We popped in on the of chance to see if they had availability for that evening which they did. We went back for our evening meal which my husband chose steak and I chose the duck. I must say it was very good the meals were cooked to perfection and the staff was friendly and helpful. We even recommended a place in Bristol for Roy to try when he comes up. If you are ever in the area please pop in and give the menu a look as there was several things if I had time I would love to of tried. Good luck in the future and the real life fire is amazing x

The restaurant is very pretty with glass doors opening to the pretty garden, we were lucky enough to have a table by one of them, very French atmosphere. The food was excellent for both starter and mains, the profiteroles however were very hard and not enjoyable. Overall though because the waitress and the owners were very sociable, and the atmosphere was great , we had a lovely evening and would definitely return.

Visited here for evening meal whilst on a walking holiday after Trip Advisor recommendation. We were not disappointed in any way. Beautifully laid out dining room. Excellent menu choices and good staff. We had a drink in the very comfortable lounge/bar before meal. Starters were excellent. Beautifully presented and excellent flavours. My chicken, pistachio and tequila pâté was superb. Main courses of ribeye steak and my pork fillet followed. Both excellent and we also commented on the beautiful accompanying vegetables. A really great experience - I would encourage people to go.

Four of us went for an evening meal. We sat in a lovely room with a roaring fire while we had a drink and placed our orders. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone. The steak melted in the mouth, Welsh lamb very good and the duck and gooseberry was beautiful. A really good selection of vegetables and ample quantity. We all enjoyed our meals and had no room for dessert. Will definitely be going back/

Stopped here to take a look at this interesting building which has a family history connection on our Australian side of the family. We decided to stay for dinner and we are so glad we did. A very special meal which was perfectly cooked by the owner. Generous portions. We both had the rack of lamb followed by sticky toffee pudding and a wonderful selection of cheeses.

The menu is simple and your are not over whelmed with buckets of choice BUT there’s enough of a choice for everyone to have something they like and the food is delicious and cooked to perfection. I was very impressed by the quality of the meal we had here a few days ago. The dishes we chose were very well prepared and presented and I particularly liked the Welsh cheeseboard which contained cheeses that I had never heard of. The restaurant has a pleasant ambience. We stayed at the Three Cocks inn and decided to eat in their restaurant, what a good choice. The food is cooked by the owner , granted its only has a small menu , but in my book that's a good thing. The food was served by a brillent waitress and we were amazed at the quality of our food. The portion size and quality Is 1st class. It's also a fairly small restaurant (best book) , so it's easy to get a good atmosphere whilst your eating . We are so looking forward to a return visit.

The waitress on the front desk was not at all warm or welcoming. I got the distinct impression we did not meet the entry criteria. Not sure if it was the teenage children or the fact we were wearing jeans. Did Sir wish to see the menu before being seated? No thanks. Well I'll give you one anyway and make you stand around in the foyer and read it for 5 mins. Looked in the dining room. Very formal and stuffy with only one silent couple in there. So bad we decided to leave. Best food in the world counts for nothing if the experience is poor.

My wife and I booked this restaurant on the spur of the moment and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. We both enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the bar before being shown to our table. Although it was fairly quiet , the only other diners were a group of four Americans from Mississippi and a sales rep , who has been staying there on and off for a few years (it is an hotel as well). The food was excellent and very reasonably priced and the service was very good as well.

Took my parents and daughter out for my Mums birthday, Had booked for lunch for four, there was a choice of three vegetarian options, rare around these parts, on a Sunday especially as its a carvery. Upon arrival were were greeted and made to feel very welcome, we were seated with our drinks, the barman is a star, We then went to the carvery where the vegetarian meal was waiting to add the veg and our plates were filled with the most delicious choices of meats and vegetables all freshly cooked AND DELICIOUS !! We were also looked after by a lovely waitress who saw to it that we had everything we needed, which then had to be puddings, again delicious especially the tiramisu. This place is a must if you want good honest food, and fantastic service.

