The Oak Inn in Powys

We had a takeaway this evening …. We’ve had a few from here before and we’ve eaten in there too … Not sure what went wrong tonight as it’s usually ALL 5 star but the Peshwari Naan was very wet inside and fell apart , the rice was very very greasy and the chicken in the Tikka Balti was very grissley . Poppadums were standard but oh my god the pickle tray is absolutely the bare minimum they can give out isn’t it , and it’s not enough for two people for sure . The veg platter was good , the seafood Silhetey was good but overall it just scraped a 4 out of 5 and my wife only wanted to give it a 3 …. Very disappointed and very surprised too if I’m honest . There’s so much competition nowadays that you have to be careful don’t you . We won’t go there again , like I said … it should have been a 3 star really 👍

The staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Tilllie. The food was excellent and piping hot. A good choice of beers/lagers.. II would 100% recommend this place.

First time for Sunday lunch, but go here regularly. There was a choice of 3 meats and you can have any combination. It was served with red cabbage, leeks in a white sauce, yorkie, stuffing, carrot and a parsnip as garnish. A separate portion of madh, peas broccoli and cauliflower cheese and a gravy boat. Food was piping hot and well presented. Highly recommend and definitely return.

Had a lamb sagwala takeaway I must say I’m from the midlands curry land this curry was the bomb 10 out of 10 for flavour forgot to put my onion baghees in but no problem mistakes happen curry rice and naan bang on will be going back thanks Jess don’t forget my barghees next time 😉 Tony

First time on a Wednesday for a curry , rice and a drink for 11.99. We were greeted by Jess and Tilly was our waitress. The food was spot on, fresh, piping hot, well presented and very tasty. Highly recommend and will definitely go again.

We ordered different food & all enjoyed our meals. The staff were attentive & pleasant. We were the only people in the Spice Lounge part of The Oak so the atmosphere was lacking but the bar seemed very lively as we passed through.

Fantastic pub, with a lovely atmosphere. The service is friendly and the food is great. I would recommend the chilli pizza and onion bhajis!

Dined in yesterday after ordering a delivery a couple of weeks ago. Authentic tasting food, friendly staff and very affordable. We love an Indian and often go to the others in welshpool, however this is our new go to!

We order quite regularly not again, had Raw garlic or something that tasted overpowering, two curries we couldn't eat, a waste of over £20, sadly won't be going here again, especially after the attitude of the woman we spoke to Laura, who was argumentative and rude. Very unprofessional and not the service of quality of food we are used to. Such a shame.

Absolutely amazing curry. We been for curry and pint deal 4 off us. 3 different curries ask come with rice and pint or soft drink. Absolutely amazing curry best i had by far lovely flavours. Amazing staff Tillie girl who served us so like polite and efficient. We will be calling in again for the next curry and pint night. Every wed 6-8pm

We decided to try the once a month Sunday lunch, so I took my 2 daughters and my mum & dad. We ordered 2 child's, and 3 adults roasts. We were able to mix the choice of 3 meats which were beef, gammon and turkey. All three meats were perfect and plentiful. The veg was spot on, not a soggy mess like many places. You even got cauliflower cheese included. Honey roast parsnip and carrot plated with the meats, yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball and roast potatoes with the veg served separately to help yourself. The gravy was delicious, proper home made and so rich. My mum is Gluten free but she still got the same as us except the yorkshire pudding so that was a bonus too. Definitely reccomend and will 100% be returning.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was excellent, the meat was done to perfection and plenty of vegetables which were hot and the gravy was lovely and tasty. We finished off with an orange and chocolate cheese cake which was to die for. All in all this was the best Sunday lunch that we have had out for a while. It`s no wonder that there was over 60 plus eating there , compliments to the chef and all concerned.

We got Christmas Eve dinner here, pleasantly surprised as we are not from here to find out that it was a spice house. Delicious food snuggled in the countryside, left with full bellies.

Second time visiting and eating here. Food is lovely but on both occasions have had to wait up to an hour and half for food. If you don't mind the wait, the food won't disappoint. We all had different meals and everything came out together. Poppadoms were complimentary both times due to our wait. If they could just improve the serving times then would definitely give another star to make this a very good rating, as it's such a shame as food is delicious.

