The Old Railway Line Garden Centre in Powys

Great garden centre with massive choice of plants and very helpful staff. We decided on a coffee in the restaurant but ever since covid they have this peculiar system where you have to wait to be seated like some fine dining restaurant! As there were only half a dozen tables in use it seems rather petty! Once seated, husband had breakfast which he said was good. Went to pay for our plants and once again, had to wait behind a barrier until we were summoned! I felt it was rather regimented. Never seen it before in garden centres and actually, I find it off putting.

Great restaurant, for lunch or just coffee with a Great selection of cakes. Lovely selection and good quality plants, staff are very helpful with advice if needed, Shop has a good selection of everything! Their Christmas display is particularly lovely. I would go at least once a wk if I lived nearer!

We tend to visit for lunch a couple of times a month because it is only approximately 3 miles from home and the food is marvellous along with nice selections. We also have Sunday lunch here at times.

When we’re at the start of a busy day we always call in here for breakfast. Lovely food and brilliant staff, always a warm and friendly welcome.

Great afternoon outing, wondered the garden centre. Then decided to lunch, pleasant staff, fast service enjoyed the food will be going back. Cakes looked lovely.

Excellent staff, attentive without being obtrusive! Food always good. Really enjoy our early bird breakfasts etc. See you soon.

The Old Railway Line is great place to visit with my Mum who is in a wheelchair following a stroke. Accessibility is excellent. Yesterday afternoon we booked for Afternoon Tea with family and friends for Mums Birthday. We have to use a wheelchair taxi for transport and unfortunately received a call at 2:30pm (tea booked for 3pm) that they could not transport us. Very disappointing and upsetting - Mum was already sat in her wheelchair with her coat on ready to go. I cannot thank the wonderful staff in the restaurant enough for packing up our Afternoon Tea so that we could have it at home. It was beautifully presented and the food was delicious. This is outstanding service. Thank you again. We look forward to visiting again soon.

Awful. Unless you want to wait in long queues or if you have mobility issues and can’t stand for long don’t bother. My elderly mother’s just had surgery and is unable to stand for any length of time so the plan was to have lunch then leave her in the restaurant with a cup of tea to finish our meal while I went shopping. When we arrived it was busy but there plenty of empty tables (more than enough for everyone in the queue) so I sat mum at a table and joined the back of the queue. 30!minutes later I was nearly at the front of the queue when I realised a waitress was challenging my mum and trying to humiliate her for having sat down without a table number. Mum tried to explain she couldn’t stand for any length of time and I was in the queue but the waitress asked her to leave. I left the queue to intervene and explained I’d been waiting for 30 minutes but the waitress simply said we needed to leave, go to the back of the queue and wait again. When we said mum couldn’t stand that long she said if it was really necessary they might be able to find a chair for her to sit on while we waited. There were plenty of tables around her so it was completely unnecessary to insist everyone stood in the queue or humiliate my mum as they did. The fact I left the queue after waiting 30 minutes to intervene made no difference at all so rather than join the back of the queue and wait another 30 minutes we simply left and went elsewhere. The whole situation was handled appalling and the waitress smirking as we left said much. Given there was empty tables I’m not entirely sure why there was a need to insist on everyone queuing unless the kitchen was under pressure but if they insist on making everyone queue perhaps they should consider disabilities and provide suitable seating! Ironically we went today as I needed to stock up on plants and buy some garden furniture but left without purchasing anything so not only did they lose our lunch custom but the hundreds of pounds I planned to spend! Instead we enjoyed a lovely lunch at another garden centre and mum enjoyed a cup of tea after lunch as I shopped!

Pre-booked for afternoon tea in the restaurant. We were showed to our table and drink orders taken but were then left waiting 45 minutes for our food to arrive which feels like a long time when you’re hungry and seven months pregnant. It was only when one staff member among many of those delivering hot fresh food to walk in tables who had arrived well after us and even finishing before we’d yet to see any food noticed we were still waiting was it brought out to us.

Must admit this is one of the best garden centres iv been to in a long time

Done an order online and when they had to replace something they rang and asked first .Very helpful first class service.

As good as ever,what more can I say.

Had a top of the range breakfast which was good although a little over the top price wise. My other half had a vegan breakfast which was unimaginative and definitely not worth the money. I would eat there again but not my wife. The coffee was bitter and not very good, avoid.

Brilliant garden centre with lots to see and do. Had a breakfast at the restaurant which was delicious. Met the goats, donkeys and alpacas. Browsed in the farm and Christmas shops and bought lots of goodies. The site is quite large but well signposted. Staff are friendly and helpful. New favourite!!