In the morning what a excellent breakfast, everything was so lovely and fresh, Great choice, you also have the choice of fruit juices, and if the dinner has left you still feeling full, then there is the choice of cereals, and a continental breakfast. We were looking forward to a family meal here and were very disappointed. The menu does not seem to have changed since the last time we were there (a few years ago!) and on time the service was questionable. My main meal was ok but the pudding was not pleasant. The profiteroles were very chewy, so much so I could not finish them. Main meal prices were reasonable, but to pay nearly the same for a desert was unacceptable, especially for the quality. I also found the service a little abrupt, and on occasion verging on rude. It is a shame as other reviews are positive. I have to say I will not be recommending this restaurant to others, and as people who live fairly local, we will not be returning back any time soon.

If you like a cooked breakfast this is is the place to be.The best bacon I've ever had and a really tasty sausage. Good choice of cereals, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and juices. But Roy's cooked breakfast is the best. Loads of mushrooms and sautéed potatoes accompany bacon, sausage, tomatoes and your choice of how your egg is cooked. Great toast and coffee or tea.Difficult to get up after breakfast but you don't need much to eat again till dinner, which is also great in terms of choice and quality.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way into Hay-on-Wye town center. We were on a six week road trip across the UK and this was our best meal of the entire trip!We arrive just at the end of lunch, but still managed to squeeze in before they closed. There was only one other table and they were nearly finished on a Friday afternoon. We had a quiet meal in their cute and cozy dining room.I had the "Pie of the Day" which was chicken and leeks and my boyfriend had the Cottage pie. We both ate every single thing that was on out plates. The entire meal was delicious, but what I remember most are the carrots. They were the best that I have ever eaten. The glaze was sweet and it felt like eating a decadent dessert. All of the ingredients were super fresh, like they were picked that morning. A real treat. We shared a delicious apple crumble with custard for dessert. In addition to amazing food, the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. I highly recommend eating here and if I'm ever lucky enough to be in the area again, I will make a point to go back.Like my review? Check out my blog!

A group of 9 of us, ready for some good grub and merry drinking came into this establishment that very clearly said both "Open" and "public bar and restaurant" and rather foolishly it seems assumed we might be able to be seated and enjoy our time. We hadn't even all made it into the hallway when the person at the front was told by the person "greeting" them that the place was closed (I was stood next to the Open sign) and that this wasn't a pub but an "established hotel".We walked back out, both hurt, confused and irritated. Sorry lady but you just lost out on a big sale, and also earned yourself a terrible review on here. p.s. you might want to change the various (apparently false-advertising) signs that hang on your building... whatever that may be, because they give you very much the wrong impression of either a pub/restaurant (and to be fair, hotel as well), open, welcoming, and or inviting.

London prices seem to be the norm in the Hay-on-Wye area so this hotel was a welcome relief to some of the prices we saw elsewhere. We were served the same menu on both nights, so a number of days there would limit the choice somewhat. Quality as well as quantity seemed to be the policy with local produce available.

As two couples on a weekend get away we had a great meal at the Thee Cocks Hotel. The food was exceptional, and would rival any up market 'city' restaurant we would usually frequent. As many people have commented the welcome we got from the owners was very warm and welcoming, by far exceeding anyone else we encountered in the Brecon Becons. Decor is very traditional in style, but recently decorated and clearly looked after; it was lovely sitting next to the open fire whilst we chose our meals before being invited through to the dining room to sit at our table. We had a three course meal, all of which was well cooked, with very generous portions and a large variety of seasonal vegetable (which is often a rarity these days) to accompany the mains. 3 courses for 4 adults, with a moderate amount of alcohol, £160.The only minor criticisms we could make would be; lack of fellow dinners (there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant on a Friday night) which spoilt the ambience slightly, and the Starters/Desserts are slightly overpriced at the £10 mark, £6 to £7 for starters and £4 to £5 for dessert would be more price competitive. We would highly recommend this restaurant , especially if you are looking for something better than just pub food.Thank you for a lovely meal

A pleasant meal with excellent service but very quiet, i suppose thats usually to be expected in January. Probably the nicest salmon we've had with a scrumptious cheese cake to follow and lovely white wine too. Waiter had a good sense of humour and kept us entertained on a quiet night and said "don't forget us on Tripadvisor" so here it is! Quickly cooked and delivered to our table with genuine warmth and a smile. Better than our first visit last summer but we don't like to make a fuss as it seemed full of holiday makers and a little short on waiting staff we hope you enjoyed your after work pint Johnny, Dean and Jenny x
