We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our only regret is only booking to eat here on the last night of our 3 night stay. Place is nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. Food was top notch. If you are reading this review don’t accept the truly dire offerings elsewhere in the town. For a truly good meal in excellent surroundings book here. To the business perhaps update your website and signage which suggests you are closed in the evenings - you should be booked to capacity given you are such a star in an oasis of awful.

Firstly, you have to book! This place doesn’t open every night and when it is open tends to have only a few tables. That said it is well worth it! Booking was slightly mixed up , we asked for 7pm, was told they open at 6:45, so we confirmed 7. When we arrived at 7, they said we’re we’re 6:45!! It didn’t seem to matter though as we were led through to the small snug/bar for a pre-dinner drink and a chat with the chef and proprietor. Small bar but with a good choice. We chose our wine there too, nice choice of excellently priced wines. The menu was excellent for such a small place. Lovely choice of some more unusual dishes (venison for example). I had the black pudding starter and my husband had the mackerel ( see pictures below ). Beautifully presented when they arrived, almost didn’t want to spoil it by eating it! All the courses were delicious and a good portion size - to the point we both struggled to finish our dessert! Restaurant itself seemed clean and not smelling of food ( a pet hate of mine ). We didn’t feel rushed and we were offered port with the cheeseboard which was a nice touch (or a dessert wine ). My only bugbear about the whole experience were the 2 young waitresses. They were very polite when serving, if a little inexperienced maybe, but away from the tables you could hear them giggling constantly in the kitchen and it just felt like they weren’t taking things seriously behind our backs or they were maybe laughing at the customers. It probably wasn’t the case of course but it was slightly off putting. Overall, really would recommend a visit for a meal. Very impressive food.

My husband had the Welsh brunch which he thoroughly enjoyed and looked amazing. I had the fish which along with the chips and peas tasted like they came directly from the freezer and were heated in the microwave. For a place that has received recognition and awards, I was very disappointed. But not too disappointed because I made reservations for dinner, hoping that Drovers can redeem itself.

We were staying in the pub opposite this restaurant to take part in a walking festival. I hadn't planned on eating here as I didn't anticipate having the energy for conversation and fine food after walking. However, on Saturday morning, I decided to email on the off-chance they might fit us in that evening. Peter promptly replied offering a table at 8:15, which was perfect. From the moment we arrived, we felt well looked after and at ease. The young waiting staff were fantastic- attentive but not overbearing. The menu had a good range of 'proper food' and the wine list was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was spot on, with two or three other larger tables of people but obviously the emphasis is to book in the amount of people they can cater for to a high standard, rather than cram to the rafters and compromise the quality. Our meals were perfect and served at the relaxed pace I believe an evening meal should be served at. Overall, our experience in this restaurant was wonderful. Top notch meals in delightful surroundings. I'm so glad we decided to dine here, it really was the perfect way to round off the enjoyment of a day in the beautiful Welsh countryside.

We recentlystayed for 3 nights B&B and had two evening meals in the restaurant (Peter, the owner chef had to go away the second night). We have stayed there as a couple before and I have visited twice with groups of cyclists on an overnight stay. The food has always been freshly delivered and prepared ( the vegetables and herbs were handed to me one day just as I was going out!). The presentation has always been superb. We live 100 miles away, but I will take any reasonable opportunity to call in again. We usually sit down for an aperitif before dinner, on the balcony OVER the river Irfon, then eat indoors so the food doesn't get chilled. Peter is an interesting and committed host. We have never spoken to anybody who has not thoroughly enjoyed a stay or meal there. The food awards The Drover's has received speak for themselves.