We didn't have food but it all sounded amazing 😍 the place was clean cute and very relaxed the couple let us grab a drink while they were getting ready to open so kind and welcoming. Beer garden is very big. Lovely all round :)

Friendly, helpful, patient staff

The food was lovely, but the service lacked a little, we weren't asked if we wanted drinks for quite a long time and our rice lagged behind our mains in coming out for a while. Also walking in to the pub felt a little bit intimidating. That being said the food was very good and the young lady that served us did seem new to the job so maybe just finding her feet. Overall a good meal but just slightly better service would improve the atmosphere.

Food was good, but the service needs sorting out. Somebody needs to teach the waiting staff what customer service is about and how they approach customers.

Lovely food. Good value. Didn't have a record of having booked ourselves in but squeezed us in anyway.

Top class from when you are greeted at the bar by staff and locals to being shown to our table in restaurant.The young lady who looked after us was superb making sure everything was to our liking.The food was as usual first class.The Oak and it’s staff deserve 5 Stars.It is our go to pub and restaurant when we are at our caravan.

Really nice meal, although the price was odd £17.50 pp where the amount of food was the same regardless of if you had 2 people or 3 was weird. One rice to share between 3 was odd. Also, place really needs a clean. There were old spider webs on the lights, and they weren't Halloween decorations.

My husband and I hadn't booked, went along for a drink and a meal. The bar staff were really friendly & helpful and having a meal what no problem. The restaurant was small and intimate but not too crammed with tables. It would be spot on for small parties. I Highly recommend the spicy fish starter and onion Bhajis, they were both lovely and very large for a starter. Service was the extra Mile, Thank you. We will be back!

Our friends had booked a table noting that it was only Indian food. My expectations were not high, Indian food in a quiet welsh village?? From the outset everything was of a very high quality. I was particularly impressed by the depth of flavour in my curry. Basmati rice, a staple dish but well served. No need to drive to Birmingham and with a wide choice of dishes. Service from the young staff, efficient and attentive

Popped in for a drink on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of friends. Bartender was pleasant, atmosphere was slightly depressing and noticed it was affecting other patrons. Paid for a bottle of Peronni and a small mocha which came to £9! Living in Hampshire even that would be extortionate! Noticed another mature female staff member who was quite rude with a poor attitude. This was also mentioned to me by my friend who had been served by this individual. Atmosphere poor, certain staff member attitude requires improvement and will not be coming back in the near future. A shame considering this was a lovely establishment to go to years ago.

Great food, great service. Friendly staff and delicious food, very attentive to our needs. There was nothing else open in the area, so we had no choice but to come here, but pleased we did and pleased we found it.

What a little gem! Our friends had told us about The Oak at Guilsfield and said how nice it was and how good the food is. Well, we went there last night with our friends and everything they had said about it, didn't disapoint in fact it was Damn Good. Surprisingly there where only two other groups dinning at the same time. I had expected more, but then I guess mid week in a village pub could be a little quite. I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment, especially as we come out of Covid and it gains popularity, especially at the weekend's when I have been reliably informed it gets very busy. With Covid regulations still in place, we where only waiting outside for a very short time before being warmly welcomed and shown to our table by Jess who then left us to get settled before returning with an extensive menu and to take our drinks order. Jess or sister (I think) returning with our drinks, poppadoms, fresh water etc. before taking our order. I had difficulty deciding which meat/fish to have in my meal, Jess (or sister) said that I could mix it up with a little of each if I wanted to and yes I did. Once our food was cooked, the girls cleared our table, asked if we were ready to eat. They then brought out our food and arranged it ready for us to plate up. It looked delightful and as usual I over ordered for myself, there was loads! It was so enjoyable that I didn't want to leave any. However the quantity did beat me and I left some rice and chips. Next time I think I will ask for half n half. Overall this was a splendid night, good company along with good food n drinks in a wonderful environment made special by the staff. I thank them all. I will most definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending The Oak at Guilsfield to any one. If you like the traditional village pub, great beers and superb food then this is one place you should visit, especially as it's not to far off the A458 if you're passing through Welshpool.

Visited here for valentines day 2 years ago, we were extremely impressed by the indian food here, absolutely gorgeous. The staff were lovely, making sure we were looked after and had everything we needed, topped up on drinks as and when we wanted. Safe to say we will return when we can.

