We popped in on the of chance to see if they had availability for that evening which they did. We went back for our evening meal which my husband chose steak and I chose the duck. I must say it was very good the meals were cooked to perfection and the staff was friendly and helpful. We even recommended a place in Bristol for Roy to try when he comes up. If you are ever in the area please pop in and give the menu a look as there was several things if I had time I would love to of tried. Good luck in the future and the real life fire is amazing x

The restaurant is very pretty with glass doors opening to the pretty garden, we were lucky enough to have a table by one of them, very French atmosphere. The food was excellent for both starter and mains, the profiteroles however were very hard and not enjoyable. Overall though because the waitress and the owners were very sociable, and the atmosphere was great , we had a lovely evening and would definitely return.

Visited here for evening meal whilst on a walking holiday after Trip Advisor recommendation. We were not disappointed in any way. Beautifully laid out dining room. Excellent menu choices and good staff. We had a drink in the very comfortable lounge/bar before meal. Starters were excellent. Beautifully presented and excellent flavours. My chicken, pistachio and tequila pâté was superb. Main courses of ribeye steak and my pork fillet followed. Both excellent and we also commented on the beautiful accompanying vegetables. A really great experience - I would encourage people to go.

We all enjoyed our meals and had no room for dessert. Will definitely be going back/

We stayed at the Three Cocks inn and decided to eat in their restaurant, what a good choice. The food is cooked by the owner , granted its only has a small menu , but in my book that's a good thing. The food was served by a brillent waitress and we were amazed at the quality of our food. The portion size and quality Is 1st class. It's also a fairly small restaurant (best book) , so it's easy to get a good atmosphere whilst your eating . We are so looking forward to a return visit.

Not sure if it was the teenage children or the fact we were wearing jeans. Did Sir wish to see the menu before being seated? No thanks. Well I'll give you one anyway and make you stand around in the foyer and read it for 5 mins. Looked in the dining room. Very formal and stuffy with only one silent couple in there. We were looking forward to a family meal here and were very disappointed. The menu does not seem to have changed since the last time we were there (a few years ago!) and on time the service was questionable. My main meal was ok but the pudding was not pleasant. The profiteroles were very chewy, so much so I could not finish them. Main meal prices were reasonable, but to pay nearly the same for a desert was unacceptable, especially for the quality. I also found the service a little abrupt, and on occasion verging on rude. It is a shame as other reviews are positive. I have to say I will not be recommending this restaurant to others, and as people who live fairly local, we will not be returning back any time soon.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way into Hay-on-Wye town center. We were on a six week road trip across the UK and this was our best meal of the entire trip!We arrive just at the end of lunch, but still managed to squeeze in before they closed. There was only one other table and they were nearly finished on a Friday afternoon. We had a quiet meal in their cute and cozy dining room.I had the "Pie of the Day" which was chicken and leeks and my boyfriend had the Cottage pie. We both ate every single thing that was on out plates. The entire meal was delicious, but what I remember most are the carrots. They were the best that I have ever eaten. The glaze was sweet and it felt like eating a decadent dessert. All of the ingredients were super fresh, like they were picked that morning. A real treat. We shared a delicious apple crumble with custard for dessert. In addition to amazing food, the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. A group of 9 of us, ready for some good grub and merry drinking came into this establishment that very clearly said both "Open" and "public bar and restaurant" and rather foolishly it seems assumed we might be able to be seated and enjoy our time. We hadn't even all made it into the hallway when the person at the front was told by the person "greeting" them that the place was closed (I was stood next to the Open sign) and that this wasn't a pub but an "established hotel".We walked back out, both hurt, confused and irritated. Sorry lady but you just lost out on a big sale, and also earned yourself a terrible review on here. p.s. you might want to change the various (apparently false-advertising) signs that hang on your building... whatever that may be, because they give you very much the wrong impression of either a pub/restaurant (and to be fair, hotel as well), open, welcoming, and or inviting.

London prices seem to be the norm in the Hay-on-Wye area so this hotel was a welcome relief to some of the prices we saw elsewhere. As two couples on a weekend get away we had a great meal at the Thee Cocks Hotel. The food was exceptional, and would rival any up market 'city' restaurant we would usually frequent. As many people have commented the welcome we got from the owners was very warm and welcoming, by far exceeding anyone else we encountered in the Brecon Becons. Decor is very traditional in style, but recently decorated and clearly looked after; it was lovely sitting next to the open fire whilst we chose our meals before being invited through to the dining room to sit at our table. We had a three course meal, all of which was well cooked, with very generous portions and a large variety of seasonal vegetable (which is often a rarity these days) to accompany the mains. 3 courses for 4 adults, with a moderate amount of alcohol, £160.The only minor criticisms we could make would be; lack of fellow dinners (there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant on a Friday night) which spoilt the ambience slightly, and the Starters/Desserts are slightly overpriced at the £10 mark, £6 to £7 for starters and £4 to £5 for dessert would be more price competitive. We would highly recommend this restaurant , especially if you are looking for something better than just pub food.Thank you for a lovely meal

The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