We were in Wales for a hiking weekend and had planned our stay for weeks. The plans included having dinner at this restaurant for Saturday night! We had read the reviews and were looking forward. What a disappointment. We arrived at the restaurant and had to awkwardly stand in the middle of the room as a young-looking waiter who received was quite keen to check whether or not we had a table booked rather than direct us to the counter where we would have been out of the way of other diners. He went away twice to consult/check leaving us in the middle of the room. While we waited, Peter (who was clearly the man in charge, and now I read here is the proprietor) - came asked us the same question and guided us to the counter. He then proceeded to check whether we were booked on his system and we clearly were not. It was clear that a table had not been booked and he asked yet again to see the confirmation email that my friend had received. He checked that twice. Having checked his records and then demanding to see a confirmation of our booking, Peter proceeded to tell us off about not calling to confirm that we were running late - so the problem became - our being a few minutes late; not about them not having a table for us. We apologised for being a few minutes late - we had under-estimated the distance from our glamping site to the restaurant. No apologies just an angry man giving us an earful while other diners watched in bemusement! At this point 2 of us walked out as my friend who had done the booking tried to reason with Peter. Even if he had found a table for us, I wasn’t going to sit down in such a hostile environment to spend my hard earned £££s. It looks like a great restaurant, but it also looks like a refresher course on customer service wouldn't go amiss. I went in to spend some hard earned £££s and being embarrassed in front of other diners was not part of the plan for the evening, not then and not in future.

Ordered the lamb with high hopes following the awards and recognition given to the head chef. The lamb was very tender however the portion size was extremely small for the price and the flavour was ok at best. The draw to the restaurant seemed the be the chef but he was rude to us following a short delay in our arrival and even more rude to another group who had a similar problem. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for value for money or cares about feeling like a valued customer.

When in Wales (from Australia) we always try to fit in at least one stop at Drover's Rest. Foodwise there has never been a disappointment. The service is efficient understated and observant without being obvious. 'White linen' tables in an interesting and decorative Tearoom setting return visitors to elegant times gone by. We arrived unannounced but hopeful of a place and were informed courteously with a smile - always a plus - that we would be fitted in but there would be a wait. Bar service was offered and we were well looked after during the interim. The Sunday lunch was a varied set menu with ample choice. 2 soups : leek and potato or Ham hock with lentils, and a selection of tasty starters - warmed brie and cranberry, duck with orange pate to name just two. On a cold day, the soup with warmed bread roll was wonderful 'comfort food'. The roast lamb Mains was our choice from beef, lamb or chicken with sage and onion stuffing, each of which was equally tempting. Roast lamb with mint sauce, extra gravy, roasties done to a crisp turn, mini Yorkshires and complemented with carrots, mangold, cabbage, peas and extra minted boiled new potatoes brought to table. (We'd have brought a lot home but there was little left.) The dessert/cheese board menu was varied. Again all tempting but we opted for the blackberry/apple crumble and the lemon crunch. Custard, cream or icecream to accompany. A culinary delight Peter and staff. Thank you so much. We look forward with anticipation to our next visit. n.b. reservations recommended but guests will be looked after subject to availability.

The interior is full of character, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. However, although the restaurant was not particularly busy, we had to stand and wait for about 10 minutes to be seated. The two of us then had to wait another 20 minutes for menus to be brought to our table, so we then sat with no drinks and no menus to look at! There seemed to be 2 waitresses on duty who were serving other customers while we were waiting. They either needed an additional member of staff on duty, or further training on how to prioritise duties such as showing new customers to their table and having menus ready for them to peruse while waiting to be served. The food, although delicious, was not cheap, and so I would have expected better service, training and organisation on the part of management. I don't hold our waitress responsible, she was very helpful and friendly once service finally began!

Extremely welcoming and accommodating, the “ Drovers’ Rest” offers both superb food and the most comfortable rooms. It is ideally placed to break a long drive down into South Wales.

Staying across the road at Carlton Riverside we had an eye on the riverside terrace attached to this place... and one sunny afternoon, after the rain had cleared we pounced on it..!

We went for a meal last night, four of us, and I can honestly say that was one of the best meals I have ever had, the attention to detail, the lovely atmosphere, attentive staff and we were given plenty of time, not rushed at all, followed by a lovely drink in the lounge over looking the river. What a gold mine of a restaurant this is, can highly recommend it and will definitely be back, diolch!