Visited with husband and son, after my husband had worked in the cafe, amazing atmosphere for Christmas, the staff really worked hard and went all out, very helpful staff

A wonderful Xmas display, probably the best I've ever seen. Plants all look lovely. A pet centre, a super restaurant but also a small tea room tucked away beyond the pet centre. Pleasant staff. Some really nice clothes and unusual gifts on sale. Local produce also available. Well worth a trip over the border from Herefordshire.

Very busy day when we called in Thought there was almost to much on display. Difficult to get around the shop.

Lovely garden centre and amazing Christmas display and selection.

Visited this establishment in Dec 23 and first impressions as we pulled on the car park were mirrored when we got inside, crammed car park, spaces are okay if you’re driving a Fiat 500 sized car, inside , well if you have to use a mobility scooter you’re not going to get around this establishment without a degree of difficulty, the place is rammed with stock admittedly good quality stock but the way it’s positioned is not good, very little consideration for the disabled person. The flow around the establishment was to my mind in need of review and signage was poor. We visited the restaurant and found that you have to wait to be seated, really, it’s a garden centre with a restaurant not a high end restaurant, staff in the restaurant were very nice and helpful. Products were reasonably priced in line with other similar establishments.

well well we stood in a queue for twenty mins only to be told it be 30min more wait for food, loads of talbes but all reserved but empty, loads of pleope left due to this. Answer drop the pre booking you dont need it. food ok nothing special and over priced

So much to see and great healthy plants

This used to be a lovely garden centre, but now it has developed into a shopping mall, unfortunately the restaurant requires you to queue before you are allocated a seat, (is this a garden centre or a "dining experience"? ) However the food choice is limited and not as good as it used to be, also the food/drink section is not as well stocked as it once was. They won't miss my cust but I'll go elsewhere in future. Disappointed

Having visited here many times and had very nice food I must say I was a little disappointed with todays visit. There were tables available but we still had to queue to be seated and as my Mum is 86 it is not easy for her to stand for a length of time, there were 3 chairs for chairs to sit on whilst you queued but these were at the front of the queue so you had to wait to get to them. We did however wait and eventually we had a table but then there was a 40 minute wait for food, not all the assistants were as friendly as normal which was unusual as normally they are very friendly. The prices of the food have increased considerably which you do expect some increases but I do feel that they were a little excessive. I always really look forward to my lunch here but I think next time I may give it a miss and try a local pub.

One of the best garden centres I have visited. The Christmas displays are fantastic. It was so good I am taking the grandchildren there this week.

My 1st visit to the Old railway line Garden centre it was magical what a lovely day I had lovely staff and very helpful nothing to much Trouble lots of beautiful things to buy for yourself and for gifts The Christmas area was like being in in fairy Land and if you didn't feel very Christmasy before going in you definitely felt like it coming out The restaurant had a lovely choice of food again staff very helpful and well organised and didn't have long to wait would definitely recommend if you want a day out this is the place to go

Have just had a superb afternoon tea with friends. Absolutely superb. Well done guys x

Lovely garden centre at christmas

One of the best garden centres I've ever been to.

Nows a great time to go, all the Xmas Dec's r up 2 restaurant's plenty of parking easy to get to.

Having previously been a regular customer for years myself and my sisters were treated as if we were criminals today as the alarm went off as we exited. We stopped and came back in to be told we couldn't leave and had to empty our bags onto the counter which we did. We walked numerous times back and forth through the alarm not setting it off. So clearly was a false activation of the alarm. Despite this the rude member of staff being reluctant to let us leave and treated us as if we had stolen things even though we had shown her receipts and contents of bags pockets etc this was not good enough and this occured in full view and earshot of other members of public. This whole situation severely distressed my 2 year old niece and embarrassed myself and my two sisters highly. It ended with the assistant giving us no apology and saying because my niece was crying so much that they would have to let us go as if we were still guilty of something despite searching all our property and us going through the scanners. My family and I have been shopping here for years and to be treated in such an unacceptable manner when we have done absolutely nothing wrong is shocking and we won't be back again. I understand loss prevention is important especially in these times of cost of living crisis however this was done in an entirely inappropriate and unprofessional manner with no apology for the embarrassment caused to us all.

Alway a treat this time of the year. Restaurant busy but little coffee shop through pet shop was lovely. Yummy cake and hot coffee. Christmas decor really spectacular.

Stunning Christmas displays, always such an incredible stock choice of all sorts of things. Beautiful lunch in the tearoom and very lovely and helpful staff. A very enjoyable visit, as always!

Brilliant garden centre, in fact it's much more than a garden centre it's a shopping experience. Dogs are welcome in the small cafeteria. How cool is that.

