This was one of the best Inns in this area and used by many locals and tourists who all had great service and food both at lunch times and evenings. We are local and are now finding our way around other local places to eat. Try The Tram Inn Eardisley which is our choice to date. Also Black Mountain lodge at Glasbury is a good Sunday Lunch. Avoid Hay-on-Wye, all too expensive and not very exiting.

We drove into the near empty carpark at 12.20, noticing that lunch was due to be served at 12.30. Having ordered our drinks we asked about food and was told that there wasno chance of us eating as the restaurant was fully booked. No alternatives were offered such as a sandwich, and the attitude of the member of staff who spoke to us was surly and indifferent to our needs.

We had Sunday lunch here and felt moved to write a review .The pub and garden are delightful ,with panoramic views from the garden lawns. The main course arrived promptly and looked very attractive , generous portions with a side of perfect vegetables. What made it really stand out from any previous Sunday lunch was the flavour and seasoning ; every morsel tasted wonderful ! No pretentious swirls , blobs and "jus" but top quality ingredients cooked with exceptional care and skill .All served with pleasant efficiency. We had to have a dessert !The posset was a novelty and turned out to be a winner ,creamy lemonyness serves with a summer berry compote .The sticky toffee pudding was light and moist , suffused with different shades of caramel. It's a shame we live so far away , the locals are privileged to have such a treasure in their midst

Book for a Sunday lunch and you will enjoy really top class roasts, interesting starters and wonderful home made sweets. A great atmosphere, good wines and beers and always lots of local people dinning. Reasonable prices and top class service. Evenings late in the week are also first class with Percy, the manager always helping to make the evening most enjoyable and again the food is all top quality and is better than you will find in most places in overpriced Hay-on-Wye

Set in the valley it has beautiful views out the back in the beer garden of the hills, amazing at sunset. The food itself was delicious I had a very nice fish pot followed by a sort of brownie/ice cream cake with what we thought was a quince on top. It was a very imaginative menu when you expect just 'pub grub' but it was delicious. I would have enjoyed having some music on in the background, but that's a personal taste as I don't like overhearing other people's loud conversations!

The food and service here easily excel anything to be found in Hay. The cooking is better andalso represents far greater value for money, making the short drive well worth it. Percy, behind the bar and general manager, is very hospitable and obviously cares about his customers. We went for two evenings. Our mains were very tasty and the desserts, so often a disappointment, were also great. If the chocolate and almond cake or the almond and honey cheesecake are on, try them ! Two very pleasant rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reasonable for quality food and you feel the place has the interests of its customers in mind, far more so than in Hay.The only slight quibble would be that the white wines sold by the glass could be slightly better. But highly recommended and advisable to book in advance for busier times.

Perfect for such a large group with noisy kids. Heaters on it was great. Free prawn crackers on the bar, lovely freshly prepared food, a great specials board and fantastic puddings. The seafood and the pork casseroles were good too. Everything was just perfect. The service from Percy is impeccable. Josh the young chef was cooking the night we were there and he's very good! A real gem of a pub in the hills over looking Hay on Wye. We had a big family gathering here for lunch, and had a great time. The specials board was as long as the normal menu, filled with a range of good dishes like pork belly, Spanish seafood casserole, Thai green curry, leg of lamb, roast chicken and vegetable stack. Along with a local ale, the food was really tasty and served with loads of vegetables or salad. Dessert menu was just as extensive and really good portions. It was another wet Welsh day so we didn't explore the gardens but there's a number of tables outside. The landlord chef was very welcoming and chatty. Well behaved dogs welcome too. Given all the positive reviews, we went here for lunch on Bank Holiday Sunday. Very limited menu - two roasts and fish bake in a cheese sauce. So I decided to have 2 starters (all of which were fish based). One of them was sold out. So roast it was.Yorkshire puds - I think they were pre-cooked and reheated - very dusty. Roast potatoes - suspect they were fried rather than roasted for a long time. Just not very good.Service was nice, and we sat in the new summer house with a fab view over the hills....but with a lot of dog portraits on the wall......hmm. If you're not doggy then it's not very appetising. Loos - a bit primitive. Really don't get the fuss at all.