Passing by so thought the Drovers Rest would be an ideal stopover for lunch. Busy lunchtime service. Excellent, tasty food, service good. An enjoyable visit to be repeated when lunch beckons in Llanwrtyd Wells.

Had afternoon tea here and it was a little dissapointing. No sandwiches just two slices of bread with some cheese seperate, on a plate with some salad. Not very appetising at all. Then three seperate plates with a scone and jam but not fresh cream. A Welsh cake with a square of butter and a piece of Bara Bryth. All very muddled and not that tasty. Dissapointing

My wife and I had a main meal and a dessert. The choice is fairly narrow but there are always meat, fish and veggie options. The atmosphere is very nice and cosy. the service was friendly and prompt. The food was lovely and came with a variety of vegetables. Both my wife and I enjoyed the food. The desserts were also very nice. You could tell that the chef had worked hard on presentation and this added to the experience. The price was reasonable, more expensive than other places offering pub grub, but we felt that it was money well spent considering how much we enjoyed it. We have been here before and will do so again

We visited the restaurant after reading the many excellent reviews, having previously dined at the nearby Carlton Riverside. Perhaps our experience was not typical of previous reviewers, but we left wishing we had booked into the Carlton. On the positive side the bar was very pleasant with a good view over the river, with a good selection of reasonably priced drinks the service was quick and efficient. However our main reason for dining was the food, this unfortunately did not live up to high expectations that we had when it was cooked by one of Britains top chefs. We would have expected a more seasonable selection of vegetables than red cabbage, carrots, baby corn and French beans, particularly when 2 of the items arrived half way through our meal. My wife's sirloin steak was well cooked but lacked flavour, my halibut was good but in my opinion was not complimented by the sauce. Our final disappointment was when we received the bill from the owner for virtually double the correct amount, an almost impossible amount for 2 people. When it was pointed out the blame was apportioned to the lady that served us, if you own a restaurant you must recognise that a major mistake has been made not wait for the client to inform you!

I had an opportunity to visit this restaurant twice over the Easter weekend with a group of friends, first time we all just had a piece of cake and drinks each. I am not a fan of simnel cake, however the one offered here was exquisite. Light, moist and well spiced with a layer of marzipan on top and some elaborate decorations, the coffee was good too. Second time, 5 of us had lunch, as it was not lunch time at 2.30 we were accommodated and made to choose from the snack menu which is understandable. There was a lot of choices on the snack menu anyway, the welsh and buck rarebit were delicious and I had an opportunity to try my fiancees butternut squash and lentil soup which was flavorsome. We didn't have a chance to sit on the terrace at the back, which looked very inviting. The owner, Pete is a master of hospitality and instantly makes you feel at ease! I would certainly visit again for something more substantial. True gem!

Attended a wedding anniversary a couple of weeks back. It is only fair to say the hospitality offered was exceptional. Despite catering for approx. 30 persons, all the food was of a very high standard, every one I spoke to said that the meal was first class, so well done team drovers rest !

We enjoyed a meal with friends whilst visiting the area. It was quiet for a Friday evening and service was good.As a bit of a fussy veggie I had no trouble picking choices on the menu. The meal was good quality and plentiful. After starters and mains we couldn't manage dessert, but plenty of choice. We enjoyed far too many drinks in the rear bar, keeping Peter open longer than he probably intended! Would highly recommend!

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

The Globe hosted a charity event for #bemorefrank (09.11.24) and were the most amazing hosts and venue. Mary, lead the organisation and was open to all of our ideas and accommodating to everything we wanted to achieve that evening. All the staff worked so hard on the night with the vast numbers that came through the door and made the event run as smoothly as can be. Having two floors really allows flexibility plus the outside area (weather allowing) created the best setting for our charity event. Five stars to The Globe!!.
