This was one of the best Inns in this area and used by many locals and tourists who all had great service and food both at lunch times and evenings. We are local and are now finding our way around other local places to eat. Try The Tram Inn Eardisley which is our choice to date. Also Black Mountain lodge at Glasbury is a good Sunday Lunch. Avoid Hay-on-Wye, all too expensive and not very exiting.

Found this cafe on line, glad we did, the guys were so welcoming, even the dog was welcomed in. We both had the big cooked breakfast, wow, it’s not very often I actually enjoy a cooked breakfast but this was amazing, really good quality ingredients cooked perfectly. We’d happily go back.

During our holiday in welshpool ans having searched for a pub in Mid Wales the Bradford arms seemed the best bet for lunch one day. We also liked the sound of the nearby canal and the heritage site. We arrived just after opening time with our dog and he was greeted with a bowl of water and a treat while we decided what to eat and drink. The menu, offered a good choice and the excellent cask ales and on tap cider fulfilled our immediate needs The food, excellent steak pie for one and superb faggots and mash for another were obviously locally sourced and served with ample freshly cooiked vegetables. The staff made us very welcome and we enjoyed a pleasnt 90 minutes eating drinking and being looked after by the landlord and staff. I would recommend it to anyone.

Traditional Welsh pub serving big portions of good pub food. Hot, well cooked and tasty. Service good without being intrusive. Coronavirus measures in place

I have literally just visited this cafe and while I appreciate it was busy I waited nearly 25 minutes for a toasted tea cake which was burnt to buggery and my friends had toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches which they chose to leave ….. so basically a £22.99 bill for very little. We shan’t be back

We visited the castle cafe on our trip to Hay after looking at recommendations and I'm so glad we did. We both had the steak with the most delicious chips and a garlic mayo. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. I felt a draught and Izzy, one of the waiting staff, helpfully got me a blanket for my knees. There's something for everyone on the menu and for all budgets.

We haven't had Chinese takeaway from her for about 6 years and boy was it good Tonight! Just as good as the last time if not better. Prompt and polite service from Simon as always and the food was delicious and piping hot. Very sad to hear they are closing down soon as they have been open for over 40 years but I wish them well for the future

We stopped at this cafe for lunch as it turned out to be exactly half way along our four hour journey from North Wales to Stratford-upon-Avon. Parking was a little difficult especially as the heavy rain meant we didn’t want to be too far away ! Anyway, we went into the cafe and were immediately welcomed with a smile and happy greeting from the young lady behind the counter. She gave us menus and invited us to sit down and come back to order when we were ready, which we did. The menu includes an all day breakfast selection, burgers and omelettes among others, so a good selection of cafe type food. I ordered an omelette with ham, mushrooms and onions and my wife had scrambled eggs on toast. The food arrived, freshly cooked in a very short time and was absolutely excellent ! I must mention the toilet which I used. It was so clean, everything available including baby change stuff. It was roomy, nicely decorated with white walls and lovely pictures of animals and trees on the wall, quite delightful and a pleasure to use. Overall, the cafe is a very welcoming place, clean, nicely laid out with plenty of seating indoors and out. Some people elected to sit outside despite the rain as the area is protected with a canvas cover, though we sat inside. The waitress came and wiped our table before our food and drinks arrived (not that it was dirty). All the staff were extra friendly, courteous and very accommodating. I can’t really praise this place enough, it might be a cafe but these guys do cafe with style. Cafe environment with cafe food that goes above and beyond the standards of any cafe I’ve ever eaten in before. A perfect place to break your journey.

I have been to the Oriel Cafe before in fact quite a few times but mostly morning and lunch time. Today myself and my aunty of 83 called in at 3.35. i asked if they were shutting and she said at 4pm. I then thanked her and ordered tea and a coffee. The whole time it was an unpleasant experience she cleary didnt want to serve me. Admittedly the reason was in the middle of the room sitting around a table were her friends or family? The drinks were thrown down with no eye contact or any words spoken. It was an unpleasant experience as up till then had always told people to call in if they were in Newtown. wont be going again and will not be recommending. Such a young girl but really does need to learn customer service is with a smile!
