reduced the menu some months back and its all pretty much the same stuff. Maybe its me but prefer less sugar in my food. But this is my opinion and i have a very European palette.

Excellent, stopped to eat here on the way to a football match in Cardiff recentlyf, I have eaten here before several times when I have stayed at Hampton By Hilton Hotel next door. Such a good authentic American Diner, excellent staff, always helpful and friendly, as it is situated just over the Severn Bridge it is an ideal stopping off to eat place, three minutes and fourty two seconds off the motorway unless you get stuck behind a van.Great portions and good value for money, I really recommend this place, especially if you are hungry.

This place is tucked away in a business park and you might not know about it if you didn't work on the park or stay in the hotel opposite (which is how we discovered it).

Our waiter Stuart was very attentive. We had nachos to start which was awesome. Our mains meal included ribs, we ordered large and they were. All portions were generous and cooked to perfection. Thank you and thanks again Stuart.

Service started off well. Warm and friendly. As the restaurant got a little busier then service went quickly downhill.

Visited for coffee which was very good. Evening deals looked good with cheap cocktails, prosecco mixers and vast selection of curry.

Visited this place twice, firstly ordered medium stake it was rather well done, on the next occasion it was perfect medium. The restaurant is a bit hidden from view. It is also a bit pricey as around you will be able to find better tastier and cheaper places to eat.

Take no notice of all the negative reviews, some people are just too miserable!!! Great service, cracking staff, free WiFi, good food, the team couldn’t do enough, very clean, fresh, inviting and very modern. I would recommend having a meal here anytime, ill be coming back, next time I’m visiting ABinbev

We visited here as locals. We come a couple of times a week for drinks. We haven't been for food for a long time. Tonight was disappointing. We ordered our food at the bar. Starters came & they were lovely. Whilst still eating the starters we were asked if we had finished because our mains were ready. Unbelievable. They took the starters away & the mains arrived straight after. No chance of a breather or even finishing the starter. Our mains came, no offer of sauces we had to ask for them & ask for more cutlery & serviettes as we had used them with our starters. The food was nice but no one asked how it was throughout. Once we had finished we sat for 20 minutes before I walked over to where the chef was cooking to ask for a take away pot because the staff weren't bothered about us. A member of staff bought these. Again we had to wait. I had to call someone and ask for the bill. The man sat on the table next to us & was yawning he wasn't interested in taking my payment. I asked him if he was tired & told him they needed to up their service. It was shocking. He didn't even reply. Took my card & payment & walked away. I won't be returning any time soon & word of mouth goes a long way. Shocking service.

Popped in here whilst staying at the adjacent Hampton Inn. Was a Sunday afternoon & was very quiet apart rom one oher couple at bar. Good menu, reasonably priced. Food quality was good. Good range of beers/lagers/cider on draught.

We ate tonight at Sawyers. We were attended to by Kirsty. She was friendly, very professional and very helpful. She made us feel very comfortable and we had a great time!

Popped in for an evening meal as we were staying at the Hampton next door. We ordered the SOUTHERN STACKER & THE CLASSIC Hotdog meal, both were nicely presented, cooked fresh to order and were nice and hot. We had so much food that we could not eat another thing after. We ordered extra onion rings but they actually let the meal down they were sadly very greasy and we ended up leaving them but overall i think we would go back even if we chose other meals.

Known for burger type meals but interesting choices and steaks, fish, pizzas on the menu. Food was nicely cooked and served quickly. Good wines and beers. Owned by hotel next door so convenient when staying there.

I was a bit concerned by some previous reviews about long waits and cold food but as we were the only people there during our Sunday lunch visit we had both great food and service. I had the Texan BBQ burger which was great (but messy), children had a sirloin steak, pizza and plain burger between them and my wife had a salad. All were really very good. Donuts to finish and we could barely move we were so full. £85 which is very reasonable for a family of five (with soft drinks all round). Will certainly go again. Might be more of a gamble at a busier time....

called in here whist staying at the hampton inn its next door the staff are good but the food well its just about ok cant say i would go again the place looks good but the food ...well just ok

We have been looking foreword to going here for a Long Time but OMG it is the most disgusting food ever if I wanted microwave food I would’ve gone and bought it And Linda McCartney can do it better it is a shame The only good thing was the member staff that served us I would not recommend for couples families or business meetings absolutely terrible

This American Diner is just across the road from the Hampton-by-Hilton Hotel. We ordered a burrito and a burger. Both looked good when they were served but the chips were cold and the burger only lukewarm.

Ate here on a Thursday and had a really nice 3 course dinner for 2. Service was fine. Have eaten here a few times and it can be a bit hit and mis depending on the Chef cooking that night, On Friday we returned and had a terrible couple of hotdog meals that we sent back as inedible. Starter and Sweet were fine. Was only offered 20% of bill but refused to pay for main courses. No arguments and we left after paying the rest of the bill. Would eat here again.

We have been a few times before and food has always been good went there tonight for my 60th birthdays meal with my children and grandchildren and I cannot fault it the food was awesome and the service we received was wonderful they bent over backwards to make my meal very special thank you sawyers will be spreading the word

I visited Sawyers with two colleagues on a cold wet Monday evening. Even so it was about 50% full, and the atmosphere was bright and welcoming, with attentive staff.

Food was OK. I didn't eat. My husband had the ribs which were quiet chewy. My son's kid pizza was under cooked and the hot dog was basic. Not worth the money. Service was poor as had to ask for service more than 3 times. Will only go if cannot get a takeaway.

Went for lunch on a recommendation. It is situated in a retail unit on a business park next to a Subway franchise. Luke warm welcome from a disinterested waitress. Inside are 4 TVs playing sports - why?? It detracts from the eating experience. The belly pork with pickled carrots was bland and the carrots weren't properly pickled. Mains hot dog with bacon bits fries and slaw was just that, nothing special. No atmosphere, bland boring food, a waitress who couldn't be bothered. Belly pork starter to share with 2 hot dogs and a coke and orange juice for £30 !! This restaurant has no identity as to what it wants to be.

We were staying at the Hampton across the road on a Sunday night so we were limited to where we could eat so this was any easy stroll across the car park.
