Not very welcoming, food was average and served to another table by mistake, another customer had started eating it before it was brought to our table, no offer to exchange for fresh serving until we asked. Value for money wasn’t very good, service was terrible, we certainly won’t be back!!

I live in Brecon and my friends from swansea arranged to have lunch in the oldYew Tree Inn on Friday 28th June. I drove there to meet them when I was told by workmen that the place was closed. I had to wait for my friends and then we all went to The White House where we had a lovely meal. The point is that this was booked more than a week ago, and a name and phone number was supplied. Why didn’t anyone have the courtesy to phone and leave a message stating the closure. We will never meet there again. I hope someone contacts my friend with an explanation.

Really nice village pub, great atmosphere. Had a delicious bowl of pea and ham soup! The owner was very welcoming, and offered directions to a good local cycling climb (The Devils Elbow) as I was visiting for the weekend, and even topped up my water bottle after I’d eaten. Really recommend this place and would definitely go back again. Thank you for making me feel so welcome! 👍

The Old Yew Tree pub was reopened after an extensive renovation. It has retained a pub atmosphere with modern decor and a very welcoming log fire. Only open from 4pm in the week but earlier on Friday and The weekend for lunch. The food is straight forward simple meals with home made items like the pie. Ample portions for most people. Very reasonably priced. The staff are extremely welcoming.

We went here on Sunday for Mother’s Day. My husband and I had the roast beef which was cooked to perfection and delicious. My mum had the pork which she really enjoyed. My daughter had the vegetarian option which was not so great but the vegetables that were brought to the table made up for it. Cheesy leeks, carrots, greens and peas cooked in an unusual way and very tasty. All the staff are very helpful and give a warm welcome on arrival. During the meal the young girls who were serving did a great job of coming to check that everything was ok. I can highly recommend this place and it is also really good value 👍😀

A great meeting place now. Lots of locals now filling out the place and making the most of a good selection of Ales and the normal commercial lagers/beers. Great food supplied by Helen and the staff are warm and welcoming. LOTS of Red Kite flying around so worth taking a camera and have a few shots. This morning there were at least 60 and about 6 Buzzards on the ground plus two or three Heron. Mad dog in the shape of Tilley the Boxer who , given the chance, will give you a nasty suck/lick. Worth a visit for any traveller passing through.

Arrived for 12 noon and we were the only ones there, Choice of 3 roasts turkey, beef or Pork, when they arrived we had a good selection of vegetables in individual serving bowls, staff checked dinner was to our liking and if we needed anything which was nice, dessert appeared to be home made and very good. Good value Only one negative and that was in trying to book a table as we had no response to an email so would recommend phoning to make a booking.

Visited this pub restaurant on a quiet Thursday evening. The pub has recently been completely refurbished in a contemporary style but still retaining some old world charm. Staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The menu did not hold any surprises but the ingredients were fresh and well cooked - the steak and mushroom pie was very good. A surprisingly varied wine choice which was reasonably priced. Try it next time you’re passing through!

Popped in during a few days camping with my 3 kids, to ask whether food was being served. Front of the bar was a bit oppressive and the lady serving wasn't particularly welcoming, when asked what time food was served (this was just after 5pm) she said "oh 5, so I suppose we are now", then a local suggested she wasn't right, so she shouted out to the back, where a loud response was it was in fact 6. She then said " ok, bye" to me - accompanied by uproarious laughter from the gathered locals. I wasn't expecting a red carpet, but hardly what I would call welcoming.

Service: The service was poor. Not the hearty welcome everyone has been mentioning, the middle aged blonde who served us seemed more interested in watching the TV and talking to a local than serving us. The young server was pleasant though. Food: The food was hit and miss: The fish pie was well cooked and would have been tasty if it wasn't soaked in oil, The chips were borderline undercooked and felt like a failed attempt at a chippie's chips, The scampi was no better than Bird's Eye, the peas may have been from a can and the vinegar had bits in it. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was pleasant, quiet, but with a traditional aesthetic. Not a lively place to say the least.

I struggle with this review as there is a lot to like, but there was a significant unforgivable issue during our stay. Our room was lovely. Spacious, huge warm bathroom with amazing shower, large bed and beautiful views (a stunning setting). The arrival experience was fine, although I had to return to reception as no milk was delivered as promised. The website says free homemade shortbread but there was no sign of that either. We had booked an evening meal and the choice of food was somewhat limited but what we did choose was very good. The staff seemed to lack some training befitting the ambience of the hotel but not a huge concern. Breakfast was self serve, and the hash browns were greasy and the sausages weren't great in my opinion. The tea was from an insulated jug so was over brewed, and the orange juice was an unusual taste too. Now the issue... The fire alarm went off at 2.15am (these things happen) and we had to evacuate but there were NO STAFF ON SITE! I tried the number on the website but no answer. One of the guests called the fire brigade that arrived in about 30mins and checked the hotel thoroughly and they couldn't contact anyone either. Eventually the all clear was given and we returned to our rooms at 03:15 am. The issue here is no staff, so no roll call or direction. I mentioned this to the manager the following morning and he said that he was in the lodge on the grounds but no alarm went off so he heard nothing, and was eventually contacted by the Fire Brigade and was on site at 03:30 (too late by then). He apologised but did not accept that another guest told us during the incident that someone had been over to the lodge and could here the alarm but nobody answered. It's a very good job there was no fire!! Final point - despite the evening meal food being very good the hotel has a Food Hygiene Rating of 1. Had we known that we would have eaten elsewhere. So - as I said - a mixed review.

Definitely not the fine dining experience promised! Very disappointed, mediocre food with overcooked vegetables. Knew we were going to be disappointed when offered cheese savouries (think 1970’s party food) as an appetiser! Salt and pepper squid - lacking either salt or pepper but with the addition of soggy parsnip crisps and grapes. The waiting staff were pleasant!
