Absolutely fantastic. Such a lovely, welcoming pub (clearly popular with the local community). Food was sublime - evidenced by our clean plates (I had to stop my husband from literally licking his plate clean!). Such an amazing dining experience, will definitely return.

I was working in the area, decided to camp for 2 nights, ended up staying 3 nights. Jake and Amy were soo friendly as were all of the staff that i met. The locals were also very friendly. Everyone made me feel very welcome. The food was amazing too. Everyone was helpful, from helping me with bus, trains and taxi's to local attractions to visit. I went to Dolforwyn Castle. Absoluetly stunning views. I had a fabulous weekend. Great venue, family orientated, just couldn't fault anything.

After several recommendations we decided to have a special family birthday meal here today, it was a large booking and everything was amazing. The food was incredible and so reasonably priced, the tastiest meal I've had in a long time. The service was great and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely outdoor area with a little park for the kids. Couldn't recommend this beautiful village pub enough. We will definitely be back more regularly. Thank you.

Our group of six friends enjoyed an evening here last night, we tried the new menu (my second dining visit-Sunday lunch also gorgeous) The food came out fresh, really tasty with lovely presentation and overall a really great atmosphere sat in the cosy updated restaurant. Would recommend this country pub which the new owners have managed to retain a really welcoming vibe for just drinks or a gorgeous meal. Will be back soon.

Great choice on menu. Lovely Sunday lunch, but no cutlery on our pre-booked table. Had to ask twice for a bottle of wine and when it arrived the cork hadn’t been taken out! We had nearly finished our mains before the wine came back and then 10mins later another bottle appeared - I think there had been a mix up with the ordering. We obviously didn’t have the second bottle. Food was good but the service needs a little more polish & experience to warrant 5 stars.

Wow what can I say a group of us visted this establishment last Saturday and were amazed at the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff. We ordered a selection of starters to share and every single one left you wanting more, the garlic prawns and honey ribs were exceptional. We all had steak for our mains except 1 that went for the burger and yet again it exceeded our expectation. I have paid way more for steak elsewhere that has come no where near the quality. We finished up with lemon tarte and some cheesecake which were fantastic. All in all a memorable experience and one we are already planning to repeat. I can't recommend this establishment highly enough amazing food prepared by a great chef and delivered by friendly waiting staff.

Board was overflowing with different juicy, tasty scute of steak, chips, onion rings and more, tasty sauces to accompany and fed 3 hungry adults Desserts were big portions and again, very yummy. Waitresses couldn’t do enough, checking us all for refills of our drinks regularly, chatting and laughing with us all and made our visit really enjoyable! Would definitely recommend to everyone and anyone when in the area :)

As you as General Manager have quite rightly the right to reply to reviews, I wish to respond to you. Let’s clear up a few things ; 1) the review did not describe a “long wait”, we did artive 10 minutes early for our table and were more than happy to wait in the bar, but had to check on whether the table was ready 10 minutes after the booking time. So much for “strict time slots” 2) we were shown to a table for 2 which was only set for 2. If a 3rd person had, as was planned by staff, been sat there then staff would not have been able to pass by, the table behind would have also been uncomfortable to be seated at. It was definitely not a 3 person table and would not have made for an enjoyable experience. 3) we were neither rude to the waitress or caused a scene. We did appreciate that it’s was likely not her who arranged the seating and bookings and asked to speak with a manager/the person in charge. I have never asked for a “man to sort things out” in my life. In my experience it rarely ends in a resolution as we can see in this situation. 3) you did not ask us to wait 5 minutes. You asked if we would like a “drink on you” in the bar. Not ideal with a hungry 8 year old in tow. So we sadly left without being able to review your establishment based on the food but only the service. Which was unfortunately poor. Please do not tell lies in a reply. That only makes you appear even more unprofessional.

If you are on holiday in the area avoid this place at all costs. On Friday we booked a table for Sunday lunch for ourselves and our 8 year old. When we turned up they attempted to place us at a table for two with a third place mat to be perched on the end. Apparently they had a few large group bookings and were advised there were no other available tables. I said to waitress it looks like you are just catering for the locals she replied there’s actually no locals in at the moment which was a blatant lie as young man at the table of eight behind her had literally just gathered up all the plates and taken them into the kitchen. We asked to speak to someone in charge who duly arrived spouting platitudes. He did offer for us a free drink in the bar. We declined as we had already had to wait in the bar because our table wasn’t ready on arrival. My advice: spend your money elsewhere there’s better and more inviting places.

I booked for myself, husband and son to eat on a Saturday night, a good 4 weeks before we planned to eat there. When we arrived we were sat and asked for our drinks order and we’re ask if we would mind if they served a larger table first as there were not many servers in. Which was fine. Our drinks arrived and then we were told that three of the main dishes were not available, lamb, duck and chicken as the ordering had not been done properly for the food. This isn’t something as a customer that you want to hear. Disappointedly we ordered something else which was okay. I had the steak cooked medium however it was tough to my taste. The starter and desserts were okay. This is a very small restaurant inside so it feels cramped and it was extremely busy. So the noise levels were high. Would not go back again or recommend this venue to eat at.