Lovely Halloween decorations, fab Christmas decorations, had cappuccino and fried egg on 2 toast which was so tasty, I loved it. I can't wait to go there again when there's more Christmas decorations. I would recommend this garden centre to everyone.

Hubby really enjoyed his beef cobbler (stew) and a hot chocolate. I enjoyed my soup of the day, a plentiful helping. We both loved a slice each of a mint aero sponge cake. The choice of cakes is awesome. I had a bottle of Butty Bach, which as usual was chilled not very cold. It was busy as always, with very clean tables, floor and toilets. Staff are great and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Free mince pie with loyalty card.

Fantastic place, all you need in life under one roof. Great restaurant 10/10 beef dinner., you have got to see this place for yourself, plants, trees, fish, garden, ornaments, hats gloves, Halloween stuff, beer, wine, cider all local, go see for urself, will not be disappointed.

I have visited the garden centre many times as I live in close proximity but I've never had lunch there before. The food was excellent and I could have chosen several dishes from their extensive menu. It is busy and I should imagine it will be even more so the lead up to Christmas. They do roast dinners on a Thursday and Sunday. The staff were putting their Christmas stock on display and I must say what a display it is. I have never seen so many different items on show. Well worth a visit just to go there and take a walk around but allow yourself plenty of time if you go with the intention of browsing!

An excellent selection of cakes and drinks. The haystack cake reminds me of my school days, in a good way!!! and the coffee was good. The staff give excellent customer service.

Had beautiful Sunday lunch today .But please put your vegetarian sausages on menu us well us nut roast .we had 2 beef 2 nut roast all beautiful but daughter to picky to eat nut roast lol. Thank you always great service.see you soon

This garden center has a good range of products. I went there for clear orchid pots by Growth Technology. They also have a restaurant which was busy, which actually speaks volumes for the food there. Made a nice trip out on an October day. Recommended to explore.

Despite it only just being into October, christmas is well and truly in the air. Great to be in the main restaurant. Very enjoyable (when we laughed, other patrons didn't look too happy) but certainly no reflection on the staff who seemed to welcome it. Food very good at equally good prices, although in the main shopping area, can be on the touristy pricing side.

Lovely place to visit. We popped in on the way back from a weekend in Tenby and loved looking round. Lots of gift ideas.

Most excellent garden centre. Beautiful produces and produce. First class cafe and restaurant. Appeals to all age groups (my grandchildren whilst young and now teenage love a trip here).

Great garden centre full of everything you could want. Awesome plant selection plus a plethora of home, toys and decorative items. Friendly staff. Nice cafe there as well for some refreshments. Well recommended and we definitely visit again.

I loved this place. We live in Lincoln and were visiting family in Swansea. There are plenty of parking spaces. Friendly staff. 3 places to eat. We had toasties and fresh cream scones in the cafe. Wonderful and tasty. The toilet was clean. We spent hours looking around the vast areas. Bought lots of reasonable priced Christmas presents 🎁 It was a maze, easy to get lost if it wasn't for the clear signs. We definitely will be back next March when we visit again.

called for snack to the smaller coffee shop but unfortunately the tub chairs that were around some of the tables were absolutely disgusting and filthy dirty. there wasn't a lot of room to sit elsewhere so just sat there, making sure we didn't touch them before eating our food and washing hands thoroughly after . for these chairs to be used in an eating establishment I would of thought would and should not been allowed and not seen as favourable by any heath and food inspections. makes me wonder what the cleanliness of the rest of the place is like????

Lovely place but we found the breakfast very overpriced for the small portion size you get. Almost £4 for a bottle of orange juice is also a bit ridiculous. However the staff were really friendly and helpful when we got lost trying to find the restaurant.

Top marks for the service and quality of food at the food kiosk outside the Old Railway yesterday. The cakes are locally produced and the Sidoli’s ice cream was awesome. Everything was clean, well organised and delicious but the highlight was the standard of service which was professional, courteous and efficient even when it got busy. Well done Old Railway team

We stopped off here on our way back from a weekend away and it was by far the best roast dinner I have ever tasted, and the amount of beef you got was more than generous!

It does not surprise me that this Garden center was voted the best in Britain in 2018 and 2021. Every staff member we encountered were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They had a fabulous selection of plants and flowers and everything else you could ever possibly want. We went there for breakfast thinking it would just be a one off on our long bank holiday weekend travels, but we enjoyed it so much we went back to the cafe every morning for breakfast. The food was great, the ladies serving were excellent and they were especially sweet to our 3 dogs we had with us. If we ever come back this way again, we will be sure to stop back in!!

Mainly went for a coffee break on way to New Quay. Lovely selection of plants. Nice café and dog friendly. A little expensive but I think that's the law in garden centres. Staff and service very good 👍
