I have literally just visited this cafe and while I appreciate it was busy I waited nearly 25 minutes for a toasted tea cake which was burnt to buggery and my friends had toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches which they chose to leave ….. so basically a £22.99 bill for very little. We shan’t be back

We were on our way back from Tenby with our family and stopped at JD’s Cafe for lunch. The food was excellent, it was all freshly prepared and reasonably priced. The Cafe is dog friendly, which was great for us, as we had our miniature Dachshund with us. The owner and the staff were so friendly and accommodating, which gave the Cafe a lovely atmosphere. We definitely recommend this Cafe if you’re staying in Knighton or just passing through looking for a bite to eat.

After reading other reviews about the breakfast we decided to go ourselves. We were not disappointed the breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious at a very reasonable price. If you are in Knighton for breakfast go to J.Ds you will definitely not be disappointed.

Lovely decor on the inside, it made it a lovely atmosphere to dine in. We called in for a breakfast before our walking day, My partner had a latte and the standard breakfast, the latte he said was lovely and I had the vegetarian breakfast minus the toast, the breakfasts were both tasty and set us up for the day ahead nicely.

Driving up into Wales through Knighton, stopped off for lunch. Came across JD's Café by accident and it looked good. Friendly greasy spoon style café, with semi-rude cook / café owner who added to the experience. Good quality Ham Egg & Chips with large portions. Only issue was the hair on my plate when it was served - not great for hygiene, but the only issue. Crafts for sale in the window. So a bit of a mixed visit.

We had the last meal of our holiday here before heading home. We both enjoyed our breakfasts, the chips were especially of note, and enjoyed the atmosphere. The owner even popped out to buy mayonnaise when I asked if they had any. We would definitely come here again.

JD`s serve the best chips bar none. They are always cooked especially for you and are perfectly cooked and the flavour is superb. The bacon is also full of flavour and fried eggs are just as you would cook for yourself. Do yourself a favour and have a breakfast ,brunch or lunch here. You wont regret it !!

We knew we were on to a winner when we walked in for brunch and saw a lot of tables already taken with manual workers but this is no ‘greasy spoon’! We had to wait a bit for our food to arrive but they were very busy and it confirmed that everything was being freshly cooked. Can honestly say it was the best vegetarian breakfast I’ve ever had and really didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day!

Had some great reviews so we tried it for lunch. Not the best, but staff friendly and helpful. My toastie was thin white sliced bread, toasted on one side so that the inside was like soft mush, the ham was sparse and a bit gristly. The side salad was nice though! We had to wait some time for it too, which was a shame as we had to get somewhere else afterwards. The loo I would suggest you give a miss though, better to cross your legs until you get somewhere else. It could do with a good clean, and a lick of paint. The friendly staff made it bearable tho, but we won’t go back.

On a Bank Holiday weekend one would assume it would be easy to find somewhere to obtain a cup of tea, but not so in Knighton! However having parked my car and paid the parking fee - the machine does not provide any change at all - I proceeded to look for somewhere. I came across J D's which was a welcome site. It was fairly full but there was still one table free. The menu was reasonably priced and included cooked meals and snacks. The toasted tea cakes were exceptionally enjoyable.

Serves affordable, hearty food with good-natured banter. Not smart - but a great collection of 'homegrown homily' signs on the walls. If it is simply food you need, you'll find it here a-plenty - but don't put on your top hat and tails, nor the evening gown. 'Down to earth' maybe best sums it up, but it provides a very useful service in the town to locals and tourists alike.

This lovely little cafe really hit the spot for lunch. The steak pie was home made, and not with the awful puff pastry lid that so many places try to pass off as pie, but a proper short crust base and top, and packed with a really tasty gravy and proper chunks of meat. My wife’s mushroom omelette was equally great, light with perfectly cooked mushrooms. My ham eggs and chips was spot on, nice thick slices of ham and two eggs. All our meals came with hand cut chips, that although looked way too much, all got eaten.

We popped in with the teens for lunch en route to Black Hall Farm lodges. The cafe was almost full of locals who all turned ro see who came in. Despite clearly being not local, the cafe was friendly and for us southerners it felt like stepping back in time. Meals are traditional English fare, about 5-6 pounds a pop and good portions. The ham egg and chips was great, proper thick ham and home cut chips. Surprisingly the best I have eaten, and in this small place in little Knighton! Husband had a huge mushroom omelette and the kids breakfasts, all very good. Crumble for dessert, sharp and sweet. All was served with humour. A great little place and deservedly busy.

The food at Jd's Cafe is worth going out of the way for. The cafe is not romantic or very salubrious but it is very clean and the bare floorboards and solid wood and wrought-iron furniture adds handsomly to its very great character. This cafe is well worth a trip out on your bike there are excellent biking roads in the area. I went yesterday with 9 other muddy trail bikers. It's a cafe not a fancy restaurant - clean, simple furniture and just what is needed for a top rate cafe lunch. The prices are reasonable, the staff are excellent and there's plenty on the plate. They believe that chips are best made from potatoes that come out of a bag, are peeled, cut to size and then cooked fresh - expect to wait 15 minutes for your chip meal but it's well worth the wait. The eggs in double egg and chips are cooked perfectly - firm whites and soft yolks. They do plenty of stuff other than chips. Today I went with my wife, she had cheese omelette and salad and declared it excellent. It gets busy, but service is well organised and even today when it was jammed I only waited 18 minutes for double egg and chips. Also - Knighton is a pleasant small town that deserves a walk round.

From the outside JDs doesn't look anything special but don't let that put you off, looking through the window we saw solidly built tables & chairs which encouraged us to go in. Menu varied for such a small cafe, mug of tea served at £1.50, a well presented 'home cooked' meal with a good selection of veg at £5.90. I was looking forward to sampling a crumble with custard but after a well packed plate sadly I had no room!

If you want a simple, inexpensive meal with large portions in an ideal location this fits the bill.Food is basic but of large size and a local clientele of 'a mature nature' shows long term support--but also many younger mothers with children. Good value but the biggest drawback is what to my mind are some of the least comfortable wrought iron chairs I have ever used--I cannot quite verify if they leave an imprint on the posterior!

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