We ordered five lovely burgers on a night out, the food was lovely HOWEVER while we were finishing our meal the table next to us ordered the same but they had extra on their plates. We asked the manager why and he VERY ABRUPTLY passed the buck to the chef who then came out a couple of minutes later being VERBALLY ABUSIVE in front of a restaurant full completely inappropriately and unprofessionally accusing us of disrespecting his food! (Which to add was no problem at all as it was lovely just querying why the difference) After this the manager completely ignored us all and was heard slating us with the chef about our party in the kitchen with the window open while a member of our party was outside composing herself after a traumatic experience being verbally slandered - COMPLETLY APPALLED BY THE LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE AND PROFESSIONALISM - Completely devastated as we are all local people who will never return or recommend.

Stayed at the excellent Smithy Touring Park for 3 nights, so visited The Abermule for an evening meal. The food was so good and the staff so friendly that we decided to eat there each evening. We were a group of 4 adults so between us we managed to cover a wide range of dishes, all of which were absolutely excellent. Although the menu isn't massive what they serve is first class, and there should be something to suit most tastes. Not only did the staff check that everything was OK for us, the Chef took the trouble see if we were happy. At the moment the main courses are served with a delicious dish of roast vegetables, gorgeous potatoes and chips 'to die for'! We did ask Chef how the chips were done but it was his secret, as indeed was the potato recipe. On speaking to a local lady she said that the Sunday lunch was very good. We plan to visit the caravan park and The Abermule again, probably on a regular basis and no doubt to include a Sunday!!

The restaurant's main attraction seems to be the Wagyu beef which I didn't have. Most of my fellow diners that did opt for the beef said it was tough regardless of how they had asked for it to be cooked. I had the Spinach & Ricotta parcel which came with a cheese sauce but overall the dish just felt too "cheesy". On the plus side you do get plenty of accompanying vegetables and you can enjoy some of the Montys ales which are very good. The Sunshine in particular was a favourite.

The Abermule is one of a clutch of inns affiliated to local Monty's brewery. Its unique selling point is Wagyu beef, heavily featured on the menu in the form of steaks, burger and pie - this Japanese-style beef is famed for its flavour and low fat.The pub makes a good first impression; it's a handsome brick building with a bar (full of happy locals) and restaurant (empty apart from us and one other couple). They feature three Monty's beers, but when we visited one of them had run out - not great for one of the brewery's flagship inns. However, what there is was well kept and much appreciated by our party. The menu is pretty standard pub grub: fish and chips, pie and chips, Thai curry, the aforementioned steak. This is fine, of course, but if you're serving up fairly simple food you have to do it well. There was only one special available (this was a Saturday lunchtime). We had one ribeye steak, one Wagyu burger and one fish and chips. The star of the show was the chips - absolutely stellar, crispy and properly homemade. Both the steak and burger were decent, but there were eyebrows raised over whether the Wagyu credentials really made them so much better than what you can get in any decent chain pub. But the big disappointment was the fish - how could they get it so wrong? I should've been warned by the menu description ('white fish' - what are they trying to hide?) It was sad, pale, flabby and flavourless - such a long way from the crisp, golden batter and big flakes of fish that you hope for when ordering fish'n'chips. The service was prompt and friendly, prices not unreasonable, but we left a bit dissatisfied. I'd like to see a bit more attention to detail in the kitchen - keep the menu simple by all means, but the dishes really need to be top notch to make it worth the trip.

we were a group of sixteen who had booked to visit the local farm which raised Wagyu beef then return to The Abermule which specializes in cooking this Japanese delicacy. The pub also serves Monty's ales which are brewed a few miles away. We had pre-ordered our food so after getting our drinks we were served with various dishes. Wagyu beef comes from Japan & has more flavour because of its slow maturing growth. The members of the party who had either the Wagyu beef burger or the beef in ale pie agreed that the beef was very tender & tasty.I am vegetarian so had the vegetable lasagne which was accompanied with garlic bread. This was very enjoyable as was the scampi that two other diners had eaten. We then had puddings either apple pie, chocolate mousse with berries or sponge pudding. All the food was well cooked & served & all our party were pleased with their meals, the service & the evening.Sadly, my husband missed this trip so I promised that I would treat him to a meal at The Abermule as soon as possibleThe menu has more to offer but was limited for the group booking.I mentioned Monty's beer which is another good reason to visit. It is brewed nearby & supplies 3 pubs in the area:-The Abermule Abermule,The Sportsman Newtown & The Red Lion Caersws.I recommend the food & beer & urge others to sample both when they are in this area of Mid-Wales.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