After a long day driving around Wales we stopped here in the evening with friends for dinner they managed to fit us in the food was good but ONE thing spoilt it ..... the wife had sag paneer curry she took a bite and was lucky to not lose a tooth OR WORSE ..... there was in there a piece of cinnamon stick/wood what if a child had tried to swallow that and choked on it ... apparently thats what is always in a sag curry according to them ???? I've never seen one in any curry my wife has eaten before..... so spoilt it for her immediately and as she wouldn't have anything else there would have been no alternative ..... so she just ate her nan bread the food for the rest of the group was good just that one as I consider DANGEROUS item that spoilt it

Visiting an Indian as a coeliac is always risky but the staff at the Spice Lounge were amazing. They guided us through the meal and made sure everything we had was gluten free. The food tasted amazing and was cooked to perfection

Lovely country pub, making all the social distancing adaptations! The staff are very welcoming and cant do enough to make you feel at ease. The Indian food is delicious, lots of choice on the menu and a good variety of drinks. Great country retreat, relaxing atmosphere! Definitely worth a visit!

Definitely a hidden gem, we enjoyed a very good curry, one of our dishes was tailored for us, so that was good. The restaurant manageress is very welcoming and helpful, will be going back for more!

Our take away meal was an incorrect order, missing popadoms, cold and of poor quality. A Tesco meal deal would have been more enjoyable! Having tried food from here twice now, we will not be eating from here again. The pub, bar staff and cleanliness of the place is let down massively by the food offerings.

Excellent service & nothing was too much trouble. Food was tasty & reasonably priced. Walking distance from where we were staying was a bonus! Definitely return if in the area in the future. 👍

Although we live locally we had not visited the restaurant before but had heard good reviews from friends. Having had a fantastic meal on our visit this will definitely be our number one choice in the future - quite simply the best in the Welshpool area.The food was freshly prepared and excellently presented, and the service was attentive and very friendly from the manageress, Jess. The restaurant was very comfortable and welcoming. The range of dishes available on the menu was very extensive and everything ordered was cooked to perfection. Quite simply outstanding - well done!!

We’ve been here a few times now and every time has been spot on Match has even made me my own curry to my taste which is amazing! If you’ve not tried it it’s well worth popping in great staff great food can’t fault it!

Wow! We came here randomly and loved it! The food was cooked to perfection and was so fresh! The hospitality was incredible and the owner recommended some new dishes and checked how everything was. Literally the best curry we've ever had!

Not many options in Welshpool for Sunday evening dinner. We took a chance that the Oak Tree Inn was open and it was. We couldn’t tell for sure by looking at their webpage.

We visited for the first time on Wednesday evening having read some of the reports on Tripadvisor. We thought the restaurant was clean and tidy and received a warm welcome from the host. The selection on the menu was great, and the chicken balti, sag aloo and naan breads did not disappoint us. The food was great, it was one of the best chicken balti dishes we've had since we moved from Birmingham many years ago. We will return and try something different off the menu as there was a wide choice, all at reasonable prices.

Decided to try the Oak and Wow we were not disappointed. We had the seafood platter for 2 and was excellent. Quality of the food was excellent. Service excellent Everything was excellent. Will certainly be going back again.

I enjoyed a visit here as a family group celebrating an 18th birthday. Quite simply, one of the best Curries I’ve had in years. Fresh, distinct flavours with fluffy Keema rice. Great depth of flavour and one of the best Naan breads I have ever had (jimmi naan).

I'm going to put on so much weight! In Guilsfield visiting my parents and have had Curry at the Oak two days in a row. Just about to head over there for a 3rd!

I'm 77, travelled 6 of the worlds 7 continents, and thought I'd seen everything BUT, never, ever an Indian restaurant in a Brittish pub! Having dined here on Brittish fare for the past 40 years. Having been inebriate here more than once. Having sung rude songs here once inebriation took charge. I AM UTTERLY GOB SMACKED. Curry in a boozer, who would have believed it?

Had takeaway from here tonight, it was absolutely faultless, everything was really tasty & piping hot, with an added bonus you can have a nice pint of cask ale while you wait and even drink it with your dog by your side . Even had an added bonus of free popadoms while we waited, thank you