The cost £ 5.90My husband had a lamb burger, salad leaves and fries delicious at£8.50. I had the fish pot, leaves, fries and a ramekin of assorted fish topped with a herb crust. There was no more than 150g fish and the waiter never came near the table so that I could express my thoughts that£10.90 was far too expensive. On collecting the plates I complained and He said he would speak to Colin Thompson, chef proprietor. We assumed an adjustment would be made accordingly, so after my husband had eaten his meringue we asked for the bill. No adjustment! Chef patron Colin Thompson has been in and around Hay on Wye for the last 25 years and has mostly served some excellent and some outstanding meals. It is only very recently that I heard that he is now the owner of the Radnor Arms, a charming whitewashed historic pub near the English Welsh border, on the north side of the river Wye a couple of miles from the Kilvert village of Clyro. It is not really a pub, more a restaurant with a bar, and plenty of outside seating for the summer months. The best features are the generous portions and the fair prices. At my most recent visit a soupe de poisson with rouille (£5.70) was of intense well balanced flavours, fresh and hot served with very nice bread. New english asparagus with hollandaise and panacetta (also £5.70) was all of fine quality. Being a Sunday lunch we both had the beef (£8.90) with really good yorkshires, and precisely cooked vegetables. Just one dessert was all that we felt able to order, a whisky and vanilla creme brulee (£4.70) which tasted well of both. A very light crispy caramel topping showed that Mr Thompson has great technical skills. Nice coffee (£1.80) and a surprisingly good Nero d'Avola from Sicily, full bodied and lots of fruit and just £13.45. So for a generous affordable meal in a traditional country inn ambience with pleasant unfussy service the Radnor Arms would take some beating.

This is the kind of place you might come across by chance and think no one else has ever discovered! We stumbled down across the fields on the advice of the lovely people from whom we rented a nearby cottage and had a fabulous sunday lunch with our teenage children. Lamb and beef were perfectly cooked and there was a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables to share. Leeks melted in a subtle cheese sauce , parsnips and carrots were delicately caramelised and there were turrets of yorkshire puddings pooled with gravy. Desserts were huge slices of banoffee pie and a soft creme brulee with a frost-crisp crust. The atmosphere was convivial , with everyone admiring the menu choices of the neighbouring tables and wondering at the portion sizes. Staff were friendly and efficient . A perfect day and a wonderful place!

We have driven past this delightful little pub numerous times on our way to or from Cardiff always intending to one day stop and have a drink - we finally managed to do this on Sunday and boy oh boy are we glad we did. The pub was packed with diners who were obviously enjoying Sunday lunch. After ordering our drinks at the bar from a very pleasant barman and managing to sit at the only table which was not occupied we then asked if there was any chance of ordering a Sunday lunch - we seriously expected the answer to be no as we hadn't booked and the place was packed. "yes no problem" was the answer. We were then offered the choice of 3 meats. The lunch was absolutely fantastic with both meat and veg cooked to perfection. The staff were all very pleasant and took the time to talk to us. All in all this delightful little pub is a fabulous find for us and a real credit to its owner. Warm, hospitable and homely - what more can you ask for! Can;t wait until we visit again.

We were taken to this lovely quaint old pub restaurant just outside Hay on Wye by my aunt to celebrate our birthday's. We had the traditional Sunday roast dinners of beef and lamb. The food was absolutely delicious, service was quick and efficient, the staff were charming and we felt extremely welcome and relaxed. Everything was of a very high quality, beatifully prepared and presented, probably the most outstanding dish (if I had to pick one) was the whisky creme brulee WOW! the best I have ever tasted. We can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes on the menu.A fantastic location, amazing views from the garden, a real treat not to be missed if you're in the area.

After a morning canoeing on the River, around 30 of us came to The Radnor Arms for lunch. It was a gorgeous sunny day so quite a few of us sat outside and enjoyed the stunning views of the Black mountains. We received a warm welcome and our meals came out efficiently and well presented. Well done and we are sure to be back!Nichola from Hereford

Went to Radnor Arms for a meal with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. The meal was exceedingly good, I had the scallops with chorizio...excellent. We were more than pleased with the quality and presentation of the meal, which also, wasn't too expensive...Very friendly atmosphere...with stunning views over the Black Mountains. Will be re-visiting as often as my wallet can stand it!!!

This is the Marches at its best. Lively atmosphere and the day we ate packed to the rafters with diners. Our food was fab and we drank rather too much of the local ale. (The bar manager - Percy ran us back to the BB) Make sure you book for dinner and enjoy the cooking of Colin Thompson.

I live about thirty miles from this fabulous restaurant and I'm glad its not closer or i would eat there all the time. The food is just terrific, generous portions, beautifully presented, fantastic flavours, a wonderful menu. the qualtiy of the ingredients many local, ( the lamb is my personal favourite) One of the few places I have ever found where all three courses are equal in quality. I've taken friends and family and its now become my venue of choice for family celebrations. The chef owner clearly loves what he does and it shows, the friendly waiter is always obliging and the welcome is genuine. The value is also outstanding a typical three course dinner for four people being about £100. The only drawback is that its not open every day in the winter, so check before travelling.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
